November 2015 ladies! Time to feel the glow!

Are you expecting a babe in November this year? If so, get ready to get glowing. Breaking out in spots, or tears, or both is part of the so called glow. Feeling sick, contemplating births and having the odd good day of eating well is also all glow.

Come on then. Wee in the corner to mark your spot. Have some Brew or Cake or Wine. Then glow.

Today I drank the vinegar from the empty jar after finishing off the gherkins. And ate half a bag of those M&S fizzy drinks sweets that someone here put me onto! Blush My mouth is watering just typing this...!

ehealy · 21/05/2015 23:35

I like the sound of Hypnobirthing which is cheaper and the NHS classes would be great just for the medical side. I shall ask my midwife about nhs and a separate visit to the hospital delivery rooms.

annatha · 22/05/2015 00:08

snozzberrypie it's brilliant! He didn't get a discount but it was great when I was pregnant last time, I would text him my weird and wonderful cravings and he would bring them home. And we got first dibs on all the special buys which is why we have a garage full of shite

Lately I'm craving tinned fruit, avocados and cottage cheese with pineapple. DH is disgusted Grin

Lauramum23 · 22/05/2015 06:54

I'm glad aldi has improved so much now and it's more acceptable to shop there. I've been shopping there for years now I just couldn't afford morrisons or tesco anymore. plus we have a farm foods right next door to our aldi which is fab for branded stuff. And the nappies and wipes well they are fab now, I tried them with my other children but they weren't good enough then so I've always used pampers. But everyone raves about them now so ill defo use them. We still use wipes in this house! Will I ever stop buying them!?
I think ill buy the Hauck bouncer as most stuff will be hand me downs so I want something new GrinGrin
I'm gonna have a trolley fullSmile

rebbles · 22/05/2015 07:00

This sounds good I have never been to aldi! When is the baby event? Is anyone going to stock up on nappies? If so what size are you getting! No idea!Confused

Lauramum23 · 22/05/2015 07:00

Oh and p.s I'm also craving sweets! Fruit pastilles, fizzy dummies, wham bars. Pickled onions would be so much better for me!

Oh and p.p.s just had a fab dream about James Bond! He kept turning into my other half as well which was weird!? Think I'm getting a bit frisky at the moment which will please my bloke!! I've been well off it up till now !

Lauramum23 · 22/05/2015 07:03

Rebbles get yer self to aldi!! Next Thursday is baby event but if you look online at website you will see what they have. I suppose I better start buying nappies soon !? Size wise errrrmmm one of the ladies with young ones will guide us on quantity I can't really remember Confused

cryingbabymess · 22/05/2015 07:29

I've put a reminder in my phone for next Thursday to go to Aldi! I want the Tomee Tipee bottles....will be my first purchase!! Grin Going to look at other things too. My friend says she's going to buy us a bouncer so will direct her to Aldi. She uses the Aldi nappies and wipes as it is! If it's good enough for her it's good enough for me!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 22/05/2015 08:31

I wouldn't get heaps of nappies as they race through size 1 and 2. DS spent longer in size 3 and ages in size 4. I think size 1 is something like 4lb to 11lb which covers most babies at birth.
This is a great website www.bumdeal.co.uk price comparison for nappies
I just use any brand, I've found Sainsburys and Asda to be good. Bizarrely we seem to get the leaks with the expensive ones!

annatha · 22/05/2015 08:34

Nappy wise, I wouldn't go too mad on newborn ones, we were given lots and we've got a pack and a half in a cupboard leftover. dd was in them about a month I think, whereas some babies are born too big for them already and premmies would need smaller ones. I'm stocking up on size 3s as she's been in them since Feb and shows no sign of growing out of them yet. And wipes! Works out at about 50p a pack if you get a box. They have an event every few months (I think all supermarkets do) so its good because you can buy whatever baby needs at each stage- last time for us I grabbed a load of weaning stuff and now its toys and a baby jail travel cot.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 22/05/2015 08:43

Hello all,

Can I join the party? I'm not usually to good at keeping up with these threads but am also due November.
I'm in France and this is dc2. Feel so much calmer this time after having already been through the French system once before and my language has improved greatly.

