Yey frolic brill news.

Also don't agree with bmi still being used. It's been proved wrong on so many levels yet everywhere still uses it! It's completely ridiculous.

So I've been car shopping today as well. I had hoped my current car would last another year so I wouldn't have any payments coming out whilst on maternity leave but it was starting to look like it would need work on it so it seemed a better option to upgrade. Tested 3 different cars before going to the dealer of my current car because I was determined that I wanted a different one. Anyway I didn't fall in love with any of them and I felt the boots in them all would be a struggle to fit prams in etc. I have a honda civic at the moment and it's just brilliant for space. So I test drove a civic and loved the feel of it and knew already I liked the space so I've gone for the same. But it's diesel so better fuel economy etc.

I was so bothered abut having space esp with a baby on the way. I'd hate to have got the wrong one and then been frustrated by struggling to fit things into it. My current civic fits my friends bugaboo donkey into it so I know I'll get away with most prams.

So excited now. I love shiny new things. Not that it's completely brand new but near enough heehee.

Skeppers · 18/01/2015 19:29

Hi hi everyone! waves vigorously

Can I join in? I'm expecting Skep Jr #1 on (EDD) 12th August. I'm 36 so a bit late to the game. My main concern is that, so far, I've been feeling absolutely hunky dory; no puking, aches (apart from the boobs)...NOTHING. Actually feeling in rude health! Have managed to convince myself that I'm not actually upduffed, despite what the two missed periods and tests say! Midwife reassures me that it's perfectly normal. First scan is on 4th Feb. Think it will put my mind at rest...I've never been broody and the positive test was a bit of a surprise...but I've sort of become attached to the idea now! Smile

Guyropes · 18/01/2015 19:56

So glad to hear your good news, frolic! I've just got a few days to wait til my first scan, starting to get a bit anxious.

Love the bump pictures! Sorry I'm not posting one yet, It's just podge at the moment! I need to go into town tomorrow, so I might have a look at some maternity trousers... Tummy just feels so sensitive (with all the bloating!) with a waistband squeezing it.

I sympathise with others with high bmi, I discovered mine was 29, the midwife didn't seem to think this was a problem, but I have been worrying about whether it will cause problems later on... And will they be able to scan me through the podge?
Still feeling nauseous, so sticking to proper food, but can be swayed by crisps...

Honda civic is a great car, dozy, my mum had one, and I think it fitted several different car seats we went through. (Or is it the car seats that fit the car? Anyway, ykwim!)

Hi skeppers... Congrats andEnvy about the rude health! Enjoy it, I hope it stays that way for you!

Loving all the bumps :) Here's my 11 week bump :) I think most of it is bloat but I prefer to think it's an early appearance from baby!

I was annoyed because the midwife worked my bmi out wrong and put it higher! I may have corrected her got cross as I'm not in the overweight category and have to work out bmis all the time as a nurse. It is now correct on my paperwork even though I agree with you all its a load of rubbish haha :)

sianihedgehog · 18/01/2015 22:27

Skeppers I'm the same. Not even much boob pain. I wonder if maybe it's actually easier if you're older? I'm 37, so on the late side myself.

Dozygirl · 18/01/2015 22:35

Welcome skeppers. You're due around the same as me. I've not got a scan date yet. I'll be wishing the time away once I do though. Feb was when they originally were gonna do my booking in appt never mind sorting out the scan but thankfully that's Tuesday now.

Skeppers · 19/01/2015 10:33

sianihedgehog thank you! That makes me feel so much better! I read about all these pregnant women and their awful, terrible symptoms- endless vomiting, nausea, aches- and think that I'm doing something wrong. Apart from being a bit tired (and the boobage) I've never felt better! Feel like a complete fraud. My main fear is that they'll do the scan and tell me there's nothing there after all!

