Due in September 2007 - anyone else out there? What happens next?

OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

AnguaVonUberwald · 16/01/2007 16:28

I have also been getting cramps, though less this week than last (I am 6 + 5). No sickness yet but lots and lots of stomach acid.

Congratulations to all the new people joining.

I have had some mild period pains today. My ms has started but isn't too bad as yet. Mainly sore boobs and going to loo etc.

...but it's all v reassuring!!

How are you all?

Nettee · 16/01/2007 17:36

I am hoping for a home birth too. Planned one with DS but it didn't come off. Glad I planned it though because I think I got different/better care because of that.

Maretta third labours are more like second labours than first labours but anecdotaly they can be longer than the second or a bit more complicated in some way. I think it is because people expect them to be similar so notice if they are not... maybe? Hope the midwife gets to you in time this time - otherwise at least you have an experienced DH!

canadianmum · 16/01/2007 19:48

Hello all, welcome to new Sept ladies!

Period pains are getting less and less, but still occasionally have them. No ms....yet . Main symptom is being hungry practically all the time, and tired too.

My boys have just got over a one month run of chicken pox, they are finally returning to nursery school tomorrow after a 5 week break - I must say that I am looking forward to a couple of hours to myself to laze on the sofa .

Sherapop, glad to hear that St Georges is getting renovated. I was in Kings College maternity ward just after their major renovations were complete and they had no temp control so everyone in the wards were roasting at about 30 degrees (this was in November). Hope the St Georges ones go better. I have my GP appt on Monday, and will find out about possible hospitals.

Still not told anyone yet, plan to tell my best mate in Canada at the weekend; DH won't allow the news out before then!

missmapp · 16/01/2007 20:43

Hi all and congratulations and welcome to all those who have joined the thread.

Glad the scan went well eddiemcreddie, i hope the next scan is good news too

Bendybus - great news about your gp giving you a slip for an early scan, have you had a date yet?

Ive been feeling really bloated today. I normally going runnin a couple of times a week and have been too tired the last couple of weeks, so feel really lazy. Ill try to go on Sat - if i can muster enough energy!

Glad others have been having cramp style pains aswell - this makes me feel better. \Some days i think i imagined it all and AF is round the corner!

Flosamm - i went to the docs this week and she said to bk a midwife appt at 8-10 wks, it had been forward from 12wks to include info about early tests. So it may be worth checking out your midwife a bit earlier this time.

I hope everyone is having a good and healthy week and are not too sickly!!

kinki · 16/01/2007 22:35

Hello ladies, can I join your gang? I got my bfp yesterday and am quite excited. This is my 3rd, I have 2 ds's age 7 and nearly 2. Was shocked to see that I'm the oldest on the stats list, yikes, I'm 38. I don't really think of myself as old though.

I've been poorly for the last week with asthma related problems, and spent all day in A&E today (2nd time in a week). My poor little cluster of cells has already had to cope with about 7 different types of meds, an x-ray and a camera in my throat. And its only 2 weeks old. I'm getting muscle strain in my abdo with all the coughing. I picture the poor little mite holding on for dear life in fear of being coughed out!! I work in x-ray, and the doctor informed my colleagues that I'm pregnant. I'd only known myself for 24hours. I'm now in the weird position whereby all my colleagues know, but friends and family don't. We feel we might just as well let everyone know now.

I'll stop rambling now. I've just re-read what I've written and I sound like a hypercondriac. Don't worry, I'm not, I'm just tired and down after a long day. Lovely to meet you all, and I look forward to getting to know you and your bumps as the weeks go by. Take care!

Hi all. Joined this thread a few days back but didn't have a due date so here are my stats:

Me: 33
DP: 34
DD: 7 months
Due: 2nd September

Have had 'morning' sickness - its actually all day sickness to the point where I'm having trouble getting out of bed! Also had it with DD but it disappeared as soon as I hit the 12 week mark so 4 and a bit weeks to go! Hope everyone is feeling ok.