I'm around 16 weeks (I think, I loose track!) and have been given Nov 12 as my due date although they give you a 41 week due date here.

I hope you are all starting to feel the joys of the first trimester wearing off.... I'm
Definitely feeling much better but still a bit sick and my 2 year old is pretty damn tiring!!!!

mrswishywashy · 22/05/2015 08:51

Eeek, can't imagine buying stuff now. Although I have my list ready and have most of my equipment picked out. We are not going crazy as I don't like waste so don't want every piece of baby equipment out there. Likely will hold off buying anything until after 24 weeks.

For nappies I agree with above posters don't get to many of the smaller sizes. Probably two of the newborn size and then see how big your baby is. Can load up on threes as I agree they tend to me in them longest and fives as well. Size ones and twos usually by three months they are out of them.

A bit gross just been to loo and when I've wiped there was some jelly like stuff on the loo roll with dark blood streaks. Am hoping it's just natural and my body keeping itself clean. Will double check with midwife on Tuesday.

mrsscarlettbutler · 22/05/2015 09:55

Gosh I literally have no idea where to start when it comes to buying things. Have a tendency to go a bit mad and stock up excessively on things like washing powder and loo roll so am a bit worried I might be tempted to do the same on baby things but then not need loads of it! Think we'll wait until after 24 weeks to even start thinking about things. But how on earth do you know where to start?! how many clothes do I buy, how do I know what size?! It's all a bit daunting.

16 week appointment yesterday. Was literally just pee in a cup, blood pressure and booking in next appointments. Got a long lecture about how they dont even attempt to find the heartbeat until after 25 weeks and how apparently NICE guidelines recommend never trying to find it etc. She was all set to hussle me out of the door, but I asked if she'd be able to have a feel and tell my where my uterus is - I still dont feel like I have a bump but do feel a bit fatter. She had a feel and it turns out what I've been desperatley trying to hold in is actually bump Grin as my uterus is almost at my belly button, not still down low as I thought!

She then said 'as you are lying down, shall we have a look and see if we can find the heartbeat.' After all the lecturing!! She found it almost immediately, was so lovely to hear Smile really glad I asked for the examination otherwise that would have been a very pointless feeling appointment.

Lauramum23 · 22/05/2015 10:26

Scarlett why did she bang on and then find it anyway!? Silly woman, at least you heard it tho. I can't remember wether they do it here at 16 weeks or not!?

roughtyping · 22/05/2015 10:26

scarlett that's lovely (in the end!)

We've bought a big box of baby wipes so far. The idea was to buy a bit every week but feel a bit stupid buying stuff without a visible obvious bump?! Won't buy any newborn size nappies as I'm sure my family will buy us them. With DS (many moons ago!) the best ones were tesco and pampers active fit or whatever they were called. We never got on with Huggies which leaked every single time!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 22/05/2015 10:29

I had hardly anything ready due to the surprise early birth so im proof you don't need much. I think just cover the bases at first and get more later:

  • somewhere to sleep
  • some way of getting about e.g. car seat / pram / sling
  • Nappies etc
  • Feeding e.g. breast pads, bottles
  • Clothes, I'd get a few vests and sleepsuits. We were bought loads of clothes and toys

If you are near a chemist or shop I wouldn't worry too much as you can pick up essentials there

I still find clothes size complicated. I needed tiny but people brought that to the hospital so that was fine. I think most babies are in newborn or first size. I stupidly bought 0-3 but it's huge for a newborn!

TakesTwoToTango · 22/05/2015 11:04

And my newborns barely fitted into newborn size at all and we're both in 0-3 in a matter of a week or two!

