For those of you with more than one DC... Are you buying a new mattress for your cots? I know the advice is to but DD barely slept in her Moses basket. Also thinking of buying a sleepyhead deluxe pod which will sit on top of mattress so not sure how necessary it is.

17 weeks today. Still not sure about movements - think I'm feeling v slight bubbles. Had been feeling DD for weeks by this stage...

cuphat · 04/01/2015 08:03

I think we will be buying a new mattress for the Moses basket and crib. We put DD in the Moses basket for the first few months as it's more cosy, so will do the same this time before putting baby in the crib. I'm not worried about the fact that DD slept in it, more that it will have been stored in the attic for a couple of years. It's wrapped nicely and the attic is dry but we still don't want to risk it. Baby will be getting a new cotbed and mattress for the nursery anyway as DD will still be in hers for a few years.

I've been awake for an hour and DD is still fast asleep. So you can still have lie-ins when you have kids - I just wish my body would let me!

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 04/01/2015 08:20

Thanks cuphat

I'm very envious of your DCs ability to lie in. I have an early riser - we did 10 months of wakes up between 445-520. At the moment she's settled on 615 which feels like bliss. However I would sell my right arm for her to sleep past 7 Wink

Am praying this baby is a good sleeper. DDs sleep nearly killed me and it's one of the main reasons I couldn't face trying again sooner. I blame DH as he doesn't need much sleep. Hoping this one takes after me on the sleep front!

Tranquilitybaby · 04/01/2015 08:20

I've bought a sleepyhead iwant as the reviews are fab and I'll prob end up co sleeping some nights when feeding.

We've got a Moses basket, it's 13 years old now but looks perfect. Got it down from the loft yesterday and removed all the covers to wash. Unsure whether to use it or not though, if quite like a bedside crib.

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 04/01/2015 08:23

Yeah the sleepyhead looks great doesn't it. I'm waiting to see if amazon will do a deal on it. To be honest as far as I'm concerned anything that buys me sleep is money well spent Grin

cuphat · 04/01/2015 08:33

DD normally gets up a little earlier at 7-7.30am but that's because DH usually wakes her by being noisy! She did get up at around 5.30-6.30 for a few months but we're early birds anyway. We've been very lucky with DD as she has slept through from a young age; DH wouldn't have agreed to a second child otherwise! I discovered that I do not cope very well with lack of sleep in the early months so I can't wait to get them over with.

Phryn · 04/01/2015 08:40

Morning. As a first time Mum to be the lack of sleep is something that I think will hit me and DH. He's worse with less sleep than me but we're both not great Wink. I think my bladder and night time trips to the bathroom are doing a good job of starting to prepare us for the change already!

cuphat · 04/01/2015 08:49

I was really surprised as DH needs lots more sleep than me; pre DD he would have 10hrs at night then a nap after work! But he has coped with the lack of sleep much much better than me (my ideal is 8hrs a night). I remember towards the end of my pregnancy I hardly slept, I think it must be your body preparing you! When DD arrived I found the sleepless nights horrendous but I do remember thinking that I was getting better quality sleep than during late pregnancy.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 04/01/2015 09:19

Morning.

My oh must be training me for lack of sleep. His snoring has been bad these past few weeks since he had a cold. Last night he'd had a few drinks and I was awake from 330 - 500. Confused

Glad to see dome discussion on the whole sleeping arrangements. As a first time mum I didn't see the need for a Moses basket until I read that babies sleep with the first few months. Blush I like the looks of the glider cribs (a couple of you helpfully posted pics on fb) but I also need something for downstairs. You think you've got everything covered on your list..

Newgirl33 · 04/01/2015 09:35

Could someone tell me how I can join the FB group?

We've started looking at things to buy for baby, but haven't made any big purchases yet. Think my DP really likes the Bugaboo Cameleon! I've joined the Boots Parenting Club and got the free changing bag when you buy a pack of Pampers.

Sneezed a few times this morning and my stomach muscles really hurt :(

Chookford · 04/01/2015 09:52

Morning ladies

I'm 20wks today half way point woohoo!!! I'm not on Facebook but will post some bump pics on here if that's ok?

New mattress front I need a new one for the Moses basket and we need a new cot anyway so will be getting one there too, I think if they were hardly used and throughly cleaned though they should be fine!

My dd is a teenager with her sleep, she does 14hrs!!! It's crazy I'm praying that this one sleeps well too, I won't know what to do if it doesn't!! Hmm

namechanger15 · 04/01/2015 09:52

The ILs bought us a travel system the other day. We only wanted a cheaper one as I plan to baby wear as much as possible, and we still have DS' 6 month plus stroller in excellent condition. So they got us a petite star city bug. I like it cos its light and quite funky looking and has all the features I need it to. I doubt it will be used much at all anyway!

