So had my 36 week growth scan today and baby has fallen down the centiles massively. From about the 90th centile to about the 20th. I totally freaked out and burst into tears. Luckily I also had an appnt with my consultant (who is amazing) and she had a close look at all the measurements and isn't worried. She thinks the femur bone measurement has thrown the others out and the head changes shape the closer you get to labour and he is very low down in my pelvis now.

So she wants to see me on Tuesday to scan me herself and recheck everything and if I'm still feeling hysterical (i cried all over her as I'm so scared it's all going to go wrong at the end) then they will induce me early. I feel as though I'd like to get to the beginning of February, so maybe start trying to he him out at 38 weeks. She said the placenta is showing no obvious signs of deterioration but I just don't trust my body anymore.

clarabellski · 14/01/2016 15:41

Oh whoknew Flowers Your consultant sounds lovely though!

So that swab I got on Monday due to dodgy coloured discharge did turn out to be a fanjo infection, I need to get some antibiotics from the doctor to clear it up. Probably shouldn't have had The Sex last night Blush. Ah well....

Ratty policy at my MLU is almost the same although it is 40+14 rather than 40+12. I can't even contemplate 40+14 (hence The Sex!).

Newlywed123 · 14/01/2016 15:43

What's babies approximate weight whoknew? I had a growth scan today, they couldn't get a head measurement so had to go of just the stomach and femur. Baby is around 6lb 1oz @36+3

Stepawayfromthezebras · 14/01/2016 15:57

Oh whoknew I'm so sorry you're so worried. But I don't know that growth scans are massively accurate. I know the feeling of not trusting your body any more though, I feel like now I've got so far, I just want little one out Flowers

clumsy bum pinching hadn't occurred to me but thanks for the idea Grin

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 14/01/2016 16:29

I think the weight given by the computer was 5lb 8, but my consultant said she thinks it's around 6lb.

It's so weird as his femur measurement was really long for ages and we joked he was going to unfurl like a spider once born. But now suddenly it is measuring 2 weeks behind! His abdominal measurement is bang on 36 and head only slightly behind.

Rufus200 · 14/01/2016 17:01

whoknew sounds like you have a great consultant, hope all turns out good.

clara hope your infection clears up quickly

Well I learnt a major lesson this afternoon! I have to sit down to put my boots on. Standing in my hallway, get 1 on, go to put the 2nd on, completely overbalance. Smash my head into the wall, my arm into the door, landed on my knees and somehow cut my hand open. My mum found me sat on the floor, she couldn't stop laughing. I told it wasn't in the least bit funny and I had really hurt myself. She said it was nervous laughter and couldn't stop. I've never told her to fuck off so much before in my life!
Baby has been moving fine but now have back and belly muscle ache from where I wrenched myself so severely making sure I didn't land on my belly. I would never forgive myself if I hurt him doing something so stupid as putting my shoes on! I shall now sit down for all trousers, tights and shoes! I am going to be covered from head to toe in bruises and everything hurts.

goneswimming · 14/01/2016 19:29

I had a scan today and discovered baby is breech after all- having been told at two mw appts now that he's head down, it's a bit of a shock! So waiting for mw again at 36 weeks, then another scan and manual turning or booking in for a section. I'm a bit broadsided by this.

XingXingFox · 14/01/2016 19:57

ratty there's no rules about the sweep, you can have it or not have when you want, it's part of your birth plan discussion. You should have a midwife spot on your due date of the baby hasn't shown up and you can discuss it then.

whoknew my DD was born on and has remained on the 9th centile, 6lbs 4. Which is a very normal weight. She is now three and has remained on her centile, which is a good thing.I was exactly the same weight and am 6ft tall. I think as people generally have got bigger, the bigger centile are seen as good but we were all probably around 6-8lbs when born. Hope you're okay.

gone it's a terrible shock the whole breech thing/planned c sec. I was pretty upset last weekend, it feels like it's something that shouldn't happen. My baby was footling breech last Saturday and has been for last two appts and I have the scan/manually manipulation on Wednesday. Still haven't decided whether to go through with ECV. I'm also 36 weeks, when us your scan? Will let you know how it goes!

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 14/01/2016 21:24

I just feel really weird about everything at the moment. I just hope on Tuesday we can find a new measurement for the femur and we can put the weird measurement down to human error or the baby being at a funny angle. If it's still measuring small then I don't know, I guess the baby will just have short legs lol. My legs are short and my torso is long and I've survived! 😜

Rufus200 · 14/01/2016 21:33

whoknew my Dr measured my baby's abdomen as 3 weeks behind the day before my growth scan. The foetal specialist said no matter how many times he took measurements, he could only get the measurement 1 week behind. I think that it is all very subjective of where they put the pointer on the scan, every scanner will use a slightly different point on the same picture! Femur length had been ahead until the specialist, who said average length legs.

I have some lovely bruises starting to emerge already. Baby still kicking away, so all ok.

clumsypots · 14/01/2016 22:04

rufus hope you are not too sore and glad baby is ok.

whoknew I don't think they ever know really until baby is born, my friends sister had to be induced a month early because they said baby was too small but was born over 1lb heavier than they had measured it at

IslaMann · 15/01/2016 00:11

Yes I also have my date for my section. It's next Friday. Not so sure I'm going to get there tho as have had period type pain and lower back pain all day, which I'm told could be the start of early labour.

clarabellski · 15/01/2016 09:09

I've been getting period cramps at night this past week Isla but they are constant for a few hours then go away again (as opposed to coming in short waves like contractions). I like to think of it as limbering up Grin

I think they say you can experience that for weeks before you go into established labour, so fingers crossed you can make it to next Friday (although even if you do go into labour early, I'm pretty sure they can still give you the section?)

