jackie have you hired a doula before? We had one first time around but she was on holiday when I went into labour (12 days overdue!) Just interested in your experience of it. I'm not sure we will bother this time but I'm still open to the idea.

Jackieharris · 27/01/2015 10:42

No, if I had last time things would have been very different.

Yes, I don't want to book one that will be on holiday in my birth month!

There are a few around here, so if there' said problem with one I suppose I can get another. Out of interest how much did you pay? I've heard very different quotes.

Bollyroo · 27/01/2015 11:10

Elley that's just set me off weeping! So pleased for you!

So, we're telling my PIL this week (6+4). They will be thrilled of course, 1st grandchild, but I'm getting really nervous.

Firstly it makes it all real which is cool but after all the bad luck some people have had on here, I'm just really wanting to hold out telling anyone until 12wks. But this is the only time we see the PIL until April so it's now or never.

Secondly, I just know MIL will be "handsy" even though there is nothing there except an impressive pair of boobs - if I do say so myself!

How has everyone else dealt with this situation?

butterflycats · 27/01/2015 11:18

Jackie where abouts do you live, my friend had an amazing doula in the West Midlands area xx

alien11 · 27/01/2015 11:32

Anyone else 6 weeks and getting pains? Guessing ligaments stretching

butterflycats · 27/01/2015 11:52

Thinking of you donna it must be a tough day. I was going to go for a private scan but having read about your previous experience have decided not to at the moment, but so worried about a mmc.

Got my appointment with midwife in an hour... Scared! Don't know why! I can't decide whether to have the screening tests done, what is everyone else thinking?

butterflycats · 27/01/2015 11:53

Alien I had those pains at 6 weeks! As long as it's mild, and not severe on one side and no bleeding try and relax (much easier said than done!)

itssangriaoclock · 27/01/2015 12:07

Lots of good news ladies.

Themidnighthour love that you have seen you little bean jumping

I've got my scan in an hour, hoping all is in place and measuring correctly.

thecrab · 27/01/2015 12:13

Hi girls, found out on Friday I am 5 weeks along but my symptoms haven't really progressed how I imagined they would. This is my first time. My cramping has pretty much gone and that was really my only symptom (apart from the really bad greasy skin!).

Woke up this morning in a really bad mood and can't shift it - it's slowly turning into major sadness just thinking that maybe this isn't working out. I'm probably being silly but I just wanted to vent and see if anyone feels like this?

I get this is a really happy and positive thread so sorry for the negativity!

stuffthenonsense · 27/01/2015 12:19

Jackieharris I had a doula with my last baby. The first person I told about this pregnancy was her because she made such a difference to my birth. I would definitely check that any doula you book has no planned holidays for three weeks either side of your due date, and that you are not one of many clients due at the same time.

NatalieBee · 27/01/2015 12:47

My scan at epau is in an hour and a half..I am wetting myself Confused I know I've seen the heartbeat 2 and a half weeks ago but I can't help but worry because of the previous mc's Confused ah, I may pass out before I get there lol! Blush

Treaclepie19 · 27/01/2015 12:49

Good luck natalie!

Went to the doctors this morning - no early scan for me despite the pains :( 6+2
Tempted to just got to the epu.

banterbus · 27/01/2015 13:03

Good luck natalie hope it all goes well. I'm just had the most horrendus meeting and had to take my lunchbreak driving somewhere quiet so I could just cry about it all, feeling pretty pathetic atm but telling myself it's just the hormones (i hope)!

Kittykitty05 · 27/01/2015 13:05

Crab don't worry about having few symptoms at 5 weeks, as most normally kick in from 6 weeks onwards. Just enjoy feeling good whilst it lasts!

gennibugs · 27/01/2015 13:12

crab I'm 5+3 and I don't really have any symptoms. I've had some cramping but that seems to have settled down for now...

banter hope you are ok. Deep breaths. Thanks

good luck natalie

treacle sorry they wouldn't give you an early scan. Would paying for one be an option?

lovesmycake · 27/01/2015 13:14

Our doula was in Norway so the price probably isn't comparable. Yes unfortunately we had got quite far with our doula before she told us about the holiday so we decided to just risk it. In the end it probably worked out for the best I didn't feel like I needed her there everyone spoke good English as well which was my main reason for having her to communicate.

