What a great deal Typhoonsmum.

I have found the offending bottle a bott le of bubble bath, he had thrown it on the floor of my larder cupboard!!!!.. SO I guess I will be vaxing the carpets later.... lol

On the plus side 2weeks today and my hubby will be home...

Firststar, I am having groin strain problems too! I pulled a muscle in my groin about a month ago and it just isn't healing up. It gets a bit better if I don't do anything for a few days, but obviously that's not terribly practical! I moved some things around in our bedroom last week too, and although I was very careful I must have strained my stomach muscles/ligaments and I was pretty uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards. Ligaments soften and stretch during pregnancy and it's really easy to "pull" things doing activities that would normally not cause any problems.

Hi- I'm new to MN (thanks for the invite twoplusone) Sorry to change the subject a bit..just wanted to get some views and/or suggestions. Am just 15 weeks with baby number 2 and having interrupted sleep nearly every night. Usually wake about 2 am and lucky to get back to sleep by 5 am. Feel very tired today. Have no problems getting off to sleep and no naps in the day (at work so no chance!)Any ideas, apart from lump it!

Miaou · 25/01/2007 13:25

Hello Caroline; afaik the CF thing is only an issue if your son has a baby with a woman who is a CF carrier, in which case they have (I think) a 1 in 4 chance of having a baby with CF. Nothing to worry about at this stage but something he should be aware of when he grows up

Myfairone · 25/01/2007 14:01

Hi Decidedlydizzy, sorry to hear about your sleepless nights! I too have been suffering from this from day 1! its my first pregnancy so I have no idea. I tried cutting out liquids later in the evening but that just made me thirsty. So my answer is, I cant help but I sympathise!

Caroline - I too went to the Fetal Medicine Centre...what a fantastic place. I cannot praise it highly enough. I am so pleased that your CVS results were good! What a relief that must have been.

Twoplusone - Sorry to hear about the bubble bath. Good luck getting it up!

Firststar - Thanks for the kind words. I am sure its just hormonal!

Okay, this may sound like a really dumb question but I just read Typhoonsmum post about the bottles etc and being a good deal and it suddenly dawned on me that I have no clue whatsoever as to what is required for a new baby. Does anyone have (or know where I can find) a list of 'essential stuff' for a baby. I have visions of myself arriving home totally unprepared! I know I have a while but if i can start buying a few bits as the weeks go on it may be easier.

On that note...has anyone started buying stuff yet? I'm almost 14 weeks and haven't bought anything yet. Still just smiling at the thought of having a little one in my tum!

Hope you are all well and bubble, hope the scan went well.

abgirl · 25/01/2007 14:10

Myfairone, generally there is at least 1 pregnancy magazine each month that has a list of what you will need in it. I also used Annabel Karmel's First Year Planner to decide what I wanted/needed, which was extremely helpful. There is one school of thought that you should buy the bare minimum and then buy more as and when you need it, however I bought most things for DS in advance and most were well used. It's also helpful to have some ideas in mind if your parents or anyone wants to buy something for the baby.

I haven't bought anything for this baby yet but still have all of DS's stuff and am starting to look round for a twin buggy. It is more urgent that I get the room cleared out where the baby will go and am doing that slowly....

PS: See a photo of my DS in my profile, click on the yellow folder by my name!!

typhoonsmum · 25/01/2007 14:19

My fair one.

I wrote myself a little checklist of things to get. I can give you a copy if you want.
It has been nearly 5 years since I was last preg and I feel just as lost. A lot I am remebering as things go on but I still feel confused.

auntymandy · 25/01/2007 14:21

hi all, how ya doing?
I am supposed to be ironing or doing Tesco on line..why am I here?

Myfairone · 25/01/2007 14:27

Abgirl - What an absolute cutie! Oh my he looks like a complete angel! You must be so proud!

Thanks for the tips on what to buy. I haven't heard of Annabel Karmel so will google her and feel very funny about buying a pregnancy mag! Kind of makes it feel real! How exciting!

Hope you are feeling better.

abgirl · 25/01/2007 14:33

Hmm, looks can be deceptive!! Though he is fast asleep at the moment and looks like butter wouldn't melt.... [proud mummy icon].

As a parent you will soon learn all about Annabel Karmel - she is the goddess of weaning - the first year planner book is available in Mothercare or from Amazon. Definitely worth buying a few pregnancy mags too if only for the look on your DH's face when he sees the photos of real labours in progress .

Am slowly feeling better and definitely expecting to be back at work next week. Going to a dinner/dance tomorrow night and not sure how long I'll last....

Myfairone · 25/01/2007 14:41

He is gorgeous! He does look like he has a 'cheeky' side to him!

Well, thank you for introducing me to her! I will take a look and see if I can get the book on Amazon. Definitely feel like I need to be a little more prepared.

I was flicking through a mag that the hospital gave me and I don't know about freaking my DH out but my face was a picture as I turned the page and came face to face with a lady spreadlegged with a baby popping out! Really think I am sooooo unprepared for all this! But then at least I won't have to look

Good luck at the dinner dance, I hope you have lots of fun. I have to say, I am just so unsociable at the moment. The thought of eating out and getting ready and all the exersion involved just makes me not want to do anything!

shopping done! pc crashed half way through, then had to do school run. should have just whizzed off to asda!!! but wanted to use voucher and card, my credit account frozen due to fraud!!! should be ok by tomorrow!

typhoonsmum · 25/01/2007 18:17

It is a microwave and cold water steriliser. It is the same size as the one I had for DD. (Had to throw it away as I left it on the side and it got covered in grease and dust.) So I know it will fit the microwave.
My sister lives with my mum and had a baby 10 weeks ago. He is now too big for the moses basket so they are trying to get me to take it back now. I don't want the big stuff like cots and prams and things in the house yet. (Fair enough I have the cot flat packed under DD'd bed but I won't set it up or even get it out till a lot later on - thats a point where did I put the screws to hold it together) I know I'm being superstitious but I don't want to tempt fate.

twoplusone · 25/01/2007 19:31

bubble78 · 25/01/2007 21:02

yes firestar i have a lovely little pic and now i have told everyone aswell they all over the moon

Jennster · 25/01/2007 22:00

MYFAIRONE STEP AWAY FROM THE ANNABEL KARMEL BOOKS RIGHT NOW. You don't need to be patronised by the big haired lady. Your little one hasn't even been born yet. Check out aitch's blog (She is a fellow mumsnetter) if you want an alternative to the ball ache of mushing everything.

Junior Pregnancy and Baby was a magazine I was given as a subscription when I was pregnant first time and found it pretty good... as far as the magazines go. Loads of them seem to peddle old wives tales. Unfortunately it's been reduced to quarterly from monthly and so I was sent Junior in it's place. Check out the cheesy picture of the editor and step away from that publication too. It's full of Ralph Lauren and Dolce and Gabbana childrens wear anyway.
