thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Ipatch don't worry about the twinges and the cramps. All perfectly normal growing pains. The indigestion will get worse in a few days you'll feel like a blimp with noxious fumes emanating loudly from both ends and you'll probably get painful trapped wind but again this is normal.

There's nothing I can say that will stop you worrying. I worry too sometimes. I've got my 12 week scan in two weeks and I worry that I've got this far and they're going to tell me that there's something wrong but in truth that's unlikely and if it does happen there is nothing I can do. The best thing we can all do is try to relax and enjoy pregnancy in between painful twinges, painful gas, exhaustion and vomiting as staying relaxed means that our bodies will automatically nourish the baby better. There are also studies that suggest that stress hormones during pregnancy can effect a child later in life making them more anxious and even effecting intelligence and speech. Remaining chilled and forcing yourself to believe that everything will be ok is definitely the way to go Smile

Indi most of us sneakily POAS every couple of days for the first week or so... The urge goes away eventually Wink

It's really reassuring to hear everyone feels pretty much the same in terms of worrying about how pre-bump is all the time.

I don't like feeling tired or gassy or nauseous, but the second I don't I'm so paranoid and nervous to go to the loo in case I've bled.

Hopefully my brain will calm down soon and I'll relax. I didn't really expect to feel like this, though I guess it kinda makes sense.

(I'm 4+1 today as well btw)

LisaTheGreek · 02/02/2016 22:07

Out of interest, how long can we keep POASing for? Does the hormone keep producing right until 40 weeks, or do tests eventually become negative as the hormones change?

Runner05 · 02/02/2016 23:21

Lisa at some point (usually in the first trimester) the tests will stop working due to you having too much of the hormones in your system.

Lots of newbies!

Has anyone else noticed that they feel the cold a lot more since being upduffed?! I never used to but am freezing all the time in the office, so much so that my nails adopt a blue-ish tinge.

I wonder why that is?!

Runner05 · 03/02/2016 08:00

How many weeks are you Soph?

I had the cold thing but I think it disappeared about week 8.

Nevlet · 03/02/2016 08:05

Sophie i had the freeeezing cold issue to and its tailed off this week and am now 9+2!

Head has been pounding and spinning all night whilst I lay awake worrying about if I missed work today etc so have a drs appointment at 10. I dont know what I expect them to do as I know I cant have anything other than paracetamol!

BunchOfBobs · 03/02/2016 08:16

Soph, I definitely had that but it's failed off now. (I'm 12+4).
Nev that sounds hideous, I hope the Drs can help.

I'm suffering from my first pregnancy cold. Damn flights- I always get one on the way home. Orange juice and paracetamol are my only friends.

Nevlet · 03/02/2016 08:35

Thanks bunch have always suffered quite severe headaches which have needed really strong painkillers from the dr... Its wiping me out with just as you are on the oj and paracetamol! Dont think my job helps either noisey classrooms are not ideal!

LisaTheGreek · 03/02/2016 09:04

Sophie, yes, same here. I'm not actually someone who usually feels the cold that much, so recently it's felt like I've moved to the Arctic!

It's supposed to be about 10 degrees in London today but it feels much lower.

I'm 5 weeks today Smile

rosetintedspectacles · 03/02/2016 10:08

Oh I had the cold thing too! Now it's swung the other way- I'm 9+1 and feeling hotter than normal, especially at night! I keep waking up needing the loo at around 4am, then struggling to get back to sleep because I'm so warm.

Has anyone found their exhaustion easing early in week 9? I was SO tired all the time in weeks 5/6/7, and could've napped for a good two or three hours a day, but I've definitely been feeling a little brighter the last day or so.

Anyone else?

Mileymoocow · 03/02/2016 10:30

soph I'm 4+2 today and have been freezing the past couple of days too.

runner it went amazingly. I'm so lucky to have a boss like him Grin he was genuinely so happy for me and was talking about when his wife was pregnant and stuff. Think he was concerned I was going to be handing my notice in as I asked to see him in private so was probably relieved! We've agreed I'm allowed to work on low risk stuff for now but he's definitely going to be keeping an eye on me

DrWhy · 03/02/2016 10:41

Glad things went well Miley my boss is based overseas and I'm travelling there in weeks 12 and 13 for a training course so assuming the private scan in the week before was OK I plan to tell him face to face there - not sure it's going to go as well as yours did! ive only been in the role since the start of Jan!
Sophie I feel the cold pretty badly usually but since I've been pregnant I seem to be permanently frozen. I'm also totally exhausted all the time, not been awake past 9.30pn for about 2 weeks. I am meant to be going winter hillwalking this weekend, suspect I'll spend the time curled up by the fire with a book instead!
Offer in on the house this morning (blind auction) we compromised on a bit higher than I'd have liked but not every penny as DH wanted. Fingers very crossed now - should know by 12.30....

