Hi all, haven't been on for a while as we've been away- lovely to see all the scan news, and hello to newbies!

I had 16 week midwife appointment yesterday (I'm 17+5) and heard heartbeat which was lovely... then had some brown spotting last night, so very little sleep, lots of stress and a 3 hour wait at hospital this morning for anti-d as I'm O-neg! The midwives think all is ok (baby hb of 157 this morning) and possibly a minor UTI, but have sent me home til my scan on 2nd Oct. No idea how I'm going to wait that long, or where the blood came from!

Troika · 15/09/2015 13:29

Lots of lovely scan news Smile
Ours is next week, I'm really nervous about it. Maybe because of the bad news we had following the 12 week one.

Sympathies to all those suffering insomnia. I suffer anyway but being pregnant is much worse. I generally sleep for 2-3 hours at the beginning of the night then toss and turn for the rest of it, dozing a couple of times if I'm lucky.

Movements for me were fluttering at 12 weeks, but are now more rolling/ tumbling movements along with jabs and pokes.

JoPo01 · 15/09/2015 14:13

Hi all - please may I join? :)
17 weeks today - due around 23rd Feb - first baby (and quite anxious)!

I'm sure i felt butterflies for the first time 2 days ago but nothing since...hoping to feel them again soon :)

Does anyone know of any good websites for second hand bits n bobs? I'm after a Snuggle Moses basket?

jellypi3 · 15/09/2015 14:24

welcome jo and congrats. Have you tried the NCT Nearly New Sales? They are meant to be good for second hand bits and bobs.

JoPo01 · 15/09/2015 14:52

hello
Great idea - thank you - I have actually joined NCT as a member and did wonder what it entailed...as well as the classes. I've got so much to learn!

CalypsoLilt · 15/09/2015 16:09

hi JoPo I use gumtree and eBay for all my second hand baby bits :)

congrats on your pregnancy Flowers

CalypsoLilt · 15/09/2015 16:19

I'm so hungry today I feel tearful and angry......anyone else?

Also, what's the deal with the MN app? Will it ever work again?

RattyCatty · 15/09/2015 16:21

monk I'm glad you got checked out - I'm sure it will be ok - the 2nd will be here before you know it!

troika I'm very anxious about my scan next week too. I have a worry that something isn't right & can't shake my 'high end of normal' NT measure worry. Just want it to be over & done with so I'll know.

Welcome newbies!

MaisieDotes · 15/09/2015 18:14

calypso no it's out of service since hacker/jeffreygate.

They are working on a new one but I don't know when it will be up and running.

CarShare · 15/09/2015 19:33

banana now I can feel her move she really does go for it so hopefully you'll be noticing your bump wriggle soon. I'm due 5th Feb and only really starting feeling her about a wk ago.

Quick recommendation for Boots maternity tights if anyone needs any. They do the job well and currently on buy one get one half price (although still bloody expensive!).

Hope everyone who feels rough or insomniac (or both!) feels better soon

BadgieBear · 15/09/2015 19:40

Hello everyone and congrats to all with exciting scan news and those feeling lots of movements (anterior
placenta jealousy over here!) Smile

Rubbish to hear so many struggling with insomnia - I sleep like a log but throw up all the time....anyone want to trade?!?

Good luck to all those off for scans/appts this week!

MayFlowers16 · 15/09/2015 20:00

Evening everyone.

I had my anomaly scan today - everything was fine. The sonographer said it was 'probably a girl'. Hmm, been pondering that one all afternoon! She also said that the placenta is anterior, which explains the early, and now very strong, movements!

Getting so excited now, it's all feeling very real!! So happy to see all the great scan news and pickies, on here and fb.

XingXingFox · 15/09/2015 23:18

Congrats everyone!!

mayflower I've had an anterior placenta both time and have been told that it means reduced and late feeling of movements, what makes you say that? Am slightly alarmed now! Can it mean both?

XingXingFox · 15/09/2015 23:22

monk that sounds really scary!!

I'm also getting really nervous about my scan troika and ratty.

Am thinking of everyone this week, from Facebook it seems there's heaps of scans!! Lovely reading about them all Smile

Troika · 16/09/2015 06:46

Badgie I had the double whammy of vomiting and not sleeping for the first 14 weeks so I think I'll stick with just not sleeping now thanks Grin

Keep getting leg cramps in the night now too, I do remember these from previous pregnancies. At least the restless legs aren't (yet) as bad as they were with them.

