Names are so difficult. I think we have narrowed it down to a favorite name but I'm sure it will change

jopo I really wouldn't think of that. I went to primary and secondary school with a Dixon family (and actually a boy called Dickon) and the connotation never occurred to us. I think that's quite adult humour, and by the time he's a adult he won't care. I think if you like it go for it!! Dick in itself was really popular until recently, although I don't think Dixon sounds too similar.

haquoi123 · 16/09/2015 19:25

jopo & jelly we've got a name each, both girls (so we'll have to reconsider if it's a boy!). I've fallen in love with my name, DH with his, but we don't really like the other's... Compromise will have to happen at some point!

Sighing · 16/09/2015 19:25

Re IKEA beds. If your frame is good spend on a really bloody good mattress. Really the best thing I own, a truly lush mattress/ topper combination.
Movements are starting to be felt for a week. But being 16 weeks i hope their erratic nature is because there's room in there. But a midwife appointment tomorrow. Hopefully all is still well.
Names! So hard. I really can't focus on any at all!

birdbrain21 · 16/09/2015 20:28

Think we have a short list of names that we both like it's hard though as I habe quite specific boxes that have to be ticked for a name to be right and I work in a primary school so get put off names very easily if I teach a kid with that name whom I didn't find a pleasure to teach if you know what I mean.
Went to buy dd some winter clothes and coat the other day was so hard to not buy loads for the baby as well but I'm trying to be sensible and sort out dds old stuff before we buy any new

Bumpasaurus · 16/09/2015 20:29

Evening all .. Not much sleep happening in this household atm .. Baby likes to wake me up around 3 every morning with a good gymnastics session .. Mixed feelings of happiness and ....aarhhh I need sleep!
Had our scan today and we are in team blue :) Grin
Nursery is now finished and is green and yellow with a loose hungry cattapilar theme!.... Used to be DHs extened classroom .. This has been relocated to various places around our small two bed cottage!

birdbrain21 · 16/09/2015 20:29

Lovely scan news from everyone on here and Facebook so far makes me Grin

RattyCatty · 16/09/2015 21:35

Congratulations bump!

Liltymop · 16/09/2015 21:49

Hello all, great to hear how everyone is doing. I am new to this and due right at the end of Feb so really helpful to read all about what is going to happen to me each week from you all.

I'm a FTM, am 17 weeks and already have serious back pain, not even aches, really strong pain in the centre lower back. Does anyone have any tips for this please? Do I need a pregnancy pillow thing and if so, which one? They're all such different shapes I haven't a clue what to pick!

Totally clueless!

RattyCatty · 17/09/2015 07:24

Welcome lilty! Don't worry, I'm also a FTM and clueless too!

I'd check with your doc or midwife is the pain is very bad, they might be able to refer you to a physio?

Troika · 17/09/2015 07:26

Names are so hard. When I'm not pregnant there are loads of names I think 'oh that's lovely' but when it comes to actually naming my child it's so much harder!

Also have Birdbrain's problem that if I've worked with a child with that name it can put me off!

We kind of have a name at the moment, it's not a name I'd previously considered but heard it when first pregnant and decided I loved it. Dp quite likes it but it's not his usual taste at all so I'm not sure he'll actually let me use it.

MaisieDotes · 17/09/2015 07:35

I have no name. DS's name is one that I liked since I had DD- so basically I kept it for 13 years before using it!

This time round I'm wracking my brains for even a few possibles. DH hates everything I suggest which doesn't help!

CalypsoLilt · 17/09/2015 08:28

I also have horrific back pain lilty at 18 weeks. So far yoga has helped for 24 hours. I've also taken some paracetamol which takes the edge off. I'm going swimming this weekend to see if it helps. Currently investing in a new bed as well.

Names I love which have been vetoed immediately:
Alfonso (shortens to Fonzie!!)
Guido (means "to drive" in Italian apparently, which is odd as it's an Italian name?)
Calypso (ha!)
Mimi (yes, just yes)

:(

So far we've only agreed on ONE girls name and the boys name we liked (Oscar) was binned when it hit the Top 10 in the UK.

CalypsoLilt · 17/09/2015 08:30

sighing my IKEA frame is knackered in the true sense of the word Blush

it used to break every time there was any action, now it just gives up if you try and sleep on it. But then it is 10 years old and it's had at least 4 house moves.

MaisieDotes · 17/09/2015 08:43

calypso I love Alfonso! One of my grandfather's friends was called Alfonso and everyone called him Fonsey Smile

Isn't Guido what they all call each other on Jersey Shore? Not that I, er, watched that crap or anything. Ahem.

