I don't think anyone is offended, jazzy. A lot of people use those terms on mn. I'm very girly myself and I like pink!

bubalou · 09/01/2015 22:21

I completely agree with the colour thing but it is just a short hand.

I hate pink. Sorry to those whose girls love pink as I know it happens with most girls but I have politely told family who know about my pink aversion that if this is a girl that any pink / too girly clothes bought will be taken back.

Not in a rude way at all - I know that makes me sound like a bitch but I have bought a couple of crocodile outfits and other things that are for boys that I will be putting on my girl.

I'm not up for the whole boys / girls thing. People tell DS 'not to be a girl' etc when he cries which I HATE and always get really cross at.

Confused

Another vote for the Ikea poang!

We had one in our living room anyway and breastfeeding can knacker your back so posture is important. I fed sat up in bed at night / the morning but the rest of the time I tried to use the poang as it was very comfortable. The arms I found useful for leaning on.

It's in DS' room now and we have stories in it before bed!

My mum also bought me a boppy breastfeeding pillow which I found really useful too.

I had a feeding pillow for the early days for supporting me on the sofa but at night I just fed sat up in bed. That was winter though so it shouldn't be quite as cold this time around.

I bought a wooden rocking chair and some nice cushions for DD's bedroom and that's where we do sleeping bag and stories now. I like absentmindedly rocking on it while we cuddle up.

Also not offended at all Jazzy. Just an interesting discussion point, I suppose. Thanks for all your work on the spreadsheet.

Bazza2 · 09/01/2015 22:41

We have what I think is an older Poang than the one they have right now and I was planning on stealing it to take upstairs, I'm pleased to hear others think it's a good one. Thanks!

Mummyosborne1983 · 10/01/2015 00:59

Just marking my place :)

cuphat · 10/01/2015 08:30

I couldn't have lived without my breastfeeding pillows, I had my Theraline long maternity pillow downstairs and the Dreamgenii donut pillow upstairs. I sat up in bed to feed with the donut pillow. They meant I could feed with both hands free which was very useful! I used the donut pillow till 17 months!

Baby boy will be in DD's girly sleepsuits and vests - that doesn't bother me at all, although it will other people.

SpodoKomodo · 10/01/2015 08:48

No offense re colours here! I'm very non pink and my DD has a blue room (jools Oliver little bird), black pram and neutral everything else. I also secretly returned any baby pink clothes she was given Blush But now at 2 she's a massive Sofia the First and Frozen fan and has succumbed to most things girlie. So that's me told! Grin

rolypolybird84 · 10/01/2015 08:52

jazzy also not in the slightest bit offended! I also hadn't noticed the thread title but doesn't offend! Thank you for organising us all so well!

Recently I overheard a mum say to her little boy toddler after he picked up a pink plastic toy "Yuk! It's pink! Eurgh! You don't want that! That's for girls!"

I appreciate she probably just wanted him to stop messing about in the shop but she was unintentionally implying that (a) if he was interested in it he was wrong to like it and (b) there is something unpleasant about being a girl. These messages start really early and we don't even realise we are doing it! I include myself in that.

A question...people who have felt movement...I can quite regularly feel something but it's not low down at all it's quite high near belly button. Is it possible that this is movement? It's also still quite early as first pregnancy 16+3...

SpodoKomodo · 10/01/2015 09:09

Yes roly I believe it is. This is my second pregnancy and I'm 16 + 3 and most of my movement has been around there. I wasn't 100% positive that's what it was but when the MW was struggling to find the HB earlier this week I told her I thought I was feeling movement higher up and low and behold .. Smile

Bazza I replied to you on old thread by mistake.
I don't object to pink and blue, just the lack of anything else! My dd has all the toys, car seats, highchairs etc that my son had. I choose toys like playmobil 123 and duplo for her that are gender neutral. My son happily sings along to frozen and is currently wearing a hair clip! I feel happy I am providing equal opportunity for play for both, so we'll see what happens in a few years. The nursery for this baby will be unisex also, even though we are finding out the sex in advance. I just like bright colours for kids!

ememsmum · 10/01/2015 10:31

I don't like pink and never wanted to dress DD in pink however most of her clothes come from my generous neighbours and are very girly! I did buy her a top with a motorbike on it which she loves. She also unfortunately loves Peppa Pig but I've managed to buy her fairly neutral Peppa clothes so far. The only pink toys she has were gifts. Her nursery has animal wall stickers so unlike my friend who decorated her nursery in the most sweetest soothing (unstimulating) baby blue it does not need redecorating now she's a bit older.

I absolutely hate going into shops and seeing aisles of pink, blue and white.

ememsmum · 10/01/2015 10:32

Babies like other colours!!!

comeagainforbigfudge · 10/01/2015 10:47

Oh gawd I hate baby pink and baby blue. To be clear I have no objection to either colour. I just hate those pastel shades. Or with the thread title jazzy

I've also said I don't want either colour to my family/friends. We don't know baby sex yet (and I don't wanna know til born) but close family member was the same with her child so will no doubt have hand me downs in lots of lovely colours with minimal pink/blue.

I do however object to upstairs neighbour letting 1.5 year old run like a headless chicken about their flat til he falls and starts wailing like a banshee at 6.30 in the morning. A SATURDAY AT THAT!!
If they got carpets it'd be more muffled so I wouldn't mind as much. But no.

(Slinks off in grumpy mood to have shower)

katbags · 10/01/2015 11:02

Hi everyone. Can I join in please?

I'm Kat. Due 17th June with first baby. We have 20 wk scan on 28th Jan and will be finding out gender.

Had a sneak preview yesterday when the midwife struggled to find heartbeat on doppler so sent me to have a cheeky additional scan. All looked good with the bub and we got a tentative team pink but not confirmed!

Please let me know if I've missed anything. Looking forward to chatting with you all Smile

PregnantAndEngaged · 10/01/2015 11:14

Hey all :) New to the thread (well I posted in it a while ago once and then life got super busy)... I know most people are mid-way through their pregnancies now but hope I'm not too late to join the party! puppy eyes

I'm 17+1 and my 20 week scan is on 30th Jan... can't wait to find out the sex :D Although I'm at the stage now where I'm genuinely not wishing for either a boy or a girl, just want a healthy baby :) Will be great to know though because then the excitement of shopping for baby stuff starts :D

PregnantAndEngaged · 10/01/2015 11:14

Meant to say I'm due 19th June :)

Hi SunbathingCat Grin

Just to add to the current discussion - I am also one that isn't really a fan of blue or pink as they are gender stereotypes in my opinion. I'd like to do lots of different colours like yellows, greens, orange etc as well. I also like animal costumes :) We've already got a bear suit (but bought it for 6-12 months because it's meant for cold weather) and a tigger costume lol. Soooo many clothes already (mostly unisex though, so white/cream with cute things on them e.g. winnie the pooh. Most were presents from people for Christmas, but they are for 3-6 months because me and my fiancé want to buy the baby's first clothes in an excited frenzy when we find out the sex lol.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 10/01/2015 11:39

Welcome kat and pregnant

sunbathing I seem to be having same issues as you regarding headaches, insomnia (didn't sleep til 7am last night), upset tummy and not appearing to put any weight on.

JennyOfOldstones · 10/01/2015 11:54

pregnant I love animal costumes too! My baby will be in nothing else until it can tell me to stop! And a bear outfit is unisex so it won't matter if it is a boy or a girl!
