Wow there are lots of scans this week!

sun I think you're right, those of us not finding out must be having girls to even out these odds! Grin I'm sure I am anyway!

traceybaybee · 18/01/2015 21:44

trying alexander is a fantastic name it just so happens to be my surname Grin lol. I have a funny feeling if baby behaves for the sonographer ill be told im having a wee girl

Rosie888 · 18/01/2015 21:44

I agree with sunbathingcat all the girls are unknown and i'm convinced i'm having a boy too!

We've picked names, we absolutely love Arthur for a boy and Clara for a girl.

Just out of curiosity is anybody else finding the weight gain thing difficult to deal with, i have no idea whats normal, ive put on 3kg and im 17w2d?! Im a size 8 but struggling to accept im getting bigger! I know i sound so daft but its good to share :)

ememsmum · 18/01/2015 21:51

For weight gain, I go by 0.5kg per week after 1st trimester. So, by 20w I should have only put on 4kg. I've put on 3.75 but probably half of that is chocolate and biscuits Blush. Last pg I put on 16kg in total but actually lost 1kg between 40-42 weeks due to not being able to eat much for dinner.

I am/was a gym bunny so find it hard to watch my bum get a bit bigger and hate feeling like I'm losing my fitness. Am not gymming nearly as much thus time as prev pg.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 18/01/2015 22:01

I ve not put any weight on at all, altho I have had to go up to size 14 knickers but all my other clothes are fine, possibly because I tend to wear jeggings and leggings at the moment due to house sorting.
Maybe adding :pot, noodle, cheese, onion or walker to the baby names list as that seems to be what I am craving at the moment.... Thankyou Tesco for your buy one get one free on the 12 bag packs.

traceybaybee · 18/01/2015 22:07

From october to december id put on 4lb i thought id of put on more than that

impatienceisavirtue · 18/01/2015 22:13

rosie I wouldn't worry over 3kg! That's a perfectly normal amount, don't worry.

I, however, look about seven months gone pmsl

Phryn · 18/01/2015 22:14

Lovely jazzy (aka queen of the stats) I'm having my scan on Tues 20th this week. I've kept meaning to update the stats list but rarely use mumsnet on the laptop.

I'm with those finding in a bit odd to put on weight. Pre - pregnancy I weighed 10 stone 4 pounds, have gone up to 11 stone at 20 weeks. According to webmd that's okay though as they say....

"In general, you should gain about 2 to 4 pounds during the first three months you're pregnant and 1 pound a week during the rest of your pregnancy."

Still feels odd to be above 11 stone again. In 2009-2010 I lost 1.5 stone before getting married (was 11.5 stone at my heaviest) and have kept it off since. Hopefully post baby that experience will come in handy!

Doing less exercise is feeling weird. I'm doing antenatal pilates which is great but want to add something else beyond just walking. Does anyone have any good pregnancy fitness DVD or wii reccomendations?

Tranquilitybaby · 18/01/2015 22:17

Oh so many scans this week, how exciting! There's going to be lots of scan pics on here.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/01/2015 22:21

I'm finding the weight gain a bit odd.

Finding out that people think it is ok to say things like "you've definitely put on weight" when not even talking about the pregnancy is something I find makes me feel violent urges even stranger. Rude fuckers.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 18/01/2015 22:26

Rosie I can sympathise with that - I had some pretty rubbish eating disorder type rubbish going on during my teens/early 20s and did struggle with the weight gain last time. I lost it quickly enough afterwards although my fitness and muscle tone wasn't great - lack of exercise on my part. This time round my will power regarding food had been shocking so i clearly don't care anymore!!

We have boys names shortlisted as we both still like the names we didn't use with dd. Girls names are harder though, have s few lined up but can't find "the" name yet. Also burnt our bridges giving dd 2 middle names, both family names but feel like we've exhausted them a bit!! First timers - consider carefully!!