Mind you, I had my gallbladder removed a couple of years ago: after the surgery the surgeon came to see me and said that it was frankly remarkable that I was up and about and seemingly perfectly 'healthy' prior to the surgery when my gallbladder had actually impacted (see 'exploded') and I should have been writhing around in intolerable agony. She said I was a marvel! Perhaps us 'old' birds are just a bit more hardcore!? Wink

Dani240 · 19/01/2015 10:49

Hi All!

I'm loving these bump pictures! I'd post mine, but I just look fat! I've already bought some maternity clothes but that's only because I can't bear to have anything tight on my belly.

At my booking in appointment my BMI was 30.3, and I was really embarassed! I suppose it was to be expected though, as it's twins and I've been subsisting on a diet of white toast and chocolate digestives for the past six weeks Blush

Is the morning sickness easing a bit for you lot? I'm now 9+5 and I still feel rough but nowhere near as bad as a few weeks ago.

Skeppers · 19/01/2015 11:00

Dani240 Don't be embarrassed by a BMI of 30.3...mine is 36! I was initially mortified, but the MW told me that's just above what is average at the moment! Shock She said that as long as I carry on eating and exercising as I have been (mostly non-impact exercise bike/yoga/walking at the moment) then I may even come out the other side lighter than before I became pregnant!

I'm 36, so an 'older' mum, and haven't been put into a 'high risk' category as I've no history of weight-related illness, high blood pressure, etc. I think that they look at you on an individual basis and your personal medical history rather than a sweeping judgement based on BMI alone.

Twins, eh? Secretly quite jealous...although I've not been scanned yet so God knows what's going on in there...doesn't even feel like there's one at the moment, let alone two!

Rikalaily · 19/01/2015 11:06

Beautiful bumps! Smile Mines is hidden under my fat belly so will be a while before I have a bump to post a pic of, usually showing by now but I'm thicker round the middle than I was with my other pregnancies lol.

Morning sickness is better, but only since I realised that the preg vits and tea were making me sick, it's been a lot more manageable since I stopped both of those things. Uber tired still, 10+1 today.

Fayelouise2 · 19/01/2015 13:15

All your bump pics are so lovely! I have zero bump as yet (9 weeks and 4 days) but am already in maternity jeans as it really hurts to have anything on my stomach due to ligaments stretching. On the plus side the horrible morning sickness has subsided so feeling a little more human. First midwife appointment is Wednesday but scan isn't for another two weeks. The problem with feeling less sick is I fell less pregnant, is that weird? Really want to check baby is ok!

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/01/2015 13:52

sian and skeppers Hello from another 'older' mum to be. I am 37 and this will be my first. I envy you your wellness as i have been feeling nauseous and exhausted for weeks. 11 + 5 today. Hoping for a sudden lack of nausea when i pass 12 wks. And the well documented second trimester energy boost!

There is an 'old birds' ante natal thread - feel free to join in!

Equimum · 19/01/2015 14:34

Hi, I popped in back on the first thread but haven't said anything here yet.

Lovely bump photos, ladies. Apart from a bit of bloating, I don't have anything yet.

It's so exciting that people are beginning to have scans. Unfortunately, I have no idea when I'll get mine as we're currently abroad. We've been overseas for a year and return to the Uk I two weeks. I have a booking appoinent the second week in feb, but I'll already be nearly 14 weeks by then. Luckily, we weren't planning to have the additional tests, just the basic dating scan, so it shouldn't matter if it's after the magic 14 week point.

Like lots of you, my symptoms are decreasing now, but I'm still exhausted. Mind you, I'm not sure how much of that is caused by the pregnancy, and how much is caused by my 2yo who keeps waking in the night at the moment!

Frolicacid · 19/01/2015 17:26

Thank you for all your good wishes yesterday.

The scan was ffab. Little jellybean had a strong heartbeat. She put it on loudspeaker for us to hear, which was amazing. We even saw him wiggle his arm and leg buds. I can't believe the detail you could see for something so small.
My dates were bang on and she kept me at 8+5 today with a edd of 26/8/15. I can't te you how nervous I was when we got there.

We went to tell mil and my parents on the way back and that was a lovely thing to do. They were all so surprised! I guess that after 13 years together they had assumed we wouldn't do the kid thing. They have been warned to keep quiet until 12 weeks.

