Thanks for the support ladies. I will be 7+2 tomorrow and have been told it will be a magic wand scan Hmm
Have decided not to inform the father, do you think this is unreasonable of me? Obviously I will let him know the outcome either way but he has been such an arse the last few weeks I really don't feel comfortable having him there while I am feeling vulnerable. (Particularly given it is an internal)

Dileas29 · 05/01/2016 20:52

Just wondering people's opinions on flu vaccine? Considering asking for it but know mixed views! Hope all is okay squiggle will be thinking of you

Biscuitswithtea · 05/01/2016 20:59

It must be fascinating being in midwifery Four.
I was offered a homebirth (albeit reluctantly!) with ds. I chose midwife led unit, ended up at a different hospital altogether due to capacity issues and needing to be monitored all the way through. Due to various reasons I won't even be allowed the midwife led unit this time round and whilst I am a little sad about that (it's supposed to be lovely!) ultimately I need to feel safe, and to trust that this baby will be safe. For me, this time that means being in a normal hospital maternity ward. C'est la vie!

Flybynight1 · 05/01/2016 20:59

Thanks glencoco!! I will definitely talk with my mw about this. I just assumed it wasn't an option. I am about 30 mins from the hospital...

squiggles my scan at 7w2 was a 'normal' (external) one and it was totally straightforward and we had a good view of the bean, heartbeat and she was able to take a look at my ovaries and she was looking for signs of bleeding. Maybe the EPU wants to look for in detail hence the wand...? I think you know what you would feel most comfortable with-do you have a friend or relative you could take if you need support? At this stage, when you are trying to establish viability or any potential problems and are feeling vulnerable, I think totally understandable to not inform him, especially if he is being a w@nker

Dileas I had the flu vaccine last time during pregnancy, and then subsequently questioned the necessity. This time, much to my midwife's glee, I had one before I was even pregnant as it was a work requirement.
As I understand it, though someone wiser may correct this, it's not that we are remarkably more susceptible to catching flu whilst pregnant but if we get it then it's more problematic than if we weren't preggers. Personal choice at the end of the day!

peamad · 05/01/2016 21:03

Thanks four that is really helpful, and really gives food for thought.

squiggle I think that is totally understandable. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Dileas I had the flu jab before Christmas when I was just 5 weeks. I didn't give it any thought beforehand, just went with the advice of the nurse/GP. I was so thankful afterwards because all of my family came down with flu over Christmas, they were all in bed for 2-3 days with fever, chest pains etc. Although I still caught it I had far milder symptoms and no high temperature at all. Think it was definitely a good idea.

prettyflowers111 · 05/01/2016 21:32

dileas - had my flu jab today at 6+3. Went to tell the gp about the pregnancy and she just said "oh and you'll need your flu vaccination.... I'll see if we've got any left on site for you", off she went, returned with one and did it there and then so I didn't really have much time to sit and think it through! It's done now though so I won't be consulting dr Google on it as I'm sure there's 100s of scare stories out there and it's not like I can un jab myself! What's done is done!

laura2602 · 06/01/2016 02:25

Thanks ladies, good luck to everyone else who has early scans today - I will let you know how I get on after mine. Fingers crossed it's good news xx

Dileas29 · 06/01/2016 06:10

Thanks guys! Will phone and book today xx

AussieMum2Three · 06/01/2016 06:54

Hello all, hope it's ok to join you all ! Im 10 weeks into a very big surprise 4th baby. I've just actually moved back to Australia after 16years in London and finding the whole Aussie system here very frustrating compared to the UK ! I have to find my own places for scans? Pay for them, come to gp for referrals for scans, to midwifes, for nuchal test, there is so much back and forth ! But will all be worth it ! We have only been back since August and currently with my parents but now have hyped up the search for our own home ! My other children are 4.5yr DD, 2.5yr DS1 & 1yr DS2 so another little girl would be nice but my boys are big mummy's boys so another would be equally adored ! Look forward to chatting to you all ! Smile

MamaB80 · 06/01/2016 07:12

Hello everyone, hope you're all doing well and best of luck to those having scans today. My lack of symptoms meant I was getting ever so anxious. I had booked a private early scan for Friday and ended up moving this to Monday (a couple of days ago). It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Did realise we'd actually see the flickering heartbeat! Was told I'm 8 weeks and 5 days now and EDD is 12 Aug.

