Has anyone bought big brother/sister t-shirts for their older kids? I've been looking at Zazzle but I can't decide which ones to get.

Lauren82000 · 08/02/2015 09:14

Yup I got a personalised one from amazon. It's really cute. It came with a tote bag with the same wording on it for £8. I'll try and get a pic when DH takes her out later.

TheBooMonster · 08/02/2015 09:17

dances most new mummies have the day three blues, but it's worth mentioning it to one of the midwives that you're feeding low.

Anyone else get cramping along one side or other of bump that lasts about 30 seconds to a minute? Got a calf cramp last night and since the early hours I've been getting the exact same feeling in the front of my bump. Tell me that's normal? That's normal right? I really don't want to phone the hospital, mum's cooking me a turkey roast dinner and that mixes badly with the crazy idea in my head that I might be in labour...

Lauren82000 · 08/02/2015 11:35

I've been getting the odd stabbing pain in the middle next to my belly button I get a few together then nothing for a couple of hours. But no cramps I'm afraid. Keep an eye on it you can always ring after your roast

Rustyzilla · 08/02/2015 11:48

Wow another epic amount of posts to catch up on!

Since my last panicked post about not knowing about cord blood/pulsating cords/vit k injections etc I have been reading the book I was given at about 6w pregnant. Still to get to birth section so I presume all mysteries will be unveiled then! Grin

Someone was talking about pushchairs and mentioned the Babystyle Oyster. After a LOT of research we narrowed it down between the Oyster 2 and the Bugaboo Bee3. No doubt the bee is flashier and has a great resale price but the Oyster to me had a v similar feel and look and is £200 cheaper. So that is what we're getting! Still need to sort car seat and base, baby bath and bedding but other than that I think we're pretty much sorted!

mini sorry to hear your readings are high. Day 4 of monitoring my bloods for me and so far, so good. Although good choices are a bit limited and I am missing a bit of chocolate! Having a growth scan on Friday which will be interesting to find out how big baby is currently estimated to be. I have been told I will be induced 'by 40w' but it could be sooner if I am having a big baby (am only a small person myself so this is a scary thought!). Do you know if/when you will be induced? Will you have to stay in hospital after the birth? Anyone have any induction or GD birth related stories to share? Feels very 'unknown'!

My DH has just left for 2 weeks in Asia on business. Emotional at him going away when I am nearly 32w! He did however buy me a foot and hand massage/treatment for valentines day. That made me cry too! Blush

Food choices, not good choices. Stupid phone.

daholster · 08/02/2015 13:47

boo I get the cramp on one side of the bump! it's really sore! I think it's when he has moved and putting weight where he shouldn't. I wouldn't worry unless it's two sided and becoming regular and worsening... Or something dramatic happens like you bleed or your waters go!

Yum... Roast... We had chicken salad brought by my lovely aunt, that was yummy too (mayonnaise and free range organic chicken always helps! The tastiness factor!)

TinyTear · 08/02/2015 14:45

GD story, last time I was on insulin the last month so was induced at 39 w
Pessary in on monday, nothing happened for DAYS... By Wednesday I was 3cm dilated so they broke the waters and got me on the drip... Tried gas and air but begged for an epidural soon... Over night got to 9cm in the morning but wasn't going anywhere as my DD had her head bent... So after 6 hours (blessed epidural) I was taken for a emcs and she was born Thursday after lunch...

But then by Saturday we were discharged and I walked home...

TinyTear · 08/02/2015 14:46

And now my levels seem okish... I am now on 2 metformin at breakfast and 1 at dinner and had a few good fasting levels and breakfast ones which were my problem.

Have growth scan and appointment with consultant on Thursday

PenguinPoser · 08/02/2015 16:35

Hope you're ok Boo and the cramping has settled. I get some crampy pains down the left side sometimes where babies back is. If you're getting tightenings/contractions with the pain then get it checked out, otherwise it's most likely fine. Hope you enjoyed your roast!! I've really missed my Sunday dinner today as been to our nieces 3rd birthday party (complete with visit from Minnie Mouse!) so was party food for lunch - always find that it seems like a good idea at the time then feel yucky afterwards and just wish I had had a proper meal! Going to make some nice pasta for tea later.

