Hi to the new people! Welcome!

Am I the only one with the munchies?

I'm so so hungry all the time, it's so unlike me! I was at work today and had a big lunch, plus some snacks and a bowl of soup at 5.30 as I go to Spanish class on Tuesday nights. I completely misjudged how much more food I needed - I came out of the class at 8.30 and I was so hungry I nearly passed out - this has never happened to me! And I felt sick as well, but I could tell that I was hungry. Then I had to drive home - 15 minutes on icy roads, felt like hours. I literally threw the first thing I could find into the microwave and inhaled it within 3 minutes of walking through the door.

I'm going to have to learn from this!

I hope everyone is keeping well.

OwlinaTree · 19/01/2016 22:30

I can't stop eating, although after 4 days of struggling to eat because of being ill it's not surprising! The 'need to eat now' hunger of pregnancy is like nothing else for me!

Mrs1986 · 20/01/2016 06:46

I am completely with you. It sneaks up on you all of a sudden and then you just have to eat immediately!!

In my bag at all times I've got an apple, satsuma, go ahead bar, and packet of quavers!
I've got some ginger biscuits at my desk in case I feel sick too.

I've been waking up a lot in the night for the loo and struggle to get back to sleep straight away and if it takes to long I start getting really hungry but I really try to ignore that! I can't be eating in the middle of the night, I'll be enormous!!

LadyBundleBrent · 20/01/2016 08:47

Ahhhhhhhhh I am about 9 + 3 and I cannot stop eating...it's the only thing that stops the nausea. Have put on half a stone (trying to exercise after work is hard as I'm feeling so sick then). I feel your pain...simple carbs are my friend!! Hoping it'll all even itself out in the 2nd trimester.

Showgirl109 · 20/01/2016 09:02

I cannot stop eating! Feel like such a carb slut! Although this week I've tried really hard to take healthy snacks to work, one of my cravings has been carrot sticks which is much better than my Milky Way one! I think it's a hormonal thing combined with the sickeness!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 20/01/2016 09:17

Another one here eating a frankly unbelievable amount! I used to be a runner but stopped for a bit after my last MMC and never managed to start again. Considering taking it up again (at a 'slow plod' pace of course) as otherwise I never really do anything and I'd like to stay active if poss. Anyone still exercising as normal?
Mrs hope your nuchal results are lovely and low so you don't have to worry! I'm sure they must have ways of adjusting the blood results though surely?!
Dileas how are you getting on today? Hope the pain has gone. I've read that it's quite common to have a bit of spotting/bleeding at 4,8 and 12 weeks as these are the times AF would be due and your body can have a bit of a breakthrough bleed. Fingers crossed all is ok, thinking of you today Flowers
Oh after a lot of dithering re: screening, we are having it but have already told the mw we won't be acting on the results no matter what they are. I think I would terminate for problems incompatible with life as wouldn't want to put a baby through that, but not for anything less (although obviously it's impossible to really say until you're in that situation, which touch wood none of us will be!).
Quite a few of us have littlies - I have a 3yo but feel like I'm cheating as she has her 15 hours at preschool so I have a lot of chill time right now. I'm in awe of anyone tackling this pregnancy lark with tiny ones and/or more than 1 other child. Am tired just thinking about it!

RoRosie · 20/01/2016 11:06

Not having to eat all the time here but when the hunger comes on it comes on so suddenly. Feel fine one minute then ravenous, weak, dizzy and nauseous the next. Mrs I'm having that as well where I wake up during the night to pee and start to feel really hungry and a bit nauseous. Haven't given into the hunger yet. My sleep has been so disturbed though. Wouldn't be the best sleeper at the best of time.

Coco I've been running. Roughly 5k twice a week. Definitely a slower pace. Haven't run for last 2 weeks because I was on strict rest with the spotting. Got go ahead from consultant to get back to it today but she said to take it easy. They say you shouldn't run unless you were doing it regularly before the pregnancy because there's a risk of "stealing" blood supply from the uterus and fetus if your body isn't used to it.

bearhuggy · 20/01/2016 11:09

Morning everyone and welcome to all the newbies I missed Star

I am constantly eating at the moment, fresh coconut chunks seem to be my thing today, oh and anything citrus...a lemon even seems appealing which is just bizarre!

