I'm terrified of tearing! Like terrified! It's something I've had in my head for years! When I didn't even want a baby, although this one isn't planned in the slightest!
Does massaging down there actually work?? Anyone had any experience of it?

MargaretCabbage · 10/02/2016 21:51

Been following the thread but haven't had time to post.

Shares, I had a third degree tear too but haven't had any problems. I wasn't worried about birth but I have to see a consultant now too and it's made me wonder if I should be more worried and remember how scared I was when they were making me sign consent forms and talking about fecal incontinence before going to theatre. Confused

I don't think there's anything you can do to stop stretch marks really. I didn't get any until 38 weeks and they looked tiny on my huge bump but massive on my normal stomach! Not too bothered about them though.

We're going to start telling people after the scan, next week. Will just do it in person like we did last time. I quite liked surprising my FB friends with a picture of my newborn as I kept my pregnancy pretty quiet on social media.

MargaretCabbage · 10/02/2016 21:53

Perineal massage is supposed to work! I looked into it last time and thought it seemed a bit grim but it's better than the alternative I suppose. Will definitely have a go this time.

0hCrepe · 10/02/2016 21:57

Sharesinpampers I tore really badly with dd too. I'm worrying as well. Not sure to what degree but had a long line of people assessing me who were more senior. Eventually consultant dr decided to stitch me up there rather than go into theatre but it hurt for a long time afterwards. Worried it'll go back along the same line and further!

I've got my booking in tomorrow. Keep worrying for some reason things aren't quite right.

Hedgeh0g · 10/02/2016 22:02

Shares, it's because of the problems- I 'only' had an episiotomy, but that was due to an emergency forceps birth (supposed to be a crash c section but then baby was so far down that it was safer to drag him out than push him back up). I've been told it was the forceps that probably caused the problem. The stitches coming apart and getting infected may not have helped. Basically, I just had a catalogue of shit luck, before I freak anybody out. I was so against forceps going into the birth, but in the event, I can't fault my care or the decision the doctors made to use them, and in the same situation again I would consent again - it was just circumstances. And if I hadn't stuck my head in the sand and got help a while back for the problems I have now I probably would be fixed by now.

Hedgeh0g · 10/02/2016 22:17

Anyway...on a lighter topic (pulling myself together!), dc2 is due almost exactly 2 years to the day after dc1 was born. Last time we told dp's df when we took him out for his birthday. So this year, we are again taking him out for his birthday, and will again be announcing we are having a baby Smile

peardrop2 · 10/02/2016 22:49

Awww I really understand how you're feeling hedgehog! I had a 4th degree tear. It was a horrific experience but the care I received was so amazing afterwards that I feel really lucky to have had the support and to be seen by such kind people when I found it all so embarrassing. It was so hard to face though so I completely understand when you talk about burying your head in the sand! About a year a go I went to the hospital to see a post birth councillor. That helped me a lot. The midwife says I can see someone again if I like. I may do that. I think once we all start getting support on the matter as the weeks go on then we will feel better about the whole situation whatever direction our pregnancies take us. I'll be under a special surveillance team to see that I can have a natural birth again. In the meantime I'm trying to take one stage at a time otherwise I will terrify myself! Talking about it with your midwife or whoever sees you will most certainly help you I'm sure Smile

peardrop2 · 10/02/2016 22:50

Sorry I meant...talking obviously helped you Smile Its lovely when you meet someone kind to talk to.

Wardy1993 · 10/02/2016 22:53

Hello congratulations everyone on the thread! Hope all is going well. Don't want to intrude but I was doing a bit of lurking... I'm not pregnant just had my son 7 weeks ago but wanted to say how nice it is hearing how excited you all are. It reminds me of when I found out About ds and all the scans etc. It's making me broody already Blush hope dh doesn't see this haha ! Good luck to you all, and thank you for reminding me! Thanks

Shanster · 11/02/2016 01:01

Hello, can I join you all? I'm 10+3, little surprise 3rd baby. On announcements, I'm saying nothing on social media. My family and close friends know, but we've not told DH's side. My in laws are coming for a visit when I'll be about 19 weeks. I'm already showing, so we're planning on just surprising them with my bump when I come home from work. Quite looking forward to it actually!!

Annarose2014 · 11/02/2016 09:33

I'm visiting my MIL at 10 wks and she'll see I've gotten a bit tubby so I'll have to tell her.

I had an episiotomy under epidural (didn't feel a thing). It wasn't painful afterwards but remained uncomfortable for weeks. So about 5/6 weeks post birth I went back to Maternity and they reckoned it was granulated scar tissue. They removed the scar tissue with silver nitrate and my fanjo has been a thing of beauty ever since. Grin

But when you're in the midst of it all its very unnerving to say the least.

