12 weeks today! woo! I've been waiting to get to this point since the moment I took the pregnancy test at 3.5 week! My scan is booked for thursday and if everything is well we will tell everyone after that.

I have woken up full of cold this morning, so me and DS1 are having a quiet day at home. Not being able to take any medicine sucks, and I just made a honey and lemon hot drink but it smelt of musty dog so i threw it away, not sure if its just my pregnancy nose or if the honey or the lemon was off?!

If I can summon up the energy to go to the shop for more honey and lemon I will also investigate any non medicinal throat sweets. I am definitely feeling sorry for myself today.

goldenpineapple · 21/03/2016 11:09

Congrats on the 12 week milestone ditsy and fx for Thursday! Hope your cold gets better soon.

Milly whens your scan? As far as I can tell so far (1st timer!) worrying is par for the course and comes and goes. Could it just be that your symptoms are lessening as you're getting further along?

Just had my booking in appointment (10 weeks today) and the midwife couldn't take my blood! I'm a fainter with low bp so always have to lie down, but never had a problem like this before. She tried a few times and then said I'd have to come back another day - my vein kept collapsing? Argh, I hate having bloods down anyway and now I'm more anxious. Has this happened to anyone else?

athousandsplendidsuns · 21/03/2016 11:36

Yes pineapple happened to me all the way through my last pregnancy - booking in today so I expect it will be the same this time! I seem to remember some of the midwives could manage it and others sent me to gp. One of the joys of pregnancy I think. Really hope today's appointment gets me referred for scan so I get a date I ll be able to tell people. 9 +5 currently. Happy 12 weeks to all those who have made it so far.

DisneyDiva87 · 21/03/2016 11:55

Why are strepsils not safe Fresh? I had them in my last pregnancy, I thought it was just they couldn't say they were safe because they can't do a clinical trial to find out for definite.

You could always have hot honey and lemon if your throat is sore and dose yourself up on paracetamol.

I never get on here over the weekend, so I've missed loads of posts

Alwaysinahurrynow · 21/03/2016 11:59

pineapple I have this issue too. Normally end up having to book additional nurse appointments so they can do the tests. At my booking appt, the midwife managed it at the fourth attempt (after I spent 10 mins lying down recovering). Main thing that helps is being well hydrated, warm and not too nervous. I tend to ask them to do it at the start of the appointment rather than at the end.

Funny thing happened in labour as the midwife was putting in the lines in and I said it was normally hard work etc... Must have been higher blood pressure in labour but next thing, there's blood everywhere and she's having to get changed - oops!

goldenpineapple · 21/03/2016 12:20

Ah thanks thousand and Always - I'm glad its not just me. She didn't really explain it you see. I was definitely well hydrated and warm - but the nerves were there. Its definitely a good tip to ask them to do it at the beginning of the appointment - I will do that next time for sure. Need to try and get less squeamish I think!

Hope they manage to do yours at your booking appt today thousand and that they give you a scan date - I've just been told to wait for mine to come in the post - I was hoping I'd get it today.

Figgygal · 21/03/2016 12:23

I used to be the same with blood withdrawals I remember at my 12wk scan last time they tried to take bloods out of both arms and both hands before I felt flush and almost passed out. I had a few blood tests last year due to seemingly not ovulating and definitely made sure wasn't cold and that was hydrated and it went a lot better.

athousandsplendidsuns · 21/03/2016 12:31

Yes not really hoping for an actual scan date, just to know I've definitely been referred into the system and they ll be one on the way! Good tip about bring hydrated, will try and force some more water down now.

goldenpineapple · 21/03/2016 12:34

Eek Figgy, do they take blood at the 12w scan as well as at booking?!

I will definitely make sure to wrap up warm and drink loads before next Wednesday - which was the soonest they could get me in to try again. Does it matter that they won't have the bloods done until 11+2? Just as it says its meant to be between 8-10 on the screening form?

Alwaysinahurrynow · 21/03/2016 13:19

My bloods at booking in have been for things like blood type, hepatitis screening, etc. The bloods at my scan are for the nuchal translucency test. For the former, I don't think it matters when they do them other than obviously the earlier the better in case they need to do something. With the latter, I think it has to be done at a very similar time due the calculations. The people at the hospital have always had no issues taking blood, but it could be as you've always drunk more due the scan.

goldenpineapple · 21/03/2016 14:02

Ah OK, I hadn't realised they take blood for the nuchal test as well - I had it it my head it was just to do with scan measurements. Must read info properly! Yes, the booking ones are for blood type etc so hopefully they'll be Ok to be a little late. Thank you for helping out with questions Smile

MyBreadIsEggy · 21/03/2016 14:26

Poor you pineapple!! My friends has just had a baby and she has a really hard time with needles - she fainted at every bloods appointment bless her Sad
When I was induced with DD, the MW went to put the canula in my arm (one of the huge dark grey coloured ones) and my veins collapse 4 times Confused eventually got it in, and then about 6 months after DD was born, I realised that the bastard thing had scarred me!!

dottydimples · 21/03/2016 15:16

Ahh, you poor things, I totally get the hate of blood tests! I used to be rubbish with blood tests, but I've now had so many that I just look away and somehow manage to get through it without fainting. Although a few times my veins like to hide and I've had to have blood taken from my foot!