I just had my booking in appt turns out I will be seeing my Dr the whole way through not a midwife, no particular reason he said it was my choice and he speaks such good English I decided to stick with him.

Now just waiting for my 18 week scan to come through and after that I have another appointment so at 20 weeks!! Thank goodness we have a private scan booked for 12 weeks otherwise that would be a cracker of a wait!

9+2

sebsmummy1 · 27/01/2015 13:17

Had my booking in appointment. Went really well although sadly won't be seeing that midwife again due to her being off on maternity leave Grin

My age and the fibroid I had when pregnant with my son has made me consultant led. Lots of appointments and extra scans later on. Was the same with my son so I'm not too upset, I am low risk with all other factors.

TheMidnightHour · 27/01/2015 13:19

Thanks for all the excitement - I love having people to tell, who care and get it! I'm enjoying seeing everyone else's scan pics, too :)

It was lovely seeing the bean but if things had been a bit different we probably wouldn't have paid out for an early scan. A combination of various ectopic risk factors, one-sided pain, no GP and international travel (mine, 2 weeks) made getting the NHS involved impossible so it was very reassuring. It is another mark in the 'weird pains can be totally normal' column as mine have all been to the right.

Hope your scan goes well natalie

ElleyBear13 · 27/01/2015 13:27

Thank you everyone for your kind words about the scan and picture! We're both overjoyed.

NatalieBee hope everything goes well with the scan.

butterflycats I would recommend a early scan once you're past 9 weeks, the sonographer I saw at the weekend told me my odds of miscarriage are now at 2% the same as it would be at a 12 week scan. :) I was worried about going for a early scan because of mmc, like last time but i mc at 6w2d last pregnancy. I feel i can relax now. Ohh and good luck choosing the scan options we've decided against any testing (party due to increased risk of mc and the fact we'd care for the baby even if it came back with downs)

Bollyroo I'd tell them, every life no matter how brief is worth celebrating. Today you are pregnant, celebrate that. Thats how I've been since we lost Ila in September, we told inlaws when we found out with this one at 3weeks, and told everyone else after the scan. I also need the support either way!

thecrab 5 weeks is still early, be grateful for no symptoms yet :D the nausea started at the end of week 5/beginning of week 6 and the sickness started on week 7. Hormones will make you feel anxious, sad, happy, all over really. Take one day at a time!

xx

showtunesgirl · 27/01/2015 13:35

Sad I feel sooooo sick today.

sebsmummy1 · 27/01/2015 14:05

Is anyone having their flu injection? I've been advised to get it done but my GP surgery has none left and she has told me to go to a pharmacy.

sauvblanc21 · 27/01/2015 14:15

Ladies (and snow esp), I've decided I'm just gonna stop worrying (as much as I can!) and stay really positive and just hope for the best Grin Worrying will get me quite literally nowhere! Will try to hold out for 12 week scan but if I can't I can always book in a cheeky little early one. Keep smiling all xxxx
p.s. cue sobby worrying depressing post tomorrow no doubt! Wink

mspfan · 27/01/2015 14:26

Hi genni, thanks for the welcome. Hope we will be date twins!

Hello crab, I'm also 5 weeks and no symptoms apart from a few more spots and needing to wee lots! I'm sure in a couple of weeks time we'll be wishing for fewer symptoms!

Hope your scan goes well natalie and any others who have one soon.

TerrysNo3 · 27/01/2015 14:33

good luck for your scan Natalie Smile

sauvblanc21 · 27/01/2015 14:43

Eeeeeee good luck Natalie! Smile xx
