OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

AnguaVonUberwald · 23/01/2007 16:49

Have definitly decided to go for a scan, if we can't get one on the NHS we will pay for one privatly as suggested. Just want to know that at least its ok so far, even if there are no guarantees for the future.

I hope everyone else is doing ok, morning sickness isn't stopping your lives too much etc.

I am sorry not to post specific replies to posts, but just so tired and stressed.

Will let you know what happens next.

(p.s. the good news is no more cramping and just a little spotting first thing in the morning still)

Saw the GP today and got my pregnancy notes to complete for the midwife - all so exciting - can't wait for the scans and hearing the heart beat. Am staving off the worst of the morning sickness by stuffing myself with bread and water biscuits. have bought a book called the morning sickness companion which makes me feel better about the whole thing too...

Angua, glad to hear the cramping has stopped and the spotting is slowing down, looking out for news of your scan when you have it

Ajasec - lots of people have told me about diffent amounts of sickness in different pregnancies. They say girls make you sicker so maybe you have a DS on the way?

lissielou · 23/01/2007 18:16

hi, edd is 1st of oct but will be having a cs so thought id nip onto here as well, how many weeks is everyone?

Flossam · 23/01/2007 18:21

Hi Lissielou, I'll be 7 weeks tomorrow hopefully. Waiting for a repeat scan on Friday to check the pregnancy is viable. If you know you are having a C section you may as well stay here! Congratulations.

lissielou · 23/01/2007 18:26

thanks im only 4+3 but decided to be positive this time

canadianmum · 23/01/2007 18:50

Hi lissielou, I am 6 and a half weeks. Welcome to you and atalantis!

Had a bit of a scare today, dropped my boys off at nursery school and there was a note saying that "slapped cheek" virus is going around the local area. Came straight home and did a Google and unfortunately it can be risky for early pregnancy! Phoned my GP straightaway who told me to have a blood test today to check my immunity, which I did. Hopefully I am immune, as 50-60% of adults are but won't find out until next week. Stress!!!!

missmapp · 23/01/2007 20:25

Hi all,

Angua - glad the cramping has stopped - these are good signs! a scan is an excellent idea as it will help you relax ) stress cant be good!)

Im 8 + 1 weeks today, only a month till 12 weeks and I can start telling people, hopefully have a scan around taht time too as have booked for a nuchal scan - will be great to finally see something !

Cant believe how bloated i`m feeling, trousers are already feeling tight! Im sure this didnt happen for ages last time - oh dear, maybe I should cut back on the chocolate.

Hope all are well and not suffering with ms too much, mine is better today after a bad few days. im on a school trip tomorrow with my class - doing shop and traffic surveys 9 outside all a.m ) and snow is forecast ! Oh the joys!

Take care all

TOD · 23/01/2007 20:56

Hi all!
Welcome lissielou and atlantis!
Glad to hear cramping has stopped agua and that you will have a scan also....keep us posted.
As for me i had a tiny bit of spotting yeserday but trying to remain positive as i feel sick as a small hospital.....and am taking that as a good sign!!!!!!! Roll on Fri week for next scan, good luck eedie with yours too.

lissielou · 24/01/2007 08:19

anyone else get back ache? cant remember if i had it with ds and after the mcs am worried sick

atalantis · 24/01/2007 09:50

Hi all. Thanks for your welcomes. I was just wondering if anyone else is not having any symptoms. I've got slightly sore boobs, but nothing else at all and am starting to wonder if I invented the pink spots on the tests I did. I think I'm about 6 weeks. I spoke to my mum, who said that she never had ms or any other problems during pregnancy, but I'm still wondering what's going on when I read about all your symptoms. I suppose I really shouldn't be wishing ms on myself!

Good luck for your scan, Angua. I hope that everyone else's symptoms stay under control.

FactsAndFigures · 24/01/2007 10:06

Hello I would like to join you as I got my BFP yesterday, I am 5 weeks + 2.

I've felt queasy on and off since the weekend but to be honest that's all I'm feeling at the moment.

This will be baby #1 so like some of you have already raised I'm not to sure when to go to Dr's but thought I would wait for next week when I'll be 6 weeks - and then I'll only have to wait 6 weeks until the scan

Anyway, I look forward to chatting with you and sharing pg stories whilst we're on the same journey!!

atalantis · 24/01/2007 10:10

Hello FactsandFigures and congratulations! Can I just ask a foolish question? Does '+2' mean '+2 days'?

FactsAndFigures · 24/01/2007 10:17

Hi Atlantis - yes I am 5 weeks + 2 days, I must of been thinking what to write faster than I could type!!

