Congrats birdbrain, that's wonderful news!

Sleepingbunnies · 10/09/2015 19:17

Can I join?! Due 19th Feb :)

haquoi123 · 10/09/2015 19:25

Welcome sleeping! Your blame rings a bell, have we met on a ttc thread??

clumsypots · 10/09/2015 20:03

Hi to all the new people.

Congratulations birdbrain that's great news!

Had my 16 week check today (a little late at 17weeks) and heard the heart beat even though baby tried to run away from the midwife! Did anyone else have to take their sample home with them? I was very confused when they gave it back to me.

RattyCatty · 10/09/2015 20:27

You had to take your pot of wee home clumsy?! To do what with?! I'm confused!

Welcome bunnies

Phoenix80 · 10/09/2015 20:32

I remember from my last 2 pregnancys that they gave me my pot of wee back and midwife did this time at my 16week appointment. The hospital never do but midwife does. I've never asked why Confused

Phoenix80 · 10/09/2015 20:36

Congrats on your baby girl Birdbrain. I know what you mean - I've got 2 boys already and people keep saying 'oh bet you want a girl?' But tbh I'm not bothered either way but, like you, I'm leaning towards what I already know Smile

MayFlowers16 · 10/09/2015 20:52

Welcome sleeping Smile

Congratulations Birdbrain . I understand what you mean about peoples' responses about you having another girl. I have a dd already and will hopefully find out next week whether we're having a boy this time or another girl. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit disappointed if she is a girl. In fact, if I was actually made to choose I would probably opt for another girl. We have all the things we need and I feel like I know what I am doing with girls now! That said, a boy would be fab too.

Ratty I think the urine sample is to check for things like protein/water infections etc.

MayFlowers16 · 10/09/2015 20:53

Oops, sorry, just read clumsy's post again. No idea why you would be asked to take it home!

clumsypots · 10/09/2015 21:08

She said it was so I could dispose of it and use the pot again...I didn't want to carry wee in my handbag back to work and on the school run. What do I wash the pot with to use it again?

MayFlowers16 · 10/09/2015 21:12

I wondered if she was expecting you to re-use it. I suppose just wash it in hot, soapy water. If you don't fancy that, pharmacies sell them for about 50p.

Rufus200 · 10/09/2015 21:59

Today I could barely get my bra done up round my back and it has left really deep marks under my boobs and on my back but it still fits my boobs. Just found bra extenders on eBay for under £2 for 3. Hopefully they will extend the fit of my bras for a bit longer.

birdbrain21 · 10/09/2015 22:54

Clumsy was it a community midwife? Mine does that as well because the centre they do the antenatal clinic in doesn't have medical waste bins so they can't throw it away ( health and safety nonsense! ) but it doesn't matter what you throw in the bin at home Hmm

MaisieDotes · 11/09/2015 07:28

rufus the bra extenders can work but just make sure the underwire of your bra isn't cutting into the outer side of your boob.

With DD my ribs really expanded and I ended up in a 40 band (from a 32) but with DS I only went to a 34. Maybe because I was carrying higher with DD? I haven't had any change to my band size yet this time either although cup size has gone up!

Sleepingbunnies · 11/09/2015 07:50

haquoi hello! Yes.. Was TTC for a year and finally got the result we wanted! Grin

jellypi3 · 11/09/2015 08:02

clumsy i had to take mine home and she said to reuse the pot!! random!

can't wait for my scan on monday. my scanxiety is much less this time round :)

haquoi123 · 11/09/2015 08:06

Oh congratulations sleeping, I'm so pleased for you! I've been wondering how the others got on as well.

rufus I wear crop top bras as bra fitters always put me in ones that are too tight, but I'm reduced to wearing my oldest, loosest ones. I think I need to go and get a size up... My arse has definitely expanded as well, but I don't know about putting on weight as scales are banned in my house. I was a little disappointed the midwives didn't weigh me actually, I'm curious!