Ah Rusty rubbish about your DH going away - enjoy that hand and foot massage sounds lovely Smile

FiRaffe · 08/02/2015 17:02

Chococroc - probably too late now, but pretty sure they can't force you to take your holiday, they just have to pay you for it if you don't use it and they won't let you carry forward.

Boo - I get a cramp style pain on the top left of my bump if i've done too much.rest usually helps, so hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Tiny - can I ask, after you had the pessary did they let you go home or keep you in?

Thanks Penguin

Squatting that's very cute!

Cisforcat · 08/02/2015 18:03

Rusty when I had the pessary they let me home. Told me to go back in after 24 hrs if nothing had happened beforehand but then I wouldn't be out until I had the baby. ( as it turned out the pessary fell out anyway so I just went in the next morning. )
I then throughout the course of the day had 3 lots of gel , and then after another 24 hrs I had my waters broken. It was still another 24 hrs til dd arrived by forceps. Poor wee thing is still as stubborn haha!

Nunkie · 08/02/2015 18:13

Boo, could it just be Braxton Hicks??
(I have all sorts of weird aches and pains that never come to owt. Last night I frightened myself half to death with an upset stomach, as I understand your body handily sometimes gives you a 'clear out' just before going into labour. But as far as I can tell, it was just that: an upset stomach :0)

Oh, and as far as eating/drinking dos and dont's goes I'll once again urge everyone to get Emily Oster's 'Expecting Better'. Every preggers persons should have it. It's not a long read, but it's a veritable mine of useful information, and hysteria-debunking. (For instance: Rest easy re your glass of wine in the evening ladies... just try and drink it slowly - that gives the liver a chance to process it before it even gets anywhere near the placenta).

Whoa... another day of buggy-study has us realising that the offer Mothercare currently has on the Joolz Day (which includes a Cybex car seat) nearly brings it in to line with the Armadillo Flip XT, price wise. The Joolz carrycot is one of the only ones suitable to actually sleep the baby in overnight too - a win for us, as we are going to try a hammock, but it would be great to have 'back-up' if that goes pear-shaped, and for when we visit friends and family. But the Flip is oh so easy to collapse and has that massive hood. Dilemma time!

I also thoroughly retract what I said earlier about rejecting the iCandy as we couldn't collapse it. Once we actually asked how (dur!), it was a piece of cake - one of the best to collapse in fact.

Got to see a Zoom too, still considering the second-hand option for one of those, they seem like a solid little package.

daholster · 08/02/2015 19:48

4 tiles left... Oh yawn...

30+5 and feel it!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2015 20:25

It's not surprising you're emotional dancestomyowntune, it's emotional enough having a baby let alone one much sooner than you expect and with all the stresses that go with having an early baby! Take care of yourself. I worried about how much ds1 was getting but found it a blessing with ds2 as you don't need to know how much as long as they are content afterwards, wet nappies and gaining weight, it's actually one less thing to worry about!

I think you can roughly, chickenMe, by where you get actual kicks rather than pushes. Plus the head is pretty hard! I never had an alternative birth partner.

One gel got me started with both of mine when I was induced Ciaforcat and TinyTear but wasn't early was 40+13 with both.

TheBooMonster, I get stabbing pains occasionally and find it hard to stand up straight when I do but only had that a few times.

Went to a baby shower today, was quite good fun :)

RL20 · 08/02/2015 20:35

Sorry for all of the posts I've probably missed! Hard to keep up. Hope everyone's ok tonight.

Boo - did you end up calling the midwife? Hope everything is ok.

Chococroc - I thought I was the only one going on maternity leave relatively early! I also feel sort of ready, well I will do when the actual time comes. I go on maternity in a few weeks when I will be 33 weeks (currently 29+6). I was going to move the start of my maternity back a bit, but for the sake of a couple of weeks I'm just going to keep it as it is. A lot can progress within a couple of weeks and who knows how achey I'll be feeling, as my job isn't a sitting down job.
Plus, last year (or the year before) a girl at work was due to go on maternity leave that day, and started getting aches and cramps. Turns out she was in labour! She had her baby 5 weeks early, which scared me a bit as I want to have at least a few weeks off if I can, before the time arrives! Bless her she had no time off from work at all, but baby was all well and fine which is the main thing!

