Hello everyone - Just starting a new thread for this... Will send a message in a mo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I guess with that kind of entertainment going on you didnt have chance to get emotional

I hope that they have some quiet time this afternoon so you can sit and relax for a while!

Pulapula - you get 6 months paid?!?!?! Oh wow! I have been secretly trying to read the staff handbook here and it seems I get 6 weeks at 90% and then 50% for the rest of the 6 months

Bodkin · 02/01/2007 15:21

Hi all, hope you've had a good Christmas and New Year. Haven't had time to catch up with all the chat, but just wanted to say to Chooster that I hope everything goes well with the scan tomorrow. fingers crossed for you xx

Beartime · 02/01/2007 16:36

I'll catch up in a minute, but just wondering, has anyone any thoughts/experiences on home birth vs. midwife birth centre? Don't want hospital birth, do want water birth, and would be all for home birth if it wasn't for my bad experience last time with the MW I was assigned, and also my 100% enjoyment of my sheets being changed and meals being brought and baths being run after my transfer to hospital birth!

Also does anyone live or lived previously in South Wales - we are probably moving there, to nr. Pontypridd. So my options would be homebirth with MWs from Royal Glam in Llantrisant or birth centre in Caerphilly.

Any thoughts?

newby29 · 02/01/2007 16:37

Thanks for that Pulapula - I am an economist, so with you on working out those things! Its all very confusing!
I had been wondered what the changes in April would do to Civil Service deal - so are you saying as of April it is 6 months full pay and 3 months SMP? How is that different from now do you know? (I know it is currently 6 months full pay and then up to 6 months additional, wasnt sure if that was unpaid)...

LieselVonGiftwrapp · 02/01/2007 16:44

Im still here BTW and hope you all had a very happy (if sober) Christmas

Firststar - we are very lucky. There are relatively few good things about being a civil servant, but mat pay is definitely a VERY good one!!

earthtomummy · 02/01/2007 17:28

Happy New yr everyone. not had time to catch up with the thread yet or to post due to frenetic xmas activity with the kids. But had my scan just before Xmas and all is well and somehow I am a wk. more pg. than my dates put me, so my due date is now 5th July. how they figure that I don't know! Beartime, I have the option of hospital/m/w led birthing centre or home birth. I decided that if I go to hospital it may as well be one with all the bits like drs and SCBU etc (also has a birth pool), but if I don't want a hospital then I may as well be at home with 2 midwives than in a birthing centre with 2 m/ws and nothing extra - does that make sense? Still slightly anxious re. the home birth though with the hospital s being 25 mins away.

Beartime · 02/01/2007 18:27

I guess the extra for me at the centre would be midwives who I know are pro-natural birth whereas at home I'd have the luck of the draw - last time the MW didn't really want to be there. Also I'm afraid that the Midwives would be less inexperienced in that type of birth and would be in a rush to transfer me. Also the lack of someone else to clean up, make me food etc. and let me rest which I really needed last time but didn't get cos DH works at home and was at a really busy time which he couldn't just drop for a week. BTW congrats on being a week further on than you thought - that must be nice.

Hope you had a great Christmas everyone else!

Typhoonsmum if you know someone in the US you can get them to order your stuff and mail it to you - or alternatively there are some OLd Navy jeans being sold on UKEbay - they are so comfy and makeyou look so slim I woulddefinitely get some if you are thinking about getting jeans - Mothercare are awful for those! I just got a packet from DHs grandma with Old Navy stuff in and it is soooooooooooo nice

snowytyphoonsmum · 02/01/2007 18:34

Just checked the NHS mat guidelines.

2 months at full pay minus SMP (with SMP added on so basically full pay)
4 months at half pay plus SMP
3 months at just SMP
3 months unpaid.

Just one question.
HOW MUCH IS SMP?

When PG with DD I was a student nurse so entitled to NOTHING.

DP worked too many hours to get income support (went on hours not how much he brought in. He worked in a pub for F### sake)
As I was a student and hadn't paid income tax ( for the three years I was training)I wasn't entitled to any state benefits.

Miaou · 02/01/2007 20:38

Hi all. What a fab photo twoplusone! I remember having my scan with ds and being amazed at how much he was moving around and kicking but I couldn't feel a thing! Not long to my scan now - a week tomorrow

Haven't heard from Kyte for ages have we? But I guess Christmas must be one of the busiest periods of the year for her.

JennStarOfWonder · 02/01/2007 21:03

Hasn't SMP gone up to about £107? OOOoooo break the bank won't it. I get 90% for 6 weeks and then SMP for 33 weeks then nowt for 13 weeks.

Last pg I finished on Christmas eve, took a weeks holiday, started mat leave on 2nd Jan and gave birth just over 2 weeks later. My holiday year runs from 1st April, so I then took some unpaid, holiday and sick leave (coz I got meningitis 2 weeks before I went back) and then went back on reduced hours, which I'm still doing. It's less pay but I get sleeps on the days I'm not working. Think the 90% is calculated from some time during the pregnancy, so if I were to start doing overtime I will boost my 90%.

Chooster · 02/01/2007 21:35

Hi everyone and happy new year to you all!!! I haven't been on since before xmas so there's a lot to catch up on.