I was really excited when I woke up this morning as I thought the baby had moved down to my pelvis (I seemed to have way more room to breath), but the little rascal has wiggled its way back up again. I'm discreetly burping away at my desk! Blush

Troika · 15/01/2016 12:35

Oh who knew, please try not to worry. I don't think scans are particularly accurate tbh. Especially not after my experience with my second. I had mine today and it all looked ok but it was more cool seeing her squished up in there chewing her toes than me getting any reassurance from the measurements- I know first hand how inaccurate they can be. All I've taken from the scan is that she was looking healthy in there and heartbeat and cord flow were good. I'll see how big she is when she gets here.

At least you have a lovely and reassuring consultant, mine is a dragon!

Troika · 15/01/2016 12:37

Oh and dont forget there is only a couple of mm between the centiles - it's nothing!

Troika · 15/01/2016 12:45

Ratty hope your dh is ok. How are you doing?

Trying to pack hospital bag and think of birth plan but mind has gone blank!

Re baby baths, I always used the shower head to fill it, much easier. This poor baby has a flexi tub instead of a bath though.

Clara my favourite nursing bra with ds was an Emma jayne one. Not sure if they've changed since then though

RattyCatty · 15/01/2016 13:23

whoknew your consultant sounds lovely & I echo what the others say in that I don't think these scans are very accurate at this late stageFlowers

rufus hope you aren't sore and are ok.

clara hope infection clearing up quickly & im very impressed with the sex! Not sure when we'll resort to that haha!

isla a friend of mine went into lab before her scheduled c section & they did the c-section for her no problem.

thank you troika we are ok - less worried after consultant app, DH has to have another scan in a month but hopefully that's just to be careful.

I had hoped this baby would be early but I think I'm in for the long haul!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 15/01/2016 14:04

rufus hope you're feeling OK, what a nasty shock for you

isla yes, I checked this with my consultant about a million times when I got my c-section date confirmed last Friday. I kept asking "so if I go into labour, it's on my notes that I'm having a c-section" and got reassured each time that yes, I definitely would be.

clarabellski · 15/01/2016 14:32

AFTERNOON RANT ALERT

Think this baby is trying to make a jailbreak out of my ribcage a la John Hurt in Alien

Calm the f*ck down baby!!!!

IslaMann · 15/01/2016 15:28

Thing is, I HAVE to have a section as I am high risk of uterine perforation. They don't want me to go into labour at all. Hence my section at 38+1. So I'm getting pretty anxious as my life and the babies will be in danger if I start contracting 😞

Stepawayfromthezebras · 15/01/2016 17:36

You'll definitely get a section isla but i understand the worries about going into labour. How far are you from the hospital? If you're really concerned you can always ask to be admitted to the antenatal ward, I'm being admitted on Tuesday ahead of my section on Thursday

haquoi123 · 15/01/2016 19:36

Really sorry to hear about all the anxiety and worries at the moment. Best of luck to you and your DH ratty, really fingers crossed it's all ok. whoknew, the scans can be 3lbs out either way so really try not to worry (easier said than done I know). I also know the feeling of worrying that your body is going to let you down, I'm thinking of you Flowers rufus how are the bruises? Are you ok?

On the other side of things, we'll have some more babies next week! Woo!

How're things with you mawsy?

And had anyone heard anything from calypso? And till?

Baby is still as high as ever. I've been a grumpy cow the last couple of days with feeling sick and non stop acid reflux, poor DH has been fab though. I finally gave in and asked him to take my boots off today, just couldn't face bending down!

There seems to be loads of people having sections, I'm feeling a bit like the odd one out. Who else is going to have a natural birth?

Newlywed123 · 15/01/2016 19:53

Finding it hard to keep up with this thread!

haquoi123 I'm having a Natural Labour Smile

Finally finished packing my hospital bag today, feeling relieved. I haven't done a birthing plan though.. just seeing where things end up, will more than likely be a water birth as I had one last time and loved it!

Now I'm all ready, I'm going to have a relaxing arts and craft weekend with my 20 month old daughter just incase my stitch removal triggers Labour on Monday Smile

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 15/01/2016 20:01

I am having a vaginal birth unless something unexpected comes up obviously!

Rufus200 · 15/01/2016 20:02

isla I completely understand your anxiety about going into natural labour. I've been having the exact same pains as you, caused my Dr to raise her eyebrows but she scanned my cervix and it hasn't changed in length. She said until it gets to 1cm, then there is no chance of imminent labour. I've got 2 weeks on Tuesday to wait still. If my cervix does suddenly shorten, then my date might get brought forward. My fear is being home alone and having to call a cab to take me the 1hr drive to hospital. Being scared and in pain with a total stranger is not what I want!!! Can you get your cervix scanned? My Dr does the quickest scan with the dildo cam as she doesn't want to touch my cervix and start anything.

I'm bruised but ok. My elbow is causing me quite a lot of pain as I had been using them to push myself up to try and save my abdominals from splitting.