Mileymoocow · 03/02/2016 11:03

Thanks drwhy, I was nervous for telling him as it felt weird other people knowing! Hopefully yours goes well and your boss reacts well! Smile

I have a pain on the right hand side if my lower back. It's driving me nuts! Anyone else experience this?

BunchOfBobs · 03/02/2016 11:05

Eek Dr so exciting.
FX for you.
Where is your boss based if you don't mind me asking? The thought of travelling overseas anymore is a daunting one with zika. We were planning a Spain trip in May but I don't fancy going anywhere warm anymore until we know the full extent/risk of it. Sorry I don't mean to be scare mongering.

Glad to hear it went so well Miley.
I told my main client (I'm self employed) a week and half ago and I'm pretty certain that's me now out of work with them. They've been lovely and congratulatory but my main role involves working offshore and they've suggested (and DH and I agree) I shouldn't do that anymore. When I prompted for any desk work I was told I'll be "kept in mind but please keep us updated with how the pregnancy gets on. We wish you both huge congratulations". Sounds like a pat on the head of ever I heard one. Sigh.

Mileymoocow · 03/02/2016 11:13

bunch I'm going to Dubai in march and zante in June and admittedly am slightly worried!

IndiX · 03/02/2016 11:21

Good luck for the house dr!
Miley I'm so glad your boss was supportive, I'm sure it feels a bit more real now that you've told a 'real' person.
Going to try and catch up on the thread after I've finished at the gym, hope you're all doing well though.
I'm 4+1 today and nervous as I was due my period tomorrow so I'm going to take the remaining FRER that I have in my drawer, in the morning crazy I know.
I was wondering what pregnancy vitamins you girls are taking? I took the pre-pregnancy seven seas but have finished that now and need to change to pregnancy ones eeeek!

Mileymoocow · 03/02/2016 11:47

indi I take the centrum during pregnancy ones now. Had the pre pregnancy ones which I thought were good :)

I'm terrified of going to the gym now incase I dislodge my little bean. Crazy I know!! But I'm a total worrier

IndiX · 03/02/2016 12:09

I was worried too Miley but before I was pg the Dr said as long as I'm used to exercise now nothing should affect the baby. Tbh though I am lowering my pace slightly on my runs and doing a bit more body weight/weight exercises than loads of cardio. I'm sure you'll be fine. Will try the centrum ones then, thank you xx

Laurenrl · 03/02/2016 12:26

Little bit of brown blood when wiping again today 9 days after the last time it happened and I went to the doctor, I'm constantly scared even though they said it can be normal :( wish it wouldn't happen especially at work

Nevlet · 03/02/2016 13:18

Indi i have been taking morrisons own as i have quite a sensitive stomach and they have been the easiest on it!

Shelb been to the drs... They checked everything over there first thought was blood pressure which was fine. Putting headaches down to hormones/stress at work/poor sleep. She did a urine test just to see and despite no symptoms at all have a uti! And am allergic to the antibiotics which you are allowed in pregnancy! They wanted to sign me off till after half term I said no but would take rest of week off and revisit on monday if no better. They dont know what to do about the uti as i cant have the antibiotics so theyve just told me to drink and wee as much as i can and wait and see!

IndiX · 03/02/2016 13:34

Thanks nev, I ended up getting the seven seas ones as that's all my asda offered really and didn't fancy paying £10.99 for a month's worth. I hope you feel better soon, i heard cranberry juice is the best to flush your system so maybe try that? And obviously lots of water. Get better and rest up X

BunchOfBobs · 03/02/2016 13:38

Nev sounds like you're having a time of it. Before I went to NYC I had to go to out of hours for a suspected UTI. All the symptoms but no sign of infection. They put me on antibiotics anyway. How we'd our bodies are.
Get yourself to a Holland and barratt or health food shop to get some unsweetened pure cranberry juice I got a concentrated form which needed diluting. Ocean spray will not help you in this instance.
FX you get rid of it quickly.

Laurenrl · 03/02/2016 14:58

Nev, also had a uti and allergic to pencilling but they gave me another tablet which I read the leaflet ten times and it said fine in pregnancy, do you want the name?
