thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

I feel super fat already indi (7 weeks tomorrow) had a little freak out last night, my poor DP was very lovely about it and assured me I wasn't.

I think i will be better when it is an actual bump and not just fat/bloating! I feel like people in work must think I'm eating lard every night! Although it must be mostly psychological as I'm still just about squeezing into my size 10 jeans

I'm sure it's a normal thing to think about and not vein at all!

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 09:57

Vain*

shelbTa · 12/02/2016 10:26

I hear you indi - I'm the same. The biggest shock so far has been my nips (tmi warning) - my boobs aren't much different but my nips are like flying saucers and bumpy as fuck - awful.

X

Planeteer · 12/02/2016 10:33

Indi adding my voice here. Don't think it's vain in the slightest to feel nervous or less than thrilled about your body changing. I am sort of fascinated and terrified in equal measure about what lies ahead and am absolutely sure that my body image demons will rear their bastard heads at some point. Keep talking about it when it's getting to you, not ridiculous at all!

IndiX · 12/02/2016 10:48

Thank you so much ladies, glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Just snapped at DH when he actually didn't really do anything wrong. Between hormones, bloating and these painful boobs I don't think I'm in for a good day! Definitely need an afternoon nap.
Sorry for my whinging, thanks again. Thank god for mumsnet! Have a lovely Friday xx

Chocaholic88 · 12/02/2016 11:31

Can I tentatively add my voice to this debate?

This is my third pregnancy. I'm a size 4 naturally and expected to look like a road map after my first pregnancy. I barely put on any weight (ate healthy, exercised minimally etc) and I wasn't left with saggy boobs or stretch marks.

I think it's totally ok to be worried about your appearance. We live in a society where we HAVE to be perfect or we SHOULD feel bad...

I had a moment the other night where I asked my partner what would happen if this pregnancy 'ruined' my body...(this is his first child) he replied no such thing could happen, plus how could I not get even more beautiful by giving him a child.

I'm pretty sure we over think it... it's hard not to but pregnancy doesn't always change our bodies and if it does, not much we can do!

goldenpineapple · 12/02/2016 11:44

Indi I feel you on the body changing. I had a breast reduction 10 years ago and am utterly terrified that they will get enormous again. Also, I know I'm not going to be one of those women with a cute little bump - I shall be a heffalump! But imagine what we get at the end of it Smile Hormones raging, and it feels like such a loss of any control over our bodies I think. Have a good nap!

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 11:44

Just walked into town and fell over (been really clumsy since being pregnant) cut all my hand and knee and had a major freak out (internally) about the baby despite being nowhere near my stomach. Such an idiot Blush

goldenpineapple · 12/02/2016 11:47

Oh, and we're calling ours the Baby Bean too Indi! How funny! Slightly odd though, as we sometimes call our cat this too [hmmm] On a related note, is it odd to think of using a baby name that one of your childhood pets had?!

goldenpineapple · 12/02/2016 11:49

oooh Lauren you poor thing. You're not an idiot at all, I'd be the same. Hope you're OK Flowers

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 12:00

Thanks pineapple, I'm fine! I had bleeding last weekend and a fall this weekend, so far I am not enjoying this pregnancy thing haha! Gonna press the rest of the day under a duvet feeling sorry for myself Wink I think he childhood pet name idea is cute as long as it's not my rabbits name Noddy (named when I was 4 and he was all the range haha)

goldenpineapple · 12/02/2016 12:04

Pahaha, no its not Noddy! Its Freya. The first cat i had growing up. I just love the name so much - I know its quite popular for people as well as cats these days too! I also know its waaaaaay too early to be thinking of names. Definitely haven't been looking at prams today

Duvet day sounds like a plan, glad you're OK. All a bit of a roller coaster!

Laurenrl · 12/02/2016 12:33

I like Freya! It's a lovely name

BunchOfBobs · 12/02/2016 12:59

Lauren ouch! Hope you're okay.
Golden I don't think it's too early to decide on names. We've chosen ours. We have two options for both boy and girl and will wait to see what they look like to decide between the two options. Smile I loves them.

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 13:22

Freya is a lovely name!

Lauren, hope you are ok post fall.

Indi, I worry about weight too. A few years ago I was a size 18/20 then lost a lot of weight and am now a size 10, so I panic at the idea of putting it on again, although I know this time it will be baby and not chocolate related flab Grin It is weird watching your body change though. I have to order my wedding dress about a month after baby due date, which will be interesting!

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 13:22

We also have a good idea of names. I think we had them in mind before we even conceived!!

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 13:29

Ladies, sorry for the barrage of posts but I have a smoked salmon tart for lunch and just realised smoked salmon is a no go for pregnant people Shock

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 13:30

*had a smoked salmon tart

Planeteer · 12/02/2016 13:36

So much confusing info out there re fish and seafood, it's already doing my head in! Pink, the nct website says that while lots of seafood is a no go, that smoked salmon and smoked mackerel are OK in moderation. I had smoked mackerel for lunch yday so am hoping they're right!

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 13:42

Few! I panicked because Ovia said it was a no go. It's the first fish I have had I pregnancy so I'm sure it will be fine!

Planeteer · 12/02/2016 13:48

I think Ovia is super cautious about that kind of stuff!

Chocaholic88 · 12/02/2016 13:58

Oh my lauren hope you're OK my lovely xxx

Danni89 · 12/02/2016 15:33

Hi girls just had my booking, midwife is lovely, had my bloods taken. She offered me the option of the birthing centre or the labour ward which are both in the same hospital but on different floors but apparently the birthing centre is calmer so I picked that one.

Scan in and few weeks and next midwife appointment a few weeks after that. Overall pretty happy with my first encounter. OH insisted on coming with me but it wasn't all bad having him there, he reminded me of things to ask.

Hope everyone's having a good day x

LisaTheGreek · 12/02/2016 16:00

Danni - that's really interesting. Glad it all went well.

What was the difference between the birth centre and the labour ward? Do you get different types/levels of care?

Nevlet · 12/02/2016 16:25

Ah i am so behind! Glad from what I can see that we are all doing well!
