Tracey - hope you get over your bug soon! Sad

jazzy - good luck today. Smile

AnythingNotEverything · 12/01/2015 08:20

Jazzy good luck! (So jealous!)

JennyOfOldstones · 12/01/2015 08:28

Good luck today jazzy!

Anyone else getting hip pain at night from sleeping on their side? I have tried pillows but it's not helping. Do I need one of those expensive dreamgenii things?

Jackiebrambles · 12/01/2015 08:39

Good Lucy today Jazzy!

Jenny have you tried putting the pillow between your knees?
I had a dream genie and found it useful for bump support later on and between the knees to help the hip pain.

JennyOfOldstones · 12/01/2015 08:54

Thanks Jackie yes tried that last night but didn't help much. Was thinking about getting the dream genii but it's so expensive I wanted a bit of reassurance it would work!

Jackiebrambles · 12/01/2015 09:06

My friend raved about it and I must admit I couldn't figure out why until I was 6-7 months and needed the bump support! I used mine for a bit of breastfeeding support as well, til I got my boppy pillow.

katbags · 12/01/2015 09:17

Good luck Jazzy!

fortywinx · 12/01/2015 10:28

Good luck today jazzy

I'm full of cold :( Was awake at 3:30 and finally gave up trying to breathe whilst lying down and went downstairs at 5am. Managed to rest a bit propped up on the sofa even if I didn't sleep, and at least my sneezing and coughing didn't disturb OH as much.
Sneezing/coughing is now hurting my "bump" muscles and I feel like my face is in a vice. Had to come to work as we're so short staffed and I've had so much time off already with pregnancy related issues! I feel so awful :( Wish I could dose myself up and go back to my sofa!

Chookford · 12/01/2015 10:29

jazzy good luck today!!

MrsBeeBeeBee · 12/01/2015 10:32

Hello ladies, I haven't checked in in a while been so busy. But today I'm off work sick so finally have some time to myself.

Had 20 week scan on Friday and found out we're having a 2nd little girl Smile Starting to feel a bit more real now we know! Scan all went well and she looked happy and healthy.

Jenny I'm getting hip pain at night which is stopping me sleeping too. Big thick pillow between my legs helps a bit but doesn't stop it. I couldn't work out what extra the dream genii could do!

Hope everyone's doing ok xx

Chookford · 12/01/2015 10:33

mrsB congrats on your little girl! The girls are making a slow and steady comeback against all these boys! Smile

jazzyjenbo · 12/01/2015 10:48

All went well at my scan.. I will let u all know what i'm having later when i can upload my picture x

Congrats Jazzy, glad it went well.

Also pleased to hear I'm not the only one with mood swings. I spent most of the weekend in a grump, which my poor OH dealt with wonderfully. I decided yesterday that I was sick of being indoors, so dragged him up to Boxhill for a walk. Within 10 minutes of arriving, I'd decided it was rubbish and I wanted to be back home again. I'm not normally so high maintenance, it was horrible!

Thanks for all the thoughts on moses basket vs carrycot vs crib. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for a bedside crib, then into its own room in that after a couple of weeks. Then into a cotbed when the time is right.

I keep hearing about this recommendation that the baby sleeps with you until 6 months - is that really true? Do you get shopped to social services if you put them in their own room after a couple of weeks??

Chookford · 12/01/2015 11:23

jazzy congrats on good scan news!! Oooh the suspense...

clearly I put my dd in her own room at 6and a half weeks! It's what ever works best for you and your baby in my opinion! This one will be in their own room long before I the too but that's my preference, I know lots of ladies have them in their rooms long passed 6months and that works for them so really it is whatever works for you when the time comes to move them.

Tranquilitybaby · 12/01/2015 11:26

Good to hear great dcan news MrsBeeBee and Jazzy. I'm going girls for you too Jazzy!

Does anyone have a dream genii? Does it help?

fortywinx · 12/01/2015 11:39

Congrats on the good scan jazzy :)

I think I have been given a Dreamgenii by a friend-of-a-friend. I've had to google it to work out how to use it! To be honest, I'm not sure how well pillows and cushioning will work for me as OH is the sprawliest, huggiest sleeper ever, and we only have a standard double bed. Getting tangled up in pillows, blankets and limbs just sounds horrible!

In other "my day is going rubbish" news, I dropped my doughnut on the floor. I ate it anyway. All dignity is gone.

Glad your scan went well jazzy.

The 6 month thing is true and the midwives and health visitors will advise you stick to it. It is to reduce the risk of SIDS and personally I would never forgive myself if anything happened and I hadn't done everything as recommended, like putting them on their back too (I take the same approach during pregnancy). They said something about the baby hearing you breathing and it can help regulate theirs. Or something like that anyway, no idea if that's right. I'm not preaching though, just saying what's recommended and what we chose to do - it's up to everyone to decide what's best for them.

My scan is later! I'm nervous as the tiny amount of movement I was having has stopped again.

Jackiebrambles · 12/01/2015 12:31

Yeah the sids advice is same for daytime naps too, they are meant to be in same room with you for them.

It's hard because babies, even sleeping ones, can be v noisy! Snuffling/snoring etc so if you are a light sleeper it's tricky!

I wouldn't have wanted ds away from me early, but at 4 months due to the cot issue and space we decided to try it out and see how we felt.

cuphat · 12/01/2015 12:35

Yes, babies can be very noisy sleepers! But Ewan the dream sheep worked wonders on us as well as DD Grin

speedbird17 · 12/01/2015 12:36

Totally went into it with DD, expecting her to be in with us for 6 months, at 4 weeks she went into her room as all 3 of us were waking each other up with snuffling/snoring/sniffing and as DH did not get any leave I was petrified of him having an accident on his commute.

Once she went into her room with a monitor we all slept better and she started sleeping through a few weeks later. For us we took all of the guidelines into consideration with our personal circumstances and did what was right for us! Guidelines are there for best practice, but in all honesty parenting is about finding what works best for you as a family!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 12/01/2015 12:48

Forty Grin

Interesting to read about sleeping arrangements as a first timer. I didn't know babies slept with you at all til I first got pregnant. the things you have to learn.

cuphat - hope all goes well.

jazzy and mrsb - great news re scans. Smile

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/01/2015 12:55

Blooming heck this thread moves fast!

Re: Sleeping arrangements, im a ftm as well. I know the advice is first 6 months but I might watch wait and see.

Need to start looking into all the different monitors. Just so much to take on board. Trying my best not to get bogged down in it though. Otherwise nothing will get done.

Does anyone feel like an alien is trying to break through. Dull pressure at one side of abdomen. Don't know if baby moving stretching or head butting!! Or if they even big enough to do any of that!!

Rosie888 · 12/01/2015 13:08

Good news on the scan Jazzy.

I'm 16+3 today; just curious about when you all started to feel your little one? This is my first, not sure if that makes a difference.
