Good luck Debbsy!

And everyone else.

This is the bit where we all start swopping back and forth on AN threads isn't it.(Due to the vague nature of EDDs!)

Unfortunately, I'll be swopping onto Jan one.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 12:19

Debbsy, the bit of prodding about she did might well be enough to get it going, so don't feel down about the pain, it is doing something.
Sara, I am still in awe, brave brave woman....!!
LA, LOL @ having a sniff (I am never going to live it down am I?!!!) I think, though obviously I am no expert, effacement is one of the dimensions of the cervix shifting a bit, your cervix would normally be described as long, thin and closed, I think effacement changes it to short thin and closed, so although it hasn't actually started to open (dilate) it is having a bit of a wobble - I think!! LOL

I've no idea what is going to happen with the midwife now. When I rang yesterday to cancel yesterdays appointment, I just cancelled it with the receptionist, then the midwife rang back after to ask if I could go in today, and said if I couldn't make it then I was to ring and cancel, and someone would come to the house. So this morning I have rang and cancelled and yet no one has rang about coming out, but, the midwives are only based in our town on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, I know they will be in the next town by now.

I don't think I am ever supposed to get this bloody sweep!

calsworld · 29/11/2006 12:31

Well..after having an hours nap, the contractions seem to have stopped. I've had a shower and some lunch and there are some minor rumblings but no need for the tens at the moment so I'm saving the battery...

DH is popping out for a quick top up shopping trip and when he gets back we'll go for a walk and see if we can get things moving again - can't let 9 hours of painful contractions go no-where!

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 12:35

Cal, I hope for your sake it doesn't all come to nothing, I know how bloody frustrating it can be!!!

OP posts:
calsworld · 29/11/2006 12:47

Thanks NJ - have to say I've thought of you alot during the night and thinking 'bloody hell....six weeks of this?'!

At least my max is only a little over 2 weeks with my edd being this friday.

Things are starting to rumble again, but I think its stalled because I'm sitting doing nothing - mainly coz I'm so tired. I don't want to sleep during the day only to spend another night awake but then again, I don't want to not sleep and have it all start again and not have enough energy to deal with it IYSWIM?

Am v v bored...is that normal ?

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 13:03

Cal, I'd say sleep when you can really, it is better for you to be awake late tonight because you slept during the day, than it is to go into labour with no sleep!

And yes bordom has been a huge part of my life for the last few weeks! I have a choice between being bored, or getting up and doing something, even if it is just clean the kitchen or whatever, but of course when I do clean the kitchen (or whatever) the contractions start, it is a huge catch 22!

Well they have just turned up out of the blue, everything is fine, BP has crept back up a bit, but hardly surprising with whats gone on recently! No sweep, she said she didn't want to do it away from the surgery incase I needed emergency help (???? what could go that wrong? I have the baby??!!!) I think TBH she was in a rush and just wanted to get out asap, when I asked if they wanted a drink she answered for both of them saying no.

Oh well, another appointment booked for next week...

Hello again

Mum says the 'somethings' are happening every half hour now - They are getting a bit more painful if I'm honest - I'm still shy of getting my hopes up. DP rang several times during the last one (I'd left mobile at home and was walking back from shop - with a great deal of support from mum as I could hardly move) - it was as if he knew....

Now it's gone I feel better and for some reason have just enjoyed a bizarre meal of crisps, cheese and entire bunch of grapes - only purchased an hour ago...

Starting to feel a bit tired so may have a nap now. Baby seems to have enjoyed my meal as its moving again.

Look after yourselves girls and good luck.

DebbsyandBibby · 29/11/2006 16:24

not posting much sorry in far too much pain tc all hope everything happens for everyone soon xx

calsworld · 29/11/2006 17:05

Hi guys...well...have had a nap and been for a long walk, the backache is in full swing and have been having contractions pretty much all afternoon, just in very varying strengths. Looks like its going to be another long night.

On the plus side, the replacement birth pool has arrived so now I get to deflate the current one and pump up the new one and hopefully, no floods!

