thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Lovely pic new

My booking appointment is tomorrow at 9+5 lauren... At least it's close-ish to scan time

IndiX · 11/02/2016 19:35

Aaahh new that is lovely news and a great picture! Have you now announced to everyone?
How is everyone thinking of announcing to people? I keep seeing cute/funny ideas on Pinterest but want to think of our own

Newmrs22 · 11/02/2016 20:04

Thanks ladies. We'd told a fair few people already (family and close friends) after the 9 week scan. Haven't decided how to tell the rest. I might do it when I see people. I've texted a few people the scan pic as I got a bit excited

Morwenna1 · 11/02/2016 21:13

Lovely picture New! You must be pleased everything is looking good. Smile Can I ask, did you opt for the combined test with a blood sample as well? Because I have to wait up to two weeks to know if I'm low risk! I'm wondering if it's because of the blood test.

Lauren you think that's late, try 11 weeks!

Co5mo I didn't realise you were in actual agony..!Glad it's not persisted.

Pinklily1 · 11/02/2016 21:19

Mor, I've not had my 12 week scan yet but midwife took my blood at my booking in appointment and asked if I wanted it tested for a bunch of stuff, and in the same breath said about screening, so I have assumed they check that blood and then do the other part at the scan, rather than taking separate blood then as well. No idea if that's possible as I'm not really sure how the test works, but that's the impression I got.

I'll be like a pin cushion soon if the my so want more blood!

Chocaholic88 · 11/02/2016 21:21

pink if you opt for screening at the 12 week scan they will take blood on the day too. I have a blood form for it already but that might just be something they do here!

Newmrs22 · 11/02/2016 21:54

Mor my hospital is a big teaching hospital and they do combined screening on the day. They took blood, did scan, we waited 45mins then got results. Everyone else I know generally has had to wait a week or two.

Newmrs22 · 11/02/2016 21:55

I mean they do screening and results on the same day.

Newmrs22 · 11/02/2016 22:00

Also even before the blood results they were cautiously optimistic because the scan showed a small amount of neck fluid (lots can indicate a problem), no obvious heart defects (again can be a sign) and the presence of a nasal bone (absence can be another marker). So even if you have to wait, you can be slightly reassured if the scan seems normal. Although, obviously, some people will have a normal scan and still end up high risk due to bloods.

Co5mo · 11/02/2016 22:05

Me too Mor. Don't really want to got through that again.

So we're planning to tell our parents on Mothers day. I think this is the longest we could possibly get away with it being our secret. I'm busting to tell someone but DH is less enthusiastic. He thinks we'll be able to keep it from our friends until after 14 weeks!

Planeteer · 11/02/2016 22:38

Lovely scan new ! Am loving seeing these little beans - so exciting.

Co5mo keeping everything crossed that pain stays away for you, sounds horrid and scary! I think we're planning on telling parents on Mother's Day too, assuming I can hold out that long.

I'm just getting to grips with Ovia. So far the pg version is much less infuriating than the fertility one. Anyone else using her? What nicknames have you given your tiny ones?

Pinklily1 · 12/02/2016 07:27

Bloody hell, more bloods! Oh well, at least I'll be prepared now!

I haven't bonded with Ovia pregnancy, I'm using Pregnancy + instead which I find more informative.

We have a nickname for baby but I can't share it for fear of outing myself. It's a boys name randomly, even though we don't know if baby is a boy or girl.

Chocaholic88 · 12/02/2016 07:28

We have nicknamed ours 'Pumpkin Seed' 🙊🙈

shelbTa · 12/02/2016 07:42

Morning ladies,

Amazing news new, and what a relief about the bloods.

I'm only getting my first bloods done at my scan at 12 weeks, haven't event had my booking in appointment or even blood pressure taken yet - anyone else in the same boat?

X

Runner05 · 12/02/2016 07:54

New that's a lovely scan photo and so lucky to be put ahead.

Pink my pillow was an Amazon special.

Danni good luck with the midwife.

Indi We're going to tell family in person, send a picture of the scan to a couple of close friends then spill the beans on FB. I might post a couple of funny "hints" on FB and see if anyone guesses before I post the announcement. Smile

Planet our baby has ended up being called potato... This is because I think all newborns look like potatoes with eyes Confused

So my sickness seems to have ebbed off quite a bit but this thing with my throat is driving me crazy! I can only hope it goes away soon as its so uncomfortable.
I'm also getting really uncomfortable/painful bloating by the end of the day which is making sleeping really difficult.
There's always bloody something!

