OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

AnguaVonUberwald · 25/01/2007 11:36

Oh MY GOD. What a horrible/brilliant 24 hours.

Went home last night and had a heavy bleed and then more spotting. We thought it was all over. Phoned the doctor and asked if there was any point in going to the hospital for the scan. She said - if you don't get a full period you should go.

THERE IS A HEART BEAT!!!!! Most confusingly we are only six + 1 pregnant. So in theory couldn't possibly have been pregnant when we first tested postive.

Still spotting, still scared but THERE IS A HEART BEAT!!!!

AnguaVonUberwald - Fantastic news, I'm so pleased for you.

canadianmum - Thanks for your post. My DH is very keen to come to the first appointment - but I don't want the Dr to think "why have you both come" but then on the other hand if he's there I won't have to repeat everything to him when I get home

laksa · 25/01/2007 12:32

AnguaVonUberwald, so pleased for you the little beanie is obviously a toughie!
Glad you're also hanging in there chattyhan, hope the scan goes ok, will be crossing my fingers for you.
Factsandfigures, my DH wanted to come to my first appointment but I told him there was no point as would only be there for 5 mins ( I went today and I was right, I just filled in a form and doctor asked which hospital I wanted and that was it). My DH has been reading the blokes guide to pregnancy and keeps asking me Questions like, what kind of birth do you want? Do you want to know the sex of the child? Do you think you will go for an epidural? I keep answering....I don't know, we only found out a week ago!! He is funny though
Still no symptoms except increased appetite...took another test last night to check I hadn't dreamt the first one, well there were two in the box and I didn't want it to go to waste

atalantis · 25/01/2007 12:49

Am so delighted about the heartbeat, AnguaVonUberwald. How strange to have had a positive test before you could have been pregnant. Hope that the same hasn't happened to me. Like laksa, I've still got no symptoms (except sore boobs). I really hope that yours stay away until after your exam, laksa. Am going to the doctor on Monday, though am tempted to test again just to check that I really am pg. Is it worth ten pounds to keep my paranoia under control?

I hope that the ms sufferers are bearing up .

FactsAndFigures · 25/01/2007 13:00

Thanks for that Laksa - I'll tell DH about first appointment being a formality more than anything else

I too tested again yesterday - just to make sure. I did a clearblue digital and actually seeing the word "pregnant" made it sink in more than the 2 lines on the other test.

missmapp · 25/01/2007 14:26

So pleased you had a positive scan Angua, you must be relieved. Do you have another scan booked, or do you have to wait until the 12 week scan?

Hope everyone else is well and ms not too bad, mie is easing off this week with just a few waves of nausea so I hope thats it, I didnt have it very badly with ds so fingers crossed.

Good luck to all those going for scans etc and congrats and welcome to all the newies, what a growing band we are, christmas tv must really have been pants!

Chattyhan · 25/01/2007 15:08

hi all i must have jinxed it by saying all was well yesterday as have had more spotting today - it's put me in a really bad mood i just want the scan next tues to hurry up so i can find out what's happening!

factsandfigures - i took dp to the docs with me and we were both in the room for about 30 secs - The doc asked if i'd done a home test, if the pregnancy was wanted and then said congrats make an appointment with the midwife on the way out! dp thought it was a real waste of time!

Angua - so pleased for you i hope i get a simular result next week - as for being scared i know exactly what you mean!

HappyNewJaamy · 25/01/2007 15:19

WOW! Can't believe there's a Sept 07 thread! Takes me right back - How time flies!

Congratulations and Good luck to you all and hope the summer isn't too hot for you.

All the best from a Sept 05 MNer! x

HammerHeadShark · 25/01/2007 15:21

Hello ladies, would like to join the club please - congratulations to us all! Have just read through the rest of the thread and so pleased to hear about your positive scan Angua.

Found out recently I'm pregnant with our third, due on 25th September or thereabouts. I'm 38 and feel ancient now I have seen how many bright young things I'm sharing the thread with. We have 2yr old twin girls and were talking about whether we might try for another (obviously doing a bit more than talking )

Feel great just now (was very lucky with the twins and had NO morning sickness) and starting to think about getting my bum in gear and booking a dr.s appt, looking for a bigger car, eating healthily etc!

Looking forward to having a scan to find out if it is just the one this time - although the secret crazy part of me would love another set of twins.