So last night I had great success with the Angelsounds Doppler I bought. Got home and followed all the tricks and tips and managed to find the little bean and got a good listen to the heart beating away on three occasions. Was amazing and husband couldn't believe it only cost £25!! For those trying, it was tucked down very low, lower than you would think. I started with it placed right in the middle close to pubic bone then applied quite a bit of pressure and angled the doppler downwards and just waited, making very slight movements left and right until I found it.

Question for you all, I had my first blood tests taken at my booking in appointment on the 8th Jan and I haven't had any results back. Is this normal? Do they only really contact you if there is something to report? I have my scan this Friday but guessing it won't be with the midwife (not sure?!), so will they update me then?? Should I be calling to chase do you think?

bearhuggy · 20/01/2016 11:23

coco I have been walking daily, swimming twice a week (gentle pace) and only just started back at yoga as was advised against it early on even though I used to practice 2/3 times a week. Nice to get back to it, albeit from a different perspective and spending less time on my head!!

peamad · 20/01/2016 11:25

I'm so jealous bear, wish I had your good luck! Definitely going to have another go with the doppler when I get home though, its reassuring to know that the angelsounds isnt totally useless, and will try some of the tricks you suggested.

When my midwife took the bloods at my booking appointment she said she would give me all the results at my next appointment, which is at 16 weeks. But because I was a bit concerned about the thyroid test (I already have an underactive thyroid) I rang the doctors surgery and they gave me the results for that test only. If there is something specific you are worried about you could give that a try, otherwise I don't think its a problem to wait until your midwife follows up.

peamad · 20/01/2016 11:32

Coco I walk the dog every day for at least 30 minutes, and do a yoga class twice a week. Also hoping to start swimming once a week with DH (he's training for a triathlon).

Rorosie how have you found the running? I used to be a regular runner but have irrationally been too scared to do so whilst pregnant. Even though it is stupid I can't shake the feeling that I might be shaking the little bean too much! Also now that my fitness levels have dropped I am worried that I would find it too exhausting, but might go out on a gentle test plod and see how I feel...

bearhuggy · 20/01/2016 12:00

pea don't worry, you will find it! you just need to give it another go tonight. It really was way lower than I first thought and don't be frightened to push in quite firmly down there, I had a circular in-print on my tummy once I had finished so gives you an idea how much you need to dig around to find it. I used some Johnson's baby oil as it is a bit more slippy and helps to move the doppler around so perhaps try that if the gel is a bit thick!

Thanks for the advice on the bloods, I am not worried about anything in particular so perhaps I will just wait until my next appointment. Pretty sure they would have called / written should anything be drastically wrong.

Mrs1986 · 20/01/2016 12:27

Dileas how did you get on with the EPU? Did you get an appointment?

Glencoco I won't be sure until I'm at the hospital tomorrow, but from what I've read the answer is no.
Because my 'vanished' baby is still in the sac (albeit very small) this will impact the blood results.
As with normal miscarriages, it's likely that this baby stopped developing due to chromosomal abnormalities.
So, when they took my bloods, the results could show me as very high risk, even though there may be no problem at all with either of the remaining twins. For this reason, I understand that they don't use the bloods, and instead the rely on the NT measurement + my age.

I do look forward to finding out more tomorrow though!! It's quite hard finding information online!

Clarab0w · 20/01/2016 12:31

oh thank god! i had THREE breakfasts yesterday, just could not stop eating. and only carbs will do it. this baby is going to be part crumpet at this rate.

chandelierswinging · 20/01/2016 12:44

Very jealous of all you hungry peeps...

I've spent the last 24 hours puking (not able to keep water down) and feeling like I might die! In my previous pregnancies, food has helped, but this time, I'm struggling big time. Been put on anti-emetics this morning and signed off work for a bit although I'm hoping not to have to take the entire time Sad I'm struggling to stay hydrated, so have been warned of the possibility of hospital admission too Shock! Wishing the next 30 ish weeks away!!!

