thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

Runner05 · 27/01/2016 15:07

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Thanks lauren that would be great!

Laurenrl · 03/02/2016 15:13

www.drugs.com/nitrofurantoin.html

:) it took my doctor a good 20 mins to remember it so makes sense yours didn't know!

Nevlet · 03/02/2016 15:20

Thanks but am more allergic to that than amoxicillin and penicillin!

They have yet to find an oral antibiotic that i dont have a reaction to... Last few times I have needed antibiotics I have ended up in hospital on a drip!

Laurenrl · 03/02/2016 15:24

Oh dear! Sorry, worth a try though! Sucks being allergic to loads doesn't it

Nevlet · 03/02/2016 15:30

Its a nightmare! Was fine until a couple of years ago (admittedly couldnt tell you last time i had been to drs before this) and got a kidney infection and they couldnt find an antibiotic that stayed in my stomach more than 5 minutes!

Morwenna1 · 03/02/2016 17:29

Nev That does sound like a nightmare being allergic to antibiotics! Yep, as others have said, just drink tons of water to flush your system out and hopefully the H&B cranberry juice will help too.

Rose There have been a couple of occasions where I've got really hot at night, waking up sweating! V.weird as I'm usually cold!

Lisa You can pee on sticks to your hearts content until around 7-8 weeks. At that time I found that because the hormone level is really high it actually starts showing up as a fainter line and can even show negative! (It's called the Hook effect) At this point, stop. You'll drive yourself nuts with worry and the chances are everything is fine.

Dr Good luck with the house! I can't imagine going through a house purchase at the same time as being pregnant, you brave woman!

Miley That's good news about your boss. I won't mention the reason for fear of completely outing myself, but I told my boss today (wanted to wait till I'd had the scan but couldn't because of circumstances). She was very supportive and understanding Smile Makes all the difference when you have a nice boss, doesn't it?! I dread to think the reaction I would have had in the past...

OK, so I'm back to 'where are my symptoms' stage....I know they are meant to ease off now, but I'm starting to count down the days till my scan! Indi and Irreg the worry has started and doesn't completely stop until they are 18 years of age I think (and maybe not even then!)Grin

sophied1983 · 03/02/2016 17:47

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels like they're living in the Arctic.

I hear you on the tiredness, been asleep at 9pm most nights. Think I might cancel my gym as usually go in the morn, but getting up at 6am has been killing me. Might cancel, save the cash and maybe find some pregnancy yoga.

Am 8+3 today. Time is draaaaaging.

Still got a really upset tummy but midwife said pregnancy can cause a flare-up of my ulcerative colitis... oh the joy!

DrWhy · 03/02/2016 18:58

Bunch my boss is in Northern Europe so no Zika worry there - main concern is that the NHS won't be very impressed if I'm unavailable for the whole of weeks 12 and 13! May have to rely on the private scan and then late NHS one. Zika has kind of killed our plans for a last warm holiday before the baby though, on the other hand I'm darn glad I'm not still living in the tropics. I think you've probably made the right call not being offshore, just the exposure to the chemicals you'd encounter in collecting and washing samples wouldn't be great. Fingers crossed for some onshore work but it is grim out there at the moment.
Thanks for all the best wishes on the house - our bid won!! Exciting so we spent the afternoon in the bank finalising the mortgage application - subject to that we'll have a new house in about 6 weeks.
Just to add to the fun and games DH is working overseas through March and April so I'll probably be doing the move in (and associated cleaning and redecorating on my own) and the company has announced yet more redundancies in the last month but not yet who or where - so no stress there then!

Runner05 · 03/02/2016 20:12

Dr that's amazing news about the house. Even if you do need to do all the work yourself at least you'll have a lovely new home when baby arrives.

We're still waiting for OHs old house to sell. It's taking a little longer than expected but I think that's because the estate agent isn't very good so going to change as soon as the contract is up.

Soph I'd definitely be cancelling the gym. But I think I'd have trouble walking around the block at the moment!