GinGirl · 25/01/2007 16:16

Hello all! Have posted on the pregnancy thread and someone v kindly pointed me this way. Have had experience similar to Angua in a way.
Thought I was about 8 weeks last week and had some dark brown blood in discharge, as we were due to go away for two weeks GP sent me to EPAC. Was told at EPAC, 'there is something in there but we are more concerned about a possible ectopic on your ovary'. Was admitted and had emergency laparoscopy fllowing v high HCG result in blood test. Fully expected to wake up to be told I'd lost an ovary. Actually came round to be told there was no ectopic and for the moment I was still pregnant! All of this in less than 12 hours, bit of a rollar-coaster day!
Went back for repeat scan today and there is a baby in there! Its grown and we were shown the heartbeat on the internal scan! Am approx 6 weeks rather than 9, but don't care about that! Think am due mid September but need to go back for another scan next week!
Still haven't heard from the midwife so think I need to ring surgery and up-date them!
Oh and we didn't get to go on our holiday!

Congrats to us all, aren't we clever!
Have added self to list, apologies for such a long first post!
xx

Hi all. Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I went for a scan last week. Everything was ok, but there were two heartbeats . I've spent the last week getting used to the news. I am feeling pretty crap as well, really sick and tired. I am almost 9 weeks now. Hope everyone else is feeling ok. Good luck to those who have worries. I hope everything works out ok.

I've just slightly altered the list as I seemed to have lost my 'J' somewhere along the thread.

HammerHeadShark · 26/01/2007 09:28

Hi Jess - congratulations - what wonderful but slightly gobsmacking news . When we found out we were having twins I don't think I really got my head round it until I was presented with two beautiful babies. A little part of me is hoping there are another two in there this time!

Sorry to hear you are feeling so rotten - I think I was lucky to hardly get any sickness but I felt absolutely exhausted for the first 12 weeks - I felt much better at around 14 weeks, and my consultant had also started me on iron tablets by then to prevent anaemia which is more likely with multiples. Hope you feel much better soon and getting lots of pampering, as your body is doing something so amazing growing two little beans.

Hope everyone else is feeling tip top today.

laksa · 26/01/2007 09:41

oh my goodness, congratulations Jess, I watched a programme on multiple births last night, don't worry twins seemed like a breeze in comparison to triplets...you have two breasts after all . My family keep teasing about twins as my mum is one and my DH grandmother was one. I don't think it runs in the family though as they are both identical sets and think it is non identical fraternal side which runs in families

Fio fio, ouch !! Since you seem to be so accident prone I think dangerous activities such ironing etc should be avoided from now on

Umm, a slightly delicate question may be TMI but does anyone get period like cramps in their womb after orgasming. I keep getting this and wonder if I should refrain for a while, could I shake the beanie loose??

Hope everyone is still doing good xx

Flossam · 26/01/2007 11:11

Hi everyone. Good news this morning. Scan showed embryo is exactly the size it should be now and there is a heart beat. I am not going to chill and try not to worry all being well untill my 20 week scan.

Jess that is wonderful news.

Laksa, I'm afraid I haven't had the err, pleasure since BFP!! You are doing well! I think sex is supposed to be safe in pregnancy unless you are told otherwise?

EdieMcredie · 26/01/2007 11:33

Hi everyone, im fine just been working loads or feeling crap! Good news Flossam, well done and glad other have been having positive news aswell.

Im still being sick but gradually it has got so it is mainly only in the morning, thank god.

Is anyone showing yet? I have a very small bump but can hold it in if I try so not sure if its just padding.

Im seven weeks today!!!!

FactsAndFigures · 26/01/2007 14:50

Laksa - I found the following info on babycentre.co.uk

Is there anything I can do for ordinary cramps?

Orgasm:

? What you might experience: Cramps during and after orgasm, sometimes combined with a backache.

? What causes it: The veins of your pelvis may be congested. Or you may be tense; many people feel nervous about having sex during pregnancy.

? When it might occur: Any time during pregnancy.

? What to do: Although you needn't avoid sex during a normal pregnancy, you may want to take it soft and slow. A gentle post-orgasm back rub may help soothe the pain.

laksa · 26/01/2007 17:21

Thanks facts and figures, I can now regularly demand postorgasmic backrubs from the DH ...well he needs the practise for labour right? I think cramps are supposed to normal in early pregnancy as the uterus is swelling, its only a problem if you get bleeding and cramping I think, but I'm sure there are other people who know more on this thread.

sophus · 26/01/2007 17:36

Hi

Guess it's time for me to join up. i've been lurking a while and posting occasionally mainly on the horrors of morning sickness. (24 hours a day - not had a moment's relief since it started). i didn't want to jinx anything by "signing up" but i had a scan today (am 8 wks) and there appears to be an upside down baby hamster with a heartbeat down there in the right place. I am also an oldie and will hopefully be popping this one out a few weeks before turning 39.
