yeh I'm slightly concerned as I really don't cope well with life if I don't get 8 hours of sleep :-/

really, really, really planning on the whole "sleep when baby does". screw the house work, right?

MaisieDotes · 09/09/2015 13:54

Grin calypso I've just come from that thread! Some of the stories are terrifying.

I'm lucky to live near enough to town and tesco is only 5 minutes walk away so I think I'll leave the car at home as much as possible in the early months. I'll need the exercise anyway!

MaisieDotes · 09/09/2015 13:58

Oh, just about sleeping when the baby does- I find it quite difficult during the day, but my lifesaver last time was to sleep from about 7pm to 10pm every evening. DH was on baby duty although DS mainly slept during that period anyway.

I found then that no matter how hard the night was, I was basically ok as I'd had a head start on the night's sleep iyswim.

MayFlowers16 · 09/09/2015 13:59

Is anyone else suffering with Restless Legs Syndrome? It's kicked in early this time and it's awful. I'd be so grateful for any tips. so far I've found wearing socks helps Hmm

BananaRaces · 09/09/2015 14:10

May I've heard that a lot of people swear by eating bananas before bed for restless legs. Worth a try anyway!

Maisie, that's a really good tip. I think I will definitely try to do that.

MayFlowers16 · 09/09/2015 14:18

Banana I've heard that too, but I don't like them unfortunately. I wonder if it's the potassium in them, then maybe there is something else similar....

CalypsoLilt · 09/09/2015 14:28

thanks for the tip maisie!

yeh restless legs sigh sigh sigh...... the only thing I've found is not letting myself get over tired? I can feel in the evenings it starting so I go straight to bed.

I had restless arms once on a long haul flight to the States. The poor passenger next to me must've thought I was on some drug fuelled rave come down or something! Grin

haquoi123 · 09/09/2015 14:34

calypso that thread has had me crying with laughter, thank you! I'm also v determined to put DH in charge of the strapping baby into car...

BananaRaces · 09/09/2015 14:45

May could you disguise the banana in some way? Like covering it in chocolate?! Wink

CalypsoLilt · 09/09/2015 16:01

When I was little I would only eat bananas that were green/yellow (never ripe) and mashed with white sugar. What a fussy little tyke.

CalypsoLilt · 09/09/2015 16:04

I laughed so hard at some comments on that thread people in the office were giving me glares Blush ; my favs were babysitter for an empty house and dragging the bin bag thinking it was a dog......oh and feeding the wrong end of the baby! Grin

MaisieDotes · 09/09/2015 16:42

may I find the restless legs get worse if I'm not taking iron (although my iron isn't low).

Spatone sachets are good. And yes, once I feel it coming on in the evening I have to go to bed.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 09/09/2015 19:53

Quinny Buzz Xtra - I can't remember which of us said we'd ordered one, but, which colour did you go for?! They are an excellent pram, had one with DD1 & DD2, black/grey colour, believe it was called Storm, thinking of going for one again in Novel Nile, but don't want it to turn up and be more blue than green?! No shops seem to have that colour in stock!

baby monitor We have a CONI referral coming up at 24 weeks - MW said they'd offer us one of those monitors that goes under the sheet and monitors breathing... DH has already said we'll not be taking it, because you don't hear babies die, they just die. And SIDS babies can't be revived anyway. Sad I think his anxiety will sky rocket anyway and a screechy alarm will not help in anyway. A friend of mine had one after a SIDS death in her family and she said the sodding thing went off every couple of minutes and drove her batshit.

I do have a BT digital monitor in storage from when I had DD2, will be using that again. Although it won't be for about 6 months as baby will be with me/DH more or less 24/7 anyway, house is relatively small so probably won't use it much. (I lived in a huge house when DD2 was born.)

