Fair enough Chicken - DH didn't like the bee either, he loved the Uppababy vista - which is a great buggy but it's HUGE and I'm a titch so felt dwarfed by it. He left the decision mostly to me though as he couldn't face any more buggy shops realised I'd use it a lot more.

Annia we're going to stay with friends over Valentine's Day - not romantic but none of us is terribly fussed about the day itself Grin. I've told DH not to get me flowers as they're so expensive and die very quickly at v day time!

smogsville · 07/02/2015 14:20

On a separate note now we're third trimester, how are people feeling about the odd spot of banned food?

There were two new cheesy market stalls this morning one selling gruyere and the other raw milk pecorino. I know because I asked and then DH bought some of the pec anyway.

Goes without saying that I strongly suspect I am going to have some. Dreadful or ok as only occasional? At river caff yesterday I found it v easy to turn down wine but this cheese lark is a different thing altogether.

Siarie · 07/02/2015 14:23

So cute! Just bought more baby clothes, DH picked the top and leggings!

PenguinPoser · 07/02/2015 14:27

smogs this week I have had a runny egg and a small glass of prosecco (exam celebration!). I feel ok about it Smile. I think everyone will have mixed opinions though! Thankfully my cheese cravings have been limited to the run of the mill cheddar etc.

Oh gosh Annia this is why I leave the bedroom door open, I hate being closed in rooms. Well done on escaping though!

Feel a little better now I have my support belt on and had some paracetamol. Going to have a lazy afternoon on the sofa Grin

PenguinPoser · 07/02/2015 14:28

Aw siarie they are lovely! Can't wait to find out if I have a DD or a DS so I can buy more cute clothes, the unisex ones just aren't quite as good!

minipie · 07/02/2015 14:54

smogs I've read hard cheeses are ok even if unpasteurised - since there's very very little chance of listeria being able to live in a hard cheese. (Conversely mould rinded cheese like Brie are not ok even if made with pasteurised milk since the listeria can grow while the cheese is maturing.) So your pecorino I wouldn't even regard as banned and would happily eat!

I'm still staying off rare meat (toxo risk), raw fish (parasite risk) and the listeria risks like pate and mould rind cheese.

Runny eggs I've eaten throughout as long as they are lion stamped. I'm also having the odd glass of wine, one or two a week, and either a coffee or a few cups of tea a day.

Penguin That's why we didn't want to wait to find out the sex, because of the clothes. It might seem like a tiny thing but I just like to plan and I've been able to buy things on sale then spend the extra on nice things that aren't in the sales.

Also I wouldn't worry about the running eggs as long as they are lion stamped. I posted this article early on when we were all in the first trimester, as long as it's lion stamped the eggs are checked for salmonella anyway.

The main things I'm still finding annoying are sinus aches (mostly my ears or face), breathlessness, pelvic pain and trying to remember to drink enough water!

I do have the occasional shandy. I miss sushi but I will wait. I miss a good beer. I had steak that was a bit pink but not rare but I have gone off of steak totally now. I hate runny eggs anyway and a bit dubious about running eggs Siarie because if they are running they must have gone off.Grin Running eggs made me laugh.

kismac · 07/02/2015 15:47

Lovely outfits. Im starting to wish we'd found out the sex for that reason but at least it means we've not went overboard with shopping as unisex stuff can be a bit blah.

I've got DH slippers and box of chocolates (which I plan on eating) for Valentine's Day. He's very romantic and Im a bit rubbish. He's taking me out for a surprise for Valentine's Day. He's such a big girl. Ha ha.

Is it bad that I stopped into a shoe shop just so I could sit down for a bit?

Siarie · 07/02/2015 16:08

Grin No one wants a running egg!

smogsville · 07/02/2015 17:21

Minipie this is massive news, does it mean I can eat Comte?!! I am doing a dance of joy.

Lauren82000 · 07/02/2015 17:40

No plans for valentines day here. I think it's a stupid over hyped excuse to over price rubbish food and crappy gifts.

I've tried telling DH we aren't doing anything for it, I'm not even getting him a card. It's our first one since we got married but our first wedding anniversary will be in April so I'd much rather push the boat out for that as that's our special day and not everyone else's. I'd laugh my ass off if I spent it in labour now I've said that. Grin

smogsville · 07/02/2015 18:04

I've bought DH a card and will expect him to make me something nice to eat maybe champagne risotto and then I will have one solitary glass. That's the thing you see I never feel like just one glass of wine, I like a healthy half a bottle. With an aperitif beforehand and a sloe gin to round things off Wink

Another good reason to BF for ages - helps me to stay away from the sauce esp as hangovers are now so much worse and caused by just a few glasses.

minipie · 07/02/2015 18:22

smogs yep, Comte is doubly ok - first because it's a hard cheese, second because the making process involves cooking it at 60 degrees which kills everything, in fact if you look on the official Comte website it says "can pregnant women eat Comte? Yes!" and explains all this.

I may have done quite a lot of cheese research

Despite this supermarkets will label anything unpasteurised as "not for pregnant women"... sigh .. but they are just being uber cautious and/or haven't read the full info.

