Hi guys - 99.9% sure I've had a show this afternoon! Well, several in fact, one clear, one pink and another clear - this is good yes? (Please say yes?)

harrogatemum · 28/11/2006 17:51

Yes Cal it is good, but I too have been having them since last wed and still nothing!
Good luck

saralou100 · 28/11/2006 18:19

i know whats making me cry, i'm petrified of having the sweep done!! every time i think about it or mention it i burst into tears.. yup, i'm doing it again now!

every time i have an examination down their, it hurts so much... i had treatment on my cervix a few years ago and the pain of that was horrid... when i had my sweep with ds.. well it really wasn't a nice experience for me and left me sobbing for about 10 minutes after.

so what do i do, because i actually want to have it done, (i think) jjust to feel like i'm doing something, and the sweep definitely set my labour off last time... but i'm scared!!

oh god!!!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:21

Sara I don't really know what to say, will you have someone with you when you go for the sweep?

OP posts:
saralou100 · 28/11/2006 18:24

i don't know what to say either

dp will be with me. madwife is gonna come to the house and do it, so i need to arrange for someone to take ds out for half hour cause i really don't want him here... but idon't know what time she is coming at the moment

thiis is one of those irrational fear moments.

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:28

Put your midwife 'in the know' if she isn't already aware of your fears (and it isn't irrational at all) then hopefully she will be as sympathetic as she can be, obviously if at any time you want her to stop then make it very clear you expect her to, have a nice bath already run for you to jump into straight after, and have DP ready with the hugs and comfort.

Remember you don't have to have a sweep, even if you give yourself till the weekend or something?

OP posts:
saralou100 · 28/11/2006 18:34

bollox... gotta go think on this one.

calsworld · 28/11/2006 18:36

Oh Sarahlou, that's sad...to want to have it done but be so worried...I think NJ's suggestion is excellent and agree that you absolutely must tell the midwife of your concerns. Big deep breaths and try to get some extra sleep in the night before so that you are as relaxed as you can be....maybe take time for some extra special pampering from DP before MW arrives?

I know it might be ages yet till my LO makes any moves...but finally, a positive sign! (And I can't possibly go as long as NJ has, 2.5 weeks is the max now before induction but don't want that or my pool will be wasted (until the summer at least!).

TC - DH is home so gonna go give him a hug....

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:44

DH is home I am off as well, Sara, talk about with your DP see what he thinks, he knows you and knows what you would be better doing.

See you all later xxx

yet i don't bat an eyelid at gettng a bikini wax done! having one tomorrow and looking forward to it!

DebbsyandBibby · 28/11/2006 21:08

sara i too will be having a sweep done tomorrow im a bit apprehensive too but just think like i do this could mean you will be holding your lo very shortly.

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 22:12

Cor it must be the day of the sweeps tomorrow Mine is booked in as well!! LOL And Sara, I must admit, I would sooner have a sweep than a wax, even the thought makes me wince!!! You are a brave brave woman!!!

I am still feeling funny, no definite pattern or anything, just feeling heavy and ermmmm.... uncomfortable, but in a different way to what I have done before. My bump has been so tight all over all night, with more tightening every now and then, but not really painful or anything. Something hurts every now and then, but it is such a gradual feeling that by the time I think ow, it has gone again, and I'm not even sure where it was hurting. My back is killing me, but it has done for days so no change there!

I have just realised what it is I am feeling, you know when you are just about to start your period, but before any pain or anything sets in, when you just know it is on it's way? It is that feeling. That is the exact feeling I have, it has been bugging me all evening wondering how to explain/put my finger on it!

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 01:39

Good luck for all the sweeps tomorrow, and to everyone else of course, just incase I don't make it on in time in the morning!

G'night for now though xxx

Hi guys, well...after my show yesterday afternoon I've had bad backache and am having a strong contraction about every hour or so....don't know if this is it or not...but I've got the tens on just in case (it says put it on at very first sign....hope battery lasts!!!) and I can't sleep so thought i'd do a little post...wondered if anyone was around!

