November 2015 ladies! Time to feel the glow!

Are you expecting a babe in November this year? If so, get ready to get glowing. Breaking out in spots, or tears, or both is part of the so called glow. Feeling sick, contemplating births and having the odd good day of eating well is also all glow.

Come on then. Wee in the corner to mark your spot. Have some Brew or Cake or Wine. Then glow.

Tour of maternity ward should be free. NCT cost me about £160 last time I think. You don't have to join to do the classes so untick that box and save yourself around £30. Classes were rubbish but my friends are invaluable.
I've just been given iron tablets for anaemia. All else fine. Enjoying telling people. Teacher with half term coming up. Telling work after the holiday.

SnozzberryPie · 21/05/2015 19:03

Hi all,

My scan today went well. The baby was a bit naughty and wouldn't get in the right position so I was sent for a wee halfway through. Then it was being very cute, waving at us and doing somersaults, so all is forgiven.

The nuchal measurement was 1.1mm which I think is pretty good so I'm hopeful for a low risk result despite my age. I should have a call by Wednesday if it's high risk.

Also a bonus was that I weighed less than at booking in. I knew morning sickness had to have some benefits. Wink

Roughtyping yes we were in Glasgow, had floor seats, was awesome! Envy

Is it just my hormones or do I have a right to be a bit miffed at OH....(it's a long one!)

So was away last night and have come home today to Tuesday nights dishes not put past, Wednesday breakfast plates and mugs not washed, (if I cook, he does the dishes and puts past and vice versa) BBQ grill stuff not back in the garage, still sitting on the kitchen work top, kitchen bin still full, I asked him what he did when he got in after work yesterday since I was away and he said that he ate crap (he didn't even cook a meal for himself....he had crisps and biscuits and cheese...!) he then watched pitch perfect, I'm not allowed to watch a "chick flick" with him because he doesn't like them but because 2 of the new guys (who he supervises!) at his work said its hilarious he had to watch it....

Omg I sound like an idiot! The above is really superficial isn't it? Please someone side with me? Confused

rebbles · 21/05/2015 19:31

My NCT one is £205. Is it worth it? There don't seem to be any free NHS ones do they not exist?

Gr33dyeggs · 21/05/2015 19:33

crying it took 3 weeks to get my results I think. You probably do have a right to be miffed, but I'd be exactly like your OH!

I have an intermittent pain in my left side, worse when I breath in. Any thoughts?

TakesTwoToTango · 21/05/2015 19:35

Yet for all the good scans and nuchal results!

laura it was the exact opposite for me re nct classes! I already intended to do them but as a paranoid and nervous first timer, I wanted all the info and reassurance I could get, plus thought the more potential mum friends I met the better and knew no one locally and was worried about feeling isolated on mat leave. When I asked my midwife about the NHS classes she looked down her nose at me and told me that they were 'not for people like me' and I should pay to do the NCT classes Shock Still not sure what she meant (beyond the obvious that she wasn't going to give me the details and I wasn't welcome!).

SnozzberryPie · 21/05/2015 19:42

Crying I wouldn't let dp dictate what movies I can or can't watch, or do you mean he wont let you watch them when he's there? The rest of it sounds exactly what dp would do, although I would be cross and make him clean it up while I lay on the sofa watching chick flicks!

I forgot to say that my due date was moved to 3rd Dec so maybe I should go and join the December bus?

TwoBeesInTheHive · 21/05/2015 19:46

marking place, 14 weeks today, hello second trimester I'm ready for my glow now Grin

mrswishywashy · 21/05/2015 19:46

We are not doing NCT classes. Have worked with plenty of new mums who did them. It can work for meeting people but in every group there were divisions, cliques and competition. Also many of the mums felt like they failed because they didn't have the "perfect" delivery. That said there is a local bumps and bbs group and you don't have to be a member of NCT to attend so I'll check it out later on.

No idea if our area has NHS classes but if not I might resort to you tube to see some videos.

There is also a company called babynatal that does classes, they seem to hold a more balanced view.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 21/05/2015 19:46

No stay here Snozz! It's only an estimate anyway, realistically you could be 3 weeks before or two weeks after that date!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/05/2015 19:51

Yes stay here Snozzberry I'm an October imposter now and there's no way I'll go overdue

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 19:53

Snozberry not at all! He just doesn't let me watch them while he's there. He would never dictate what I can and cannot watch! I'm coming across as such a b!tch! Also don't leave us, you're more than welcome to stay with us.

cryingbabymess · 21/05/2015 19:59

Since being home I've had about 6 traditional pickle onions mmmmm

Oddicombe37 · 21/05/2015 20:28

crying I'm due on the 11th as well

stickytoffeegirl · 21/05/2015 20:39

Does anyone have any positive NCT stories?! I'm just about to sign up for them, more for the social aspect as none of my friends have babies. I had my 16 week appt today and the midwife was really enthusiastic about them. Also got to hear the baby's heartbeat at the appt which was amazing!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/05/2015 21:07

sticky my SIL loved nct, I think a lot of people do. It's just luck regarding who's on the course though, but she made a good friend.