NorthernChinchilla · 11/09/2015 08:24

Yep, had to take my wee back with me too, although in my case it was back to work Blush! Had to make very sure that didn't fall out of my bag...
Heard baby's hb, and s/he was leaping around too.

Hello to sleeping and big congratulations on your girl birdbrain Smile

clumsypots · 11/09/2015 09:32

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had to do this. I will wash it out and use it next time.

CarShare · 11/09/2015 10:05

Happy Friday all!
Lovely to hear about the scans and sex reveals! Congratulations to everyone who had their 20 week scan this week. Ours is on Monday- can't wait!
Here's the list I mentioned earlier in the week- composed by my sister just after she had her second. Def a few non essentials creeping in further down the list but it was nice to get a couple of ideas about what I might need/want early doors.

Cotbed/Moses basket- whatever you want the baby to sleep in
Mattress and a waterproof mattress protector and fitted sheets (recommend at least 3 sheets)
Changing mat and nappy/wipes holder x2
Bouncer- finds it helps settle newborn
Bath foam/chair
Mobile
Steriliser- may not need it if breastfeeding.
Baby monitor

Travel system - and rain cover - normally comes with it. If you end up getting the type with a lie back seat unit instead of carrycot you will need a foot muff/cosy toes for the colder months.
Car seat- check if you need adaptors to clip it onto your buggy. Also useful to have a mirror so you can see them in the back.
Sleeping bags
Gro-swaddle blankets for newborns
Muslins- at least 6 or 8 plus possibly a big one to clip onto your pram hood as a sunshade/if baby sleeping.
Blankets
Pramsuit
Baby grows
Vests
Cardy??s
Playmat
Nappies - get a couple of big packs of size 1. Matthew was in size 2 by 3 weeks old so recommend don??t buy hundreds but you may need to change 8-10 times daily.
Sudocrem
Wipes- also plain cotton wool pads for washing them in the early weeks
Nappy bags
Baby bubble bath
Bibs - recommend just buy one pack to start with. If you have a baby that is sick a lot you might want ugly plastic backed towelling ones. If your baby isn??t sick much you may not need any until teething/weaning.
Hooded baby towels
Towels for changing mat - we got ours £1 each from wilkos.
Changing bag - most come with a portable change mat
Dummies
Socks ?? you don??t actually need lots as they usually wear babygros with feet
Bottles - Maybe just get one or two if you??re planning to breastfeed as you might not need them/won??t know which ones the baby will like.
Breast pump - I have manual and electric.
Nipple cream - Get Lansinoh
Feeding bras - I would just get 2-3 of the stretchy type that fit multiple cup sizes. As an alternative/as well get some of the feeding vests e.g. from H+M then can wear instead of a bra with a loose top on top.
Feeding tops - Recommend just get a couple as hard to find nice ones and you can use vest/loose top combo
Sling - we have baby bjorn one
Breast pads
Baby hats
Feeding PJ??s/nighty - don??t really need special ones, just something with low neck or button front. Primark were good.
Big fleecy dressing gown
Bottle of calpol
Soft baby sponges for the bath
Ear/ underarm thermometer
Non bio laundry liquid eg Fairy and stain remover. Maybe a bucket for soaking clothes.
Maternity pads - get 3 packs of thick ones and 2-3 packs thin ones
Keep a few pairs of old pants that you don??t mind chucking for the hospital/first few days
Dark coloured bath towel for hospital/early days
sports type water bottle for hospital and feeding at night
tens machine for labour
A multivitamin supplement that contains vitamin D
Rocking chair - nice but not essential - depends whether you have space. It??s easy to feed them on bed/sofa.
Kit for handprints/footprints. Also you might want to get a little box to keep all the special stuff - scan photos, hospital wrist band, handprints, first hair cut etc.
I have a nursing cushion and a nursing cover (got secondhand) but probably not essential.
For your room it??s good to have a bedside light that can easily be reached and isn??t too bright for nighttime feeds.

