Betty - I had a very long think about it too. Just went with NT but no amniocentesis, if it showed risk.

Very jealous obsessed have a fabulous time! I've always wanted to go!

nehagarg I'm exactly the same. To be honest I really really don't mind but I think my baby is a little girl, based on shettles really (we dtd 3 days before ovulation) DH would like a boy to continue the family name! He has two married sisters. Overall, after waiting so many years to conceive I genuinely don't mind. I'm just too happy!! Your scan has made me so excited for mine even though we don't have a scan date yet! Really stunning photo!

bikingintherain · 18/11/2015 18:04

Beautiful scans ladies! I'm a little sad I won't get another one until 20 weeks as the difference between 9 weeks and 12 weeks is incredible! This week the baby is the size of a poker chip, an exciting fact for you there.

Betty it's a difficult and personal decision.

We decided not to have it as we wouldn't have an amnio as the probability of miscarriage from it, is higher than the the probability that if you come up high risk you will actually have a problem. If that makes any sense?

Well at least that was the case in my last pregnancy, and it may be that it was for me in a certain demographic etc so that statement might not be applicable to everyone, IYSWIM?

This time our midwife was very clear that if we wouldn't do anything about it after a scan then she really didn't see the point of having one. But maybe that's the Dutch way!

nehagarg · 18/11/2015 18:14

Thanks emma. Good luck for yours. Its really an exciting time! Smile

Only trouble is, its such a long time till the 20 week scan and does anyone else hate that its called the anomaly scan?

Congrats mrslewis. Really glad all is well. Such an awesome scan pic.

I definitely found the 20 week scan scarier than the 12 week one last time. You've had longer to get used to pregnancy and then the thought of finding out that something could be seriously wrong with the baby as they go over it in so much detail made it so nerve wracking.

I was surprised to find out the combined test also picks up risk of Edwards and Patau syndromes now. It was just Downs when I had DS in 2012.

Argh, so much to worry about!!

laughingGnomette · 18/11/2015 18:42

Congratulations with the scan picture mrslewis!!

Snowflake16 · 18/11/2015 18:45

nehagarg what a wonderful scan photo, so happy everything went well for you today. I had my scan today, everything is good although my pictures are not has good as yours, it was still fantastic seeing baby moving around.

Congratulations to you also mrslewis

Wonderful news Snowflake!!
We've got a lovely collection of scan pictures on this thread now :)

MollieRos · 18/11/2015 18:55

Ah, lovely scan pictures! I can't wait for mine next week, I'm so impatient.

laughingGnomette · 18/11/2015 18:56

obsessedlex - I hope you have a lovely time in Venice! Its such a beautiful city. I think our bean may have been conceived there as we visited in September Blush sorry TMI!! Grin

MagicDucky · 18/11/2015 19:05

Congratulations ladies! I'm super envious of you all!! I can't wait for mine!

obsessedlex · 18/11/2015 19:18

Awe Gnome that's not TMI that's lovely!
It is an amazing city, I've been lucky enough to have been quite a few times as my mum has a tiny little attic studio there that she rents out. As it happens this time we are overlapping my mum and dad for lunch on Friday

GrubbyWindows · 18/11/2015 19:20

betty it sounds like you have an unusually clued up midwife! The way that downs testing is totally routine and usually undiscussed is a big issue in the disability rights community- understandably people with downs don't like being automatically screened out of the population!

We refused the test last time, and had a hard time with the scanning department as a result. The patau and Edwards tests are meant to be separate (ie, you can do the edwards and patau part and skip the downs) so we are going to try to do that this time, as they are largely incompatible with life, whereas downs can actually have a huge spectrum of outcomes. Not sure how that will go down! The scanning dept midwife is meant to be attending our scan to help the scanning team remember that it is the woman's choice whether to have tests or not...

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 18/11/2015 19:23

Such lovely scan pictures today. Such a happy time, well done ladies. X

mrsmugoo · 18/11/2015 19:57

I think I would want to know for certain just to prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally so if the NT did come back as high risk we would probably pay for the harmony test.

nehagarg · 18/11/2015 19:59

So happy that all went well snowflake - loving the scan picture. In my case, my DH always takes a picture of the ultrasound screen. The printed version is somehow not as good. Though he did get told off because taking pictures was not allowed. The OB then took pity at his face and laughed and ended up letting him take pictures.