Nev that's awful about the antibiotics. I'm very slightly allergic but not enough to stop me taking them (they make me dizzy and nauseous)

Indi I'm on seven seas pregnancy vits and they seem ok to me. They're reasonably priced too. I got a load on 3 for 2 so I'm set for the next few months Wink

Lauren I'm sure all will be well with the brown blood. They do say it's only red blood you need to worry about.

I feel awful today. I was really badly sick this morning and I've just felt like roadkill ever since. I've spent most of the day sleeping and having really weird dreams.
Feel really guilty too as I haven't been to see mum since last week and I won't be able to go now until next week but I just feel too ill to get in the car Sad

Runner - hope you feel better soon.

I have no sickness, probably much too early (4w) but am very anxious about the possibility of both sickness and the point where I have to wee all the time because I have a job where I can't just dash off to the loo. How are you ladies with sickness/endless weeing coping at work?

Runner05 · 03/02/2016 21:28

I'm afraid I've been signed off of work since about 7 weeks when I nearly vomited on a co worker Confused

It certainly isn't an option to not run to the loo though for either reason as with weeing I don't know about anyone else but it isn't your normal I need the loo I'll go in a minute... It's more, I need the loo right now!!!!!

BunchOfBobs · 03/02/2016 21:41

Oh Dr that's amazing news. Huge congrats!! Talk to your midwife about getting a scan at 11 weeks. If you're wanting any screening done I'm pretty sure they can be done from 11 weeks.

Runner I really hope the second trimester is much kinder to you. You've had a time of it. Try not to feel guilty, the stress of that is not going to make you feel any better.

I've never felt so hideous with a cold in my life. I've spent most of the day dozing and when DH came home with flowers for me I burst into tears because I just feel sooo tired and rubbish and he was so lovely. Headaches, dizziness, constant sneezing and general crapness is wearing. Doesn't help I have a snot monster of a dog who has been stealing tissues out of my hand all day who then vomited said tissues all over the sofa. Gah! Snuck in another nap at 7 which made me feel well enough for tea. Bedtime now though.

I hope everyone who is not feeling well feels better tomorrow.

Runner05 · 03/02/2016 22:03

Oh Bunch that sounds dreadful! I really hope you start feeling better soon.

OP posts:
IndiX · 03/02/2016 22:14

Oh bunch I hope you feel better soon, I did have to chuckle at your dog being a tissues stealing snot monster, sounds like something one of mine would do!

DrWhy · 03/02/2016 22:30

Runner that sounds absolutely grim, I do hope you start to feel better soon. To sell his flat DH offered the agents a sliding scale of fees, less than they'd asked if it sold for less, more if it sold for more. I thought it was an odd approach but they went all out and he had a full price offer in 48 hours, that said, it was in London Confused
Bunch you have my total sympathy, I have slight cold at the mo, which wouldn't usually bother me but I'm so tired and vaguely queasy that it's just that last straw.
ipatches try not to worry too much, I'm 8+3 and so far have been queasy some days but never sick and not weeing much more than normal - although I probably don't drink enough.

BunchOfBobs · 04/02/2016 08:13

Thanks guys. My sleep pattern is totally ruined at the mo, I think due to the cold. Last few days I have really struggled to get back to sleep- usually takes 2 hours and then I nap in the day due to tiredness. Not a surprise the cycle continues.

After a two nap day yesterday I wasn't suprised to struggle to drift off then was wide awake after my wee. Struggled to settle for ages then realised I was starving. On my return from banana grabbing I saw it was 6.30am. Result- that meant I slept too around 5am. Almost a whole nights sleep. First in weeks wahoo!!

Downside. I'm now falling asleep on the sofa again. I feel the need for a nap Confused Cold has moved to my chest too and with asthma that can always prove fun!

