Lots of us at home today - me too, prebooked annual leave although actually feeling like a human being (more so) for the first time in a few days.

Poe - where are you? When did you get referred? I'm anxiously awaiting scan and booking appt date but can't complain as literally only referred in last week. I just want a date so I have something to aim for! 8 weeks today though and husband reading me statistics on viability last night. Bless.

This was after the comment re. Needing to be careful I don't put too much additional weight on though... Angry I'm 5'10" and a small 10 - a little harsh to be judging when I'm still fitting in my jeans!!

kep1979 · 15/06/2015 10:55

Hi all,

Well I made it to work but now sat at my desk feeling yucky and very very tired. Joey I don't envy you a long haul flight at the moment!

I still haven't heard from the midwife. The EPU midwife did tell me that I was definitely in the system, and if I hadn't heard anything by the end of the week to call the antenatal clinic number - I may give it until Wednesday and then do just that.

This time week I have scan and harmony bloods taken - I'll be 10+2. And hoping I feel better then. I just need to sleep.

This week is going to be crazy at work - big deadline on Friday then next week may be a little quieter.... so just got to make it through this week. I may have to work from home one of the days!

Lookingforadvice123 · 15/06/2015 11:00

manatee have another scan if you can? I had two private, one at 8+3 (because of my spotting) and then one at 10+3. Worth every penny to see that bean (more like a fig now!) is growing as it should.

Those of you who are having your scans before 12 weeks, are you going to wait until you are 12 weeks to announce to everyone, or will you tell everyone straight away? Was thinking about this the other day as a friend had to have hers at 10 weeks ish as she would be away for the 12 week, but told everyone when she was 12 weeks dead on even though she didn't have another scan. That would be like me telling everyone next Monday (as I had a scan at 10+3) even though my scan isn't until a week Thursday! Obviously we're going to wait until the proper 12 week one!

fishermanswife1 · 15/06/2015 11:30

We would tell family etc after the scan as its 11+5, so only a couple of days early. But as it turns out we won't be telling them until I'm 13+4 because I go away with work right after my scan. So telling folk when I get back as we've agreed we want to tell them in person.

It's not too bad waiting as our parents already know, but can't wait to tell grandparents and siblings etc

fishermanswife1 · 15/06/2015 11:33

Any body working from home today actually managing to get anything done?

I have a 4 hour teleconference after lunch which will be tiring - though at least I'm free to look absolute crap. But really struggling with tiredness this morning. Definitely over did it at the weekend

Lilliana · 15/06/2015 12:00

I'm off for booking in now. My only concern is getting the dates right for the scan. Do they do tests during the 12 week scan that need you to be within certain dates? I thought they did but one doc said no, the nt is done at 20 weeks. Anyway not expecting mc much but hope we can come to some agreement (or even better get an early scan Wink)

Lilliana · 15/06/2015 12:01

Not sure where a random 'mc' in there came from!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 15/06/2015 12:13

Liliana for nuchal scan you need to be 11+3 to 13 weeks I think, your MW Will know. I'm slightly concerned about the doc who thought it was 20 weeks though, he's wrong ( though he's thinking about the anomaly scan at 20 weeks, just the wrong type of anomaly!)

Blackandwhitecat3 · 15/06/2015 12:14

fishermans I have not managed to get any work done, no, except answer a few emails. The horizontal position is essential to me today!

OTheHugeManatee · 15/06/2015 12:20

Looking I suppose I could have another scan, but it's £80 and a bit of a drive, and my 12 week scan is only 2 weeks on Wednesday! So it just seems rather a faff and expense when a) it's not going to make any difference to anything and b) it's just to calm my neurotic fretting Wink

I'm at work and being modestly productive. The last couple of weeks have been mercifully quiet, which has meant - for me - a lot of very horizontal working from home Grin It will pick up again quite soon, just by the nature of the project I'm working on, but that's OK because I'll be into the 2nd trimester by the time things get busy.

Manatee I'm sure you're fine. Apparently not everyone gets nausea or sickness. You're very tired and quite anxious - those are both pretty strong pregnancy symptoms, and you've had no bleeding?

EdgarAllenPoe · 15/06/2015 12:38

Pug I referred myself at 5 weeks, but they told me then and there the midwife wouldn't contact me until week 10. I don't understand why they can't at least book a date, you'd think a little advanced organisation of standard, basic appointments would make life easier for everyone. But no. I'm such a whinger today.

In good news, I still have not puked at all during this pregnancy. I've felt a bit sick, and gone off certain foods and not known what I want to eat, but no actual vomming has occurred. I'm pretty glad of that.

SleepyDragon · 15/06/2015 13:08

coffee i am so glad you said that, i haven't had nausea for a while now, my boobs have stopped aching (apart from the ipples being ultra senstive to a drop in temperature) and no bloating.

feeling decidedly un-pregnant at the moment as the only things i still have is high emotions and tiredness!