Bra-wise, most of mine normal ones are too small and digging in all over the shop so I've bought a few of these attractive things:

www.amazon.co.uk/clothing/dp/B00YOW1I9M/ref=sr_1_2?s=clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1441962549&sr=1-2&keywords=belvia+bra

Oh the relief!

Carltonlives · 11/09/2015 11:10

Morning everyone!

Congrats on the girl birdbrain! I feel the same way as you, I have a girl already and most people assume I must really want a boy this time, but actually my daughter is amazing and another girl would be too! 2 weeks til my scan, can't wait!!

Welcome and congrats sleepingbunnies

clumsy I have to take my wee back home too, and I did throughout my last pregnancy. The midwife said it was because of hygiene issues of them pouring it down the sink and you can wash and reuse the pot next time. It's is quite disgusting though, especially when you have somewhere to be straight after and are paranoid that you smell of wee! I didn't know the pots were so cheap in pharmacies, I might get new ones this time.

My boobs haven't changed size much this time, my regular bras feel fine, but in my first pregnancy my ribs expanded a lot and I had to buy all new bras by 12 weeks so I reckon they just never really shrunk back so no need to expand loads this time!

I would definitely also recommend some crop top type bras or sleeping bras without clasps at the back (I had soft ones from m&s that you put over your head) for after baby is born. I needed something at night to hold a breast pad on otherwise the bed would be soaked!

Hope everyone is well. I've been feeling more and more kicks which is lovely. Only 2 weeks til scan can't wait to know what I'm having and have another peek at baby. This is starting to feel really I-can't-back-out-now real!!

Bumpasaurus · 11/09/2015 11:34

Morning ladies, Hope everyone is well and happy weekend to you all!.. those of us in the health service may not get that Friday feeling very often :)

Not much to report here baby is kicking well the last couple of days .. feel like their doing somersaults in there at times. Has to be the best feeling in the world.

Ive found the lists very helpful and similar to my own. We have the nursery finished and firmly staying in the yellow/green camp .. although its so tempting to find out. Scan is wednesday and so looking forward to seeing the little pip again :) 20 weeks now

I am being sent for a diabetes testing early. I'm high risk as type 1 runs in my family and i'm a couple of stone overweight :(. Its a morning in the hospital from what i gather with various testings at different intervals. Has anyone had any previous experience with this?

Very happy with bump atm as its all out front and i havent put any extra weight on anywhere else.....yet! :) .. i think i have an hourglass figure so bump at the mo has added a whole new dimension so my figure!... i think the bump is evening out my backside lol

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 11/09/2015 13:55

DH is now STBXH and I have spent the afternoon so far emailing solicitors for appointments ASAP. Yesterday was my birthday. He's spent the last few weeks emailing me "Ooo another of your presents has just been delivered" "Can't wait to spoil you this year" (Historically I've had NOTHING from him because, apparently, my birthday is too close to his deceased sons birthday and so my birthday cannot be celebrated any more.) This year after being urged by our marriage counsellors at Church, he has harped on and on about my birthday. Guess what I got? Fuck all. Only this time I was actually really excited about my birthday. Because he'd done a huge build up. Sad

Oh and yesterday morning, a letter from his work place arrived asking why he'd been absent from work all week, why he hadn't contacted them and reminding him that it could be classed as gross misconduct and he could be fired. He's spent all week emailing me as if he's at work. He's been dossing about at his loser doley weed smoking mates house Angry all week, whilst inventing possibly the most elaborate set of lies I've ever heard.

Merry fucking Birthday to me.

BananaRaces · 11/09/2015 16:11

Oh TillITook, what absolutely crap behaviour Shock! I'm so sorry. I'm glad you are getting in touch with solicitors, you really do deserve SO much better than this. Can you do something nice for yourself this weekend? Flowers
