thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

She just said the labour ward was really busy, and the birthing centre was nice if you wanted a natural birth as best as poss. The birthing centre also has more pools where as the labour ward at my hospital only has 1 pool.

Runner05 · 12/02/2016 17:18

Are you thinking of a water birth then Danni?

I'm undecided, part of me doesn't fancy it but from what I've heard from others and seen on one born it does seem that people who have water births get less distressed. It's also supposed to feel a bit more private.

Ok, I'm so far behind. We call ours little bean too! How weird is that.

Also, re baby names: we have ours picked out, too. I love Freya and was one of my options until my mother got a new cat and called her Freya! The other is called lottie and I love Charlotte too. She really needs to stop getting cats.

We have a new hospital near us and the maternity suite is swanky! We get to have a look round after our 12 week scan and I'm very excited. We all get our own rooms with lots of homely touches which is so much nicer than a ward. I'm not good with gunk so don't think a water birth is for me.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in worrying about my body. I feel ridiculous because of course it's going to change and it's going to be worth it, but I already have put on 3lb and I'm only 5+4! No change to my diet, either. I have a touch of bodydismorphia and with my anxiety comes eating disorders which is a worry. I'm 5 foot 9, just under 11 stone now and am still in a 10 but not sure for how much longer!

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 18:20

I really fancy a water birth but not sure if once I get there I'll completely change my mind. Also not sure if we are moving quite soon before I give birth (to back near our parents) so I may have to have what I can get at late notice haha. We also have 2 boys and 2 girls names already picked out and were pretty much decided before I even got pregnant.

Also got one of our favourite names taken by BIL's dog, Nora. Grrr haha

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 18:20

Oh and we call our little one Micro :)

Danni89 · 12/02/2016 18:23

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with a water birth.. Or at least start out there and see how it goes

BunchOfBobs · 12/02/2016 19:03

Water birth is on the cards for me too and I'm down for giving birth in my local midwife led unit as long as I need no interventions and stay low risk. Fx!

DrWhy · 12/02/2016 19:10

At the booking in appointment the midwife put me down for a hospital birth in my notes without even asking me! I raised it this week when I had my blood tests and that (different) midwife said that the consultant led and midwife led units both came under the hospital in our city. I mentioned that I really wanted a water birth and knew they didn't have a pool at consultant led. She mentioned that there was only one pool in the hospital midwife led unit too so not a very high chance. She then said I could go to the midwife unit in a nearby town (30-40 mins away) where each room had a pool or give birth at home - even for my first. Unfortunately she didn't write any of this down but definitely going to look into the other unit, had no idea I'd be allowed.
I've always loved water (swimmer, diver and free diver) and really really want a water birth.

LisaTheGreek · 12/02/2016 19:11

I've really come round to the idea of a water birth recently. I'm not 100% sure yet, and like Miley the gunk freaks me out a little as I'm a very clean and tidy person. But I'll think about it.

Lauren, I love the name Nora. Such a shame!

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 19:11

I'd like a water birth too. My sister had one in a pool and one not and she said with the pool she didn't feel the 'stinging' down there as much. I don't like the idea of being in there for long once the baby comes out though - I literally want to pop if out and then jump out. Don't want to be hanging around in gross water Shock

I can't have my favourite boys name apparently as it's also the name of our friends dogs. I love animals but on this occasion I am not the dogs friend!

Miley, if I remember correctly you are in the north east. If so, from your description of the new hospital I suspect we will be having babies at the same place (though not at the same time!)

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 19:27

I know Lisa, really annoying haha absolutely loved that name for years. Happy with my girl names though, if we have a boy we are a bit more stuck as we like the 2 we have but haven't found anything we adore like the 2 girls

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 19:32

Oo while I remember to ask; I've always wanted my name to be the same as the baby's, but since we wanted a baby so badly we haven't gotten round to getting married first. DP wants a huge wedding I would gladly walk to the local registry office in my jeans but won't do that as I know it's important to him to do it properly with everyone there. So I've been looking into changing my name in advance so I can take his name now and we will all have the same name on the birth certificate- is that weird? Would I have to tell work/ everyone or could i just use it for the crazy purpose I want it for? Haha

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 19:46

Lauren, if you change it by deed poll I would assume you'd have to change your bank accounts, drivers licence etc as the new name would be your legal name. Then presumably you'd have to tell work for payroll purposes (ie account holders name).

