How is everyone doing today? After a few weeks reprieve my nausea is suddenly back with a vengeance Sad

FourForYouGlenCoco · 11/01/2016 12:46

All good here, just spent 10 mins with the Doppler listening to baby's heartbeat and hearing it move around in there 😍 Am 12 weeks on Friday and finally starting to feel a bit confident! Will relax a lot after the scan as well and start to really enjoy it I think.
Also doing a bit of comparing (excuse half-nakedness/strange cover-ups, and also my messy room) - left picture 6.5 weeks, right picture just now at 11+3. Same exact weight, if anything a bit less now. It's definitely growing!

Jw35 · 11/01/2016 13:20

GlenCo I've been trying with Doppler but can't hear anything. When I did I realised it was my own heartbeat! Babies should be fast like a galloping sound? I'm 10+5 today. Where did you find it? It should be really low?

Feeling sick as usual.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 11/01/2016 13:42

Yeah it is low, to be honest though I started out looking TOO low and wound up listening to my own pelvic bone and/or bladder, which wasn't very exciting. Hard to explain but if I drew an imaginary straight line between my hips, I'd usually start looking in the very middle - directly down from belly button and just up from pubes, about where my pants start. Some days I've gotten lucky and found it quickly, some days I've found it but it's taken AGES, some days I've not found it and have given up. Today I got really lucky, baby is tucked behind a pelvic artery so all I could hear was my own heartbeat most of the time. Rested the Doppler for a second to adjust the volume and it just happened that baby was right there. I still have to dig in quite hard and tbh even when I find it it's not for very long - will get it for maybe 10 seconds then baby wiggles off again (which you can hear on Doppler, sounds like a 'bloop' noise) and I have to chase it. There is definitely a massive element of luck in hearing it, I know what side baby is generally on as I felt it implant so I know vaguely where I'm looking but it took a long LONG time the first few times. There's lots of static too so sometimes I'm not sure if I'm hearing the baby or not!
And yes baby sounds like a little galloping horse or a train, sometimes as well I think I've gotten the baby and it's actually the blood flow to the placenta - that's more of a 'whoosh whoosh' whereas the actual heartbeat is a sharper, 'cloppier' sound. It's definitely tricky! I only try every few days or so cos I know any more will wind me up when I can't find it!

SpecialStains · 11/01/2016 14:04

Hey, just want to say Hi! I'm due near the end of August. Been having awful morning sickness (all day) so far, but have a private early scan booked for this coming weekend. Looking forward to meeting my little parasite!

peamad · 11/01/2016 14:05

Wow thats amazing glenco! I've been debating getting a doppler myself but not sure whether I want the anxiety if I can't manage to find the heartbeat.

Flybynight1 · 11/01/2016 14:19

I ordered a £20 Doppler from eBay at the weekend. Hoping that I can get it to work!

Happy 10 weeks alfie and mrs?

Thanks GlenCo I'll have another go tonight! It's much clearer from about 15/16 weeks I think

hgleslie89 · 11/01/2016 14:56

Hi Special!

I told work today (11 weeks exactly). Went better than I expected (I work for a small company, so thought there might be some stress/disappointment about sorting maternity cover) - apparently some of them had already guessed as I hadn't seemed myself before Christmas!

SharyBobbins · 11/01/2016 17:37

I told work on Friday, two male bosses. You'd think I'd just told them they were going to be Grandparents they were that excited! Not quite the reaction I was expecting but lovely! Some awkward hugging though!!
Feeling a bit nervous about this week. Booking in appointment with the midwife on Friday & my reassurance scan on Saturday. I should be 9 weeks on Thursday Blush

MrsZumbaDancer · 11/01/2016 20:03

Parent of the year award goes to me.. Felt so sick that we've pretty much watched Bob the builder on the iPad all day. Feel worse now than ever (8+5), my usual snacks not working. I'm dreading going to work tomorrow and I have to teach a fitness class.

Had my booking appointment last week, nothing much changed from my first pregnancy. She signed off my maternity exemption cert, and told me I can get free pregnancy vitamins. I had been taking folic acid+vit d as I couldn't hack the huge pregnacare ones last time. The new ones are tiny thankfully!

We discussed my last pregnancy experience, sent off for my scan date and my gtt (my dad has diabetes so was screened last time too)

quitecrunchy · 11/01/2016 22:40

Hi Special!

Nice to hear about the positive responses from work hg and shary!

Belager · 12/01/2016 06:09

Hi everyone,

Glad everyone's getting positive responses. I'm afraid I need a little rant, as obviously I can't rant to anyone in RL yet.

I saw my GP on the 4th and when asked which hospital I wanted there was no doubt. I got my booking and scan app through yesterday. Both at a hospital I don't know. And to make it worse my dating scan isn't until 29/2 when I'll be 16 weeks!

My GP has made mistakes like this with referrals before so I don't want to go back to her, can I change all this through the MW?

I'm so upset and angry about all this.

