I really am clueless about induction, so any info is amazing thankyou - I am a bit more knowledgeable now, trying not to google it as tends to be more bad stories, but in RL, people I know who were induced don't say bad hings, I guess people only talk about bad experiences. I don't want to be confined to the bed. I told the midwife who sweeped me that I have quite a good tolerance to pain and she gave me a raised eye brow and I shouted 'Ohmygod' when she shoved her hand up there, hah. I'm saying no to epidural now, but may likely change my mind. not making any concrete birth plans now.

Ahh it'll all be over in a couple of days :D I had a little look on the Jan babies postnatal board. Looking forward to the aftereffects of birth. Hope you are all ok and find its worth it :)
I'm feeling really tired today sweets . How far along are you?

LibertyBelles · 25/01/2016 16:54

Hi all, I'm 40 weeks today on the dot. Had a midwife appointment today and she attempted a sweep but cervix was unfavourable and posterior so she couldn't. Had a bloody mucus thing afterwards but nothing since so just waiting. I'm assuming I'll go all the way to my induction which will be about 40+10 (had a consultant appointment today as well because I've had two episodes of reduced fetal movement)

oneconfusedchick · 25/01/2016 17:40

I am 40 weeks tomorrow! Getting a few period type pains but nothing regularly - ready for baby now! I was Induced with number 1 and really see that happening, however I didn't have the 'false labour' BH type pains with my first so maybe I'll be lucky and have a better/faster labour/induction?! Xx

LibertyBelles · 25/01/2016 17:43

oneconfusedchick how was your induction with your first if you don't mind me asking?

oneconfusedchick · 25/01/2016 18:58

I can't say it was an enjoyable experience although it was not too bad compared to lots of others I know.

I went in approx 9am 40+11 as requested. I was given a side room which was private and comfortable and given a pessery. This was left for 24 hours. Did nothing whatsoever. The policy at this hospital was then to leave me another 24 hours (approx) and see if anything happened without pessary. Nothing happened but the midwife came in later in afternoon on +12 and said she thought she could break my waters even though I was only 1cm. They did just that - not a pleasant experience but not awful either. They then hooked me up to the drip to progress things and I also was given an epidural at same time so I never really experience any labour pains. This was good but made pushing hard and I would jot necessarily have epidural straight away this time. My baby was born 450am on 40+13 so the drip was successful in inducing labour. The reason I did not feel I had a good experience were...

  1. i was woken every 3 hours (night/day) for 30 min monitoring sessions which meant by time I was in active labour I was knackered and agreed to epidural mostly just to get rest!
  2. I had an epidural which was good but I could not feel to push and I really feel this could have caused my need for ventouse and epiostomy.

Not sure what I'm gonna opt for this time if I need induction!!

Feel free to ask anything else :)Flowers

Thanks so much oneconfusedchick that's very helpful! Do things always go in the same order or does it depend on how dilated/effaced you are? Any ideas how you can get these things going on your own?

oneconfusedchick · 25/01/2016 19:28

I've been asking around where I am now (different area) and it seems some people skip the pesseries and go straight to drip. I think maybe if your already effaced or something like that you might be able to get the drip but it seems to vary from person to person and hospital to hospital. As far as I am aware though I think most places start you on pessary then drip and never heard of it other way round!

oneconfusedchick · 25/01/2016 19:31

There are various things (most of which have little or no scientific backing) things I did with DC1 include: keeping active, stairs, going for walks, bouncing on gym ball, eating pineapple, drinking raspberry leaf tea, acupuncture!

Those did bugger all. This time I've eaten a bit of pineapple but that's it! I think some women just have longer pregnancies maybe

X

LibertyBelles · 25/01/2016 19:54

Fair enough, thanks for all your help Grin

vickyors · 25/01/2016 20:09

Well, I'm off tomorrow morning at 7.30. frankly I'm terrified. Today I had my pre op appointment and they attempted to take bloods (failed twice) so I'm already punctured!

Had to sign so many forms about possible complications.. Slightly terrifying!
There are three ladies tomorrow, so if there are emergencies they could cancel on us.. I really hope I don't have to come home and go through this again!

Hope you guys are all ok.. Will keep you posted if we have our baby safely!

Rpj16 · 25/01/2016 21:40

Hope it all goes well tomorrow Vicky. Nice and early - that's good, don't have to wait around in anticipation. x

Phizpop · 25/01/2016 22:11

Thinking of you tomorrow vicky.
Had a quiet day today felt so tired and emotional after my parents left that the baby still wasn't here, phoned the unit as baby had been quiet in the morning, but as the baby had then been moving just whilst I was getting ready to call them, they said to wait a bit longer, since then baby been happily moving all afternoon, typical! Glad I phoned tho, part of my anxieties about labour had just been the process of speaking to the hospital (madness, I'm a healthcare professional myself, strange what pregnancy can do to your confidence at this stage!).
Keep getting period pains and tightness at night but settle by 5 am, really want to just get on with it now, not sure I can cope with another week before induction... just feeling in limbo now!

oneconfusedchick · 26/01/2016 08:47

Good luck today Vicky Grin

Elvi1 · 26/01/2016 10:18

Good luck vicky - looking forward to receiving news on your arrival.

vickyors · 26/01/2016 10:30

Currently waiting.. Am third in theatre so thinking I'll be done thisafternoon..

Rpj16 · 26/01/2016 13:52

Hi ladies, booked in for induction for 3. Been having regular close contractions since 11.45 difficult to know if it's the real thing as first baby. About 6 mins apart. Ooooh..... Could be a water baby after all! Not getting hopes up just yet tho. Wonder how Vicky is doing!! :)

LibertyBelles · 26/01/2016 13:57

Sounds promising rpj16 good luck

Phizpop · 26/01/2016 17:45

Ooooh sounds like some more babies on their way, hope it's was the real thing for you rpj so you could have the birth you wanted, if not that induction goes smoothly. Vicky hope all went smoothly for you too.

How many are there of us still waiting?!?!

LibertyBelles · 26/01/2016 17:55

I'm still waiting rhizpop - 40+1 today but soon it'll be tomorrow so nearly 40+2

vickyors · 26/01/2016 19:22

Had baby Hannah at 12.30. Section went incredibly smoothly and was very calm. I was terrified, but everyone was amazing. Got lots of help with feeding so that's going well so far. Shattered, but incredibly happy.. Keeping on top of pain (just).. feel very blessed!

LibertyBelles · 26/01/2016 19:22

Congrats vicky

Elvi1 · 26/01/2016 20:54

Aw congratulations vicky! Flowers. See you over on the Jan 2016 babies thread when you are ready!

oneconfusedchick · 26/01/2016 21:44

Congrats! I'm 40 weeks today Smile

I've been getting pains down below today I don't think it is BH tho I think it's just the baby moving and shifting /pressing down- has anyone else or did anyone else have these? I want baby now!

Phizpop · 27/01/2016 10:06

Congratulations vicky!
41 wees today (cue lots of friendly texts from various people....!)
chick I've been getting aches and tightening in the evenings (since last Thursday), one days stronger than others, and no pattern. Hoping cervix has done something when I see the midwife again tomorrow (and watch her eat her words, she didn't think she would need to see me again....!)

Elvi1 · 27/01/2016 15:56

phizpop will you be having another sweep tomo?
