November 2015 ladies! Time to feel the glow!

Are you expecting a babe in November this year? If so, get ready to get glowing. Breaking out in spots, or tears, or both is part of the so called glow. Feeling sick, contemplating births and having the odd good day of eating well is also all glow.

Come on then. Wee in the corner to mark your spot. Have some Brew or Cake or Wine. Then glow.

www.nct.org.uk/

They do antenatal classes and from what I hear they are a really good way to meet local parents at the same stage as you BUT they tend to be very geared towards natural birth, no intervention, etc which is great if that's what you're after but I'm not sure it's really me!

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 16:37

Why do you have to pay? I thought you got free antenatal classes? :-/

crybaby you can get NHS ones in many areas (including mine) which are free. I sometimes feel like the unspoken implication is that you won't meet as many 'naice' middle class mummies at an NHS class [bleaugh]

I'm undecided though! I don't want to make assumptions so may email my local NCT teacher and try and get a feel for her style Smile

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 16:51

Think I'll be sticking with NHS. Can't afford NCT and I've got a fair few mates that are all due/off the same time as me so I think I'll be fine.

annatha · 21/05/2015 16:52

I don't know if they run things like this everywhere but my local NCT division run a bumps and babies group which is about £1 each week. Keep meaning to go along as I have both bump and baby Grin

flyingsprocket · 21/05/2015 16:55

Just back from my consultant appointment. annatha it's much the same as a midwife appointment, blood pressure, urine, same questions. I actually saw a registrar & he explained why I was medium risk & ordered a few extra tests. I'm excited as I'm getting a consultant led early anomaly scan at 17 weeks in addition to my 20 week one! As it stands my DP won't be able to come along so I'm going to have to not find out the sex until he's there at 20 weeks.

I'm planning to do NCT, a little bit for the education side of things but mainly to meet other mums to be. I don't know anybody around these parts with children! Nobody at last night's prenatal yoga class spoke to each other! We're currently trying to figure out which venue to go to because there's none in our village.

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 17:00

Just a thought.....did anyone's down's test results take longer to come through than originally advised? I was told 2 weeks 2 weeks and 1 day ago.....not concerned as was advised I'd get a call if any issues but just wondering where my results are?! :-/

BowiesJumper · 21/05/2015 17:39

Knit! Welcome!! It was you who said I was pregnant, before I even knew it on the TTC threads, so you're my good omen Wink

I'm balking at paying about £300 for NCT classes too. I know it's a good way to meet people, but that money could be well spent elsewhere, and it annoys me that it's an accepted thing for "middle class" parents to do. Just the concept is annoying. I've told the midwife I'll do the free NHS ones and will take a view on the NCT ones, see if I panic buy or not!!

Lauramum23 · 21/05/2015 17:51

We are so backward round these parts I've never even heard of nct parent classes!!! I'm pretty sure my husband would laugh in my face at spending 300 quid on them! I did the free ones at the hospital but never bothered with them after my first. I don't need to meet pregnant ladies there's about half a dozen pregnant mums in my youngest boys class. God knows where all the prams will go!! Smile

gennibugs · 21/05/2015 17:52

How do you find out about the nhs ones? I'm going to add it to my list of things to ask the midwife!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/05/2015 17:53

Mrsscarlett wow 3 under 1! Thanks for confirming my theory that people just cope.

Knit Fast nct was a bit like that when I was in north London. I didn't do it due to cost but my friend did and she had a similar birth to me (emcs, prem birth, wanted to bf but couldn't) and the teacher wasn't very nice at the reunion. It totally depends on the teacher and class though it seems. I also know women that have loved it.

In terms of free classes there's:
NHS
Children's centre / sure start centre
Local mum Facebook groups are also good where I am
So a few options for cheapskates like me Wink

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 18:11

£300 just to meet other mums! Yea I'll definitely be giving them a miss! That £300 will be spent directly on my child rather than my socialising! I've got all you ladies to talk to and plenty friends in RL that are mummies!

I can't believe that people actually pay £300 for classes like that! Crazy IMO!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 21/05/2015 18:31

I didn't do NCT last time as it was too expensive. Won't this time either, although I will pop along to some local twin meetings.

Focusfocus · 21/05/2015 18:34

Not doing nct classes, will do nhs ones.

Might do a local hypnobirthing class though, which is nowhere near as pro eh as the bloody nct ones.

OP posts:
Focusfocus · 21/05/2015 18:36

Pro eh meant pricey

OP posts:
Dixiebell · 21/05/2015 18:51

Ha, have just found out that a friend, who has recently had a baby, has known I'm pregnant for the last month or so - she had a MW appointment and had to make another, as the MW opened up her appointment book, she saw my name in there with 'booking in appointment' next to it! Discreet huh?! She didn't say anything and felt guilty for looking!

Loulabellle123 · 21/05/2015 18:52

Hi everyone. My second post here but my other was a while ago. I've been symptom/feeling comparing. 17 weeks today and I think the sickness may finally be subsiding, thank goodness. Also, got my downs results in a letter as low risk, which is one less thing to worry about. Could someone add me to the stats please?

Loulabellle123, 35, #2 edd 29.10.15

Dixiebell · 21/05/2015 18:52

The funny thing is, I was convinced I'd bump into someone I knew waiting for the MW clinic and was amazed I didn't!

roughtyping · 21/05/2015 18:53

focus lovely that you heard your wee baby's heartbeat!

cryingbabymess were you in glasgow? So jealous!

roughtyping · 21/05/2015 18:55

dixie Shock

My 'weird coincidence' from last pregnancy was going to a new-mum-and-baby breastfeeding support group and bumping into my friend's step mum. I just didn't fit in, at all. Sad was gutted as I really wanted to make some 'mum' friends; she didn't make me feel unwelcome but others were clearly gossiping and a bit sniffy with me.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/05/2015 18:57

Gosh Dixie what are the chances? I'm always paranoid about seeing someone I know in the waiting room, never happened yet though