LeoLemur · 12/01/2016 06:28

Wow Belager that's crazy! She sounds pretty incompetent to me. Have you had or got your booking appointment yet? If so I'd imagine you'd have no problem changing your scan and the hospital via your midwife. You're certainly entitled to change hospitals at any point in your care. It's on the NHS website. Where in the country are you? Can you change your doctor? Sounds like that's the priority here, especially if you haven't had your booking appointment. Then you can start from scratch.

LeoLemur · 12/01/2016 06:38

PS I think you should raise this with your doctor as it's her mistake but you don't have to see her, why not write a short letter of complaint and ask her to sort it out? At least you've given her a chance to rectify and if she doesn't you have a good reason to change Dr and/or get someone else to sort it out

Belager · 12/01/2016 06:42

Hi Leo, my booking appointment is on 29/1. I don't know whether that's late or not, I'm 8+6 today.

I'm going to put a request for a GP change today, I'm in London and go to a surgery with 7 GPs.

So should I have the booking app and then change, or try to change everything today?

Sorry this is my first, if it were for here I'd know NOTHING! Smile

LeoLemur · 12/01/2016 07:45

It's also my first- I'm just a couple of days behind you - there are people way more knowledgeable than me on here 😊
But I'd say rather than wait for the booking appt ask your dr to rectify it first then change or try getting an appointment with someone else in the same surgery and ask them to sort it for you before changing surgeries. My surgery is full of locums so I've got in the habit of requesting the one permanent Dr when I call for appts so you could just do that in future if you don't want to change surgeries. Or you could call the surgery you want to move to and see what they suggest. Keep us updated!

Pipo1704 · 12/01/2016 08:28

I called in sick yesterday I couldn't face work. In today but still feel like shit. I feel I've got period pains. I'm sure I'm going to miscarry soon :( I just wish I knew what was going on in my body

prettyflowers111 · 12/01/2016 08:30

Well the midwife still hasn't called back since Saturday morning. It's most annoying that she called me while I was at work Friday and left me a message to call her back in the first place about my booking appointment, and I also mentioned my concerns about spotting on the message too. I think I'll just have to ring again today. 7+3 today and I know they like to do the booking appointment at around 8 weeks in my area.... perhaps it then gives them plenty of time to make sure you get the 12 week scan on time? Who knows. But so far my experience of the community midwife team hasn't exactly got me thinking they're up to much. :(

TattieHowkerz · 12/01/2016 08:50

Take care Pipo, just do whatever you need to to get to the next scan.
I had lots of cramping from 5 to 8 weeks on my first pregnancy (which went fine) and on this one (so far, so good). So I don't know that you can read much into it. Thinking of you this week, and hoping for a good outcome at the next scan.

M2B816 · 12/01/2016 09:38

I'm 9 weeks today. Apart from less sore boobs, bloated and constipation, my symptoms of nausea has disappeared. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

FourForYouGlenCoco · 12/01/2016 09:45

Hi Special!

MrsZ glad booking appt was straightforward. I'll have that parent of the year award off you when you're ready, DD has spent a ridiculous amount of time on the iPad over the last few weeks. She watches absolute bollocks too, those 'kinder egg surprise' videos and stuff. Utter shite. Oh well, at least they do stuff with her at preschool Blush

Belager that's totally ridiculous! Your GP sounds a bit pants tbh. And 29/1 is definitely a bit late for booking appt, especially for your first baby. I'd ring GP today and kick up a fuss and ask them either to get it sorted or to explain themselves!

pretty definitely ring again, the midwife has probably written it down somewhere ("ring pretty back!") and then forgotten about it. You might have to do a bit of chasing.

Pipo I'm sorry you're going through all this worry and stress. Like tattie says, cramping is totally normal. I've had all sorts of cramping and pains so far. It doesn't mean the worst but it's very scary. I honestly don't think you will definitely miscarry, at this point it genuinely could go either way. There are lots and lots of similar success stories out there. The waiting is just so hard. When's your next scan again? Is it this Thursday? Will be thinking of you Flowers

MamaB80 · 12/01/2016 09:59

I really feel for you pipo - once you get it into your head that something might not be right it's hard to change that. Any chance you can get an early scan whether privately or on NHS? I had a private one at 8 weeks which helped no end. 2 weeks on I still have another 3 weeks until my 12 week scan. I have no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever but am holding onto seeing that little heartbeat a couple of weeks ago.

MamaB80 · 12/01/2016 10:02

M2B I'm in a similar situation. All symptoms have disappeared. Actually thinking of it I do still have sore nipples so hoping that's a good sign. No nausea, no bloating, no constipation. But trying to think of myself as being one of the lucky ones. The next three weeks until scan can't go by quickly enough!

Pipo1704 · 12/01/2016 10:07

The next early scan is on Saturday. I think it's because I feel the other symptoms have disappeared too. Just sore boobs & dull (usual sort of periods) cramping. The waiting is the hardest!