Re cot mattress, we are buying a new moses basket mattress as DS slept in that a lot, but with the cot we are keeping the same one. He slept in it for about 3 nights then I gave up trying and he co slept until going into a bed. We've kept the mattress wrapped and standing up behind our wardrobe so seems silly to buy a new one when we spent £100+ on that!

Jazzy, will post my 18 week bump on the group :) x

Tranquilitybaby · 04/01/2015 10:21

I've ordered a bugaboo Buffalo - if Mothercare ever deliver it!! Lovely prams.

Started looking at cotbeds, would like a sleigh style, they're lovely.

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 04/01/2015 11:08

We had Mamas and Papas Sola for DD and loved it (actually bought it under the package called Glide which is essentially the Sola with carrycot and accessories too). The Sola also fits the maxicosi car seats though they don't widely advertise... Will be using it again for this DC and wholly recommend it Grin

jazzyjenbo · 04/01/2015 14:02

I have a moses basket downstairs... Its got a thin foam mattress with plastic cover so this has been re used for ds/dd and dN... We will re use again... My dd liked to sleep on one of my firm pillows neway (dont tell the health visitor!!)
New swing crib for our room, i need to buy a mattress for this, any recommendations?
DD is staying in the cotbed and we are buying a new smaller cot.
Chookford.... Wahoo the 1/2 way point! X

cuphat · 04/01/2015 14:31

DD slept in the pram carrycot downstairs which lasted her till over six months and the moses basket upstairs in our room. As we kept her in our room till after the recommended 6 months (7 months I think as we started weaning at 6 months and didn't want too many changes in one go) we put her in a crib when she had outgrown the moses basket. There was no way her cotbed was coming in our room!

We've just been to see the icandy peach blossom 3 in person, to look at colours etc. We're waiting till after the 20 week scan to order (only a week to go!) but we've decided what we want. We'll buy it early and DD can use it straight away, then we'll sell the icandy strawberry we have. The lady in the shop said they sell very well second hand which is good.

There are disadvantages with the peach as opposed to the strawberry; you can fold the strawberry in one piece but you have to dismantle the peach seat and adaptors before you can fold the peach. People on the bus threads would love me with my double! DD is still parent facing in the strawberry; you can parent face with a single seat or both seats on the peach 3 but when the baby is in the carrycot for the first 6 months, DD will have to forward face. I'm excited about getting it though!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 04/01/2015 15:01

Cuphat - how exciting!! I can't wait to order and get my buggy and then play with test it thoroughly.

Forgot that my pram thing comes with a bassinet so the baby could sleep in that downstairs. As I've just priced up a new wardrobe for the nursery/spare room, I'm trying to save money where I can!

Bazza2 · 04/01/2015 15:02

Anyone got any tips on decent budget three wheeler travel systems? We live in the country so we'd need something good for off road as well as the city.

Chookford · 04/01/2015 15:43

Thanks jazzy Smile

bazza I know mothercare used to do their own make 3 wheelers which were very reasonable, not sure if that's still the case, may be worth a look?!

WigglyBraddins · 04/01/2015 16:17

Hello lovely ladies. Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had the most wonderful Christmas.

Sorry I disappeared. I basically had an internal melt down about the two previous mcs and having so few symptoms compared with my pregnancy with DS and about my scan date having been moved so I had to block out all thoughts of pregnancy. I also was so busy at work that all I was doing was working and sleeping. Even a colleague commented on how exhausted I was looking. But, we had our 12 week scan on 23rd Dec and all was fine and as I suspected I was 14 weeks so have a due date of 23rd June.

So I'm still tired but otherwise fine and had to buy maternity wear for work on Friday and put on my maternity jeans this morning (although that may all be due to excessive quantities of stollen and mince pies). I will put bump pic on FB shortly. How are all of you?

AnythingNotEverything · 04/01/2015 16:48

Wiggly welcome back. Hope you're feeling better about things post scan.

Thanks sunbathing. Good luck to your DH with the new job. How long will the only being home at weekends go on for? I like your central heating plans Smile

Aconda · 04/01/2015 17:07

Hi all,

Sure am not alone in brewing the work dreads about first day back tomorrow.

My brother dropped round the family moses basket this weekend- was my granny's and has had over 20 members of our family sleep in it (with new mattress for each baby) - is 83 years old! Is beautiful but does creak a bit so I know my siblings have tried it for a few weeks with their babies and then shifted to other less nostalgic options Smile

Quick question on the sleepyhead deluxe pod for those who have one or are getting one, does it come with a stand or is it something you would place in a cot or a surface as all the pictures I've seen I can't see a stand and whilst I think it looks good, I have 2 dogs and want something that is raised off the floor if that makes sense? X
