Hmmm did you all use the oil and cream post birth? More then likely why you got post birth stretch marks don't you think?!

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 08:19

Nope. I was in hospital for a week and didn't bring it with me. And tbh with everything else going and very sore from a crash section it was the last thing on my mind. They've faded quick though and unless someone's having a right good gawp at nose length from my gut you can't even see them Grin

peardrop2 · 10/02/2016 08:24

Ecky - that makes sense. I didn't stop using it until I lost the first bit of pregnancy weight so about 6 months post birth. I don't think people realise that you can't stop using it but then I'm sure it's not always possible if you're in hospital with dressings etc!

I agree though, not all expensive brands are necessary as cheaper versions can also work just as good with the right ingredients.

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 08:31

I'm very much an Each to their own person. I'm not bothering this time. Unless I'm on holiday I don't have my tummy out anyway so it's not as if anyone sees them. Plus I think I only got them from the sheer amount of weight loss. I went from a pregnant 14/16 to a size 8/10 in less than 2 weeks :-0 I also did a mumsnet trial for some silicon cream that was 'supposed' to fade scars. Mine was red and angry for so long. It didn't work. Nothing happens overnight and I'm dubious of any magical scar fading claims now. This time I know just to give it a few years and out up with it. And again apart from DH no one sees it

icklekid · 10/02/2016 09:39

pear please don't take this the wrong way but maybe just drop the stretch marks thing I'm not sure it's helpful...

Sorry am possibly being a bit sensitive at the moment so feel free to ignore me!

ticken · 10/02/2016 09:45

I'm properly lazy when it comes to skincare and got no stretch marks whatsoever last time, despite using no cream or moisturiser. So it's at least partly luck as otherwise I definitely deserved some!
Can anyone recommend any good maternity vest tops, preferably in pretty colours? My normal ones are starting to ride up already.

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 10:03

Ticken let me know if you find any. I'm good for now but was having a look out of curiosity and they are all so BORING. I don't want to dress in navy and white stripes likewise be emblazoned with slogans. Zzzzzz I'm hoping closer to summer some nice more colourful ones will come out. So annoyed I got rid of all mine had a really nice purple and large white star print one from new look last time.

HP07 · 10/02/2016 10:30

Hi everyone, I'm about 8 weeks pregnant with a rough due date of sept 21st. Very excited but also very nervous. I had an early scan at about 6.5 weeks because I was already under the care of a fertility consultant at the hospital and I'd also had some spotting. Baby looked fine and was measuring 5.6mm and had a heart beat so all very positive. No signs of any bleeding in the uterus so the Nurse said it was likely to be cervical. Of course I'm still worrying as I'm having brown spotting daily but I have had an cervical ectropian before so it make sense that my cervix is probably quite sensitive. Feeling nauseous a lot, very sore boobs and quite fatigued. Can't wait for the next ultrasound.

peardrop2 · 10/02/2016 11:27

Sorry, didn't realise I wasn't allowed to voice my opinion! It's OK for everyone to go on and on with specific details about their sickness even though I've expressed how reading that makes me feel like being sick but it's not OK for me to say that I think using creams and Oils on your belly is a good thing! Seriously? Seems very one sided to me!

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 12:21

peardrop I didn't get that either. Groups like this are great cos we've got such a mix of ladies from various parts of the country with all manor of different experiences in various stuff so why not share stories? You only have to contribute what your happy with after all.

icklekid · 10/02/2016 13:07

Sorry as I say probably just sensitive. Carry on really wasn't trying to cause offense just aware it is sensitive for some and your experience isn't everyone's!

nailsathome · 10/02/2016 13:22

Unused bio oil and it absolutely worked for me. I have stretch marks from teenage growth spurts and so I know that my skin is prone to them. I started using bio oil with dc2 after stretch marks started appearing and it made them disappear as well as preventing any more. It also significantly faded the ones I already have.

I was very dubious about it all but it worked for me

Annarose2014 · 10/02/2016 14:07

Re: vest tops. I have to say regular Primark ones are brilliant as they're very very long.

The secret is to get them in a size 18/20 and honestly you can wear them almost to due date!

They also do these silky blouses with a few buttons at the cleavage and three quarter length sleeves which they seem to have in every year. They're v v wide around the waist and make excellent tops up to about 6/7 months as long as you size up.

My top tips for tightarses like me!Wink

Annarose2014 · 10/02/2016 14:09

Oh and don't bother with maternity leggings. Regular ones a size up fit Suprisingly well all the way through. And you get much more selection!

Lilliana · 10/02/2016 14:14

Thanks for the primark tip anna I have a few bits from last time but dont have much spare cash to buy a new wardrobe so will have to get by on a few cheap bits. At least it won't be that cold while we're huge (hopefully!)