That said, love your scan picture. Super exciting milestone past. Do you have a feeling either way that it might be a boy or girl?

Btw, I have lost my own bet. We have had our scans before the thread ended. Grin

Thanks Grubby and others for your thoughts. I had forgotten it tests for the other things as well. Got a few weeks to think about it.

dollydaydream84 · 18/11/2015 20:43

I can't keep up with the thread today sorry ladies! Fantastic pictures one and all, they are so cute and clear. I am excited now! 3 weeks 2 days to go until 12 week scan :) So good to see good news.

I wondered about the nuchal test too. Last time we said no as it wouldn't have made a difference to us. It wouldn't make a difference this time either, I wouldn't have an amnio. However, would it be better to know in advance? Edward's syndrome I know a lot about having followed the amazing charity Emily's Star for a couple of years, it has also opened my eyes to babies born with mosaic Edward's who have a better chance of surviving with less problems than full Edward's. I know it is quite rare but I think I would have to let the pregnancy progress - so the question remains, is it worth being tested? I just don't know! I would worry more if there was a chance of something being wrong but if I knew about it would they monitor me more and therefore might have a better outcome for the baby for example? I don't know the answers. Maybe one to talk over with the midwife on the day.

mrslewis2015 · 18/11/2015 20:51

Congratulations snowflake! Lovely to see your pic!

Thank you everyone for your kind words, we are having a very happy evening, and actually letting ourselves get excited! Can't wait for our 12 week to see how our little chameleon (excuse the odd name... it was that size a while ago on the ovia app and it's stuck!) has grown!

Belleboo23 · 18/11/2015 20:54

My midwife told me they are trying to make the harmony test available on the nhs, won't be soon enough for us but it's about time they progressed from the amnio. I wouldn't have that done couldn't risk it

Snowflake16 · 18/11/2015 21:05

nehagarg I'm thinking it's maybe a girl, but DH, my sister and mum keep calling it a boy. I'm not to bothered though, all I want is s/he to be healthy. Have you any thoughts on what you're having?

nehagarg · 18/11/2015 21:58

How exciting mrslewis. So happy for you. Smile

Snowflake - I feel mine is a girl too. But same as you, dont care boy or girl as long as he/she is healthy. Smile Will be very exciting to find out though. It wont be real for me until I find out how to address it. Smile

Last time i thought i was having a girl and found out at the 20 week scan he was a boy. But the wedding ring test predicted a boy! Grin

MindfulBear · 18/11/2015 22:45

evening! cannot keep up with this thread but congrats one on all with good news and scan pics.

well we are definitely expecting. We saw the gynae here (overseas so its different to the UK) and he did a scan even though i was only 9 weeks. I Was quite shocked - I havent felt pg so did wonder if there would be anything there!!!! However there is. Only 1 (phew!)
I wish the receptionist had warned me that it would be a vaginal scan though - was not expecting that.
as last time I could not see a thing. DH and the gynae were umming and ahing at the screen but all i could see were grey lines and blobs. its like watching one of those pictures where you have to look through the blur to find another picture!!!!

We were offered the (outrageously expensive) panorama blood test as there are not enough scanning places here (almost 3rd world) so we would not have got in to a unit for a scan in time to check the nuchal fold etc. The Panorama test is sent to the US and screens the mothers blood for the dna of the foetus and then runs checks against numerous abnormalities. I also noted that the form asked for the gender to be assessed but I dont want to know until s/he is born. Not sure how the gynae is going to treat that news. anyone else been through this?

we have decided to keep the secret a little longer, at least until the test results come back, or possibly until we move back to the UK in the new year. Career wise this baby is bad timing and I dont want to have that conversation over and over again with different people - head in sand best preferred!!

I did see my beauty therapist/healer/masseuse lady today and she already knew (or so she says) from when i saw her a few weeks ago to do some stress busting work. She reckons this one is a girl..... I dont know and dont care tbh!!!

night all and i hope the sickness is declining. I am feeling a little better but still very very tired.