Only 5 days until my scan Grin

Chocaholic88 · 12/02/2016 07:55

Hi shelb I had bloods taken at my booking appointment, all three of my pregnancies have been in different counties but I've always had bloods done at the booking (my first pregnancy they did it at my house!)

I'm sure it's standard procedure where you are though :) same as most places don't use urine to confirm you're pregnant anymore - they take your word for it!

shelbTa · 12/02/2016 08:25

Thanks choc X

Planeteer · 12/02/2016 08:30

Pumpkin seed and potato are great. Potato is hilarious and cute runner!

Ours is currently rocking the moniker Pancake as we found out on Shrove Tuesday.

Danni89 · 12/02/2016 08:46

Thanks Runner! X

LisaTheGreek · 12/02/2016 08:49

Morning everyone!

Planeteer - pancake is so cute! Also, I read on one of my apps that initially the embryo is a flat disc, so it's also quite accurate!

Our is called Wiggles. Can't remember why - we've had that nickname for ages.

Starting to feel queasy in the mornings now. Haven't been sick but often feel like I could be, if that makes sense. Starting to see what you guys have been talking about Sad

BunchOfBobs · 12/02/2016 09:07

Pink mine is also an Amazon special.

Ours is named Pip.
I quite like Ovia pregnancy. I have pregnancy + too but only for the daily info and pictures. I prefer Ovia for logging data.

If it helps Pink after your 12 week appointment you won't need any more bloods taken until week 28. I had bloods taken at my booking in and at my scan less that 2 weeks later. I'm still waiting on results but was also told nt scan results seemed positive. I was told it could take 4 weeks and I have a midwife appointment booked 4 weeks after they were taken so no point chasing them really. I was also told I'd be contacted pretty quickly if there was anything to be concerned about- not that I'd do anything with high results.

IndiX · 12/02/2016 09:10

Morning ladies,
Planet ours is called Baby BeanSmile love all the nicknames you've mentioned.
I woke up at 5 needing a wee then needing a number 2 then I couldn't sleep for ages. This sounds very self absorbed and completely vain but I was worrying about putting loads of weight on, I'm healthy now and do eat well and workout a lot but I would've preferred to get pregnant as a lower weight. I'm just so worried about putting loads on and being a massive whale. I'm hoping I can lose a few pounds in this first trimester (eating healthy and working out no crazy diets) but I just know I'll put loads of water retention on. Sorry, I sound so vain but I just don't want to lose myself by becoming pregnant.

BunchOfBobs · 12/02/2016 09:24

Indi if you're eating healthy and exercising healthily (not overboard) then you should only put necessary weight on for baby. I don't think it's healthy to aim to lose weight whilst pregnant. We're apparently supposed to put 1-2 kg on a month in the first trimester (2-4 pounds) then that moves to weekly from the 2nd trimester. I'm eating like a horse and have still lost 2.5kg in the first trimester. Runner has also lost weight- most likely down to all the vomming she has done- whereas mine had no explanation except maybe lack of gym and I've lost muscle.
Eat healthy, stay active and embrace any extra weight as good for your baby. Any water retention is easily sweated out once you give birth. You can always reduce your slat intake as I read that helps.
Embrace the bulge, I can't wait for my baby bump. Smile

IndiX · 12/02/2016 09:43

Thanks bunch I know I sound utterly ridiculous and so vain, it's just I've always had a weird relationship with my weight and I knew this would be a big thing for me to get over. I know I just need to focus on keeping healthy, I'm doing everything right at the mo. I actually can't wait for a bump becuase atm I just feel in that awkward fat/bloated stage. Hormones are probably not helping my mood this morning either.

BunchOfBobs · 12/02/2016 09:56

Indi you sound completely normal. The day my boobs changed -literally overnight. I burst into tears and told my DH I wasn't sure anymore BlushOur bodies completely changing is a huge thing and a lot to get our heads round it. The best we can do is be healthy for ourselves and our beans. As you said, you're doing everything right. Keep at it and always come here with any doubts or worries.

I'm currently getting infuriated at my mother and DH who are adamant I have a bump. My DM chased me round a car park yesterday trying to rub said bump. This so called bump is bloat above my belly button. No matter how many times I tell them baby won't reach there until 20 weeks they're both "oooh bump". I'm going to lamp one of them!!