I was just reading your last post about lack of symptoms. I too am a bit concerned as I'm not really feeling anything either (apart from slight nausea but not sure if I'm imagining this!) however, I've heard and read that this is quite normal and isn't necessarily a bad thing - perhaps we should just make the most of it

laksa · 24/01/2007 11:16

Atalantis, facts and figures , I have no symptoms either apart from the fact that I now wake up ravenously hungry every morning! It could be because we haven't reached the 6 week mark yet. I am hoping to avoid MS as I have an exam to study for which is on the 22feb Just realised forgot to add myself to the list

Hello all! Facts and atalantis, I don't have many symptoms yet (only 5+1), maybe a bit of slight nausea and increased appetite. With ds1 I didn't get anything worse than nausea. With ds2 I was sick just a few times at around the 8-10 week mark. I know others that didn't get any symptoms at all. No symptoms just means you're lucky!

I was told yesterday to check in with the midwife for when I'm 8 weeks for the booking in session, which will last 45 mins, and also to see the GP next week when I'll be 6 weeks. Protocols vary a lot from area to area, so the best thing is to ring the surgery and ask.

Best wishes and positive vibes to all of you that are going through a worrying time at the moment. Stay strong.

Chattyhan · 24/01/2007 11:56

Hi all - just wanted to update that bleeding has stopped and i'm feeling much more positive. Time isn't going as slowly as i feared but i really want to get next weeks scan out of the way!

TOD feel for you as i have a very active ds who's 25 m so looks like we're in simular positons!

Welcome factsandfigures and atalantis, i had a couple of no symptom days over the weekend - it does make me feel anxious. But like you say maybe just lucky!

Ajasec - i also heard a rumour that you get less ms with boys!

Angua - i hope things are going ok for you and you've managed to get a scan sorted?

Lissielou - i'll keep my fingers crossed for you xx

FactsAndFigures · 24/01/2007 11:58

Hi laksa - hope MS stays away until after your exam - Good Luck

kinki - many thanks, your post is reassuring. Thanks also for the advice on contacting Midwife and Dr.

Doctor said. "No idea what the odds are, if its ok or not. By now you should have either had a big rush of blood or stopped spotting."

So been sent for an emergency scan tommorow morning!!!

Been spotting for 10 days now.

OP posts:
chicca · 24/01/2007 22:10

Fingers crossed for tommorrow - good luck Angua.

Flossam · 24/01/2007 22:19

Good luck Angua.

Welcome to all the new people! I felt much less sick with DS I am sure. I could feel sick the mornings, sink a fried breakfast down my neck and be a ok!! This time, all that grease makes me feel all the more sick, fruit salad is a better breakfast option!

I'm ok still, no bleeding as yet. Ms has improved, if anything which I am trying very hard not to worry about. I'm incredibly tired and generally feel run down. Boobs are sore. No further cramping though for several days. So am trying to stay positive for scan in a not overly positive, still must worry kind of way. Only one more day to go anyhow.

Zyla · 24/01/2007 23:12

Hi All

Congrats to everyone!
I'd like to add myself to this thread. I found out I'm expecting my first a week last Saturday, and have worked out my due date to be roughly 11th Sept. Wasn't really paying any attention to what was happening as this was totally unplanned. I really thought the nausea was from too much junk food over the holidays!

DH and I are really looking forward to having a babe although we're still getting over the shock - just means our babymaking schedule has been moved forward a year.

This seems so unreal at the moment - I feel like I have a stomach bug rather than being pg! Does ms usually increase in intensity as time goes on? I've been booked in to see the midwife tomorrow because I've had some spectacular exorcist-style throwing up for the last few days; in the previous weeks I've just felt waves of sickness & maybe brought something up if it didn't agree with me. I'm really hoping this doesn't become the norm.

Well, enough with the essay. Just wanted to say that this is going to be a novel and exciting journey for me, and I'm looking forward to taking it with the rest of you!!

Nettee · 25/01/2007 09:33

oohh I feel sickkkkkkkkkk.......

so far only sick once a day in the morning but tired and nauseous all day

Welcome Zyla - everyone is different with morning sickness but I think that in general once you have got to 8 weeks it isn't going to get any worse, just have to wait for it to get better, and pray that it will do at around 12 - 14 weeks.

FactsAndFigures · 25/01/2007 10:39

Flossam - keep positive

Welcome Zyla - I hope everything goes well for you and look forward to talking to you more.

I've just made my first Dr's appointment but couldn't get in until next Friday still I'm looking forward to making it 'official'

Can I ask at your first Dr's appointment did you go on your own or take DP/DH's?

canadianmum · 25/01/2007 11:01

I went on my own to the GP, my DH is not terribly involved, won't read any books, isn't really interested in the details IYKWIM. Says he should be able to go to the first scan but after that I am probably on my own unless there is a problem. He is forgiven for this because he is a fabulous hands-on Dad, just not very interested until he gets a child to play with!!
