twinkle5 · 09/11/2006 11:04

alfie, I think head aches are really common at this stage, hope you feel better soon. I haven't suffered with them myself thankfully.

Re Preggie Pops: Google them and you will find a few stockists. I asked DH to order me some so he ordered 4 packets - unfortunately he ordered 4 packets all mint flavour! Quite nice but I'm not sure they do any good other than get rid of the nasty taste I have in my mouth a lot of the time.

alfiemoo · 09/11/2006 11:44

Ah thanks yes looked it up and I think headaches are quite common. LilKel - I have had dating but no nuchal date! I suppose everywhere is different but have no idea. Have you called the hospital? They might have you on a list just not sent letter yet?

sputnik · 09/11/2006 11:59

Ah yes headaches, yesterday I had headache and nausea and felt awful. I'm annoyed as last time I only got the headaches after my ms finished. Haven't actually been sick so I really feel for those of you who are, I feel like death and you must be even worse.

Have developed an aversion to a book of DD's called carrot soup, every time she wants me to read it (about 30 times a day, it's her current fave) I want to heave. No use hiding the book as she still wants me to tell the story without it. Just typing this has made me queasy, bleugh.

Finding yogurt good at the mo for settling my stomach.

for your test Sarahsausage

Trace2 welcome back, was wondering about you and Nattyandthomasandbump, hope she is ok. Seen Jiucy recently on this thread.

trace2 · 09/11/2006 12:02

thanks sputnik, glad to be back am 9 weeks and 2 days now no scan yet for me, dare not read rest of thread as was scared to whos m/c, just hope they all still here,
hows you?

Taffindra · 09/11/2006 12:20

Have just called Hosptial (Whipps Cross - anyone have any experience of it??) and booked myself in for scan (next week) and also a booking appt (week after). It really makes me wonder if I hadn't phoned, when they would have actually got in touch. They were very helpful and nice on the phone - so if any of you are worried, just try calling your ante-natal unit. And they could see me so soon, which is what really surprised me.

sputnik · 09/11/2006 12:21

Horrible, since you ask, thanks!
Particularly annoyed since I've had a few days with ms fading and thought I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Now it is back with a vengeance.
Last time I only had it a couple of weeks or so, so thought that was it.
You?

trace2 · 09/11/2006 12:44

xxtracy

Juicylucythe2nd · 09/11/2006 12:51

Glad you're (sort of) ok Trace - we've been worried about you as you've not been around much.

Let us know how you get on.

sputnik · 09/11/2006 13:01

Hope it all goes ok Trace2.
I really shouldn't moan as you and many others here have it lots worse than me.

Daisybump · 09/11/2006 14:03

Lilkel... here in Leeds if you get a nuchal fold scan they can also use this as your dating scan. We have to pay for the nuchal fold scan though...not on the NHS. Is yours?
It is really irritating that there are different things available in different parts of the country. I had ds in Edinburgh and there you only get a scan at 12 weeks. It was an age to wait as you can imagine, but there was definately a big fat baby to look at rather than the mis-shapen (but rather beautiful ) bean I saw when I was scanned at 6+4 two weeks ago.
ms symptoms seem to be calming down over the last few days....boobs not as sore as they were and not feeling as sick today. Is it just a good day (do you get good and bad days with ms or is it constantly either bad or good???) or signs of something going wrong again. Can't remeber with ds when things started to calm down on the boob front, but I didn't have any sickness with him 9just an aversion to fish in a very big way) so this is all new to me.

Glad you're back with us Trace2...did wonder where you were.

And, in defence of the poor ginger biscuit... they're doing it for me and I love ginger so can't imagine getting fed up. My mum said liquorice helps. She guzzled so much of it when she was pregnant with me though that I can't stand it!!! I did eat some 'blackjack' chews (aniseed flavour) at the weekend which seemed to help, but don't know if it was just the sugar fix. Peppermint tea seems to settle my tum as well.

Happy days to all...

Daisybump · 09/11/2006 14:05

sorry Trace...didn't read all your post. Hope things go well at the hospital and keep us posted. big

charlyp · 09/11/2006 14:15

its been ages, but have been mega busy with work, 11+1 today and scan is next friday - yippeee, seems like ages since i saw the doctor - well actually it is ages since i saw the doctor at 5 weeks and have seen noone since then!!! now have scan and then two weeks later first midwife appointment. Had some ms but never so bad I was actually sick but very little now, am abit bunged up but taking senocot powders in a drink which seems to help keep everything moving (sorry if TMI). Was wondering how everything is going for Flabbergasted following scan, fingers crossed for you. Seems like lots of new people since last posted, congrats to all. Am still not showing at all and no weight gain but am tall still going to gym so I guess thats ok - just don't look very pregnant, haven't seen anyone about it, hardly told anyone about it and its all abit surreal!!!

TALLULAHBELLE · 09/11/2006 18:04

Hey K1K2 you've got the same date as me .