Sorry others are also nervous about scans. I think in my previous pregnancies I was just excited to see baby again, and didn't really consider that it was an anomaly scan. Fingers crossed they all go well.

A friend of mine put pictures of her nursery on Facebook yesterday and I was a bit Envy. Until then I'd been feeling good about using all my old stuff but I think there's something quite exciting and special about creating a nursery rather than just sticking a cot (that was 2nd hand for dc1 ten years ago) in the corner of your bedroom. I know it's silly because they don't use the dinky little furniture for long but I think it's just because none of mine have ever had a 'nursery'. It's just semantics I know, they did get bedrooms at some point!

CarShare · 16/09/2015 07:03

troika I have bad nursery envy. We have a small two bed house and can't afford anything bigger unless we move out of london which isn't practical work wise.
I'd love to "do" a nursery but practically it makes sense to have a second bedroom so one of us gets a sleep if the other is up (most likely DH as I hope to breastfeed).
Will just try to remember that the baby's never going to care where her cot is!

RattyCatty · 16/09/2015 07:22

troika I know - the name 'anomaly' scan really makes me anxious.

carshare we are in London too & doing exactly the same as you - need a spare room with a bed in so will just have to put cot in there!

BadgieBear · 16/09/2015 08:43

troika - fair enough, I thought it was polite to offer. I can throw in a red eye where I've burst a blood vessel retching if that helps? Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 16/09/2015 09:13

We're lucky enough to have a third bedroom, but it's just going to be the same cot as for DS, the same double bed (for co-sleeping and so the room can be used for guests) same chair, and the only new thing will be a chest of drawers. We did the same for DS, got a full size, new, wooden chest of drawers on the grounds it will last him his entire childhood/teens/beyond and will suit any room.
We've got some nice rugs, but it's certainly not going to be a nursery as such!

Printed off all the OFSTED reports for local nurseries last night. We've moved since DS, and whilst his place is utterly brilliant and we'd love to send no.2 there, it just doesn't make sense to have them in a different town near where DP works.

We're also getting a new boiler, as the current system is not on demand and the bloody water tank is right over the baby's bedroom to be.

All very practical here! Think I need to go and buy some teeny baby clothes to balance it all out... Grin

monkerina · 16/09/2015 09:17

Badgie, you're so generous Grin

We have so far bought a car seat and a baby thermometer (DH says they were on offer and fit his exacting specifications) and I have knitted a blanket and a cardigan. I fear we may have to get more practical at some point over the next 4 months... Loved the baby lists below!

MaisieDotes · 16/09/2015 10:07

We have a third bedroom but it's already occupied by DS!

DD is in the second bedroom which is a decent size. I'm not sure what we're going to do, but there's talk of renovating the extension downstairs which is currently a junk room home office and putting DD down there. I kind of hate to uproot her from her room though, as it's been her bedroom since we've been in this house and she hates change!

It might suit though as she has her Junior Cert this year (a bit like GCSEs but not as important) so a room downstairs and away from crying babies might be best.

CalypsoLilt · 16/09/2015 10:08

monkerina yay a fellow knitter!!! so far I just have a stack of patterns and yarn but not started anything for baby yet (doing stuff for other babies first)

I'm in a 2 bed maisonette so "nursery" will be doubling as "working from home office" which I'm sure will only last until the baby is born and then OH will HAVE to go to London.

My back is BLOODY killing me, losing sleep with it now and even my brand new ergonomic office chair and desk don't help (company paid for). I think it's time for a new bed (king size, obvs!) and one of those massive preggers pillows? Current bed is 10 years old from Ikea. Any recommendations on beds?

monkerina · 16/09/2015 11:16

Calypso, I have a pile more patterns and yarn- but little bro has begged for an ugly Xmas jumper which must be completed first! Are you on Ravelry? Love seeing baby knits Smile

We bought a standard king size bedframe from Ebay (new!) a couple of years ago and then a Silentnight Berlin 1550 mattress separately from an online company. Most comfortable bed EVER, and much cheaper than going to Bensons etc. DH is gutted that he'll not be in it every night when he needs a good night's sleep and there's overnight feeding going on.

CalypsoLilt · 16/09/2015 12:48

monkerina knitting and ebay? you're a girl after my own heart!

JoPo01 · 16/09/2015 15:35

Just having some issues with boys names...I love names like Felix, Milo, Jasper...I was thinking of Dixon...but not sure if he will get the mickey taken out of him for...phallic references! Any thoughts? This is hard! (oops)
