Pisghetti · 15/02/2015 17:15

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 22nd grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 39th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Grin Lil.

willywallace · 22/02/2015 05:24

Chat, Oom pah pah is a winner! I only really know one verse though. Must learn the rest.

DulcetMoans · 22/02/2015 08:03

How many rounds of the same verse did you have to do wil? Apparently anything Mary Poppins would shut me up - but was probably a bit older than babywil. Still works now though! Mary Poppins coming on at Christmas keeps me quiet for hours!

I looked up all these prams people mentioned last night. The icandy site made me laugh as it was like 'I candy Strawberry: pomegranate edition'.

I had written that cosetto one down tee. Have you used it yet? MIL pulled a face when she saw one of the patterns though. More reason to get it! Wink

It's not that I feel/felt sick when we ate out purple, more that I can't take large amounts of food at once and when you eat out you tend to eat more than you would at home. Then I feel uncomfortably full and sick for hours. Is it that?

Am I getting too excited if I point out pis didn't post in a while?? Or forgetful!

Purpleball · 22/02/2015 08:11

Dulcet that's exactly it. I feel fine when we're out, it's an hour later that I want to throw up and just keep burping cos I'm so full!

You've just made me realise that I don't know any kids songs or nursery rhymes

laurenamium · 22/02/2015 08:23

dulcet my friend has the mamas and papas zoom, it's lasted her for her little boy who's 2 now and she's using it for her new baby and it still looks new. She's not had any problems with it as far as I know and uses it daily.

Grin At the quinny buzz xtra sounding like something from Anne summers!

TheBooMonster · 22/02/2015 08:31

indigo we have the Mothercare Trenton Deluxe, they don't do it any more but I think it's the same as the Quatro Tour Deluxe. It's a beast, but it's nice and sturdy, can just about cope with going through the woods and has lasted really well with the two and a half years we've had out of it so far.

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 08:46

Morning!

gaggia are the disco pants sparkly? I need to get some glam pants, I'm in m&s finest just now - bum spot and hungry bum are preventing me wearing my usual thongs!

lauren what games did you play at your baby shower? Any loaded nappy ones shudders?

My mum and I went shopping yesterday and she bought the first outfits for my wee one. Little sleep suit and body suit with an elephant on. I had a little choke at them not going to lie. She also bought me some lovely oasis tops. Their stuff is good for maternity as a lot of the tops have pleats at the back so they allow for the bump. She'd brought me some jojo maman bebe wrap tops too for nursing. We went to the baby shop in town and a nice lady showed me how to wrap a sling. She said if you're planning to use sling library you need to go either before you get too big or after baby is born as otherwise it's hard to fit it.

I then took her for a surprise for afternoon tea at a posh hotel. It was immense! I felt like a fat pig by the time we left Grin

I have asked mum if she'll be there for the birth. Have any of you had your dh and someone else in room when you had baby? We can have 2.

If anyone is planning to buy microwave steriliser they have tommee one half price in boots and avent half price on amazon. I've just bought the avent one for £13.

indigo for prams id recommend reading reviews on MN or which then going to shop that has the brands you like and testing them. Some I thought I'd love I didn't like in RL. I got the lady to help show me all the features and how to collapse. I was naughty and then bought it cheaper online! Smile

kato my sil did same as you 2 days ago, we found out yesterday. It's -11 degrees in NYC and she slipped on ice and fell on her front. She had to stay overnight in hospital for observation but luckily her and baby are fine. She's 25 weeks. The whole ordeal cost them $4k because it's the us! Thankful for nhs over here, wow!

I'm not gonna lie, I hate the 9ft pillow! It's too big and made of cheap material. What a waste of £23. I'll see if I can sell it. Is dream genii any good?

purple I used to feel sick if I didn't eat then sick once I'd eaten lots! Can't win Grin. It will pass

dulcet nice try Wink but pis posted yesterday! Push pis push! Hee hee
I love my uppababy pram. The city one is meant to be ok - lady in shop was trying to get me to buy it

Lauren you could try sitting on the quinny buzz extra and see what happens!' Grin

Love oom pah pah use! I used to sing ten green bottles to my horse when he was being stressy as it's repetitive and would chill him out

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 08:48

That was mammoth catch up post sorry!

