Thanks Ibeka, oh 3 big tabs is off putting, so I'll prob go for plus! Alex I don't think the vodka will so any harm

whoknew28 · 07/02/2015 15:17

Alex, don't worry - you'll be fine. It's only sustained, consistent drinking that does the damage, not a one off.

Crazy - I can't quite believe it either after staring at blank bfns for so long! Feeling so cautious though after last time, won't feel like it's going to happen until I actually meet them in October, hopefully!

Anyone else going to go for an early scan? Thinking of doing one at 7/8 weeks. I know it doesn't change anything, but after a mmc, I'd rather know sooner than waiting to find out if anything's wrong at the 12 wk scan...

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 07/02/2015 15:27

Whoknew, I'm going for one at 6+6. My mmc was a blighted ovum that wasn't picked up til 11+5. I need to see for myself it isn't the same thing, even though I've had a successful pregnancy in between.

crazypuglady · 07/02/2015 15:27

alex you have done nothing sweetheart. That's 2 units. Obviously the advice is to avoid alcohol completely but most guidelines say 2 units once to twice a week is fine. You've had 2 units once by accident, don't worry.

crazypuglady · 07/02/2015 15:31

whoknew this is my first pregnancy but another 8 weeks until a scan feels like so long. Anything could happen between now and then! With a history of mmc I'd probably be asking for an early scan in your shoes too.

Coolchic12 · 07/02/2015 15:40

I'm definitely going for an early scan at around 7 weeks, I need some reassurance after early miscarriage. I'll go to FMC as they do very detailed scans and very knowledgeable.

townsender · 07/02/2015 16:31

who I'm sure with a history of mmc you can get a scan at your local EPU. Maybe phone them directly rather than go through your GP?
I got a scan last Tuesday because I started bleeding, panicked, and went to A&E, where they referred me to the EPU. Need to go back this week to check again as it was too early to see a heartbeat.
At the hospital near my work you needed an appointment for a scan at the EPU. At my local hospital, they don't take bookings, you just turn up and they see people in priority order. So, each area is different.

Question - I self referred to my hospital, rather than going through my GP. I've got my booking appointment letter, but just realised I don't have the pregnancy record booklet, or a urine sample pot, and from memory those both came in the bounty pack last time. Can anyone who already has theirs tell me where they got them from? GP receptionist?

catlady87 · 07/02/2015 16:39

Alex don't worry, think of all the ladies who don't know they're pregnant yet and carry on as normal! You'll be FINE X

Glossyflower · 07/02/2015 16:41

Alex try not to worry. I'm sure all is fine.
When I was pg with DD, and before I knew I was pg I went to my cousins wedding and got very drunk on wine, cider and also had a couple of red bulls. DD was absolutely fine. She was fine even after me not being able to eat more than a couple of mouthfuls of food a day for 10 weeks due to HG.
I would only worry if you regularly went out on major benders xxx

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 07/02/2015 16:57

Can I join you all - just got my BFP with a EDD of 14th - but very irregular cycles so could change. I have two children already, & had MMC about 18months ago so hoping all ok this time.

Daniellelouisex · 07/02/2015 17:26

Hello all :)

I have just found out i am 2-3 weeks pregnant..wow, I never ever thought I would see the positive show up on the test! Well..ive done a lot of tests and I've rang my GP to arrange a 'confirmation' as apparently this is the next step. But they won't see me! They made me ring the hospital of whom will now send me paper work that I need to fill in, send back, and then be sent a 'booking date' for around week 9.

Is this casual attitude normal? All my of pregnant friends were told to see a gp in the first few weeks. I have the support of my family but i feel a little bit lost..this is my first and i don't have a clue what to do! (the hospital did verbally tell me on the telephone the do's and donts)

Thanks in advance!

x

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 07/02/2015 17:36

I think that is the norm know - you can self-refer straight to the hospital. Have you worked out your due date?

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 07/02/2015 17:36

Now not know!

Daniellelouisex · 07/02/2015 17:39

Thank you! As long as its 'norm'. No i haven't. The thing is, I had a negative cervical smear and had to have some of my cervix removed, I am all clear now. However, this does mean I may not be able to hit 40 weeks & may only get to 37. so i guess I just have to wait until my hospital appointment!