CatFaceCrayola · 11/02/2016 19:20

Not posted for ages, had a brief skim read but FB grpup os easier for me to follow.

I think stretch marks are just one of those things. Got loads last time regardless of oils and moisturising so not gonna bother this time.

Primark strappy tops and cami dress tops are great for bump covering, and also for nursing tops. I wear different coloured ones underneath nearly all of my outfits still.

And eckythump I got over excited and sent you a pm. But I'm in Penwortham too :)

balalalala · 11/02/2016 19:26

Has anyone got a long maternity pillow? I've been looking at them but there are so many out there ideally I'd like a recommendation!

Hi, Just joined the list, I'm due end of August with my 9th baby but they have a habit of being 8-10 days late so will reach sept, both my oldest daughter and youngest were due 28th Aug and both were born 5th sept so hoping this one isn't going to follow suit, 2 birthdays in one day is plenty, I've had my booking appointment and have been put into the home birth team's list so waiting for them to call with a 16 wk appointment, I had a private early scan at 7+3 mainly for assurance as I have had 3 previous mmc's but also for dating as my periods were well off with still breastfeeding the youngest, everything looked great, my 12 weeks scan is booked for Tuesday coming so the nerves are starting now again but I'm feeling positive that everything is good with baby, looking forward to getting to know you all Smile

Sharesinpampers · 11/02/2016 20:01

bala I bought a dreamgenii pillow last time but didn't really like it. Used it post birth to prop DD up on the floor so she could see me dry my hair!

Welcome illjust Smile

Sausage2229 · 11/02/2016 21:10

Wow! Baby number 9! I look forward to learning from your experiences! Grin

peardrop2 · 11/02/2016 21:12

Bala - I had a dream genie and loved it. I keep asking DH to get it down from the attic but he hasn't yet! I think they're very much like marmite. Have you tried looking on selling sites or eBay? I can imagine that it's a good item to buy second hand considering they don't get too much use and they do wash well!

Eeeek 1 more sleep Smile

peardrop2 · 11/02/2016 21:13

Welcome ill just! Wow how long is that list now!

Egid86 · 11/02/2016 22:39

Hi everyone. Can't figure out how to add myself to the list... Damn phone!!! I'm 10+2 and scan booked in for 1st March. So excited but so nervous. Had early scan at 6+3 due to light bleeding but been discharged from epu and fingers crossed for the next scan. Exciting reading all your stories!Flowers

eckythumpenallthat · 12/02/2016 08:38

Grrrrr I've got a day of chasing around to do.

I'm either 8+5 or 13 weeks today and no sign of a booking in appointment. Last time I got seen at 9 weeks. So much for that 'urgent' referral. Guess if I'm 13 weeks I've missed the window for a nuchal scan now too. No idea who the heck I'm supposed to ring either to make sure I'm in the system and/or see when my appointment is

I also appear to have had a possible reaction to my new thyroid meds (they had to swap them cos I'm pregnant) so now have to chase up the impossible to get hold of endo to see what on earth I'm supposed to do about it. Grrrr and just when I'd paid £8.20 for my prescription too

Fifi10 · 12/02/2016 09:04

Keep the receipts for your prescriptions as you can claim this back once you get your maternity exemption card- your pharmacist can give you a form for this.

Have you tried ringing either your community midwife office (your gp reception should be able to give you this number) or your hospitals maternity dept (should have webpage online). I had to do both of these to get in the system.

genome · 12/02/2016 09:11

ecky do you not get free prescriptions with a thyroid issue? My stepdad has an under active thyroid so gets thyroxine and all his other medication on free prescription (it's quite a list...im not sure why he doesn't rattle when he walks 😂).

OP posts:
Hedgeh0g · 12/02/2016 10:05

I get free prescriptions because of thyroid....?

eckythumpenallthat · 12/02/2016 13:04

If your overactive you have to pay which is a joke cos I've been so so I'll with it this year. I was off work for ten weeks over the summer. My sister is underactive and has been fairly well with it but now gets all her prescriptions for free. Stupid system. At least when this exemption card turns up I get a bit of a reprieve.

Typically after ringing round my appointment turned up in the post this morning for 29th Feb. So I'll be either 15+3 or 11+1

genome · 12/02/2016 17:37

That seems very unfair, both conditions can be very serious seems silly to treat them differently!
I gave in and went to get lactulose over the counter this afternoon, after 5 days of no poo! Sorry tmi! I had a prescription for dd1 and used it a couple of times with dd2, but it went out of date so I had to chuck it. I couldn't wait another 5 weeks till my next midwife appointment and it was only £7 for a big bottle anyway!
