I can definitely recommend second hand buggy purchases! For DD we had a bugaboo, which we bought off ebay. used it for almost two years and have recently sold it again on ebay, making a £90 profit!! We've now bought a Phil and Teds second hand from our local NCT nearly new sale - cost £95. Our cot is second hand off gumtree. getting it second hand meant we could afford to get a Stokke cot, which is one of the round ones that grows with the child (I love these but would never pay full price for one). I'd much rather have more expensive things second hand...

RL20 · 10/02/2015 15:34

Hi berberana- wow that is quite spooky but hopefully your little one holds on for a bit longer than that Smile do let us know though!

Hiding- I'm the same! I'm already anxious enough as it is without watching screaming ladies giving birth, no thank you! I also can't deal with gory things, obviously when I give birth I won't be as bothered but I don't want to see other ladies bits! So I too have avoided One Born Every Minute and similar programmes!

Penguin- I don't know your full story but that sounds like a lot of tablets! Hope you and baby are feeling ok!

On the subject of pushchairs, we picked up ours last week and I love it so much! It's a Silver Cross 3D Monodot travel system with car seat. We got it on offer as it's end of line, (they've bought out a newer model which is.. exactly the same?!). We got the travel system for £250 whch had gone down from £500 I believe. It's actually been reduced even more according to when I last looked on Mothercares website - to £175 if they still have any in stock. Absolute bargain and it's gorgeous! ?? Was going to go for Mothercares own brand - can't remember what it's called but my partner didn't like it for some reason when we had a look at it in store. Not a massive fan on the ICandy though I know a lot of people are, I seem to see them everywhere! They were out of our price range though so I never really looked at them properly. I did see a girl with a light dusky purple one the other day which was actually nice and I hadn't seen that colour before

That's a really kind things say Nunkie, I enjoy my job very much and it has its advantages but it is very demanding at times. It's hard pleasing everyone!

Yay, I've sold ds1's bed! Got £50 for it but I bought it for £85 2 years ago so not bad. It's huge and the lady who's bought it wants us to deliver so means we have the work of taking it down and packing it in the car but she wants it Thursday evening which means only one day with ds1&2's new bunks and ds1's bed in the house so I can complain :) especially as dh wanted to just chuck it!

FiRaffe · 10/02/2015 16:24

Oh Penguin - at least you have a diagnosis for that itching now. Hopefully the meds will help and gingers crossed baby stays put for a while!

berberana · 10/02/2015 16:59

Thanks for the pram advice - I do like the look of the bugaboo chameleon, it's just a case of finding one in pickup distance and the right price! Also quite like I candy peach but that seems to have mixed reviews. I keep finding models which look perfect but then you read one negative review that's really dramatic like "the chassis collapsed and tipped baby into road"!! Will check out M&P Zoom, it seems a good price. I'm not that bothered about a carrycot cos we hardly used it last time, but def want a parent facing pushchair which reclines flat and a car seat that attached. I'm boring myself with it all!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2015 17:35

Sorry PenguinPoser rubbish of me but this is your first isn't it? Glad you're being treated and hopefully growth scans etc will show that you can go longer. 37-38wks is pretty much term anyway, will just be a skinny baby Wink

BananaToast · 10/02/2015 17:38

Hiding sorry you've been so ill, hope you continue to feel better this evening.

cinnamon that's a lot to take on without a full time job - let alone caring for several small children all day! I hope I can manage to do half of what you do when my little one arrives. I'm definitely one of life's organisers so can see myself taking on extra jobs with the school etc some day.

Penguin glad they seem positive about management and risks to baby, hope the meds help to get the itching under control. It must be driving you crazy!

Re birth videos, I'm not sure that my antenatal classes show any but I'd be happy to watch. I love One Born and similar shows, although find them a bit less comfortable to watch since being pregnant! I always feel more confident about doing things when I have more information, so I would rather learn as much as possible before the event, including what happens when things don't go to plan.

Siarie I'm a bit jealous about your placenta viewing! I def want a peek at mine when the time comes!

AnniaFausta · 10/02/2015 18:06

Penguin - sorry to hear about the diagnosis, but it sounds like they're on top of it - and as others have said 37 weeks is more or less full term, so it sounds like it's mainly keeping you comfortable and getting the itching under control.

I'm in the 'not wanting to see a video' camp - I saw one in a sex ed video when I was about 9 or 10 and it put me off having a baby for about ten years! (The aim of sex ed clearly succeeded, you might say...) I'd rather go in anxiety-free if I possibly can, within the boundaries of being reasonably informed about what might happen and how we'll cope if a more major intervention is needed.

I think I can definitely do without seeing the placenta... think I'll be much more interested in meeting our new small person!

PenguinPoser · 10/02/2015 18:56

Thanks everyone. Was really upset last night but feel better today now I know it's all in hand and they couldn't have been better really at sorting out tests and appointments etc. Work have been great - phoned to say I would be in Thursday morning (annual leave tomorrow) but had to leave by 12 for my scan and they were lovely about it.