I'm bit confused bout all the scan/testing business. I've a date for scan and clinic visit (at 12 weeks) but also got letter offering testing for Downs saying call for appt. Have called at least dozen times but cannot get through.Wouldn't it be done at same time anyway? Then the hosp sent leaflets about early screening and said will be asked to make a decision on this at Booking Appointment. Can anyone explain the procedures and jargon or is it different everywhere? I'm in Glasgow.

trace2 · 10/11/2006 09:23

hi all,

when i go there yesterday they sent me for a scan, and saw my little beens heart beat, thenn went to midwife have ebvery thing explained to me about all my tests, and about the triple test, then went on to consulant, she was so nice explained every thing again about with me being older the high risks! and my blood of course, am going to have daily inhections from 20 weeks to thin it out.

she also told me i wont have an other scan until 20 weeks, but she said i can go privte for a nuchal scan at 11-14 weeks, we have talked in great detail me and dh, and we are going for one, they cost anything from £130 to £190, they also gave me some numbers to ring, which going to ring today.

hope every one else is ok?

alfiemoo · 10/11/2006 09:25

Hello! Taffindra, am at Whipps Cross too! They have actually been pretty good about letting me know about 12 week scan and booking appointment. In my booking letter it had my doctor's details so I have a feeling it might have to do with the efficiency of your doctor's referral? Anyway, have my booking appt tues and scan beginning of december.

Hope ur all ok today, it's Friday! Yay! Am finding I have to wait till the weekend to have ANY energy to get stuff done!

lilKel · 10/11/2006 09:44

Hello!
Well I had 3 bagels with cream cheese yesterday. Really. It was the ONLY thing I wanted to eat. This is getting more and more bizarre!!!
Tallulah, best to confirm with your hospital's antenatal unit but probably the clinic visit at 12 weeks is the same as your booking appointment. Usually there is a dating scan to confirm the fetus size around 12 weeks and in some parts of the country or for certain risk groups (e.g. older mums) other scans or tests are offered to test for Down's syndrome. A nuchal scan is one of those tests. Sounds to me like testing and screening are the same thing. You'll get this alot, because you tend to receive a billion leaflets from different people (GP, hospital, health visitor, midwife, hospital) and they aren't consistent. Maddening, I know...

Good luck to those of you with early scans & wish me luck as I'm trying to get through to my hospital's antenatal unit to find out if I can get booked in & a dating scan. 10+2 now and fed up waiting for my GP's referral to make it to the hospital!!!

alfiemoo · 10/11/2006 10:05

Good luck, hope you manage to sort it out!
Thanks for writing about scans, was completely confused about it all as well!

lilKel · 10/11/2006 10:16

Hey all well after about 50 phone calls (including to general reception) I got through to antenatal and they confirmed my paperwork is there, so my booking appointment should be made soon. Guess they're really busy (surprise). Apparently I'll get my dating scan appt when I go in for booking. They said the dating scan can happen anywhere from 12-16 weeks - didn't realise it could happen that late!!

So, back to waiting, and waiting (patience is just not my strong suit).

The nuchal scan is on NHS here, but funnily enough I wasn't offered it last year. Does that mean I'm old at 32, but not at 31 years of age? Hmmmm....

Thank God it's Friday. DH can help get me through dinnertimes...x

Cocobear · 10/11/2006 10:45

This is looking ahead a bit, but my hospital wants to book me in for the 21- 23 week scan (they were really good about nuchal and booking appt - all scheduled). But there's an odd twist: last time, the 20+ week scan was just that, a simple scan for anomolies/baby's growth/etc. THIS time they say it will also involve a vaginal (doppler) scan to screen for pre-eclampsia. What the heck?? Anyone else heard of this? Surely there are easier ways of testing for pre-eclampsia, like taking my blood pressure and urine samples?

K1K2 · 10/11/2006 11:07

Hi Trace ( glad to see you're back and things are alright with you and your bean) and Tallulahbelle ( same EDD eh, shall we bet to see who pops first - just kidding!) thanks for your message and the others with the advice. I Googled preggie pops and bizarrely came across on on other websites that you can have your belly bump cast and can turn it into a wall or flower display. Each to their own I suppose, but what will they think of next? Re scans it is a bit of a postcode lottery what scan and when you can have it as Daisybump and others have said. I'm just booking a private nuchal as they don't do a nhs one until 20 weeks where I come from. I could ask for an earlier scan If say the right things but my nuchal is only 2 weeks away - counting the days, then I'll come official with my news perhaps, if all ok- the in laws don't know yet. And yes it's Friday, yipee! have a good weekend all

MagicGenie · 10/11/2006 14:01

Cocobear, I remember the vaginal scan from first time around. Not the nicest thing on earth but...I s'pose they've got to make sure (wince!)

I'm feeling very pleased with myself today, having had my haircut this morning. It turns out someone I know hairdresses from home; she's done it really well and only charged me £15.

I am knackered though - we had company last night and didn't get to bed til half eleven. First time I've been up beyond half nine for about three weeks!

bumperlicious · 10/11/2006 17:26

Doggus, your desciption of MS is exactly how I am feeling. Not being sick, just have a general feeling of nausea and funny head, and slightly lightheaded feeling a lot like car sickness. Especially worse in the car when DH accelerates! Bleugh!

TALLULAHBELLE · 10/11/2006 17:44

Hi,
Thanks for advice on scans - I am being offered CUB screening for Downs Syndrome because I am a geriatric (37). This seems to involve a nuchal test but the letter didn't mention if it was covered by NHS or would be done privately. I guess I can only keep calling and maybe I'll eventually get to talk to someone.

Yay to Fridays too . Have a great weekend everyone.

MagicGenie · 11/11/2006 15:04

Feeling a bit on the cack side today. Decided to venture into town this morning and had to buy emergency crisps and water to get me through!

Knackered as well, but so BORED of going to bed early. Moan moan moan!

bumperlicious · 11/11/2006 15:26

I know what you mean magicgenie - I am a social recluse as I am so tired but sooooo bored. I keep picking fights with DH bless his heart!
