My MIL just got herself really wound up about the possibility of the cats suffocating the baby. Hopefully seeing as numbers 1 and 2 have survived she won't bother this time!

impatienceisavirtue · 02/01/2015 23:45

For those worried about not feeling the kicks yet - do you know where the placenta is? Mine is anterior and apparently this means you feel it a lot later, it could just be that

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 03/01/2015 00:35

impatience I am not sure, I ll have to ask OH, is there one you can recommend?.

I have been lucky with the two mw I have seen so far, the last one was a Mum of 7 (she became a mw after having her children) and she gave amazing advice, she does work at local unit too so fingers crossed she is working when I go into labour. I ve already told her to avoid annual leave around that time.

HexyQueen · 03/01/2015 00:49

Elizabeth you could see about getting a private gender/reassurance scan at Liverpool Women's Hospital if that is close enough to you. Ours cost £45, I was seen within a week I think, we saw our baby girl in regular scan mode & 3D/4D for 15 mins or so, got 7 great (3D) photos and sonographer couldn't have been nicer or more engaged. Well worth the money.

I'm grumpy. Bloody vomiting & nausea returned a couple of days ago. Bah.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 03/01/2015 08:40

Morning ladies. Cannot believe my two weeks off work is nearly up! Sad I'm glad I did save it til Christmas time though. Might try it again in 2 years time. Monday will be so hard! Although have MW appt on Fri and probable funeral one day so it won't be a full week.

Apparently baby is the size of a pickle today. What an odd thing to compare it to.

Hexy - sorry your nausea/sickness is back. You are having a rough time with it. I'm sure that's an understatement for how you feel.

Thelovecats - yep, my grandma was worried about my cat and it sitting on the babies chest. It must have been a more common problem back then.

OH is off out with his mates today. He hasn't seen them in ages which means it could get messy. I will go and see the rents and then do some meal prep for the week ahead. Rock and roll Saturday for me. Hope others do something far more exciting.

ots · 03/01/2015 09:05

18 weeks today, almost at the halfway point :) according to my app baby is the size of a sweet potato, which seems huge to me. Another app I use says bell pepper which seems a bit more realistic!

Hope you all have a nice weekend. We are starting our packing today as we move 2 weeks today and I'm soo excited :)

comeagainforbigfudge · 03/01/2015 09:09

Thanks every one. DH kept wittering on about how he can see his mum's point re the curtains. To the point I just ended the conversation by telling him I wasn't changing my curtains on the basis of "what might happen"

they must think I'm have a superman/girl.
super human strength from day they are born......

And said I didn't appreciate his mum/step dad saying these things. End of.

glad I wasn't in. Might have lost it!

Think the real problem is that my dad put the curtain rails up when DH had asked his step dad. But I had already asked my dad the week before and had told DH this.

or the problem is I trust my parents more than I trust dh's

jazzyjenbo · 03/01/2015 10:48

Comeagain - i am a childminder and have full length curtains in my front room and on my back patio doors... I have 2 kids of my own soon to b 3 and have looked after lots over the last 5 years from 0-8 yrs.... I have never seen any of them hanging from the curtains!!!... We have sometimes closed them to act as a stage but they just swish them rather than pull them!
Re your doors - when ur baby starts to toddle you can get clear sticky back plastic (blue peter style) that can cover the bottom (under a meter) panes of glass.

I'm feeling definite movements now but not enough to b a pattern yet. I can't wait for my 20 week scan now... But along with that excitement i remember from last time feeling very anxious.

comeagainforbigfudge · 03/01/2015 12:40

Excellent tip about the sticky back plastic! I will tell dh about that.

My mum was a childminder too. I don't believe there was ever an incident with curtains!

Still annoying me. I've now got it in my head that they are questioning my dad's ability to put up curtain poles. And me for asking him.

My dad was an engineer to trade. He wouldn't have put them up if he didn't think the wall was sound enough to support the curtain and rail!!! stomps off in an irrational huff at PIL

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 03/01/2015 13:26

hexyqueen I ll have a look, altho as OH booked mine as a surprise I don't want to offend him by suggesting a different one.

My parents house has long curtains in every room and there was never any problem with my brother or I. Like jazzy we did often close them to pretend they were stage curtains but that's it.

AnythingNotEverything · 03/01/2015 13:30

Comeagain - unless the doors are very very old, I would think they are already safety glass, which means it wouldn't shatter on impact. We have internal folding doors with small panes so I looked into this when DD was born.

There will be a number etched into the glass to say if it meets the relevant safety standards.

Im 18wks on tuesday but havent felt any movement yet. Mini me must be hiding lol

Tranquilitybaby · 03/01/2015 14:00

Hexy ive joined you, feel so nauseous all the time, even eating isn't helping like it used to. Throwing up most mornings too, it's horrible. Ive had a cold and don't think the congestion is helping as it makes me gag. So you have my sympathy x

tori i can hear kicks with the doppler but cant feel them

cuphat · 03/01/2015 19:06

Despite my anterior placenta, I have started feeling movements again, but only very low down - I'm guessing underneath the placenta (as mine started off at the top, then grew anterior). I mostly felt movements low down with DD too, but I think that was because she was breech. I'm 19+1.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 03/01/2015 19:59

I seem to have developed curry cravings, either spicy soup, curry or failing that pot noodle curry flavour. feeling better now this horrible congestion is going.
Re:movements, I am 15 weeks but keep feeling butterfly type little flutters, as this is my first time, is this baby movements or just my tummy doing rumbles (sorry if silly question)

Hi all, at 18weeks today with 4th dc and shot tummy muscles I can only feel very small low down pokes a few times a day so not to worry of you're the same stage but have no dc and are not feeling much.
I'm really windy tonight, embarrassingly so I'm Blaming it on the baby! Can't believe we're almost half way, a close friend is also expecting now so nice to have RL company too:)

Tranquilitybaby · 03/01/2015 21:10

Do you know what you're having Tori? X

comeagainforbigfudge · 03/01/2015 21:17

AnythingNotEverything the doors are probably old. Not sure exactly. It is something I will consider. But I do like the idea of sticky back plastic Smile

I'm getting flutters every now and then. Quite exciting. Although to me it feels like lots of tiny gas bubbles.

People keep asking if I can feel kicks yet. Then are all surprised when I say I haven't. I'm only 17 weeks and it's my first! Eesh!

It probably is movement Elizabeth. I had flutters very early on.

Tori, I had no nausea with either pregnancy and the first was a girl and this is a boy so it's all a load of rubbish! You can have different pregnancies with two of the same gender.

They're unlikely to have got it wrong if they've told you it's a boy. I spent a lot of my first pregnancy stressing that DD wasn't really a girl (as we'd made her nursery girly etc). They'd told us it was a girl at the gender scan and 20 week scan and my 38 week scan but they said they still sometimes get it wrong even at that late stage. I'd also heard quite a few stories of them getting it wrong that way around and a few people had even been told girl at 5 or so scans for it to turn out to be a boy! Boy bits can hide but if they're there they're there. The only way of knowing for definite is if you have had the harmony or similar tests, or amniocentesis. I'm much more relaxed this time!

Evening all, just a late night check in, i know i've spoken to some of u on FB this evening.

We are starting a 'bump day' from tomorrow and then every sunday so come and join us (even if u havnt got a bump as yet) .... Thought it would be best to do on a Sunday as most ppl will be around. Just post your pic and week number.

I bought a beautiful crib today, my first major baby buy! Just need to get a mattress and sheets for it now.