Hiding sorry to hear you've been poorly - gastroenteritis is the absolute pits. Hope you are feeling better now and continue to do so. Definitely don't go back to work until you're ready.

Cinnamon agree with others about your job - I don't think childminding should be knocked at all, don't think I could do it! Although I have a stressful job too I have the greatest of respect for anyone working with children, love them but you must need eyes in the back of your head at all times, lots of responsibility and I don't imagine it's at all easy, not to mention the other things you do and managing to keep running too!

I've seen several births before and placentas - but am also at the stage where I don't want to watch one born every minute!! It's like a fingers in ears and "la la la" moment I think I'm in denial about the birth!

Lauren82000 · 10/02/2015 19:26

Well those raisins were such a bad idea this morning I have still not got rid of the heartburn they caused. Thought I was going to be sick before when I bent to pick the washing up. Confused My back is aching too and I think I feel a little ear ache so looks like I can add that to my runny nose and I've picked something up again Hmm least I'm off next week! 3 more days of work to go.

Heyitsholly · 10/02/2015 19:27

Well I rang the midwives after telling a colleague about my vision who went crazy at me for hesitating! So they got me in and did loads of tests ,not pre ecampsia but they aren't sure what it is so got sent home to rest.
Its still the same this eve. But babies kicking like a goodun and at least I'm reassured.

Its stressful this pregnancy lark!!

Heyitsholly · 10/02/2015 19:28

I'm so jealous of birthing videos (I love one born) might go google some now you've said!!

Siarie · 10/02/2015 19:36

Urgh my back is aching Sad

FiRaffe · 10/02/2015 20:04

Hope it feels better Siarie.

I'm feeling really hungry....bad enough normally, but making it worse by watching the BBC documentary about which diet is best for you and pulling out recipes from my Good Food collection so we can clear the bulk out. It was a good idea, honest!

TheBooMonster · 10/02/2015 20:29

oh no holly hope you feel better soon, but thank goodness that it isn't Preeclampsia!

I'm such a glutton for birthing video's, have been watching hypnotherapy aided birth video's on youtube so much that my feed is mostly full of them now (with the occasional bare minerals review)

penguin fab news that the docs are on top of everything, even if you'll rattle from all the tablets!

RL20 · 10/02/2015 20:53

Hope you're ok siarie. I got back ache today at work so have just been tending to sit down more when I can as I have to walk around a lot for my job.
I got a leg pain yesterday mainly in my lower leg which worked it's way up slightly. Don't really know how to describe it, like an achey annoying pain. I don't think it's anything to worry about I think it's more of a trapped nerve or something but it is annoying!
I envy you all that can sit and watch birth videos, I haven't got the guts to as I'm so squeamish!

RL20 · 10/02/2015 20:57

P.S. Firaffe I'm hungry a lot of the time now too. When I woke this morning (at 3.30am because of the cat, if you didn't read my post this morning!) and having trouble erring back to sleep, I ended up getting a Go Ahead fruit bar thing at about 5.30am!

Siarie · 10/02/2015 21:02

It's just uncomfortable, you can't bend backwards as that hurts your back but you can't sit forwards because there's a massive bump digging into the ribs.

I knew it would start aching eventually as I have damage to my back but I just hope it's not going to get as bad as the days before my back physio sessions. I suppose it's all part of pregnancy and only 11 weeks to go for me now.

FiRaffe · 10/02/2015 21:02

RL - at least you went for something better for you. ...The box of shortbread we got for Christmas is calling at the moment!

Lauren82000 · 10/02/2015 21:04

I'm going to bed now so I don't sit and stuff myself with chocolate and other naughty stuff. Feels like I'm eating for the sake of eating not actually because I need to. Blush

Least heartburn has subsided for now so I'll watch a little something on the ipad and nod off I think. I'll be up in a couple of hours for a wee no doubt. Hmm

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 10/02/2015 21:05

tea was a cheese toastie, supper was chocolate... not the healthiest day!

but I feel crappy (emotional) and it was comforting.

TheBooMonster · 10/02/2015 21:19

we had a Chinese for dinner and I've been making my way through a huge tub of jelly beans so been a picture of healthiness this evening, had a BLT for lunch though, that's healthy right? and a rhubarb yoghurt with cinnamon sugar sprinkled over it for breakfast... hmm...

smogsville · 10/02/2015 21:34

I hoofed down a chicken and bacon caesar baguette thingy en route home from exercise class it had loads of mayo and Parmesan in it, hardly the healthiest choice.

Afternoon snacks included loads of mandarins (good) and a lindor bar (bad). Lunch was an enormous burrito thing full of lamb and rice and veggies that should really have been big enough to last all day. The sort of thing an agricultural labourer would have to sustain them for a ten hour day in the fields...

Brekkers was a banana and tea at home and then a decaf sugary latte and a really wonderful pot of Bircher muesli from pret which I really recommend for an out and about not too unhealthy filler.

So a day of highs and lows, nutritionally speaking. All v tasty though Wink
