Comeagain - yay for good scan news.

Cuphat- sorry you had a stressful day!

I got my first pack of nappies today...purely for the freebie stuff I got with them. I've emptied a drawer in the spare room/nursery to put baby stuff in. I might spend some time tomorrow clearing the room a bit.

I had a brief gander at childcare the other week as well. Looking at around £500-600 a month for 3 days a week. Crikey! Confused Its literally across the road from my work which is handy. Hoping to have a sit down with hubs sometime to go through budgets/my plans. I can see why people take career breaks or are planning on two close together. As I'm main wage earner, not going to happen for us.

Hope people with retched colds, coughs, headaches and general pregnancy crappiness feel better soon.

ChatEnOeuf · 24/01/2015 22:16

Tori call up the nursery and ask. When I did with the one DD goes to, they were brilliant - I book two regular days and then one 'floater' day. It can be different each week, or carried over to a different week (for example when doing four nights in a row). I rarely needed extra days, but if I did they were always happy to slot her in - and I got a 5% NHS discount! There it is, the perk of the job It was also really important for my sanity that if I wasn't working one of the two days, I had peace and quiet to get stuff done - bliss. Only downside was that when I was working she was always the first in and the last out :)

I've only bloody lost the newborn insert for the car seat...the cat was asleep on it last I remember, about three years ago Grin

AnythingNotEverything · 24/01/2015 23:22

Chat - I'm terrified I won't be able to find all the newborn bits for our car seats ... I'm really hoping they're tucked in the Moses basket but I daren't look!

Cuphat - do you have an independant kids shoe shop? They tend to have a much wider range thanClarks and apparently the staff know which styles suit which feet. Can be dearer but worth it I suspect. (They also have really amazing shoes.)

Thanks Anything, I don't know of any but I guess there must be one somewhere! I didn't realise they'd have a better selection, I assumed it would be worse but will do some more research. I'd pay whatever as she just needs shoes!

Thanks trying.

Still stressed about it all today! And we're going to have to change the order quickly before they despatch as we've noticed a problem with the seat combination (you can't use the second seat as a single in future which we didn't realise - JL didn't tell us this despite knowing our plans but I discovered it during night-time googling!).

Also, I know some people are interested in the peach so they can convert for future babies, but as a warning, you can't order the normal length carrycot for the first baby as you won't be able to use it for the second baby with a seat. There's a special carrycot to use as a double with a seat so unless you want to pay another £160 on top of £195 for the larger one then just order the second one to start off with. It's quite a lot smaller though but there's no way around it.

Deutschybaby · 25/01/2015 08:26

Hi everyone! I haven't posted for ages and ages (as in, I'm sure it was before Christmas!) but Ive been reading when I can and so think I'm caught up with everyone! Sorry to those who have extra worries and are unwell, etc. I'm 20+3 and had our scan on 21st jan - baby was very very wriggly (not like dainty DD who raised a leg elegantly at the scan and that was it!) so am expecting a different natured baby! We found out that we're having a girl and we're thrilled! But we've not told anybody else that we've found out which I like but am finding it really hard! It's definitely amusing to hear people's predictions now.

I'm really struggling with work now, lots of reports due and marking coming out of my ears. Plus revision classes coming up for my exam classes. June baby isn't well timed when thinking about work stress - working to get students through exams, then I leave just as if normally have 15 more free lessons a fortnight because of gain time. Then I'll go back in January 2016 to start the exam cycle all over again. Oh well, I don't think I'll even think about that once June arrives!

I hope everyone's having a nice weekend. I'm about to get a rare 6 hours to myself, wahey Marking and planning! (It's actually not so bad when I've got some nice music on and snacks at the ready..Wink )

Deutschybaby · 25/01/2015 08:30

Oh and cuphat have you got a shop near you that sells startrite? My little girl had a really high instep and they've always been good fits, whereas sometimes we've struggled with Clarks. Their website should have a list of independent retailers who stock them (and I know that my John Lewis does). Not sure how they are with wide feet now, but they were good when my sister (now 30!) was little.

cuphat · 25/01/2015 08:41

Glad your scan went well, deutschy, congrats! What a shame that the timing is causing you extra work stress.

Thanks deutschy, according to the website start rite also only do up to an H width but we'd be willing to try a larger size in H in case they fit. However our local stockist is JL (right next to pushchairs!), not sure if you saw my saga above! We were supposed to try shoes on first in there yesterday but DH said we might as well order the pram/ pushchair first as we knew what we wanted and it would be quicker!!! He now won't set door in that store ever again. But if we can get a list of a few different shops then we'd be willing to travel and look at them all in a day. We're going to try brantano today which is not where I'd have chosen to go bearing in mind that we have no idea about fit and I'm not sure their staff are trained in kids fitting but they do seem to do start rite and hush puppies on their website.