minipie · 08/02/2015 20:46

dances I found DDs time in NICU to be a bit of an emotional roller coaster... sending a big hug for you. Pumps wise, you might want to ask the hospital about hiring a hospital grade pump, it's not that costly and they are by far the best. If you want to buy one I found the Ameda Lactaline good (and it's one of the few that is properly hygienic second hand) but the hospital ones are better still.

rusty I will be induced at 40 weeks assuming I can stay diet controlled - earlier if not. And they will want to keep me and baby in for 24-48 hours after. From what I have read, induction can go v quickly if you need the drip and is more painful and more likely to end up in intervention or c section than natural labour... yay Hmm. If you can manage to get it going without the drip (just sweep or pessary etc) it seems to go much more like natural labour - maybe because these only work if you're almost ready anyway?

TinyTear · 08/02/2015 20:58

Rusty, I had to stay in... It is quicker for most people... A woman on the next bed to me had her labour start a few hours after the pessary...

RiverRocks · 08/02/2015 21:01

If anyone's around and keeps missing it like me, Amazon have got the nappy offer on again here

smogsville · 08/02/2015 21:35

I'm getting a pain that's more like a stitch on my right hand side when I walk too quickly. Usually when I'm rushing for a tube.

All this talk of people having babies early has made me think about finishing off my hospital bag this week. I've also sent DH out in the garden so he can get digging and sorting it looks dreadful at the moment after the ravages of winter and with the remnants of the extension lying everywhere.

Dances my baby blues kicked in on day 2/3 I literally mooned around the ward weeping. As others have said do talk to midwives though and take care. I've also heard about hospital grade pumps being the business.

Daholster I hope your tiling is looking ship shape - what a productive day you must be v pleased with yourself.

daholster · 08/02/2015 23:59

Thanks smogs. They aren't grouted yet... That's tomorrow morning's job before dad comes to fit the sink over them. It's just a strip of mosaic tiles but they are a pain in the butt to line up!!! Hopefully then I can paint the room next weekend so its all done and I can move onto sorting the upstairs again! Maybe I'll post a pic when it's finished Smile

Feeling a bit unsettled. Had Indian takeaway for tea and very full and slightly nauseous. Then at bed I showered and changed my ileostomy bag. I know none of can probably relate to this but it helps to share, sorry... For a start it looked a bit odd like it had prolapsed slightly and I scolded myself for spinning dd round so much this weekend working those tummy muscles of mine! Chose to ignore it though, I've seen it like that before and two days later it's normal.

Then it was sore to clean around and I saw the top join is getting really stretched with the skin peeling, ugh. Not much to do about that either! Just makes me feel a bit icky when I clean it and stick the new bag on there Confused stomach lurches a little

THEN as I was trying to see underneath the stoma (omg it's getting impossible!!!) I realised I was getting uncomfortable. Despite straightening up a painful cramp is running from my right back round down the side of my bump.

I can't get rid of it! Ds's movements feel quite prominent. I can't get comfy for anything. Doesn't help the feeling nauseous. If it was both sides I'd be a bit worried but so far it's just the one.

Going to try to sleep... But dh is snoring his head off loudly in my ear and waiting for dd to wake again (she has a cough with another cold coming, poor thing). I'll try to snooze though and hope this pain doesn't keep me awake!

Night all.

PenguinPoser · 09/02/2015 03:07

Hope you're ok daholster it sounds like muscle cramp possibly related to your stoma and all the muscles around it stretching and changing? I've been feeling nauseous after big meals too (especially curry!!).

Currently can't sleep. Itching is getting worse Sad everywhere and I don't know if it's that or worrying about it that's keeping me awake. I have been dozing for a few hours but getting stressed worrying about having obstetric cholestasis and something happening to baby Sad which I know it probably wouldn't but still.

Worrying about whether to just go to work (long commute, long day, poor phone signal) or phone in sick and try and get seen and bloods done. And do I phone midwife, GP or maternity assessment? Baby is moving ok and everything I'm just driving myself crazy with itching and worrying about it!!! Ahhh!!! I'm my own worst enemy in a way I don't "do" calling in sick. Hmm

Sorry for rant. Need to try and sleep again...