I have my scan on Wednesday too Smile Intention is to keep gender a secret so hopefully baby won't be flashing!

impatienceisavirtue · 18/01/2015 22:27

ali it's completely inappropriate. Pregnancy shouldn't make such things a free for all. A woman at work wouldn't drop it about how much weight I've put on and how it wasn't normal, it made me really uncomfortable tbh. I know I've got far, I don't need telling it's 'not normal'

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/01/2015 22:33

I agree impatience. I'm still in my usual clothes so haven't put on that much weight, just look fuller in the face. The last woman who said it to me caught me at the wrong moment and instead of silently seething as I usually would, I told her in no uncertain terms that I found it inappropriate. Oddly she then got really defensive! Suppose pregnant women are expected to just accept the shitty remarks with no comment Hmm

Hello all, I have been reading and running over the last week but just checking in to say that at 20 weeks I have finally felt first definite baby movements! Hurrah! Amazing! Was starting to get a bit despondent. Lots of scans this week, mine is on Thursday :). Hope everyone is well!

cuphat · 18/01/2015 22:38

We've more or less decided on our name, we think. We both had the same favourite months ago but have decided against it for various reasons. We've also decided against the name that we would have used if DD had been a boy. It just doesn't feel right to us to use it. DD has two middle names; one from my family and one from DH's. We're doing the same with this one. We've decided on them; the first one isn't ideal with our surname but we're hoping that the second middle name will break it up and make it sound better. And middle names are rarely used anyway.

I know a few people who are expecting babies before me or who have recently had them. I've been panicking that one of them will use the name we're more than likely to go for. One of them has used it as a middle name so far. To be honest, even if someone used it as a first name we would still use it as they aren't close enough for me to care that much.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 18/01/2015 22:43

I can honestly say I am really excited at prospect of checking into mn each day this week looking at all those lovely scans happening. I don't know if it's just me but the time seems to be going so quickly.
The mw I saw at booking in said to me that everyone's pregnancy is different, everyone puts weight on at different times, in different places and there's no such thing as "not normal", as pregnancy is not a perfect science. Pregnancy is tough as it is, without work colleagues etc throwing in comments about weight etc.

Smugnogplease · 18/01/2015 22:45

jazzy I have mine on Thursday:) @ 9am and I'll be 20+5 really hoping the placenta is anterior and that's the reason his kicks are still very low down as I'm sure with prev dc by now the kicks were visible!

HexyQueen · 18/01/2015 23:53

Jazzy my scan is on Tuesday too. V excited and less scanxiety than last time perversely, but think that is down to this being my 4th scan & sonographer saying she was obliged to tell us if she found any problems at 16 week gender scan, & she didn't. (same hospital has done my 12 week NHS scan & 16 week private one, & this NHS 20 week one)

elizabeth I love the name Ishbel. We are same with my step son who has lived with us for 9 years & DD & this baby; they are simply siblings, not "half "anything. DSS is 17 & even though we are not as close as we were (the last few teenage years have been awful) he is their full brother, they his sisters, no discussion to be had.

As for weight, having lost weight through hyperemesis & only being a size 8 to start with, all my weight increase has been bump & boobs, totally on my front (despite a valient chocolate eating binge over Xmas). Guess that's why you can see baby movements on my tummy cos all the fat has gone. But it has made me a different shape from last pg, esp when braxon hicks are in full flow, then bump becomes v tight and almost pointy!!!

chook glad your Nan's op was ok.

bubalou · 19/01/2015 08:15

Yay at all the scans coming!

Mine is tomorrow too. Early at 8am.

My DS - 6 is coming which will be so special and my mum who works in a different department at the large hospital it's held at is coming too.

I hope baby behaves.

On the downside I have tonsillitis brewing. Almost certainly. I've had it so many times but not for a while now. I'm guessing because I've got a urine / kidney infection which I will get results from today - my immune system has lowered and that's why I've caught this.

Hopefully antibiotics will get rid of both! Smile

Good luck to everyone having their scans this week :)

I've got an appointment with a consultant at the hospital today because I had a heart operation as a child. I'm quite nervous actually because I'm scared of what impact this could have on my pregnancy/labour/the baby. Hope everything will be fine :/