I've heard of a few people at work having Harmony tests and am considering it. Is anyone here planning to?

SharyBobbins · 06/01/2016 07:36

Good luck to all those having scans today xxx

I feel sick with nerves for my antibody blood test. Goodness knows what I'm going to be like at my scan!

peamad · 06/01/2016 10:07

Thats amazing mama. I have been feeling just like you, but so far have been trying to hold out for my 12 week NHS scan to save money. Wondering now if I should just bite the bullet a pay privately for peace of mind. By the way we are due date buddies Smile Have you had your midwife booking appointment yet? I have mine on Friday, so hoping I will find out the date of my scan then.

I discussed prenatal testing with my DH at the weekend. At my age (29) the risk is actually extremely low, so we decided to just wait and see what the NHS test results say. Assuming they don't show any increased risk we will just leave it at that, otherwise may have to reconsider.

FX for the ladies having scans today xx

Welcome Aussie glad to have you on board. I don't envy all of the time you are having to spend coordinating your antenatal care, got to love the NHS! I'm sure the southern sunshine will make up for it though Smile

FourForYouGlenCoco · 06/01/2016 11:04

Aww mamaB that's brilliant, so glad all went well and you had a good time! And now you can rest easy knowing you're just one of the lucky ones that find pg plain sailing Smile Definitely not having Harmony here but will prob have the standard NHS NT screen, but not take it any further regardless of the result.
Welcome Aussie, nice to have you here! What made you go back to Aus? Sounds tricky all that running around trying to sort stuff out, I do think we take the NHS for granted a bit sometimes, it's pretty amazing really all things considered.
Good luck today squiggle, hope all is well. Not out of order at all not to tell the dad, if he's acting like a knob then he can't expect to be included in things!
Am noticing a definite pattern to the nausea now - still all day, but much more manageable in the morning and through the day, then come early evening it ramps up and by the time I'm putting DD to bed I'm poised to run for the bathroom any second! Need to change my eating habits I think so I'm having more in the day. I keep leaving it til late, then feeling too ill to eat and winding up starving! Anyone else rejigged their normal routines?! DD back at preschool this afternoon, will miss her but can't wait!

M2B816 · 06/01/2016 11:32

Still waiting for call/letter/email (8+1) Don't think I'll opt for any private scan so patience hat will have to be on. Frustrating! Boobs are less sore today, but sense of smell is at the top level mainly on unpleasant smell. It feels like I'm going insane with the hormones playing up. Am hungry but don't know what I want to eat, trouble with no 2 - once every 3 days and it bleeds a little every time. Sorry tmi. Short of breath by doing lightest thing at home. Had to drag myself to work every day without letting anyone know (except for my boss). Feeling very useless! Arghhhh!!! Angry

Mummystar123 · 06/01/2016 11:55

6 weeks and 1 day today, baby seems to be doing brilliant and had a strong heartbeat- I'm feeling so much better now

August 2016-with Berries turning into Beans and a whole lotta fun ahead!
WaitingforaRainbow07 · 06/01/2016 12:34

Had the scan and all they could find was an empty sac :-(
Completely devastated.

Christinedonna · 06/01/2016 12:41

How far are you Rainbow

squigglepants · 06/01/2016 12:52

Scan showed a little fluttery heart and measured correct for dates. I'll post up a picture later.
Sorry rainbow

WaitingforaRainbow07 · 06/01/2016 13:27

6+1 I thought. Don't know the date of my last period but had a positive test on the 20th of December. Have a rescan next Friday but I doubt there's any point. Should be able to see something :-(

MrsSantaClause · 06/01/2016 13:33

So sorry rainbow xxx

Christinedonna · 06/01/2016 14:14

That's what happened to me and when I went back a week later there was a little bean with a heart beat. Fingers crossed for you

M2B816 · 06/01/2016 14:15

Just had a call for flu vaccine, wondering how have you ladies been doing after the jab?

Pipo1704 · 06/01/2016 14:21

So sorry rainbow xxx

Pipo1704 · 06/01/2016 14:23

I'm 7 weeks today. According to phone app / my calcs!

I've booked an early scan for Friday. As I just couldn't wait any longer!

I don't know much about them, & have heard a lot aren't clear. I'm hoping it's still worth while getting just to put my worries at ease a bit?