TheBooMonster · 07/02/2015 18:26

victory dance Completed my last day before my maternity leave (well 5.6 weeks holiday and then mat leave but much the same) Managed to sneak out without too much fuss, Got a hug from one of the supervisors and a demand that I bring the baby in and that was about it. DD is with my mum this weekend and I feel like I should drag DH out for a meal to celebrate but it's a Saturday and all the restaurants are in the city where the clubs and pubs are so they will be insane, especially as he won't be back home till almost 7 and we'd then need to change and get into the city...

We're unlikely to do much for valentines, DH has never been one to celebrate valentines, and I'm too exhausted and sore most of the time to DTD, so I don't even have the promise of DTD to encourage him to make the effort :P

Wineandchoccy · 07/02/2015 18:32

Been to look around the hospital today, seen the birthing centre room with pool and the birthing suite room where you go if consultant led. Rooms were all lovely my DH said they looked like hotel rooms. We are going to look around the stand alone birthing unit on Thursday evening to compare the two.
If no problems you get discharged after 6 hours, DH can stay in a reclining chair and if you are in the low risk birthing centre you can have up to 3 visitors in your room outside of normal visiting times.

TheBooMonster · 07/02/2015 19:02

OOOh that sounds lovely wine

Well DH got home, said we needed to celebrate, and pointed out that his work colleagues had gone to a new burger place in the city. I expressed some interest in this and he went into full on back track mode... turns out celebrate in his mind was much closer to us ordering a takeaway we could have had on any other night of the week and sit around wasting an evening... so my big celebratory maternity leave meal is fish and chips! I'm ordering something unnecessary and expensive next time he leaves his credit card out as punishment. I may even order myself flowers goes into full on sulky bitch mode in a vase and everything!

smogsville · 07/02/2015 19:16

Ah the poor DHs they do get it wrong sometimes don't they Boo. Maybe he just really fancied f&c? Hope you get more of the chips than he does - only consolation I can think of. Great news that you've finished in any case.

Minipie this news is both fabulous and infuriating! The number of times I've picked up the lumps of Comte in waitrose, read the not suitable for preggos bit on the back, sighed and put them back.

I am going to write a cross letter and see I can't bag myself a few free lumps. I'm a bloody good customer and I'd be even better if they let me know what I can and cannot eat Angry

On the upside DH is making supper and I'm sitting down with the paper so everything's fine fundamentally.

Lauren82000 · 07/02/2015 19:19

Great for you that you've finished already Boo but bad luck on the meal. We had Dominos Smile 'twas lovely and I got the last slice!

It was 7 weeks left on Friday for me but half term is the 16th so I'm off for the week and then there will only be 5 weeks left at work. I'm really looking forward to being off I need to get the rest of the baby stuff down from the loft and get washing/packing. I refuse to do it earlier and if I go into labour before it's all sorted it's not the end of the world my mum and MiL would jump on it and get it all sorted for me.

Thinking about that is anyone hiring a Tens machine? I thought I'd give one a whirl this time round. I've found a reasonably priced one was just wondering if your hiring when are you hiring from?

TheBooMonster · 07/02/2015 19:44

lauren we're borrowing a tens machine, MiL's friend has one that's been lent out to many pregnant women for labour, we had it last time but it never made it to the hospital, it's packed in the bag ready this time. We decided against actually hiring because we were uncertain whether I'd need it in time for 37 weeks or 40 and the fees for hiring from 36 all he way through to 42 looked quite high. I looked at the Elle Tens+ that comes with a pelvic floor exerciser, and almost bought it until the borrowed one was waved at me along with a growl that £100 for a tens machine was insane... but it had a contraction booster button too :(

Oh, I ordered the fish and chips! this was after I got out pie and chips in a pointed i'm fucking furious and you should do something move that resulted in him sulking in the bedroom. Shock If i'd left it to him we'd be eating Boo cooked it pie and chips!!

I'm going to wash all of the teeny baby stuff tomorrow morning so it can dry over the course of the day ready to go into the bottom drawer and hospital bag. Three of my FB April ladies are currently trapped in the hospital in imminent danger of having babies removed early, so I'm starting to panic a bit about being ready >.

RL20 · 07/02/2015 20:08

Hi everyone sorry to interrupt half way through a conversation. I haven't posted on an April thread for a while!
I hope everyone is doing ok.

Currently at 29+5. Does anyone else think the time has just absolutely flew by so far?! I can't believe there is only just over 10 weeks to go until my due date!
I suppose it won't go as fast when I go on maternity leave on the 2nd March, though.
Although the time seems to go really slow when you're waiting for payday! Ha ha.

TheBooMonster · 07/02/2015 20:16

rl totally with you on the time flying by, I'm certain it didn't go this fast last time! MiL is obsessive about this being the last grandchild though Hmm

RiverRocks · 07/02/2015 20:39

Boo I've started panicking as well. There's a fair few been born on my babycentre group. I threw my phone at DH with a 'look, we're not ready!' Luckily he humours me (although there's been 5 in the last 2 days, so not overreacting by much admittedly I'm on the March thread over there )

Huge congratulations dances, she's adorable Flowers

It's flown by since Christmas but since I started with the pins and needles in my hands, I'm finding it much harder going. Can't grip anything without horrid pain, so getting dressed in a morning is torture; hairbrush, toothbrush, tights, steering wheel Sad

6 weeks 5 days to go! I blooming well hope Grin