I hope everyone has a better day today.
My delightful dog is on a strict diet (trying to figure out allergies) and has taken to eating anything he can (hence the snot monster) and this morning has come in from the garden, washed my hand and then proceeded to do a poo burp in my face. I could throttle this furry love sometimes!! Breakfast mark two was clearly enjoyed.Envy

LisaTheGreek · 04/02/2016 08:35

Congrats on the house Dr! That's great news! I've been decorating completely renovating the house me and OH moved into 18 months ago. It's needed absolutely everything doing but it's very satisfying and we're now reaching the end (fx!).

Sorry to hear about the horrible time you've had, Runner, that sounds awful. You poor thing.

And sorry about how tired you are, Bunch, I hope you get more good nights of sleep over the next few weeks.

shelbTa · 04/02/2016 10:00

Hi ladies, how is everyone?

Trying to keep up with thread, sorry not posting much.

Aw runner that sounds really rough. Are you actually throwing up now then? Virtual hug.

I feel really rough again today, sat at my desk trying to hold it together.

X

Runner05 · 04/02/2016 12:08

Morning all, hope you're all feeling a bit better today. I'm feeling awful again Sad just don't understand it. I should be starting to recover but I'm being sick more often and I just feel dreadful.

We have the step kids this weekend and my mum is moving into the care home tomorrow. I desperately need to pull myself together but all I want to do is sleep.

All I keep thinking is it's a bloody good thing I only want one kid because I'm never bloody putting myself through this again!

Sorry for the me, me, me, feeling a bit on the pathetic side.

OP posts:
Nevlet · 04/02/2016 12:23

Oh no runner and shelb! Only a few weeks left till second trimester and it should all get a bit better?

Think i am a tad better today on third day at home and getting a rest... Headache better and still no actual uti symptoms so hoping I am flushing it out without the antibiotics!

My mum is being very lovely on her day off and doing a food shop at the nearest town for me and coming to see me later (we live rural/coastal so not seen anyone apart from oh since tuesday morning!)

Morwenna1 · 04/02/2016 17:22

I think UTI's can disappear of their own accord Nev so keep topping up the glass! with water obvs

How far along are you now Runner? I have noticed this week that I'm not as tired as I have been, I hope my energy is returning a bit!

Still bad backache...and lovely acid reflux in the evenings, joy!

This is a stupid question, maybe you'll know Pink - was I meant to ring to find out if there was anything picked up in my bloods and wee sample from the booking in appt, or would they contact me if there was an issue? Did they ring you to tell you about the platelets Pink? I kind of assumed they'd be in touch if there was a problem!

IndiX · 04/02/2016 17:54

So sorry to hear a few of you are feeling shitty, it's hard work this making a human malarkey!
I'm only in very early stages but I am EXHAUSTED, especially today. Like my eyes were stinging to keep open and I never nap in the day but had to put my head down for 30mins before. Also had a little cry for no reason and then I felt a bit better. God help DH in these next 9 months!
Hope you are all doing ok and these colds/UTI's/general crappiness leaves you soon.

shelbTa · 04/02/2016 19:01

Hang in there runner Thanks queue google comment - 'I've read' that the 10th week is the peak of ms so hopefully it might die down soon?

How your pink?

Hi everyone!

I feel much better than I did when I posted earlier, thank god!

X

Pinklily1 · 04/02/2016 19:06

Hi ladies

Sorry that more of us are feeling unwell. It's rubbish.

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and, touch wood, feeling a bit better. I'm managing to eat and drink more at least. I've survived four days back at work so far. The distraction has been brilliant but I am absolutely shattered. I've been going to bed at about 8pm, falling straight to sleep and then waking every night between 2-3am needing the loo. Then I don't get back to sleep properly afterwards. It's so frustrating. My tiredness has definitely got worse but I think that's linked to being back at work.

Runner, could you manage a short walk with your OH at the weekend maybe? I had to drag myself out but found a little walk, even 10 minutes, in the fresh air really helped.

Mor, they rang me about my platelets. The midwife had said she would only contact me with the results if there was an issue, and otherwise she would just update me on them at my 16 week appointment.

Who is next to have a scan?

Pinklily1 · 04/02/2016 19:07

Ps I also went bra shopping today - I've gone up 2 cup sizes already Shock