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 08:52

Does anyone have any space saving nursery ideas? Nursery is teeny and has my wardrobe in it. We have room for cot bed, chair and chest of drawers. There's a handy ledge that we can use for changing table, I'll just need to put something on it to stop baby rolling off. I'm going to look for a chest of drawers that's really tall to make up for lack of width space so furniture designed for nurseries is out as it's all low. My cot bed has a gap under so I'll get some roll out drawers from ikea

DulcetMoans · 22/02/2015 08:59

Damn it! I did look through and couldn't see a post from pis. Ok everyone, stand down! I was overexcited!

Most the reviews for dream genii are positive la, I think maybe I'm doing it wrong. Or mine is broken. But I can't get on with it.

The food thing is hard to get used to purple, but you just learn your capacity. I went out for harvester last Saturday lunch and couldn't eat again until Sunday breakfast. I have also got rennies at the ready as I get heartburn from it but they take an hour to work so you almost need to be bloody psychic to get the benefit before the pain.

Toast85 · 22/02/2015 09:15

Tee what do you think of the cosatto giggle 2? I like the look of it and bonus- it's on offer in mothercare, you get the Hold car seat free. I'm tempted even though it is still very early days for my bean yet.
Those of you with experience- what do you look for in a travel system? What is worth spending money on? What price range is cheap/expensive?

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 09:19

Toast I needed one that could take car seat that is comfy (have heard Greco car seat isn't great for their backs), adjustable handle because dh is so much taller than me, easy to fold as will be on off buses a lot, easy to steer and I wanted a large basket. A lot of them suited so then it was personal choice and budget. I read the reviews on MN and balanced out what we could afford with good reviews. I'd definitely recommend going to see them.

I loved the icandy but it was too expensive, ditto surf2. Uppababy had what I wanted and I got it cheaper at kiddisave

willywallace · 22/02/2015 09:43

Toast I have had to work with the crappest buggies in the past which made me so determined to get one which worked for me.

I haven't researched car seats in last three years but when I was looking I was keen to get one which fitted either maxi cosi or recaro seats. Recaro are generally thought to be the safest as they are tested at a higher speed than any British made seats. Something about them having a five point harness instead of a three aswell. But things may have changed in three years. Regardless, having the option of using car seat on buggy frame is really useful.

For me a buggy must be easy to put up and collapse, easy to steer even when full - usually means bigger wheels, big comfy pushchair seat that will last until child is a decent age. I also like about mine that you can have seat forward or rear facing and the carrycot for babies is pretty big and it has tyres so can handle rougher terrain. I don't like that icandy are robbing bastards and lots of little things need to be bought separately. Also the rain covers are crap and the shopping basket, whilst a decent size, rips quite easily. It did cost quite a lot but most people I know end up buying another pushchair like a little mclaren at some point when their child gets a bit older as they're easier to work with whereas I've never felt I needed to do that as it's so easy to dismantle. The only time it would be useful would be to save boot space on holiday. Sorry for being so long-winded, I'm no good at being concise.

Now I can't remember anything anyone said. Poor babywil is poorly. She has an awful cough and isn't feeding great Sad .

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 09:50

Toast - wil put that far better than I did!! Basically I would make a list of what you need a buggy to do plus budget and then whittle them down from there.

Oh no wil! What's the matter with her? Is it a doctor visit?

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 09:50

Just saw you said cough and not feeding. So if not feeding properly would that be a doctor visit? Is it a cold type cough or a dry cough?

willywallace · 22/02/2015 10:24

Probably just keep an eye on her for now. MiniWil has been coughing all over her for past week so no surprise she has caught it. I think as long as her breathing is fine and she has wet nappies she'll be ok. We're at the doctor's again on Tuesday anyway.

KatoPotato · 22/02/2015 10:51

La I hardly ever used my high changer, even though I had a section! Always on the floor much easier!

teejayem · 22/02/2015 11:01

toast we bought the giggle 2 in pitter patter (weather geeking pattern!) & got the car seat free at the baby show - mothercare didn't stock the pattern I wanted. I really like them, they are funky (I am a tart) and the separate components aren't crazily heavy and i found it easy to push (good for my ruined spine), and they chassis is simple to work (mr tee is mechanically challenged Hmm) Plus whatever we went for needs to fit in the back of a corsa and/or Ka!
I also like that they are British made, and there's no hidden extras you have to pay for like the footmuff (muff.... smirk) and shopping basket thing and rain cover as its all included. The only extra we'll be getting is the isofix base, but even then I'm going to see what a faff it is with just a seatbelt fastening first. I really wanted a three wheel system and something a bit sturdy I can take out for woodland walks etc, and for under £500 I think it's a good deal. I Know Cosatto took a lot of flak about the first giggle model, but this design is completely different and the warranty is comprehensive too. We get it delivered within the next 6 weeks, so will report on faff levels then!