Annarose2014 · 10/02/2016 14:19

Also I wore a mahoooosive Primark jumper the whole way through last time. Don't even know what size it was tbh. It was brilliant!

Maternity clothes, apart from being pricey, are so bland. Navy and white as someone said. Even ASOS is a bit shit at the moment. At least Primark have fun colourful sweatshirts and stuff. You just have to cut off the size label, lol!

nailsathome · 10/02/2016 16:59

I love my mat leggings because I can't stand anything under or on my bump but I agree ranges are limited. New look do some good bits and often have sales. Also look on your local buy and sell groups on fb

genome · 10/02/2016 17:51

I moisturised religiously with dd1 and got stretch marks. I didn't with dd2 (too busy with dd1!) and got the same amount on top of the ones I already had! I had a massive bump due to being short and I'm prone to them, so there wasn't much hope! They faded in colour very quickly, but I can still feel them. The cream does help with the itching though!
One week till scan...I'm so impatient this time. I'm sure time went quicker with dd1&2!

I cracked out my maternity leggings as my normal ones were bugging me. They are so comfy, I don't know why I don't wear them all the time. I wore primary vests all the way through both pregnancies- they are a little short by the end, but do the job as layers under things.

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 17:53

Fashion/clothing ain't my strong point. 75% of my wardrobe is gym attire ATM! Just recently invested in vest tops and checked shirts from h&m they are all quite loose so will tide me over when the time comes. I bobbed into mamas and papas the other day and it looks like they've stopped doing maternity clothes too? I got their jeans last time they were sooooooocomfy

SockQueen · 10/02/2016 18:59

I have a bit of leeway with some of my clothes as I've lost a stone and a half while TTC (plus the last few weeks with morning sickness) so there's a bit of room in plenty of my outfits! I wear scrubs at work, so at least I don't have to find smart maternity clothes, just go up a size or two.

Hedgeh0g · 10/02/2016 19:49

Sorry, been absent from this thread for a little while, had to go looking for the new thread! Is anyone else struggling loads more in pregnancy number 2? I feel a lot more sick this time and way more tired. Completely lost the plot last night, was sick, tired, and had my first appointment with the women's physio that I should have seen a while back due to continence problems after dc1, but I've been burying my head in the sand....She was lovely, said it could all be fixed with exercises, and confirmed my view that I should have a c section this time. C section what I wanted, and in a way was a relief to have it confirmed by an 'expert', but hearing it from someone else left me feeling....I dunno....damaged I guess Sad Need to pull myself together and jut focus on doing the exercises and making it better.

Sausage2229 · 10/02/2016 20:23

Hello, I bought some nice vests from Matalan which I'm not usually a fan of and also some bits from the next sale. 12 week scan date came through. How long do the Down syndrome tests take to come back? Not telling our parents (3 sets) and my brother and sister until Easter! Feels like an age! The only people that know so far are 2 of my colleagues and my DP's boss. Can't wait to tell them. I would like to do it in a special way. How is everything else revealing their pregnancies? It's our first and also the first grandchild for all sets of parents!

eckythumpenallthat · 10/02/2016 20:55

Awwww how exciting for them all sausage not long till Easter though :) there's loads of pregnancy announcement ideas on Pinterest you could have a look at for inspiration .

We've not decided how or when to tell people yet. Me and DH are still trying to get our heads round it. I'm not telling work till I have to and when we do eventually tell the parents we'll be asking them to keep it to themselves. We're going low key this time!

SockQueen · 10/02/2016 21:17

I'm rubbish at creative announcements etc (I asked my bridesmaids by text/over the phone, not even realising that fancy "will you be my bridesmaid?" cards and packages were a thing) so I just told my parents over lunch while I was visiting 2 weeks ago. It was early (8 weeks) but I figured I'd want them to know if anything went wrong, and I couldn't work out how to hide it for the whole weekend. I have told a couple of people by e-mail on a need-to-know basis, including my supervisor at work, because I need an early risk assessment.

What I definitely won't be doing is posting a scan picture, or indeed much info at all, on facebook, because I don't know which of my friends might be struggling, and each one of those that popped up used to feel like a kick in the face. Once we've had the first "proper" scan we'll just start telling people as and when needed.

Sharesinpampers · 10/02/2016 21:23

Exciting times sausage !
Loads of great ideas out there. We didn't do anything over the top. We gave our parents bottles of bubbly and when they asked why we said to congratulate them on becoming grandparents Smile

Hedgehog glad you got the answer you wanted but I understand why you're feeling a bit low. You don't need to share more if you don't want to but is the c-section because of the continence problems or the injury which causes them? I had a 3rd degree tear and quite afraid of another vaginal birth. Not seeing a consultant to discuss until I'm 30+ weeks which feels like quite a long time to worry.