Tens machine is doing a good job so far, I've got the setting on quite low and I'm loving the boost button! Hope it keeps up the good work.

Apart from that, nothing doing...the day has gone SOOO quickly and I seem to have the most enormous appetite - DH is a bit shocked...he's normally at work so doesn't see how much I put away !

Anyway, will keep plodding and trying to rest and stay mobile and maybe both me and Debbsy will produce something soon!

Cal

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 29/11/2006 17:26

hello again

Calsworld - I'm really hungry too - just can't be bothered to prepare anything so eating crap - (don't think I could manage a full meal anyway) have terrible wind and still quite a few 'somethings' don't expect anything to happen but DP insisted I rang the Labour ward and they have invited me in just to check whether a) waters have gone and b) any progress - they are obviously having a quiet night.

Fed up and getting irritable - suppose I better get ready to go to go to hospital again - no hurry and I have insisted that DP has his tea first (otherwise there will be two grumpy people in the room) Mum said she isn't hungry - but then we may not be in there that long.

See ya all later.

LA

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 17:26

Debbsy, has anyone actually checked you? Only reason I ask is because in the early stages it shouldn't hurt that much that you can't type, but when I was induced I went from 6-10cm in literally minutes which nearly fluffing killed me! Midwives parped on about it not hurting that much, until she realised I was pushing whether she liked it or not. Just wondered if either your LO wasn't in the right position (not a big deal, just helpful for you to know which position would suit you labouring in) or if you are dilating a lot quicker than most would expect.
Cal I answered you on the other thread

Good luck LA, let us know as soon as you can, you know we don't like to be kept waiting!

DebbsyandBibby · 29/11/2006 17:55

thanks nj pains are increasing so will start timing.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 18:02

Have you got a TENs machine? Tried hot water bottle, or a warm towel? DP rubbing your back? A warm bath? Even a nice cup of tea can help

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 18:03

...paracetamol?

OP posts:
calsworld · 29/11/2006 18:37

NJ - you are lovely! Debbsy, hope things are progressing OK, some of those suggestions from NJ should help....I 'm not gloating if you haven't got one, but am loving my Tens machine.

DH is just deflating the damaged birth pool and about to start inflating the replacement received today....I'd love to get in now but I don't want to stop anything...if I've even started...but all this can't be for nothing - can it?

We had a little sweep stake about a month ago and DH's guess for arrival date was for tomorrow and a close friend for friday (its her birthday too!) if DH is right we'll never hear the end of it!

When we went for our walk, it was lovely to notice how out of breath I didn't get - and looking forward to more decent sized meals too!!!

Anyway, friend popping round in a minute so best go,

Take care all,
Cal

(will probably be around for much of tonight too if last night was anything to go by so may catch up with you later?

Charleesunnysunsun · 29/11/2006 19:25

Wow some of you really seem not far off now!!!

Debbsy i agree with NJ do get checked if your in alot of pain especially if it was your waters that went before.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 20:04

Looks like I have missed you Debbsy, but good luck!! Thinking of you all xxx
Cal, how are you doing hunny?
Charlee, that was sweet of you

I can't believe that in just 4 hours time I am going to be officially overdue, after nearly 7 weeks of contractions... how bizarre, and damn right infuriating?!!!

OP posts:
saralou100 · 29/11/2006 20:18

has it really been 7 weeks? contact book of records people, see what the record is for longest labour, lol, i'm sure your a contender!!

do you think your little man will ever come out? i bet when he does he's just as stubborn!

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 20:28

It is 7 weeks today I started losing my show (I thought it was something else at the time...) and it will be 7 weeks on Friday since I was sure it was my show and the contractions started.

I am really starting to think it is going to be another two weeks, sat in another hospital on another hospital bed with a drip and someone breaking my waters.

OP posts:
saralou100 · 29/11/2006 20:36

i remember it all well

kinda know how you feel.. minus the contractions of course! my body doesn't appear to be doing anything to prepare itself! 5 days over now! so thhis one is stubborn in it's own little way too!

bored, dp got football on..