The nursery furniture that I really don't want arrives next weekend. Sweet Jesus, this is really happening... I feel like I've fallen out of denial and into terror, mainly because I've been bimbling along thinking 'ahh, it's fine, we've fot aaaaaages yet' when Erm, it's not that long at all.

Does anyone know if you need to get the Snuzpod specific bedding or if you can use something else? Also, noob question; tiny tee will be here June, so assuming we have another warm summer, exactly how much bedding is he going to need? I know babies doesn't thermoregulate like we do, so I'm conscious of overcooking him if I swaddle, or making him cold if he's frivoulously naked like we sleep... Any tips experienced viroids?

Pisghetti · 22/02/2015 11:03

Nowt going down at Chez Pis - sorry Dulcet Wink I'm full term tomorrow Shock

DS is a bit poorly. Sore throat and vommed all over the bathroom this morning. DP cleaned it up - I love him very much! He doesn't take much mumming these days so it's quite nice to fuss over him a little bit Smile

Toast I find Which? pretty good for reviews. They test car seats to a far more vigorous standard than the British test regime so they have a list of 'don't buy' which meet national standards but perform poorly in their tests. Worth a short term subscription if you're going to do a lot of research over the next few months! The customer reviews are useful as well to get real life experience alongside the technical reviews.

Aw poor microWil Sad hope she bounces back quickly.

La I've see a few good reviews for the ikea Kallax range (used to be expedit) for nurseries - they do a range of boxes which fit in the holes to keep all the wee baby bits. Also worth looking into fitting an extra hanging rail half way down in wardrobes as babies don't need the full height. Or a small chest of drawers to go inside.

OP posts:
willywallace · 22/02/2015 12:04

Ooh Good idea with hanging rail Pis. We also have a tiny baby room. Can't even fit a wardrobe in so also interested in space saving ideas. We have a Kallax unit in the dining room but it wouldn't fit in the nursery although I suppose a four block one might. Are you allowed to put storage on the wall La?

Hope DS is better soon Pis. BabyWil is starting to sound a bit croupy. I hope it's not that.

Tee, you should be fine to swaddle using cellular blanket/muslin/one of those special swaddle things. If it's hot just put her in a vest and nappy underneath and if colder add clothes layers or a blanket on top. I preferred having a summer baby - fewer bugs about.

willywallace · 22/02/2015 12:05

Just said 'her' out of habit. Not sure if you know what you're having.

Indigoblue2 · 22/02/2015 12:24

Thanks for all the pram info! la zyla I didn't get to try the Uppababy as neither Mothercare or M&Ps stocks it Sad But I am pretty tempted by that as well. I've just looked online and there's a shop in aberdeen which apparently is a retailer. Kind of awkward not having them in the major retailers though. la I looked on kiddisave and seems they are out of stock there atm. Would you mind me asking what you ended up paying online?

tee my sister loves the Cosatto giggle! She would have that in a flash and it's really reasonable in Mothercare, free car seat too. I was initially taken by the Wayfarer by Silver Cross but my sister (who is versed in these things from having dneph) pointed out the wheels aren't air filled and for me, living on a farm in the country, probably not going to be all terrain enough. So the assistant showed me the surf2 which had amazing suspension in comparison.

wil I did briefly look at the icandy but even though MiL is buying, I just feel that the new version is too dear. It's lovely though and I saw loads in town yesterday being pushed around! Same for the Bugaboo, just a bit too much to spend for me, but lovely.

So it may be a toss up between the Vista and the Surf2! Both seem to have good suspension and tyres. I like the fact the Vista had the sun guard etc too. And I do like the green one!

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 12:34

Indigo it was £598 for travel system plus carry cot. We were given car seat separately. They've got the green one for £599 on pramcentre. I was told once they're gone they're not making any more as they've now got a new version 2015

Indigoblue2 · 22/02/2015 12:39

Ah ok, I'm confused, is yours not a 2015 one even though you've recently bought it? On that link you posted there's one for £699 underneath which looks to be a 2015, so i wonder if they've changed the spec or something?

LaLaLaaaa · 22/02/2015 13:03

Mine is 2014 one - 2015 you'd expect to pay another £100