Hotpotpie · 07/02/2015 18:39

Can I ask if anyone else is having problems less with their supplements? I've got niggling stomach cramps and I vaguely remember struggling with iron during my last pregnancy. Trying not to worry about it being anything more sinister

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 07/02/2015 18:51

Hotpot, do you take your supplement with food? I had heartburn issues with mine and taking them earlier in the day seemed to help

Hotpotpie · 07/02/2015 18:55

No, to be honest I usually take them as I wake up so I don't forget, I'll have to try that thank you

MrsEvansAlmost · 07/02/2015 18:55

town you don't get the urine pots in your bounty pack any more. I don't have one in mine! just the usual forms, magazine and a small pack of antenatal supplements x

alexmash12 · 07/02/2015 19:18

Angus, Coolchic, whoknew, CrazypugLady, Catlady, Glossy - ladies thank SO much!
Mini freak out over now thanks to your wise words. My husband has just about got his colour back.

Thank you! X

Cineraria · 07/02/2015 19:22

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. Essex, it's reassuring to know that your son was ok after your bleeding. It just felt really final when I saw that and I couldn't imagine how it could be ok.

I got my booking appointment dates today for the 25th February but still haven't got the scan one as that's at a different hospital.

Did you get your seasickness bands Angus? I was thinking of trying them as I'm nervous about vomiting again. I seem to remember someone put a link on one of the threads I was on last year to a site that sold some really pretty beaded ones, which I thought might be a bit more discreet as only a few colleagues at work know! I'll have to try to find it.

Coolchic, the Pregnacares are all a bit different so look at your diet and see which is most suitable. If it might be low in Omega 3 (needed for brain development) as you don't eat oily fish, you might want Plus or Max which has the fish oil tablets. The Max also includes calcium so might be useful if you have a diet that is low in dairy or other calcium sources (beans/dried fruit) however taking a supplement that contains calcium can inhibit iron absorption so you might still prefer to take the one without calcium and take a separate calcium supplement at a different time of day. I had an easy choice; I'm vegetarian and only the original is veggie due to the others having fish oil in a beef gelatin capsule, so I bought the original and have a separate Opti3 vegetarian Omega 3 with EPA & DHA (it comes from the same algae the oily fish eat that causes them to be rich in it!) plus I include a few calcium enriched foods like almond milk and the Tropicana with calcium to get a bit extra as I'm not keen on much dairy.

Town, the midwives gave me the pot when I turned up to the hospital last time and a carboard jug to help me fill it! They wanted me to do the sample there so they could explain that it needed to be mid flow for accurate results. I think I only got the Bounty pack and notes file later at that appointment anyway although the GP gave me the Emma's Diary book when I went last week.

sleepyMe12 · 07/02/2015 19:33

I'm really jealous of all you ladies that already have your booking appointments and scan dates already! With my last pregnancy (mmc Dec 14) I didn't get my booking appointment into I was 12 weeks and the scan was booked for 13+5 this is with them knowing about previous issues including a baby with Edwards syndrome, fingers crossed they won't be too busy this time. Hmm

HettyB · 07/02/2015 19:42

I'm so impressed that so manu of you have dates for booking in, scans, etc. this is my first so I have no idea what to do!

I've got a doctors appointment booked for Tuesday - will they book/give me a number to call and book my booking in and 12 week scan?

crazypuglady · 07/02/2015 19:55

Oh wow, looks like I have a lot to sort out! I've still got 3 months worth of folic acid and vitamin D tabs. Are these ok to keep taking? Need to call the GP to sort booking in appointment too.

Is anyone else having problems with their skin? I thought it was an allergy as I've just changed my skincare but now I think it might be related to the pregnancy as I've been back on my old stuff for 3 days and it hasn't made a difference.

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 07/02/2015 20:02

Cine, not yet, but I did a quick google that brought up Queasy Beads. A bit nicer than the sweatband style I wore last time!

HettyB · 07/02/2015 20:06

crazypuglady yes! I've never had such dry, cracked, itchy skin. It's almost like mild eczema - is that what yours is like?