EllieG · 17/01/2007 09:40

Oh thank god other people are having cramps too! Some stupid woman I met last week told me having pain meant 'it was on it's way out' and though I went to the doc and she said was probably Ok have ben worried ever since.
Incase you haven't realised - I haven't done this before. I have a step-daughter who is 8 (will be adopting her too when baby born)but being pregnant is totally new, especially since it wasn't planned, (though very welcome). I haven't got a clue what I'm doing, and have been reading up franticly about pregnancy/babies and there's so much to do! I thought I was supposed to be all glowy and happy and instead I am spotty, grouchy with my partner and the little one and keep bursting into tears at the slightest thing. I'm very pleased I'm pregnant but I hate being spotty and I don't want to get fat and I am worried about work and money and whether I will be any good at it and everything really.
Sorry for moaning. Will go now before I bring you all down.

EllieG · 17/01/2007 09:59

Silly woman. Period cramps are totally normal unless very severe and accompanied by bleeding. Even then it doesn't necessarily mean you are miscarrying. I have had all sorts of aches and pains during this pregnancy and had nothing during my miscarriage so just goes to show...

...don't listen to her. Period pains can be scary but they just mean that your womb is gradually growing and stretching.

How is everyone today?? I keep wretching and the only thing that helps my ms is staying perfectly still. Oh well, good excuse for not doing anything!!

AnguaVonUberwald · 17/01/2007 11:21

Congratulations to the new joiners and so sorry for the people who have started having morning sickness. I have a very acid stomach but no morning sickness yet (fingers crossed).

I know this is TMI but I have had a "dicky stomach" - ok lets be honest - I have had the shits, since I found out I was pregnant - has anyone else got this? Starting to get a bit worried about it.

OP posts:
EllieG · 17/01/2007 11:34

Thank you! I feel much better about them now and very relieved.
As for the TMI - I had that round Xmas time/new year and just cleared up after a few days. I guess just drink plenty fluids and go to GP if doesn't stop. Probably better than being sick, which I seem to have been lucky in managing to avoid.
Am currently just being incredibly irrational and emotional - poor fella I live with bless him, is being very good and so far as only referred to my horrendous mood swings as me being 'a bit tetchy'. Although he did call me a poo head this morning when I hid his tobacco and gave him a 20 minute tirade on the dangers of passive smoking to the unborn. Am I going to get nicer again after a while?

I'll just update my age, looks like I'm NOT the baby of the group .

I have recently become obsessive about baby names, this happened in my first pregnancy too. DH and I have taken to saying names to each other randomly throughout the day, unfortunately we don't seem to agree very often!!

OMG Honey, I've just seen that I'm old enough to be your mother. Oooooohhhhhh, what have I done? I want to get off .......

Ajasec · 18/01/2007 12:26

EllieG - I felt EXACTLY the same when I was pregnant with my first DD. I found Mirium Stoppard's book on pregnancy a good place to start, although she's a bit twee. My DH hates me for the first 12 weeks of pg because i'm so foul . Mood swings galore. Enjoy!

Chattyhan · 18/01/2007 13:01

Hello everyone and congratulations. I've been a bit reluctant to add myself to the list and actually this is my first post.

My due date is 16th sep although that may be subject to change. I've had some spotting over the last week including some clots which set off the alarm bells and i had an early scan yesterday which concluded that everything looks fine for 5 weeks which moves my due date on a bit. I've got to go back in 2 weeks for a follow up and i'm just terrified that in 2 weeks things won't have progressed.

I had a missed miscarriage and a d&c 5 years ago and am terrified it is happening again.

I'm not in any pain but i'm so nervous every time i go to the loo as i see blood 4/5 times.

Anyway don't want to put a downer on everyones good news i just don't know how i'm going to get through the next 2 weeks.

Anyway i'll add myself to the list and fingers crossed!

auschick · 18/01/2007 13:03

I feel for you chattyhan. At least you can take reassurance from your scan that all is well so far. Yes - the weeks seem to go by so slowly during early pregnancy. I'm sure your little one will keep you busy....I know mine does! Hang in there.

There are lots of us in a similar position, pg after mc is very very hard. There is a thread called pg after mc part4, come and join us. Im sure you will find lots of help and advice on here from people that have been through similar.

I had a missed mc last year and am now terrified that it will happen again. Im having weekly scans becasue of some pain ive been having and the last one (my first, at 5 weeks) was too early to see a yolk so im terrified about tomorrow's.

Good luck and will chat soon xxxxxxxx