I'm a 4th timer and this is my list/set up:

Cloth nappies (bumGenius newborn, Close Pop In Newborn, Little Lamb Bamboo & Minkee, Close Pop In Bamboo & Minkee)
Cloth wipes (30p flannels from Wilkos, no need for owt flash)
Baby Bits wipes solution (??7.99 and it makes 1000 wipes worth)
Stretchy wrap (I have a Liberty Sling, will also get a Close Caboo)
Crib/mattress/bedding (for the living room)
Cot/mattress/bedding (IKEA Gulliver side carred to our bed)
Swaddle blankets
Grobags
Fleece blankets
MUSLINS MUSLINS ALL THE MUSLINS MUSLINS DID I MENTION MUSLINS
Car seat (Maxi Cosi Pebble)
Nursing vests
Nursing bras
Shirts (for me for layering when feeding)
Front opening pyjamas
LANSINOH LOTS AND LOTS OF LANSINOH
Lansinoh cooling/warming breast pads, they are awesome
Any cheap manual pump, sometimes I have to express off a little to soften the breast so baby can latch, especially in the first few weeks.
Baby vests
Baby grows
Hats
Tights (boy or girl, keeps em warm)
Fleecy jacket
Cardigans

Thats about it I think. Bouncer, play gym/mat etc will come later, didn't get any use out of them before till around 12 weeks onwards.

MayFlowers16 · 09/09/2015 20:17

Thanks maisie I've just been reading about iron levels and RLS.

TillITook I agree you can NEVER have enough muslins! DD was a refluxy baby and we got through loads.

MayFlowers16 · 09/09/2015 20:18

and bibs!

Phoenix80 · 09/09/2015 20:19

I've ordered the Quinny Buzz Xtra. We've gone for the red rumour for no other reason than its suitable for boy or girl and we found the package for a very good price only in that colour Grin We got everything in the photo for ??524.99 (although it has now been reduced to ??499.99) I've seen the novel Nile and would definitely describe it as green more than blue x

Rufus200 · 09/09/2015 21:05

Silver cross has an outlet store in Bradford in case anyone lives near there. Too far away for me. Looks like they do prams and nursery furniture at discounted prices.

jellypi3 · 10/09/2015 08:29

I've been lucky enough to be given a travel system but if I were to buy one it would be the quinny buzz.

20 weeks today :)

Is it worth bothering the midwife about weight loss? I now weigh less than at any point since I got pregnant, I'm not emaciated or anything but was probably nearly 11 st when I got pregnant and now at 19 weeks and about 10 ish with 3 lbs of that having being lost in the past week.

I think it's the not drinking and not really having any appetite (though im making myself eat) that's doing it. But I'm not sure if there could be another reason that would need monitoring

jellypi3 · 10/09/2015 09:16

i wouldn't stress too much zebra, the baby will be getting all it needs from you. It can't hurt to mention it but I wouldn't be surprised if she just says as long as you're taking vitamins you will be fine

Stepawayfromthezebras · 10/09/2015 11:45

Thanks for the reassurance Jelly Smile

I got my first pregnancy nosebleed today - is there anything that doesn't get affected?!

haquoi123 · 10/09/2015 13:03

Gah, zebra those nosebleeds persecuted me for weeks!! I still get a little clots in the morning but luckily nothing free flowing for a while. But it was every other night for a long time! Poor you! I'd mention the pregnancy weight as I think they might keep an eye on it (not worry about it but know to check next time).

I finally bit the bullet and dragged DH maternity shopping today. DH was part of the plan of having to buy something - he wouldn't have been happy journeying to Carlisle with no payoff - and it worked! I now have something to wear and hopefully won't panic every morning!

birdbrain21 · 10/09/2015 17:30

Not caught up on the thread yet. Just back from my 20 week scan all looking well, baby was being really naughty and sonographer was struggling to see everything it kept running away. Stayed still long enough to see it's ankther little girl which I'm super excited about! Also bumped into a lovely lady due 25th of January 2 days before me. I didn't ask but I wonder if you're on here...

RattyCatty · 10/09/2015 18:13

Ah birdbrain so happy for you that scan went well! You must be so happy? A little girl - so exciting!

zebras I too have heard that baby takes what they need but might be worth mentioning it at next visit.

birdbrain21 · 10/09/2015 19:04

Thanks ratty I have a little girl already so most people have said bet you hope it's a boy this time, but actually I love my daughter to bits and think I know what to do with a girl if that makes sense. Would be thrilled either way obviously as long as it's healthy but it's a nice bonus. And now we can decorate dds room, we live in a 2 bedroom flat so have put off doing it incase she had to share with a little brother Wink

Zebra I'm sure your fine if your taking vitamins but the midwives are there for any worries so give them a call if your concerned...