I'd say for a November baby, get a 5 pack of vests and same of sleep suits in newborn size, plus the same in 0-3 (even if they don't fit a birth they will eventually and if you have a badly timed poonami you will at least have something to put them in), then maybe 4 cardigans/warmer layers and a pramsuit - all in 0-3 for growing room, and a pack of soft bibs in case you get a sicky one so you are not having to change clothes at every puke. Add to that one pack of Muslins , two hats and a couple of sheets and blankets. Then when baby arrives someone can nip to tesco for you and buy another pack of tiny baby/newborn size/0-3 vests and sleep suits as required.

Lauramum23 · 22/05/2015 11:10

Poonami! Like itSmile

Mine were all 7lbs ish so newborn was perfect I wonder if this one will be the same?
Someone's already given me 20 odd vests plus I'd kept some so I won't need to buy 0-3 at all Shock I need somewhere to put them all.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 22/05/2015 11:14

I think TakesTwo has it right on the clothes. You just don't know how big they'll be. The reason I bought 0-3 and actually needed tiny was because DS was measuring big for dates and was predicted to be 10lbs. He probably would've been with another 4-6 weeks cooking time.
The supermarkets have cheap stuff and everywhere is great at exchanging if unworn, although I know a lot of people like to wash everything first which rules that out

DS was, and still is a puker so we ended up getting loads more muslins and sheets than recommended.

A little tip is to make sure you're on the best energy deal - all that extra washing, heating on more etc does add up, especially with a winter baby

Gr33dyeggs · 22/05/2015 11:30

Welcome brioche.
The only things I'm thinking of getting are a moses basket and a bean bag! We still have everything in the loft from 6 years ago! But I'd borrowed a basket. We used reusable nappies mostly and I've found them too. Perhaps need new outers! Will get some disposable for the first week though and that tar stuff....
I'm hoping to breastfeed again. Might get a couple of aptimel cartons in as a back up.
Aarrgghh, I'm beginning to get a bit excited!
I stuck my angelsounds on last night and we got the heartbeat straight away - my 6 yo loves it. Also the gurgling and whooshing sounds too! I think I can feel movements but not regularly or obviously enough for piece of mind yet!

BowiesJumper · 22/05/2015 11:40

Ooo all this talk of buying stuff, exciting!

I emailed my midwives about the notes thing and they said I'd get them at my 20 week scan, so in 4 weeks, even though the appointment letter says to bring them to that... but ok!

Now I'm half regretting not getting the midwife to listen to the heartbeat!

cryingbabymess · 22/05/2015 11:41

Gr33dy I got an angel sounds off my mate but there's no instructions with it....I really want to try it but vaguely have a memory of her saying something about needing to put cream on my stomach first? Help?

Gr33dyeggs · 22/05/2015 11:52

I've been using baby oil crying instructions say it's fine. Try about an inch or 2 below your tummy button - midwife found it there as did I.

annatha · 22/05/2015 11:56

crying baby they come with a little tube of gel, I think its just to make it glide across your tummy easily so vasaline or lotion should work fine. With mine you just plug headphones in, press the button to turn it on and push it around until you hear something. Baby's heartbeat will be lots faster than yours and the plancenta makes a weird wooshing sound. Its good to find yours first because then you know which is which.

Re. Clothes- I'd just get a pramsuit/snowsuit and one pack of each long and short sleeved vests. People love buying baby clothes as presents and they usually buy first size/0-3. Once babybis here and you know how big they are and how much stuff you have already, ebay is full of clothes bundles. I got 150 items for £40 and most of it is Next and M&S. Wait till you see what youll be given as presents though...DD was a November baby and owned over 30 vests in 0-3, 18 sleepsuits and too many hats to count. She never wore most of it as she grew out of it so quickly. Now she's in 3-6/6-9 we literally have about a week's worth of clothes.

annatha · 22/05/2015 11:59

Oh and my aunt bought her a beautiful thick winter coat in 6-9... Which should fit perfectly by august Hmm