Runner05 · 12/02/2016 19:55

Lauren I had to change my name by deedpole a couple of years ago (I'd been going by a different first name for most of my life and it was just getting confusing as I kept forgetting my legal name Blush)

It's very easy and cheap to do, you can even do it online but once you do it will become your legal name and you will have to inform your bank, work, dvla etc.

Oh, and I'm in the same situation. Because of circumstances outside of our control we knew we wouldn't be able to get married until next year but I wanted a baby before I turn 35 because I was freaking out.

I'm going to be gutted that the baby won't have the same last name as me but We'll be getting married the following summer (fingers crossed) so it's not the end of the world.

Chocaholic88 · 12/02/2016 21:23

Just for the record... once you are married I'm sure it's now law to change the name on the birth certificate to your married name.

I got married 5 months after my daughter was born and we were issued a new birth certificate with my married name on it :)

So don't panic too much!

Runner05 · 13/02/2016 08:58

Morning ladies, how are you all today?

I am finally 12 weeks bye, bye first trimester, hello second trimester!!! Potato is the size of a toy soldier and hopefully growing well. My morning sickness is receding but being replaced by killer trapped wind and acid reflux.
I still haven't put on any weight but I look like a whale! And I've got my scan Tuesday Grin

Hope you're all doing well Smile

Newmrs22 · 13/02/2016 09:04

Morning! Runner I'm now 13+4 and Ovia still calls it first trimester! I think it switches at 14 weeks! It's so annoying! I'm actually tempted to delete because I'm overly grumpy about tiny things these days

Glad the sickness is receding! So exciting for the scan.

I need to go and buy some bigger clothes today Blush

Pinklily1 · 13/02/2016 09:24

Woo hoo Runner for the 12 week milestone Star I am 11+1 today, so not long to go till 12 weeks for me either.

Also good that the sickness is passing Grin

I had such bad trapped wind/ bloating yesterday that my tummy was sore and although it didn't look it, it felt like I imagine being 9 months pregnant feels - lots of pressure and like there's no room for anything else!

How is everyone else doing?

Pinklily1 · 13/02/2016 09:25

Ps New, if Ovia does that to me too I will delete it! I thought it was accepted that 12 weeks is the next trimester! I can't cope with Ovia messing with my head like that Grin

BunchOfBobs · 13/02/2016 09:48

Morning all, I'm 14 weeks today and Ovia has finally said 2nd trimester. Pregnancy + had me in 2nd from 13 weeks though.
I think it's everywhere that first trimester includes the 12th week so not until you're in your 13th/14th week are you in your second trimester. Each trimester is bizarrely split up (not 12 weeks each)
1st= 0-13 weeks
2nd=14-26 weeks
3rd= 27-40 weeks
Annoying isn't it?!

Trapped wind has been bothering me for weeks, it's awful!

shelbTa · 13/02/2016 09:53

Morning all.

So exciting to see everyone moving along - I'm 11 weeks today.

Well I now have backache and pelvic pain and am bloody irritable! Bodes well for valentines weekend!

X

hgleslie89 · 13/02/2016 10:28

Morning. I'm 16 weeks today and in bed with Norovirus, hooray! I know if shouldn't harm the baby but I'm worried it will and feel bizarrely guilty that I've got this bug.

Mileymoocow · 13/02/2016 10:37

Ah pink really? Small world! Are you far from there? I'm not too fussed about outing myself any more, if this was on the ttc thread I'd have been mortified haha! You'll definitely have to let me know what it's like, my cousin had her little boy there almost 2 weeks ago and she sang it's praises massively Smile

BunchOfBobs · 13/02/2016 10:39

Oh no Leslie. Keep your fluids up and rest as much as you can. I've had Nora and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Fingers crossed its over quickly.

Miley I've well and truly outted myself on here when I posted my first scan with my name on oops!