Tranquilitybaby · 25/01/2015 08:57

Glad your scan went well deutschy and a girly!

I keep waking up on my back, trying to stick to left side sleeping only.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 25/01/2015 09:06

Deutschy - glad to see you back. Congrats on girlie scan news.

I had the worst night's sleep. In the end, I must have rolled on to my back (bliss, but I know it's wrong). Hubs was snoring and I felt like punching him. Cat decided lying on my hip was great. It's no good, I'll look I to pillows today.

Today I need to do the lamb (bought before I got morning sickness, so October), bakes for hubs, bake for work (everyone seems a bit stressed and brownies tend to help), General housework and make a start on the nursery drawers. Best get my lazy bum out of bed then. Brew

Tryingreallyhard84 · 25/01/2015 09:07

Tranquillity - seems we're having the same sleep thing. Back is so comfy but bad. Sad

Thanks all, I'm going to try and be more with it from now on and post!

I also wake up on my back all the time and feel really guilty. I might get a pillow - didn't have one last time and never really felt comfortable in bed with a big bump.

tori Id definitely say that all trips/plans are out for June/late may!

I'm quite excited, we've just booked our NCT course. I wasn't so sure because it was so pricey but dh was very keen and it'll feel nice to have some thorough baby revision. I was 22 with my last baby and in my final year at uni - I was too busy going to and from London, where I was studying, and South wales, to think about courses. But now we're settled in one place, and itll be nice to meet other expecting parents. My two best friends are from a Breastfeeding group when DD was little, I hope I'm as lucky this time and meet nice people! Our course starts end of April.

Emz1989 · 25/01/2015 10:32

Hi Deutschy - another teacher here, feeling your bad timing pain! I'm primary though so at least I won't have to face exam season on my return after Christmas too! I was actually the 3rd teacher to announce my pregnancy in as many weeks, in a fairly small primary school you can imagine the drama this has caused! It's going to be supply city and the others aren't particularly pleased about it!! Trying not to feel guilty though...
Just curious have any of you been doing any pregnancy classes? I was a regular gym/boxercise goer until I found out I was pg, and have basically done nothing since! Finally feeling like I've got enough energy to venture back into the world of exercise but have no idea where to start! Quite fancy yoga or an aqua class but struggling to find anything local that doesn't cost a fortune!

Deutschybaby · 25/01/2015 10:46

Emz Sounds a bit like my school situation! I'm in a secondary school but our building (MFL and Welsh depts) have had 3 babies and now have 2 pregnant (me and my boss) in this academic year! Theres a lot of subtle/not so subtle comments about the state of the department with so many maternity covers and how there must be something in the water! I'm trying not to think about it too much but I do feel guilty. At least our Mat covers will have an easier time of it!

I quite fancy yoga but haven't managed to arrange it yet.

Deutschy... Welsh dept? Are you South wales? I teach in Barry!
I've been getting a few twinges in my lower back/bottom and have been advised to try yoga... Will make it my mission this week to find a suitable class to try!

Deutschybaby · 25/01/2015 11:28

emz I'm in the same authority as Barry - small world!

Chookford · 25/01/2015 11:45

deutschy congrats on your baby girl!

htf2 · 25/01/2015 12:22

morning all, must remember my bump pic today. I'd be happy to start a new thread but can't see how to put a link in here... anyone know how to do that?

htf2 · 25/01/2015 12:22

hmm - experimenting. Will probably use up the thread while I do :P

Congrats on your baby girl Deutchy.

I used to work in Barry Emz! Small world (well when you live in South Wales it is!).

cuphat · 25/01/2015 17:35

Emz, I was a regular Jillian Michael-er before getting pregnant. I was so ill with colds and coughs for five weeks that I couldn't work out and I didn't think it was sensible to start working out strenuously again after such a break. Good job, as I then developed PGP (due to all the coughing) for a week! I'm taking it easy now as I don't want to risk it coming back. I have an Erin O'Brien pregnancy DVD (pre and post natal workouts) which is good. I'm not one for public classes (I really go for it at home and don't think I would in a class), the only thing I like doing in public is running. I can't wait to start the Jillian Michaels again, but will have to wait a while as having a c-section.