So sorry to Cazzybabs about the miscarriage - thats so awful and there is so little to say other than how sorry I am.

EmmyB - How was the CVS today? I hope you are feeling ok and resting up. I had one with my last pregnancy and although the odds of m/c are a wee bit higher it is worth it to get the results quicker. Make sure you take it easy and look after yourself. I had the CVS because of a thicker than normal nuchal fold test and when I looked into it with various doctors / midwives etc, I was surprised how common it can be and still turn out to be nothing. My midwife even told me on a lady whose baby was measuring a high level of fluid on the back of the neck all the way through pregnancy and the baby was perfectly healthy. I only say this because what I'm really trying to say (in a slightly bad way) is try not to worry too much. Let us know how you are....

Congratulations 3flights on your great test results!!! - You must be thrilled!

Thanks for your kind thoughts Firstar and Bodkin - the scan is tomorrow and to be honest I am pretty scared. I've been dreaming about it for the last couple of weeks and imagining the conversation with the consultant if it goes well, and if it goes badly. Last night I woke up from a dream where I was choosing from 4 straws - 3 were long and one was short... But I keep trying to tell myself that there is still a 75% chance of a healthy baby - not bad odds eh?

Apart from my scan terrors, things are definately looking up pregnancy-wise! My MS has been slowly going over the last couple of days and tonight I even feel up to looking on MN so I must be feeling better! Normally I'd be fantasising about getting into bed as soon as DS went to sleep.

Anyway, this is already a long post and I've hardly even said hello to so many of you! So, a big wave from me to you all.

bubble78 · 02/01/2007 22:26

first of all happy new year to all

well im 11 +2 and still not heard about the scan could just be xmas post i know had a letter from midwife at local doctors to make an appointment to see her when im 16 weeks so i know my notes have been passed to her. do you think i should just wait or should i be ringing up?

twoplusone · 03/01/2007 07:39

bubble78- I would ring them up....

emmyb · 03/01/2007 09:38

3flights yeah brill news Im hoping to get good news in a couple of days after CVS.

Chooster thanks for asking it went well yesterday he got a good sample. Im a little tender today though a few shooting pains where the needle went in.

He says that the risky days are today and prob tomorrow. If All is well by the end of tomorrow I think Im out of danger for mc. Fingers crossed. we are hoping to get the first set of results by Friday depending on backlog after xmas. This will tell us about DS, edwards and Patau and also sex chromosomes so we are very nervous but positive (most of the time) Dh has stayed at home with me today to wait on me hand and foot. Even wanted to wheel mw around in a wheelchair!! a little over the top!!

Chooster good luck with the scan today xx

Myfairone · 03/01/2007 09:47

Emmyb - So glad that your okay. Every hour that passes is a good sign, so just take it easy and take advantage of your wonderful DH staying home with you. Good luck!

Chooster - Good luck today! Be sure to let us know. I think its perfectly normal to be worried about the scan. I'm having bad dreams about it already and I have to wait til the 18th!

Bubble - I would give them a call. I hadn't heard anything and when I called they had made the appointment (but thanks to Christmas post and second class postage) I had not received the letter.

I feel cr*p today! Had two good days and thought my MS was a thing of the past! Today its back with a vengence! Nearly fainted on the train this morning and feel very tired....Oh well! I'm not complaining

Have a great day everyone!

Chooster- How did it go today?

Emma- Glad to hear you got a good sample, and that DH is taking care of you. keep your feet up and relax.

Myfairone sorry to hear you feel like cr*p.

I am still really tired when will it stop!! I want some energy.
Am managing to keep going though keeping mysef busy.

I bought a dishwasher yesterday and it gor delivered this morning. So I have unpacked it amd plumbed it in..it is doing its first load now and no leaks . Only prob was that I have no outlet for the hose so am having touse the kitchen sink, but hey I fdont need it to wash up!!
So I am feeling quite proud of myself, and luckily it wasnt that heavy.

DS is back on form today, he just doesnt stop all day he is up to mischief.. Iam sure he knows I am tired and want to sit and relax.... bless his cotton socks...

DH was chuffed with his scan piccie... 1Month today and he will be home.... sssllleeeeppp, he is in for a shock I think he is expecting lots of lovin when he gets back and all I will want to do if I still feel like this is lots of slleepp...

catstar · 03/01/2007 12:56

Good Morning - congrats to y'all with good news and good luck Emmyb and Chooster. Had mine scan yesterday and all is well - such a relief to know I wasn't imagining it all! Couldn't believe how active it was, although had 4 tries before able to do the nuchal measurement. Was instructed to go off and have some chocolate to try to get it to move position - it worked! EDD still 9 July.

Myfairone · 03/01/2007 15:00

Catstar- Great news! I'm smiling at your comment about you not imagining it! Thats exactly what I'm hoping for when I have mine. I am so keen to get there and see it!

Twoplusone - You are one 'capable' lady, you know that?! Well done! But please try and take some time for yourself. Hopefully by the time your DH gets home you will have much more energy. Plus, you will be so excited that will keep you going for a while!

Firststar - Great news on your scan..so cute of the little one to wave! Its been a tough journey but you are getting there!

Big hugs to everyone!

earthtomummy · 03/01/2007 16:03