My other half is really bad with needles. He faints every time even when laying down. However last time he came up with a good idea that seem to have worked - he put a long song on his iPod (Bat Out of Hell - Meatloaf, as its 7 mins long) and just listened to that through his headphones while laying down with eyes closed. It worked as he didn't pass out!

athousandsplendidsuns · 21/03/2016 15:19

Midwife failed to get any useable blood but sent a good trickle down my arm and the chair! Off to the practice nurse for me later in the week.

TheCake · 21/03/2016 17:12

Oh no, I feel sorry for people who are pregnant and don't like getting blood taken. Mine is usually slow but it gushed out of me at my last appointment! The nurse said that pregnancy increases your blood flow. Good luck people with imminent scans. I have my official 12 week one on Wednesday (even though from the dating on my scan last Saturday I will be 13+4 then). Got some good news today as the results of my NIFTY test came through and they said I was low risk for everything (not sure of official numbers yet) and I'm having a baby girl! Smile

Figgygal · 21/03/2016 17:26

Wow cake they can tell you gender already? Is that because they test babies blood with the nipty?

I'm 12 weeks on Thursday no scan until next Thursday wish id bloody paid for one now. Am going to tell my parents this weekend and swear them to secrecy going to just have to avoid drawing suspicions to myself with everyone else.

Afreshstartplease · 21/03/2016 17:51

Wow a girl!

I'm going to pay for a 16 week gender scan, I'm not that fussed if it's a boy or girl but I do want to know

I got really car sick today and threw up my lunch
It was not nice

evs34 · 21/03/2016 19:36

Good news on nifty thecake. I have mine on Wednesday. How long did your results take? I had some spotting sat evening so going to epau tomorrow. Praying all ok but so hard to think positive. After our loss in November we have decided that if things go wrong this time we won't try again. Don't think I can physically or mentally start from the beginning again. Other than 2 months I have been pregnant since August!!! Good hearing all the other scan news. Xx

BigPigLittlePig · 21/03/2016 19:42

Oh fingers crossed for tomorrow evs - sounds as though you've had a tough few months.

It's incredible that you can find out the sex so early, really incredible. We didn't find out with dd, and won't this time, but when you think how it is defined from the moment of conception, it's bonkers.

Car journey sounds horrific, fresh. Hope you are feeling more human now.

Dd full of cold so has been up in the night a few nights running, so am consequently shattered. Dh kindly informed me "you look shit" as I staggered in from work Hmm

TheCake · 21/03/2016 20:10

Thanks everyone Smile Fingers crossed all is ok with the scan Evs. I waited 9 days (not just working days) for results- had them done a week past Saturday.

Figgygal it is amazing - they extract the babies DNA from your blood as there is cross over through the placenta. Looking forward to getting the actual numbers/ figures through the post (I love a statistic- especially a favourable one). I wasn't desperate to find out the sex but my partner wanted to know so I thought I should let him have some say for a change!

Afreshstartplease · 21/03/2016 20:15

Feel like dog shit

Hungry but shit with heartburn so scared to eat

Could cry

TeaGirl3 · 21/03/2016 20:28

Aw congratulations Cake!

Is anyone over 12 weeks taking any pregnancy vitamins? I've been taking Seven Seas Trying for a baby and am nearly at the end of my pack, when I'll reach 10 weeks. Is it recommended to continue taking vitamins? I'm not sure whether to start taking the SS Pregnancy vitamins instead.

athousandsplendidsuns · 21/03/2016 20:42

Hang in there fresh

BigPigLittlePig · 21/03/2016 20:54

For anyone wanting a giggle and some light hearted relief, can I recommend The Unmumsy Mums book? Have just read the first chapter (first bit of which is free on Kindle/Google etc) about pregnancy and have been proper chortling.

Teagirl I think the recommendation is to continue with a pregnancy multivitamin, although quite frankly, trying to swallow that horse pill is beyond me currently.

dottydimples · 21/03/2016 21:05

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish Fresh Thanks have a bath/shower and go to bed. Do whatever your body is telling you to. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Eves, fingers crossed everything is all good for you tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is okay - there is light at the end of the tunnel....I hope!