What about Gabriele? Or do you want it to end in an o? I love Gabriel but DH says no Sad

I also like Francis but DH says it reminds him of someone he doesn't like. Need to work on that one I think Grin

CalypsoLilt · 17/09/2015 08:53

maisie his surname sort of dictates that it has to end in an A or an O (luckily my name ends in an A!!)

I will keep pushing for Alfonso, maybe try and get his mother on my side?!

Rufus200 · 17/09/2015 09:49

I've already got my baby's name, I'm going to announce after my 20 week scan, when know everything is ok.

I made a very stupid mistake a few days ago! The mumsnet book said if you don't feel dizzy lying on your back then there is no problem. I'm getting really bad pain in my hips whenever I sleep on my sides, so not just waking up for wees now but because it hurts so much. So slept for 2 nights happily on my back! Then wondered why my legs were swelling up so badly! I lost all definition on my calves and my skin started to go shiny where it was so overstretched. Turns out that baby compressing your vena cava doesn't just have dizziness as a side effect it stops your legs from draining! Spent all night last night on my sides, can barely walk today my hips hurt so much but I can see my calf muscles again, so the oedema is reducing.

Posey01 · 17/09/2015 10:07

Ah thanks for the reassurance XingXingFox :)

It is very difficult - and I also have a list but none that DH and I both LOVE and agree on - never thought this would be an issue! I hope neither of us have to compromise but at least we all have a good few months left to ponder.

Totally with you there with Oscar CalypsoLilt
Oh no Rufus - hope it clears up soon! I have the same thing and was wondering why...plus i suffer from cankles at the best of time. Oh the joys!

jellypi3 · 17/09/2015 10:17

ouch rufus that's not good! i've found sleeping really difficult, although much better with the dream genii pillow. but i do find myself on my back because as you say sides means painful hips!

Phoenix80 · 17/09/2015 10:25

Morning everyone.

Sleep - my big problem with sleep is getting comfy. I'm usually a back or front sleeper. I'm kind of sleeping on my side but slightly rolling onto my front which is still comfy but I'm scared I'm gonna hurt the baby. I'm waking up almost every hour most nights panicking about how I'm sleeping then I end up over thinking it and can't get back to sleep, aaaargh!!

Names - boys names, we've agreed on 2, Eli or Caleb, but have more that we like. Girls names, no idea lol. We can't agree on any. I like Eden but dh isn't keen.

A week tomorrow for my scan (25th) I can't wait. Great news on all the scans that have already been done Smile

MaisieDotes · 17/09/2015 10:57

God rufus you're having a time of it Sad

For my part (TMI ALERT!!!), I have a beautiful slight vaginal prolapse which first came to light after DS's long back to back labour, but went away at some point in the post-natal period.

Well I was walking with the buggy a few days ago and I thought, oh no my tampon's coming out- wait, I'm not using a tampon Shock Shock

Prolapse is back! It is quite slight for now but God knows what's going to happen later in the pregnancy or after the birth. I spent last night googling vaginoplasty Sad Sad

I might be overreacting a bit. I have been keigel-ing non-stop since realising, hopefully that will help a bit.

I'm so glamorous.

CalypsoLilt · 17/09/2015 11:05

I find sleeping with a pillow either between my legs or top leg resting on it (recovery position) really helps pelvic/hip pain.

Sighing · 17/09/2015 13:22

Calypso: do get yourself a great mattress!
& I'm also a recovery position sleeper. Really keeps my knees and hips from aching.
I've seen the midwife today, heard the heartbeat. The poking of the probe seemed particularly irritating to the baby who was wriggling and kicking like crazy (right where the probe was). Reassuring, but I feel a little tender on that spot now!

CalypsoLilt · 17/09/2015 13:48

sighing i'm planning on going all out and happy to spend £1k on something epic, massive and comfortable (frame and mattress).... OH not so keen...... might just treat myself to it anyway, feel like i've put up with a shitty small bed for long enough ;)

Happytimes2 · 17/09/2015 20:14

Beds are so relevant to me at the moment. We are going to dismantle our bed tomorrow and move the divan in from the spare room. Our bed is very broke and has been propped on wood and boxes for a while. It has meant a hole load of sorting as we are not very tidy!
Names I refuse to talk about until after 20w scan but think I know which ones I want anyway. I love traditional but can b abbreviated if wanted.
Also just wanted to say hi again as have been a bit quiet lots of general life things going on and work!