GL for tomorrow Mrs Will be thinking of you Flowers

Dileas29 · 20/01/2016 13:06

swinging that sounds so tough! I hope it doesn't last too long!!
coco enjoy child free breaks while your DD in at childcare it sounds bliss! EPU have no space for today. I asked even last minute cancellation but she said no so I'm booked in for tomorrow 10:40 so will see what that brings. My mum was willing to travel 4 hours to be with me which was so kind but DH can start work later. The cramping has stopped now but so strong through the night it woke me so probably best I go in mrs all the best for tomorrow, I hope you get the answers you are looking for

FourForYouGlenCoco · 20/01/2016 13:10

Oh chandelier not good at all! You poor thing. Hopefully the meds help, how far along are you now? Fingers crossed for a miraculous 2nd trimester recovery.
Mrs ah I see, that sounds logical. Will you have extra scans throughout seeing as you're having twins? I'd be very surprised if they didn't pick up any major issues even without the bloods.
I'm amazed at how active everyone's being! Think I might pick something up again, swimming sounds nice even in this chilly weather!

Had a call from the hospital, they have a cancellation so could I come in for the scan at 9.30 tomorrow?! Bit short notice but I'm not complaining! Unfortunately as DH works away it means he has to drive up tonight, drive back tomorrow, then drive back here Friday night Confused it's 3 hours one way, the poor bloke will be spending most of the next few days driving. Nothing for it though, the next available scan date was 01/02 and I'll be 14+2 then so just over the mark for the NT screening. Am looking forward to hopefully seeing a proper baby tomorrow! Will be 12+6 so we should get a good view.

hgleslie89 · 20/01/2016 13:17

Had my dating scan today! Measuring 12+4, so my due date's 30th July. Correct number of limbs and a heart beat, can't really ask for more Grin

August 2016-with Berries turning into Beans and a whole lotta fun ahead!
OwlinaTree · 20/01/2016 13:22

bearhuggy · 20/01/2016 13:47

ahhh leslie what a fab scan pic! Has made me excited about mine on Friday, they are really starting to look like babies now aren't they!!

coco your poor hubby! I am sure he will be happy to attend, such important times. So great they were able to fit you in, will be thinking about you.

great news owl, time will fly by.

chandelier so sorry you are sick, it sucks. take all the time you need to get better and I hope you are on the up soon. Lily how are you feeling today, hope better!!

thinking of you tomorrow mrs and good luck Star

lilygirl81 · 20/01/2016 14:39

chandelier I've had HG, you really need to get your ketones checked. The most I've been in hospital for is 24hours, and it's normally just a day stay, I've been unfortunate with timings which meant I was in longer than normal. You get a drip over 3 or 4 hours and anti-sickness injections and tablets until you feel better. Toast, ice cream and jelly got provided whenever I felt I could eat something.

RoRosie · 20/01/2016 14:39

Pea I've found it fine. Don't push myself too much. Would have sped up up hills before if I could to get the heart racing but now slow down/walk. Went for a few runs with my sister around Christmas, when she didn't know I was pregnant, and waa definitely a bit more short of breath than her. Enjoy it though and it's such a handy form of exercise. Looking forward to getting back to it. Going to start pregnancy yoga in next few weeks and hopefully some swimming.

Jw35 · 20/01/2016 15:40

Congrats hgl! Lovely scan pic! Mine is on Monday.

Nothing much to report, not feeling any hungrier yet and sickness has gone! I'm 12 weeks today.

No news on sister, still waiting for tests.

MamaB80 · 20/01/2016 18:24

Wow hgl what a great scan pic, baby look so cute. Love that the profile is clear. Can't wait for mine. Had a scan at 10 weeks and you could make out a nose if you squinted! My 12 week scan is on 1st Feb. counting down the days!

Had my first midwife appointment yesterday. Husband definitely didn't need to be there but I'm glad he was. I think it helped make it a bit more real for him. Ive had very little in the way of symptoms so it's all been a bit unreal so far despite two early scans!

Re being hungry, I too find that I'm fine, fine, fine and then wham! It hits me and I have to eat or I feel wobbly and faint. Have taken to having a banana in my bag although I'd much rather a chocolate bar! I've put on 1.5kg in the past 10 weeks! Oops.
