ratty hope you are ok

Someone in my NCT group was sent home from hospital today and has just had her baby on her living room floor, she was overdue (my NCT group has nearly 8 weeks of spread out due dates).

jellypi3 · 13/01/2016 18:21

Blimey that's scary rufus! My nct group are dropping them like mad, I'm one of the last due!

clumsypots · 13/01/2016 18:43

Hi Newly

Oh ratty that must be hard, hope appointment went well Flowers

bird definitely take your bag!

I got asked today at hospital if I was high risk in this pregnancy because I was so much older than when I had my first...Um no I'm only 26! Angry

goneswimming · 13/01/2016 19:02

I'm having waves of really intense period-style cramps increasingly, but whil they seem to get more intense each time they start, they also switch off again after a few hours. It's driving me crazy. I'm only 34 weeks so it's probably nothing.
ratty I hope your man's doing OK, such a worry especially at this time!

Rufus200 · 13/01/2016 19:09

My lump has burst again already. Not quite sure what to do with it. Don't want to wear underwear under my pjs and I don't want to wear a liner which is going to rub against it and irritate it more. Stung when I had my Epsom salts bath. Gave it a squeeze after it had burst in the hope it might flatten out but it just sprayed blood everywhere instead and then filled back up agin. Hoping that it may dry out and crust overnight (doesn't that sound wonderful!)

XingXingFox · 13/01/2016 19:57

Hi newly welcome!

rufus that is awful. I can't believe you have to go through that.

Exciting bird I can't wait for more babies to arrive!

Rufus200 · 13/01/2016 21:51

Easy to clean and assemble bottles my arse! I wanted to wash and dry them all then put them away until needed, then sterilise. The nipples still all have condensation in them. Any tips how to get them to dry out? I left them sat on kitchen roll for a hour before I started drying in the hope it would drain out. I take it when sterilising it doesn't matter if they aren't dry and you just use them immediately? No wonder women would rather breastfeed then faff with a bottle!

clumsypots · 13/01/2016 22:32

rufus do you have to cover it? Could you not just wear a nightie in bed tonight and let the air get to it? I have no idea if this would help by the way. Also I have no idea on the bottle front, I just washed and sterilised straight away when I finished breast feeding last time

RattyCatty · 13/01/2016 22:36

Thanks ladies- ultrasound clear so hopefully that means it's nothing too serious.

rufus I agree with clumsy could you let air get to it?

I also have no clue on bottles (or most things!!!)

Rufus200 · 13/01/2016 23:06

I'm wearing big baggy cotton pjs to bed, they aren't rubbing. I'm one of those people that can't sleep without bottoms on. I would take them off for sex and then put them back on afterwards to sleep.

birdbrain21 · 14/01/2016 08:07

Rufus sounds really uncomfortable you poor thing glad you found some comfy pj bottoms.
For bottles I can't really remember as did mixed feeding so didn't use that often but the best thing to do is probably drain upside down for a few mins then dry on the side so air can get in the teats.

monkerina · 14/01/2016 08:55

Rufus that sounds grim, poor you. Fingers crossed things improve...

Welcome Newly!

I'm after some advice- after a minor strop last night when it transpired that the baby bath we've borrowed doesn't really fit either bath (one is a corner bath, so you can't get the baby one close enough to the taps to fill; the other one has a fixed shower screen so really awkward) I'm wondering how other people deal with bathing baby? Is a bath really necessary, nice-to-have or OTT?

clarabellski · 14/01/2016 09:18

Thanks for the bra advice ladies. I actually have some of those nursing tops (bought by accident a couple of years ago but actually really comfy). I'm going to buy some more of them as well as a couple of proper bras I think.

Welcome to the thread newlywed

Glad to hear the scan was clear ratty, hope you find answers soon Flowers

rufus Flowers

Monkerina we've got a basin (the kind for washing dishes!) that will do for when they are small and actually, for the first week or so they suggest not bathing at all, just topping & tailing. For when they are a bit bigger my brother is giving me a bath insert thing, kind of looks like a reclining potty, it supports the baby in your own bath, if that makes sense, kind of like this picture I've googled (although don't think it is same brand): www.kiddicare.com/p/Essential_Bath_Support_in_White.htm?product_id=595087&utm_source=pla&affiliate=PLA&gclid=CLrWt_P7qMoCFU2NGwodJDEMxw

clumsypots · 14/01/2016 10:33

rufus how are things this morning?

monkerina I loved the baby bath I had with my first but I wouldn't say it was a necessity just nice to have.

MaisieDotes · 14/01/2016 10:48

ratty glad to hear your DH's scan was clear, hope you can get to the bottom of what it is.

My mum is awaiting one too as she was in hospital overnight last week with suspected kidney stone(s). She rang me and said "don't go into labour! I'm in a&e!" She's fine now although they still aren't sure what's going on.

clumsy I can't stop dropping things either. At one stage I wondered whether I was just more hyper-aware of it as bending down to pick things up is such a hassle. But no, I'm definitely dropping things- in fact I barely have to touch something these days before it hops onto the floor Confused

The house is in a terrible state, I'm waiting for a burst of nesting energy to overtake me so I can get it sorted!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 14/01/2016 10:57

Clara I'm with you on the breathing thing. My bump looks lower but breathing's still a challenge.

rufus the bleeding sounds scary, I hope the lump clears up soon for you. And ta for the c-section bandage link

Welcome newlywed Smile

37 weeks today, this time next week I'll be having my section Shock did my last bit of shopping yesterday and stocked up on lactulose and waterproof mascara Grin

clarabellski · 14/01/2016 11:12

OMG Zebras that's exciting!!!!

Does anyone else have a ECLS scheduled? It must be bizarre knowing the date you're going to meet your baby. It's a guessing game for the rest of us!

madsaz76 · 14/01/2016 11:28

Oh gosh - scheduled baby arrivals. It's getting real Shock

Stepawayfromthezebras · 14/01/2016 11:46

It's bizarre but very exciting Smile yup there are a couple of others with planned dates - it's all getting very real indeed!

Posey01 · 14/01/2016 12:11

I'm 34 weeks with breech baby...so waiting until 36 for another prod from the midwife then scan to see if we will be booked for an elective...Still time to turn of course but it must be getting very squished in there!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 14/01/2016 12:39

Hurrah! My post c-section grabber has just arrived. £5 including P&P from eBay so I won't have to do any bending to pick things up Grin

clumsypots · 14/01/2016 12:48

zebras how exciting! Also how many times will you be pinching people's bums with the grabber, I know I couldn't help myself!

maisie perhaps you and I need to invest in a grabber too to pick up after ourselves and pinch dh's bum

NorthernChinchilla · 14/01/2016 14:14

I am typing this sitting in the hospital waiting room to get my date clara - can't wait Grin! Can't believe yours is in a week zebras, that's amazing.
I love being able to pop the date in the diary- this baby is not allowed to come early...

How are you getting on rufus, that all sounds awful for you. The pain must be horrible and I'd worry about infection.

XingXingFox · 14/01/2016 14:55

I am the same as posey except I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and baby hasn't turned, scan booked for Wednesday and then I think they will give me a date for the elective then, so no date yet. I was just thinking how strange it would be to know the date in advance. Not that strange really but I can't imagine I would sleep much the night before!

RattyCatty · 14/01/2016 15:07

Thank you clara & maisie health worries magnified when you think of a little one to add to family! maisie I hope your mum is ok & not in pain.

Nearly 38 weeks... Nct ladies said in this area they offer you a sweep from your due date, but only three in total & three days apart? Then induce you if you reach 40+12. It's so strange not knowing when things will happen! That's the great thing about c sections!