Guess not. It is silly o'clock.

Good luck for your sweeps tomorrow, hopefully there will be a good flurry of babies v v soon!

calsworld · 29/11/2006 08:38

Hi...i'm knackered! Had a couple of hours of light dozing in between contractions...they're still quite strong...but not so that I couldn't talk through them if I wanted to, and not regular...DH is working from home today and my replacement birth pool is due this morning.

I hope this isn't some kind of wicked joke coz I just lost virtually a whole nights sleep. Off to rest, although feel like I should be trying to keep active not easy...perhaps if I can get some sleep this morning we'll try for a walk...the dog will appreciate it if nothing else!

Will keep you posted as best I can - keep your fingers crossed for me that it doesn't all go away!

calsworld · 29/11/2006 09:21

Blimey debbsy, we must be synchronised...I woke at 1.30 with first painful contractions....mine are kind of like yours but still going, they don't seem to last very long though and they are much further apart than yours...not sure what that means .

At least your midwife should be able to point you in right direction...mine's on blimin holiday - again!!

DebbsyandBibby · 29/11/2006 09:40

off to see mw now sorry not veryu chatty cal im in far too much pain.xx good luck xx

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 09:54

Morning girls, it is all getting very exciting and fast paced on here now!! Can't wait for the next updates

DS is off school again, he did eat a small beef roll for lunch yesterday and a small bowl of pasta for tea yesterday, but I was still umming and arring if I should let him go back today or not, he seems loads better in himself, still a bit bunged up and coughing like mad, but he has been off the sofa the last day or two, but he gets tired really easily (i.e. he has a wonder round for 5 minutes and then goes back to the sofa for a good hour to get some more energy!) So I have kept him off again, his penillcilan should finish today so I think that and another day of eating (he has already finished his bowl of shreddies which he hasn't touched since he got ill) should have him back on track.

But, this means I am going to have to cancel my midwife appointment again, she did say if I had to cancel it was fine and she would come to the house, so the ante-natal checks will all be done, but I don't know what will happen about the sweep now, she can't very well do it with DS in the same room, and I don't know if it looks bad leaving a 4 year old downstairs on his own while we are up stairs? I know he knows what he is and isn't to do if he is left down here for a bit (while I get ready etc.) and he isn't likely to stray too far from the sofa, and his Ninetendo DS anyway, just don't know if it is the 'done thing' to leave him alone when the midwife is here? Does it look bad? Am I just being a worry wart? LOL

back from midwives im having effacement pains labour should follow gave me internal cervix still closed said that doesnt mean anything and can change very quickly it really really hurt so after having no sleep im going to lie down as still in pain.

saralou100 · 29/11/2006 11:15

i am no longer the hairy beast of canford heath!!

it's all hotting up on here isn't it!! am now convinced i will be the one sat here talking to myself... i've had nothing, no shows, no bh even, no dribbling waters..

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 29/11/2006 11:26

Hi all
Debbsy - what do you mean by 'effacement' I looked it up in my dictionary and it meant 'obliterate' - are you getting medical on us?

Everyone else - sounds like we are all in the same boat, I've had a lot of non-stop aches and pains (exactly like waiting for a period to kick in) and a 'something' each hour - the one at 8.46 was quite painful - the others have been tolerable. I had a little more proof that the gush the other day could be waters - because after one of the 'somethings' (I daren't say contractions) my perfectly clean pad (I have had no discharge or anything) was damp with almost clear fluid which smelled very very sweet - not a smell I'm used (NJ - I didn't get anyone else to sniff it - not just yet) - apparently that is what the 'liquor' or whatever they call is supposed to smell like. Anyhow still on the waiting game - I'm getting bored now. On a good note - slept for over three hours solid last night! Lying on my side relieved the pressure from my bladder - I also took care not to eat or drink anything after 9pm.

All the best - LA

saralou100 · 29/11/2006 11:44

forgot to say, nj, i'm sure your ds will be fine on his own for 5 mins... the actual sweep doesn't take long and the madwife can do everything else downstairs!
