I did get a couple of pairs of maternity jeans from a discount maternity shop a couple of weeks ago, and some very sexy velour tracky bottoms (great for itchy skin) but now bump has kind of disappeared as the bloating has subsided I don't feel like I need them as much now 😕 Maternity bras are a staple though!

Rose2806 · 10/12/2015 23:32

Beano I was 3 weeks late (my poor mum!) And my brother and sister were late too, so if that runs in families I could also be later than the 19th!

emma85x · 11/12/2015 02:45

Does it run in the family? I'd be interested to know!

I am really tired of getting up in the middle of the night, every night, to go for a wee! Need sleep! Star

AltCarbon · 11/12/2015 05:06

Anyone else have a scan today? I've slept terribly because of the scanxiety. Fingers (and everything else) crossed though that it will be ok.

Lovelybeano · 11/12/2015 06:05

Good luck with your scan today alt

Lovelybeano · 11/12/2015 06:14

rose & emma I think I'm just going to tell people I'll have a baby by July cos as soon as you hit your due date, people ask you lots of silly questions like 'haven't you had that baby yet?!' Well obviously not cos I'm still the size of a house lol the last few days I struggled walking about with ds and my mil was doing the school run for me, my phone went crazy, people wishing me good luck on fb and I wasn't in labour - I was just too big to waddle down to school heehee

emma85x · 11/12/2015 06:43

Good plan beano!

Good luck today alt!

Belleboo23 · 11/12/2015 07:29

Late starter here with the sickness I'm 12+6 had alot of nausea over the weeks along with heaving but first time throwing up today which seems odd! Feel better for it though, should have been scan day for me today but because of work had to re arrange for Monday so good luck to everyone going today xxx

dollydaydream84 · 11/12/2015 07:48

Good luck alt - I'm having my scan today too! Got everything crossed xx

For due dates, I had in my head I would be 2 weeks late so in my head worked to that date, I didn't feel frustrated at all when DC1 turned up 13 days late. My friends who had early first babies were crawling the walls with impatience when their second turned up late as they had been working to an early date in their head. My top tip is work to the date 2 weeks after your due date! :D

I'm so scared, nervous and excited rolled into one. Mostly scared. eek!

dollydaydream84 · 11/12/2015 07:55

Good luck for Monday Belle I was nauseous all the way through with my first then was sick for the first time at 30 weeks and once a week thereafter, no logic to that! I also always felt better after being sick! Hope you arent tooo poorly today x

amysmummy12345 · 11/12/2015 07:56

Good luck scanees, fingers crossed for lots of healthy wriggly babies!! Xxx

emma85x · 11/12/2015 08:10

Good luck for today dolly!

Interesting advice about when baby will arrive. I'm due on 16/6 and planning on starting maternity leave on 6/6. I'm a teacher so that's the first day back after half term. This is my first baby - based on your experience, do you think this is too early?!

bikingintherain · 11/12/2015 08:20

Emma I was teaching with DC1, and booked to go on maternity leave at 38 weeks, I was determined to get my year 11's ready for their Jan exam, so by going then would only miss the last week before Christmas. I was struggling to keep up with the workload physically, especially as there was so much handover work to prepare. And by 37 weeks had to go and see HoD and then Head to ask to go on maternity leave early. Teaching is so physically demanding, and I really overestimated myself!

I was two weeks late with that birth, and it was frustrating.

Incidentally here in the Netherlands I have to have started my maternity leave by 36 weeks. You're not allowed to go further.

Eastend2015 · 11/12/2015 08:38

Good luck alt and dolly!

GrubbyWindows · 11/12/2015 08:59

biking that's so interesting re the Netherlands! I worked to 39 weeks last time in an office job, but only because my cover dropped out and I had to train someone else!
I wished I'd stopped sooner, I would not have been up for something like teaching that late on. Just a great big waddling knackered thing by then.

laughingGnomette · 11/12/2015 09:35

Good luck scanees!!

emma - everyone is different but in a physically demanding role you may be glad to finish early. I planned to work until the bitter end last time but due to SPD and my London commute I ended up finishing a month before my due date.

Good luck dolly!!

I would say that should be ok emma because you would have the half term before that aswell? It depends how you feel really, with dd I worked until 38 weeks and had 5 months mat leave, with ds I worked until I was a week overdue then went back to work 4 days after giving birth (which is illegal btw but I didn't realise until I got shouted at by the midwife lol) this time I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I can claim smp this time, however I won't go back to work as soon as I did with ds - I've got a funny feeling the general house running & mummy chores are going to be enough to keep my hands busy for a while!!!

Eastend2015 · 11/12/2015 10:28

Have graduated to massive and ugly maternity bras now. The previous ones from mothercare weren't too bad but have gone up another size in the last few weeks, which when your starting point is a 32E is no joke 🙄

mrsmugoo · 11/12/2015 10:37

I think I will finish work at 36/37 weeks this time. I worked to 38 and had him at 39 weeks last time and I wished I'd had longer off to rest before because it's just mayhem after!!

With DS in nursery I will get 3 days a week rest which will be bliss!

Torfhinn · 11/12/2015 10:40

Just read this and thought others might enjoy. For first time mums, i would recommend saving this somewhere and reading it on those early days when you feel you are struggling. So much of what she says resonates with me from when i had my son, so much unnecessary worry. I hope it helps x

You ladies are wonderful!!! Thank you so much for all of your advice. Much appreciated. Biking - I'm Head of Department at my school so I think the handover will be a huge amount of work, especially with the new curriculum changes in Sep '16! Luckily my GCSE and A Level classes go on study leave in May so I'm not worried about them.

I'm going to tell my mum tonight!! I am SO SO excited to finally be able to tell someone. Just too excited! Finally allowing myself to believe this is actually happening and to be happy instead of worrying 24/7!

alt and dolly I hope you scans are going well/have gone well. Hope to see some photos later on.

Have a wonderful day ladies! Xmas Grin

bikingintherain · 11/12/2015 12:28

Yes I hadn't thought of that. The wonders of the summer term and teaching exam classes! (I used to teach Chemistry and so always ended up teaching a lot of exam classes, lots of stress at times, but wonderful summer terms!)

It should mean that your plans will work out well, especially with half term in to buy you an extra week off.

TattedPixie · 11/12/2015 12:53

Terrible hip pain today. Cuddled up on the sofa with my blanket. Luckily all the major chores are done.
Hitting the 12 week milestone tomorrow, hopefully things start to get better, but I'm not too hopeful lol

dollydaydream84 · 11/12/2015 13:03

Scan was a good one! Hurray! Such a wriggler!
Been moved forward another day so EDD 24th June 12+0 today.
Starting to sink in now we have told people!
Thanks for all the messages of support :)
