Oh re telling parents, with ds they didn't expect it at all so they were massively shocked, it was lovely :)
This time I literally phoned my mum and said 'I've got a positive test, I need to go to hospital to get my injections, can you please collect ds from preschool?' 'Yes fine, congratulations, good luck.'
It was more exciting after our scan though as they thought it was the day after so we surprised them with that, as that's when it sunk in this time :)

Ca55andraMortmain · 11/03/2015 20:47

Yeah choccy, they can be. Got there in the end though! That's funny about your mum, I dont think my parents will be shocked or massively surprised but I know they'll be delighted- this is their first grandchild and they've made no secret of being desperate to be grandparents! I'm so excited about telling them!

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 10:10

Hi everyone. Hope you are all feeling ok today. My nausea comes in waves now rather than all the time. I just need to keep eating to keep it at bay.

Totally random but is anyone struggling with baking whilst they're pregnant??! It's DD's third birthday today and the fairy cakes I've made - which I could normally do in my sleep - have turned out horrible! I've had two attempts but still rubbish. My mum reckoned she couldn't make pastry when she was preggers so I'm wondering if it's a 'thing'!

Choccywoccydodah · 12/03/2015 10:41

That's what Betty Crocker is for gin Grin

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 10:45

Tell me about it!! Thankfully DM has offered to make the actual cake for her party this weekend to avoid more disasters!!

scatterbrainedlass · 12/03/2015 11:13

So far, baking is the only thing I can do in the kitchen which doesn't make me heave!! To be fair, I did manage to help DH make lasagne yesterday, wasn't too bad.

gaggiagirl · 12/03/2015 11:17

gin its an old wives tale. I have lost the ability to make banana muffins which I can usually do in my sleep too. So there must be something true in it.
In the olden days they said if a menstruating woman went near milk it would turn the milk sour.

Adventuregame · 12/03/2015 13:00

Is anyone else freezing cold all the time ?

scatterbrainedlass · 12/03/2015 13:22

Yup, but the weather isn't great and our house is cold!! Have the heating on all day, and snuggle up under a throw when I'm home :)

batfish · 12/03/2015 14:01

I've always been colder than other people but yes it does seem to have been worse recently! Very annoying as I'm always freezing in the office and others are turning up the AC

gingerbreadmam · 12/03/2015 14:49

i am, my nails are going purple. doesnt help air con is always on full blast in the office. even at home with heating on im still cold particularly hands and feet. in bed is toasty tho once feet warm up.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 12/03/2015 15:53

Well I feel a million times better for not having had a folic acid tablet since yesterday. Confused Don't feel amazing but so much less nauseous.

Going to try taking at night but really reluctant to go back to that awful feeling. Is it 12 weeks we can stop folic?

Cineraria · 12/03/2015 17:02

I think you're supposed to take it up until 12+6 and then it's no longer necessary Looks.

I was feeling cold for ages, which is unlike me, but I'm now so hot I went to work without my coat, just a short cotton jacket over a short sleeve dress as I'd been overheating on the train the last few days. I'm 11+2 now though, so wondering if the heat is due to the placenta being active.

Toast85 · 12/03/2015 17:26

I've been wondering how long to take folic acid for- because if you get it through multivits like pregnacare you could end up continuing to take it right through. but is there no benefit in continuing taking just basic folic acid and vit d tablets after 3 months?

Fizzy13 · 12/03/2015 18:53

Thats what I was told. toast My midwife also said there was no need for pregnacare etc. I'll stop my folic acid +d in a week or so and then just try to have a varied decent diet. I'm lucky I've only been craving fruit and generally eat well.

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 19:15

gaggia, really? That's so interesting. Best steer clear of the cupcake making for a while then!

I'm not taking Pregnacare this time as they made me retch first time around. Just one little folic acid tablet a day (when I remember).

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 12/03/2015 19:20

I think it's the folic acid that's making me so ill. Surely it can't be a good thing for me, if it makes me feel so hideous?!

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 19:25

Oh god, looks, I've just googled the side effects! Stupidly, I had no idea. As well as nausea and bloating, it can cause depression. I've been feeling so sad and unsettled the last few weeks but put it down to hormones. Last few days, since forgetting to take folic acid, I've been back to my usual, happy self. Hhmm...

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 12/03/2015 19:27

Ridiculous. I'm wondering which veggies we have to take lots of, in order to not have to take the evil folic acid...

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 19:35

Apparently spinach, peas and spinach are all good. I eat loads of them so they fingers crossed that will be enough.

ginzillas · 12/03/2015 19:36

Broccoli rather than spinach twice!

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 12/03/2015 20:13

Oh thank goodness, one portion of spinach is too much for me Grin

I get loads of the others though...

Teapig · 12/03/2015 20:59

Hi ladies,

I've been hanging out on the FB page as it's easier to access via my phone but I'm vowing to be more active here, I have lots of catching up to do!

I have a dating scan tomorrow, I'm trying to ignore the fact it's Friday 13th and have everything crossed that bean is ok. I have to go on my own as DH is working and my parents will have DD so really hoping not to receive any bad news on my own. If all goes well it will be great to finally have a due date. I'm guessing I'm 8-9 weeks along but that's just my best guess so hopefully I'll get a date tomorrow.

Right, off to catch up on all the updates now. I hope the nausea passes soon for all those feeling it x
