Another grotty cold/cough here - it's grim isn't it? Had one of my vicious pregnancy headaches yesterday as well, couldn't venture further than the bed - my supervisor is looking less and less likely to get this thesis draft by June...

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 24/01/2015 14:10

Trying, my dh has taken to setting a reminder on his phone when I have a haircut so he knows to compliment me Grin. I must book one got half term actually, not been shorn since October and my "fringe" is below my nose....

Struggling a bit today with painful bump and ribs. Was quite worried earlier but sitting still seems to have eased it off... Sadly sitting still not much of an option with dd. Not often I'm glad of the excuse to sit and do my school planning but today it's preferable to playing Hmm

Have just had a horrendous experience buying our pushchair in JL! We still can't believe how terrible the experience was. We'd been in a few weeks ago to have a look at it and the very helpful member of staff told us to come back to the store to order it when we were ready and she knew exactly how she'd do it (as we need two pushchair seats and a carrycot). The lady today, while polite was totally incompetent! As soon as we said what we wanted she tried to send us away to order online (this can't be done for all the parts we need - which is why we were told to come back to the store). She then almost ordered three pushchairs (a double set and a single) which we had to point out to her. Then she refused to believe that you would need a converter kit to add the second seat we want on the frame. She said that by ordering an extra seat it would come with that - which it definitely doesn't. It took 10 minutes of disagreeing, looking at the pushchair and her rolling her eyes before she realised her mistake.

All this took 55 minutes while DD was stuck in her pushchair. Some bits were in stock, some had to be ordered and she said we'd only pay for the in stock stuff today which clearly wasn't the case when it came to pay as the amount was for everything, in stock or not. She was still saying we'd have to pay the extra when the items come in stock until DH added up the cost of the items for her! And to top it off she couldn't even find a way to order the carrycot and is getting back to us.

DH is very laid back and rarely complains about anything (I've never know him to in fact) but he went straight to customer services to complain! And instead of just apologising they said she was a very experienced member of staff (!) and tried to make excuses for her. He's taking it further as he is so disappointed in their customer service. She definitely needs further training!

Can't believe we're spending £1200 and we're still not confident that we'll have all the parts we need. We're tempted to cancel the whole thing and get it from elsewhere but I'd rather have the pushchair from them as customer service is supposed to be great if things go wrong with the frame. We're going to order the carrycot from elsewhere.

Sorry for the rant.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/01/2015 15:27

Cup that sounds like an absolute farce! John Lewis are normally so good too. Do take your complaint further. It doesn't matter how experienced the assistant was, she didn't know her stuff, couldn't complete you transaction today, and tried to overcharge you!

Thanks both. I'm still feeling really stressed by it all, I may even have had a BH on the way back (not sure as I've never had one before!). Ha and I said she was polite (which she was overall)! The eye rolling was at DH when he was trying to show her the converters that we need on the display model.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/01/2015 16:11

She obviously forgot that nobody knows their shit like a parent who has done their research Grin

cuphat · 24/01/2015 16:21

Grin yep! They were selling the kit for £50, they weren't going to give it away for free! I pity the poor people who might have ordered through her not long before their due date!

cuphat · 24/01/2015 16:30

And to top the day off we couldn't find any shoes to fit DD! I've started a thread under a different name for privacy purposes but no one has responded. She's an I width and Clarks only go up to H. They said going up a size in an H width would work but she also has a high instep so none of their shoes would fit! Jones were no good either and we don't know where else to go, I can't see any on the Internet either (though she needs to try them in person really).

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I used to have the opposite problem with a very narrow C width. I used to have to get horrid black lace up shoes made to measure but I can't find anywhere that does that now. DD must get her feet from DH! Feel really sorry for her actually, she's only 19 months.

That's why I've taken a career break; nurseries are £50 a day here and if I take into account cost of transport to work and the fact that I'd have to do less hours so I could take and pick DD up then it's really not worth me working.

My niece is in nursery and hers isnt flexible at all but I'm sure some will be. It's worth looking into now though so you have one less worry.

Oh Cup that sounds absolutely maddening! Good on you for escalating the complaint.

Tori I've been worrying about childcare costs too - anyone else been reading that 'thread of the day' about the cost of having children?
My partner and I are both lucky enough work in fields that are very freelance and flexible (though his is a lot better paid than mine!) so have been hoping that will buffer us from the worst of the costs. Though I think he pictures having a couple of childcare bods on call we can book as and when we need them, whereas (have done a bit of work in nurseries and childcare myself) I'm thinking we need to think more about having a regular 2-3 days a week and organise/book ourselves around that, as high-quality, super short-notice pre-school childcare is quite hard to find in my book.

cuphat sounds like a nightmare, hope you get all the right bits.

Child care is all up in the air with us, as I am selling my childhood home there will be a lot of money left after I ve bought a house, so for first time in my life I will be able to afford to chill, spend time with the baby without money concerns. We are looking to buy a business, but obviously we can hire people so we can have flexible working time. I do fully appreciate how lucky I am, as many friends are only able to afford 6 months maternity before going back to work full time.

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/01/2015 17:59

Purchased a pair of h+m maternity jeans today. I wasn't expecting the fake button to be placed so low down and devoted quite some time to trying to pull the jeans further up despite it being fairly clear they were up as far as they were going to go. Result? Friction burns on my finger tips Blush

To think I am going to be in charge of a tiny, helpless human in a few months!

Great news on your scan Fudge and another one son. Too!

Ive bought far too much now, need to slow down really, but there's a lot of bargains out there this month!

Ive bought pram, car seat and base, clothes, cotbed, grobags, steriliser, feeding cushion, sling, nappies Wink and breast pads. Oops,

Cuphat, that's crap service isn't it? Is it a bugaboo donkey you're ordering?

Tranquilitybaby · 24/01/2015 18:11

Ah that's goods sunbathing, so nice.

I feel the same, excited at times but mostly a bit scared and wary. Once the 20 week scan is out the way and hopefully baby is fine, I can relax a bit.

Thanks everyone. Tranquility, it's the icandy peach blossom 3. But for some reason their (JL) system only lets you order it with two black or two pink seats which we don't want so we're having to order the pushchair, then the adapters, second seat and carrycot (as well as things like the parasol and clamps etc) separately to get the colour we want.

Glad you're feeling more relaxed now sunbathing.

Chookford · 24/01/2015 19:18

fudge congrats on good scan news!!

comeagainforbigfudge · 24/01/2015 20:51

Thanks peeps. So excited now it's all a bit more real!

Still not bought a thing though. Will start soon.....

ToriB34 if you live near an airport try looking for nursery linked/near it. They might be more flexible with drop off times/days?
