Pretty sure I read somewhere that you could only hear the heartbeat through a vaginal thingymajig this early, could be very wrong though so don't hold me to that.

I'll leave it then. Plenty of time to play with her Doppler in future all being well!

Btw I'm sure nobody remembers but up thread I talked about a family member who I was dreading telling as she'd undergone tons of failed IVF and a few rounds of failed donor eggs.

Just found out she's 12 weeks!!!! Absolutely ecstatic!

That's great news Anna!
Due to no-one from either the main hospital or the smaller one answering my calls to book my 12 week scan I've given in and booked a private scan for Thursday to take the pressure off the NHS one being on time! According to the midwife I'll be 10+1 on Thursday... I so hope there's actually a baby there!

Anna that is such amazing news. I really hope this happens with my friend in a similar situation. I'm dreading telling her too. Have you told her your news yet?

It's amazing how differently different areas handle pregnancy - I thought as it's the NHS it would be standard across the country.

Hi all, had my booking in this afternoon and now have my scan date for 29/2. Thankfully had a better night's sleep last night but knackered again now!

Dilemma - DD has voluntarily gone down for a nap! She never naps now but she had a cold so do I go to bed myself or do something useful like clean the house? Both are much needed!!

Get thee to bed! You can do jobs quicker when you've got energy!

OhCrepe - yes you will very likely find a heartbeat. I've got the same make Doppler the midwifes use and I think that is why I was able to pick up a strong heartbeat at 7+. Oh and my baby's heartbeat isn't that low. It's just above the pubic hair line on the right. Your friend will either be keen or not keen...she might even offer I found the heartbeat at 8+6 with dS but I think that is because I didn't order the Doppler until 8 weeks!

No I wasn't going to tell anyone till 12 weeks. Glad now as I want her to have a few weeks basking in the attention before I drop my news. 7 weeks today so she has 5 weeks of exclusivity!

nails placenta sounds like a ghostly forest. HB sounds like a train.

Typically I've now managed to book my NHS scan for 12+5. I'm not feeling overly confident with the hospital so far... What's the latest you can change?

There is only one hospital where I live! I find it strange you can choose! Would be nice to have a choice if I didn't like it for any reason. My spots are horrific and so painful. So glad I've got a week off!

balalala I had the same issues with getting a scan date and had a private one at 9 weeks, was well worth the money to know I wasn't imagining it all! That said I couldnt afford the Harmony/ private NT tests so am still trying to get my NHS one. Im nearly 11 weeks and still nothing, I rang the hospital itself last week and am still 'not on the system yet' so will be ringing again this week. My booking was at 8 weeks so no idea how the referral has got lost.

lilliana it seems all counties are doing it differently, I don't get my maternity notes etc that were filled in at booking back until the scan appt which is bizarre as I have no info or contact numbers until then.

Nail - yeah it's exactly like that...the sound of a train. It sounds like a heartbeat and my Doppler tells me how fast it is.

sausage I have a choice of 3 hospitals and a stand alone mw led birthing unit but had to pick at random at my booking appt having visited none of them. In some ways having no choice would be easier as I would know I'd picked the best option!

Meant to be going away for half term in 2 weeks time but not sure if going to go as feel so unwell. Been signed off work due to hyperemesis.

I've had a lovely snooze am now cuddled up on the sofa with DD watching my little pony. If only every day was like this!

We only have one hospital too - no choice or birth units etc. I do find it weird that people have options! I have my notes already - booking in is not until next week but not sure if I get them back until the scan or not. Does seem stupid to take them away. What if you need them?

Sausage - I'm about 30 mins away from both so none particularly close!

I did tell them I wanted a home birth, and they said 'no, you have to pick a hospital' so I went for the one I knew my DM had worked in about 10 years ago... not exactly an informed choice

somewhere we are hoping to go italy, June half term, for a week. My friend has a b&b there and kids too, so it's lovely! I hope I can travel. I had lletz for cin3 (cervix) in October so I don't know how 'affected' (non medical person!) my cervix is yet. Fingers crossed

Sorry to hear you can't fit a break in... It's always nuts with school/nursery times isn't it?
