Hello everyone, I'm finally jumping in after lurking for a while. I'm due 5th November with DC2. DS1 was born in August 2012 so I'll have quite a big gap. I had a MC at 6 weeks at the end of January, so had no idea of my dates as we got pregnant straight afterwards. Anyway, had an early scan a few weeks ago which dated me at 10 weeks which was a shock. Now 12 week scan isn't until 11th May, when I'll be 14+4.

This is the last list I found - cupcakesam84 I'll add you too. Also, you probably want this acronyms list.

Also, sadly, I think there's some people who would probably need to come off this list. I know I wouldn't want any reminders of what would have been. But I'll let someone else do that.

Bleached you don't really need to start shopping yet, as soon as we announced we were expecting dd we were given so much stuff by friends and family that we hardly needed to buy anything. And it is hard to predict what you will need as all babies have their own preferences: some babies like prams and others like slings; some will sleep in a cot and some will only co sleep; some will weigh 5lb and others 10lb; and so on. I reckon start with the stuff you are given and see how you go.

mrswishywashy · 03/05/2015 17:53

If our twelve week scan is ok on Tuesday then we are going to buy a book each to read to baby. Probably Goodnight Moon for me. The hours are slowly ticking by to scan.

I'm not too worried about equipment. Will get nappies, water wipes, first couple of sizes in baby gros and the onesies. Am hoping grandmothers will knit and crochet blankets, hats, cardigans and booties so baby is warm in winter. New car seat but hope to go to the car seat shop and get an extended rear facing one. Probably ellaroo mei tai. Pram undecided. Am hoping to get a bed side cot. I hope to breast feed with option for expressing and formula if needed so not much needed there. As a maternity nurse I've seen nurserys full of equipment that doesn't get used so I don't want an excess, also as I've used a majority of baby equipment I've got my favourites.

Lauramum23 · 03/05/2015 19:48

mrswishywashy you will be the first ever expert first time mum lol! you are in a great position really to know all baby equipment!
ive already sorted my pram my old one I still love it its a mamas and papas ultima they don't make them any more but im just not keen on all the modern prams out now, and its such a lovely big cosy carrycot as its going to probably chilly in november/December depending on how far I go over! but I have bought the other big wheeled chassis to go with it! Then ill buy a new maclaren quest as they are my favourite buggys.
I wont go mad this time mostly second hand bits n bobs and I really want knitted stuff no one knitted for me last time- so long as its not hideous colours! I loved the royal babies bonnet it was so cute!

Dixiebell · 03/05/2015 21:13

We bought a new car today!!! I wanted to wait until after the scan on 14th but DH did a deal whereby they'll return our deposit in full if it's twins and we have to buy an even bigger one (as that'd be 4 kids altogether!). Have this niggling thing about twins given the size of my bump already! Haha, that is the first person we've told about the pregnancy Grin IT's a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso so 7-seater but the back row is more occasional use. If it is twins we'll be looking at a full blown 7-seater!

Dixiebell · 03/05/2015 21:14

Am just imagining DH turning up at the Citroen dealers with the scan picture as proof asking for his money back...!Grin

SnozzberryPie · 03/05/2015 21:15

MrsW you probably already know this but you can take one side off an ordinary IKEA cot and attach it securely bungee ropes to the side of your bed if you don't want to buy a special bedside one. We did this when it became apparent that dd would only sleep if she was physically attached to my boob Grin

TwoBeesInTheHive · 03/05/2015 21:53

dixiebell I can't shake the twins feeling either. this is number 3 and I just feel so so pregnant already. my bump feels massive and it feels like proper bump too not just gas. I keep trying to tell myself its just cos this is number 3, cos the thought of 4 under 3 is quite terrifying!!

Dixiebell · 03/05/2015 21:58

That is a rather terrrifying thought, twobees! Ds1 will be 5, so not quite so bad. But DH has looked a bit haunted since I mentioned the twins thing! And there is one set of twins in the family... Let's hope it's just our baby-ravaged bodies making us pop out like this so early shall we, twobees?! Smile

CoffeeTwo · 03/05/2015 22:36

snozberry we'll be doing that with our ikea cot! We co slept for months last time so we're planning ahead now!

cupcakesam84 · 03/05/2015 23:01

Thanks for the acronyms list & for adding me to the due list Grin I couldn't resist buying a white baby grow with matching hat & bunny booties from H&M & my OH has sneakily bought a full baby set from asda & has apparently been stocking up on baby wipes for some reason lol!! I dropped the twin bomb on him a few weeks ago, my uncles are twins- he sighed & buried his head in a cushion!! All will be revealed Friday GrinShockConfused xx

TakesTwoToTango · 04/05/2015 01:21

Two days until scan day! Gulp! (and still the brown blood comes...)

When I had a scan after misscarriage in feb she told me to drink loads and I thought why?? There's nowt there and she will do an internal anyway. But I did as I was told about 10 mins before appointment I hAd a cup if tea and I swigged a 500mls bottle of water on the way. She said at the scan that is was very full! I had an abdominal scan.
And at the 8 week scan I had to go and empty my bladder I think it was too full! So I don't think you need so much or I don't seem too. So don't make yourself sick x

tootsroots · 04/05/2015 07:38

I was told empty bladder for external scan but then has to drink a small bit to
Move the baby out
Of a rut it was in!

BowiesJumper · 04/05/2015 08:05

Morning!

ninja I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so cruel.

I had a lovely weekend, great time at my sister's wedding and fitted into my bridesmaids dress (phew) as still no bump or anything.

I'll move myself on the stats tomorrow as my edd has changed since my scan. 14 weeks today which I think is 2nd trimester?

butter I drank the requires 1l (possibly more) before my scan and was told my bladder was far too full and I had to empty it, so I'd say slow and steady sips of 500ml+ would be ok for you!

Have a lovely bank hol everyone!

Dixiebell · 04/05/2015 08:06

Just looked at my letter again and it mentions nothing about having a full bladder. Previously I have been told that but had to go and empty it like others. So don't think it can be too essential, but maybe just don't go to the loo immediately before the scan.

Gr33dyeggs · 04/05/2015 08:26

For my 2 recently I just had a wee about an hour b4 then had a small glass of water while waiting. I wasn't as uncomfortable as previous scans where I'd drank half a litre and needed to empty it half way through.

stace1986 · 04/05/2015 08:43

My letter specifically says you dont need a full bladder which I was quite pleased about as I have an hours journey to the hospital! Roll on wednesday!

11 + 3 today and dare I say it I had no nausea whatsoever yesterday. Wasn't sick first thing as usual and didn't need to take my tablet in the evening... really hoping this is the end of the awful MS!!

flyingsprocket · 04/05/2015 08:45

My 12 week scan letter mentioned nothing about a full bladder either, I'm sure it did 2 years ago though.

I won't even begin to think about buying anything until at least 24 weeks. I am completely clueless so is DP, we wouldn't even know where to start. To be honest even walking past mothercare frightens me! Most of our friends here are childless by choice so I'm going to have to rely on my one friend with 3 kids as the oracle! Oh and all of you lot of course!

thatduck · 04/05/2015 08:59

Oh my goodness, the sickness is back!!
I'm not buying anything till my 12wk scan but then I'm sure I won't be able to stop myself

Blueblink · 04/05/2015 09:00

Oh ninja look after yourself

buttermilly I'm in at 8am tomorrow too!! I've become sooo anxious I'm papping my pants! Thank god it's first thing in the morning! My letter doesn't say about having a full bladder so I was just planning on not having a wee before!
I think I can start to feel where the bump is, just above my pelvis it's all quite hard compared to the usual sponge!