SleepyDragon · 15/06/2015 13:11

also, am i the only person not having an early scan or Harmony? Everyone keeps mentioning them and i feel as if i should be doing something rather than just waiting for my 12 week scan on 10 July!! lol

OTheHugeManatee · 15/06/2015 13:14

Blackandwhite - exactly. No bleeding, the odd twangy feeling in my lower belly and when the cat jumps up on me and starts kneading my navel I feel very strange Hmm Plus things seem to have been progressing just fine up until my last scan, and even then I hadn't had much nausea. I'm not generally a very sicky person and that seems to have carried on.TBH I think the chances are pretty good that I'm still just as pregnant as ever, and I don't think I really want to encourage the fretting, especially as it's not going to make any difference to the outcome.

Edgar In your shoes I'd be mightily pissed off too. It's such a vulnerable time, and I think wanting appointments and things fixed is as much about wanting to know the support is there as there actually being anything specific that needs doing.

If you just want some reassurance you could always book yourself for a private scan? (If you haven't already done that.)

OTheHugeManatee · 15/06/2015 13:17

Sleepy I had a couple of early scans, because of a bleed and ectopic scare at 5wks, but I'm not doing Harmony. It's a large amount of money and tbh after a bit of soul-searching I've concluded that even a 100% diagnosis of Down's would not make me abort, so there's not much point except to find out the sex of the baby a bit earlier than usual.

fishermanswife1 · 15/06/2015 13:20

sleepy No I'm on the big standard path. Booking app then 12 week scan next week.

I know what you mean. We thought about an early scan briefly, but decided it wasn't for us. I struggle with ocd anyway and this pregnancy is really causing it to kick off. Haven't managed my ocd for years I recognise if I start to feed my anxiety it can make it worse and I don't need to develop any more compulsive behaviours. That's just my personal way of preventing getting bad and its different for everyone. I would have an early scan if I was having any problems I.e. bleeding etc

fishermanswife1 · 15/06/2015 13:21

Having managed my ocd for years....

SleepyDragon · 15/06/2015 13:24

Hi Manatee we're of the same opinion with Harmony, i would keep the bubba either way so its a waste of money as far as i (presonally) am concerned.

thanks for explaining your reason for early scan too, glad everything turned out ok from it!

Yokyil · 15/06/2015 13:24

b&w we don't have a 12 weeks scan here we have one at 10 weeks. With changing my dates tho meant I was 11 weeks at scan & I'll be 12 weeks this Friday Grin but only problem is it's such a big wait til the next scan at 20 weeks - seems so far off! Felt awful yesterday - lay on sofa most of the afternoon, had a chip buttie for dinner (I'm so healthy at the minute Hmm ) had a little afternoon nap, then couldn't sleep last night Confused

lilyb84 · 15/06/2015 13:24

I'm not even pretending to work right now fishermans, been asleep for the last hour and a half after crying for most of the morning so far Grin Have also managed a couple of emails but c'est tout.

sleepy, I'm not doing an early scan as don't have that kind of money and don't even know what Harmony is so you're not the only one!

Also don't have any big announcement planned for the 12 week point - all the family I want to know already do, and friends I'll tell as and when I see them after the scan. I've got a family wedding a couple of weeks after the scan when I'll be around 12/13 weeks so will see how I feel then but don't really want to make the day about me so might do a few texts/letters after that...

lilyb84 · 15/06/2015 13:34

... I should add that I've been lucky enough not to go through any previous mc or have any bleeding etc, otherwise I likely would have an early scan. Sorry, realised my last message sounded a bit dismissive and wasn't meant to be!

EdgarAllenPoe · 15/06/2015 14:18

No private scans for me either. Partly I need to save the money. But also while I understand it's reassuring for some, it doesn't really change any outcome, since there's not a lot they can do if you discovered a problem at 8 weeks. I would probably wind myself up more if the scan were inconclusive because of how early it was. It's my first pregnancy so I've no history of anything untoward. I imagine I'd feel differently if I'd had a miscarriage before.

Of course I didn't expect my local NHS to be quite this sluggish in getting the antenatal ball rolling, naive as I am. That brings on a whole new level of why should I pay for a private scan to reassure myself, just because they haven't even sorted booking in yet and I'm entitled to a scan in 2 weeks anyway. If I get to 11 weeks and I haven't heard, I will be marching down to my GP office and having a public, pregnant, hormonal hissy fit. I'm sure that'll speed things up some. I pay my taxes ...grumble, grumble, rant, etc...

Blackandwhitecat3 · 15/06/2015 14:19

Oh Lily I felt like having a massive cry about an hour ago, feel fine now though Wink. Had a big sleep instead.

[sleepy] I had a scan at 6 weeks because a scare with some spotting and another at 7 weeks because we had IVF and the clinic scan you at that point. If we hadn't needed/had those scans we would have just waited for the 12 week (but jolly glad I had them!). We're not planning on harmony unless we get a high risk from nf, but we'll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.

mrschatty · 15/06/2015 14:19

sleepy I only had the scan yesterday because my '12wk' scan ill be closer to 14 and have my holiday in between then so just wanted some reassurance. Not having harmony I'm only 25 my risk is (touching wood) low just standard nhs test at the 2 screening scans- we have decided to go back to baby bond later in pg though again as really enjoyed the experience. Hope everyone is ok...I just eat a freshly made prawn sandwich at the office cafe is that dicey?