Bit jealous of all these 16 week appointments where the heartbeat was heard. I'm feeling a bit sorry for 2nd baby, because they're the second no one seems as bothered, midwives included! I'd understand the logic if my 1st pregnancy was normal, but it wasn't. Luckily I can feel movement to reassure me

roughtyping · 21/05/2015 21:23

crying grr at your DH! I would make sure this weekend you watch something really trashy (possibly that you don't even enjoy) to get him back. Hmph!

Crumbelina · 21/05/2015 21:34

Stay here, Snozz. I'm another October imposter.

Oh haiii, indigestion. I was wondering when my next uncomfortable pregnancy symptom would turn up and here it is. It's been awful all day and I've only just finished work. Can't wait to get home and glug Gaviscon. Apparently Love Hearts work really well - who knew?!

Lauramum23 · 21/05/2015 21:41

Crying yes you have a right to be pissed! Whenever my dh makes something in the kitchen every single surface needs to be washed/ wiped as he makes so much mess! I just think don't bother ill do it myself!
But yes he should have at least washed up! Men are well annoying most if the time! But hey without them we wouldn't be knocked upGrin!!

And as for nct I had a brief look at it and literally doesn't exist in this neck of the woods! I knew it wouldn't! Bet it does in feckin York! I sound like a right scrote but I promise I'm not!!! Aww I wish we am were all close by and we could have our own meetings!

Oh and aldi has their baby event on next Thursday some good buys, leggings maternity 6.99 per pair and 6 pack of tommie tippie bottles £7 ( I'll be breast feeding for the first few months but alternating with bottle like I did with others) errrrmmm baby chair bouncer thingy £20 allsorts!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/05/2015 21:56

I'm near an aldi thanks Laura I'd not have thought of looking there

I was in boots today and there's loads of clothes on sale - winter clothes like snowsuits. I've got loads already but I was a bit tempted!

TakesTwoToTango · 21/05/2015 22:02

Sticky, I did them first and second times. Didn't really learn a lot (though DH did - and probably believed it more readily than if it all had gone from me!!). I'm still friends and regularly see both my groups and they are lovely Smile

ch1134 · 21/05/2015 22:06

Yes sticky. Sign up and expect that if you learn anything it's a bonus! Hopefully you'll meet some open-minded people who are up for providing support. I was new to my area when I had my son so I knew no-one at all, and am really glad I met those ladies. I met tones more people on mat leave, but drifted away from most of them when I went back to work. However, I still the NCT bunch, and one of them even childminds my son! She is amazing, and her family all live nearby so I've got to know a lot of people through her. They've been a huge support as my own family live ages away and only see my son a few times a year. They've even invited us on holiday this year! I hope I've been a big support to her too, as she's been through having a very poorly daughter, and is going through IVF now.

annatha · 21/05/2015 22:11

lauramum I was just about to post about the Aldi baby event!

Dh works for Aldi and used to be in store which was mega handy as he did the weekly shop after work. Aldi nappies and wipes are fantastic and v cheap.

We got the exact same bouncer from them last year (the hauck one) and dd loves it. She slept in it more than the moses in the early days and even now prefers it to the all singing all dancing vibrating one we bought from very. Also Aldi muslin cloths are lovely and soft. I'll stop now Blush seriously though, I used to think Aldi was a load of rubbish until he started working there and I'm a complete convert now. He's moved to HQ sadly so I have to do my own shopping now!

SnozzberryPie · 21/05/2015 22:18

Phew thanks all! Crying pickles were my big craving last time, this time I'm all about the haribo sweets Grin

I'm one of the few people i know who didn't do nct classes last time. There were no NHS classes here so I had done no preparation except watch one born every minute Blush. For the birth itself it didn't matter at all as my body took over (well apart from at the end but apparently that was due to dd being in the wrong position so not sure what the nct could have done about that). It would have been nice to know about the different kinds of intervention but I'm told the nct don't really focus on that. It would also have been good to have a bit more information about breastfeeding. I managed to meet other mums just fine through the local bf support group, swimming lessons and other baby groups. You maybe have to make a bit more effort to go and talk to groups of people who already know each other, but for me not doing nct was probably money well saved.

SnozzberryPie · 21/05/2015 22:22

Ooh annatha I'm jealous of your dh working in aldi. We get their nappies and chocolate lots of other things