Glad to hear some of you are feeling better. I'm still sick as a dog. Feels like ages until the magic 12 weeks when I should start to feel human again! Loving all the bump pics too. I have nothing but fat to show yet.

birchwoods · 19/01/2015 17:36

Hi ladies,

So pleased your scan was perfect Frolic, it's so amazing isn't it!

I had my booking appt today. Mw came to my house. All fine, pretty basic stuff, medical questions etc...

Currently on the sofa debating whether I can drag myself to Metafit or not tonight. So tired and bloated! I know it would make me feel better but I just can't be arsed!! Seriously slipping in the exercise front! I've bought the Tracy Anderson preggo DVDs but she's sooo dull and uninspiring! She is pregnant and obviously can't be arsed either! Smile woman!!

birchwoods · 19/01/2015 17:39

Also feeling increasingly anxious about 12 week scan (a week tomorrow). I know I've already seen/heard a hb etc...but I feel so normal apart from a complete inability to digest anything at all (bloating, constipation, all that glamour) that I'm becoming paranoid...anyone else? Any words of comfort from the experienced mummies?

Luciferbox · 19/01/2015 17:43

Lovely bump pictures. Glad to hear we're all well. I'm jealous of your scans. Still another 2 weeks until mine.

I agree that your bmi doesn't always rule your care. Mine was 31 with DS and I was classed as low risk. My bmi is now sadly almost 33 and so far I'm classed as low risk with midwife led care. Providing they don't change it when I have my scan. With DS I lost a stone during my pregnancy so I'm hoping to do the same this time. I'm also stupidly tall (6ft2) so that helps.

Anyway, I'm now feeling much better. Still knackered but at 11+4 I can see a bit of light after weeks of sickness.

otter32 · 19/01/2015 18:06

Not to wish it on anyone... But my sickness got worse from 11 weeks and is still bothering me! I hope it goes away soon! I was expecting to start feeling better!!

iamhopeful · 19/01/2015 18:34

We had our scan today, amazing to see him/her all bouncy and wriggly, all ok so far which is a huge relief after 12 weeks of worry, they have dated me 11+4 and revised due date of 6/8. Told my sisters tonight which was good, a close friend tomorrow and then work (not looking forward to that).

Is anyone else feeling enormous by the evening, I seriously feel twice the size by tea time and it is driving me mad? Bloated, huge and exhausted.

happygojo · 19/01/2015 18:54

I had my booking appointment today, all fairly standard, I have the 'bounty pack' which I must say is quite overwhelminh. Having an info overload. MW didn't manage to take bloods though as my veins are really deep and I think the cold weather made them shy away even more. I have to go to the hospital to have them done, with strict instructions to drink lots and wear a thick jumper to keep my arms nice and toasty! Tonight I seem to be having a 'holy f#%k I am pregnant' moment, still early days and I haven't had a scan but feeling fairly positive. I felt almost human this morning but this evening I feel awful! Ugh!

Guyropes · 19/01/2015 18:56

Birchwoods, lots and lots of pregnancies are not accompanied by feeling grotty! You've had a good scan, and you'll have another one soon, so relax and enjoy being pg! (Hth)

Happy and otter, hope you get a good night and feel better in the morning. I seem to be improving: had totally lost any will to cook, but made a cottage pie this evening. Hope i enjoy eating it!

OP posts:
sofabear · 19/01/2015 20:45

Congrats to all those of you who've had scans and fingers crossed for those who're waiting :-) I had an early one last week, was all good, saw a healthy lil bean and heard heartbeat but found out actually only 9+3 rather than 10+2 like I thought. This means that I need to go back next week for the harmony test then hospital scan week after followed by another private scan for NT the week after!

Like some of you my sickness seems like it's getting slightly better but I'm still suffering from really bad all over itchiness. I'm going to discuss with the MW next week but am trying not to panic too much. Also seem to be really grouchy at the moment, anyone else find this?
