I've already been touched buy not told I'm huge Wineandchoccy, mostly get told I'm tiny!! Equally annoying though.

Ds1 is James BananaToast, at the moment everyone calls him James and hopefully Jim and Jimmy will annoy him so he'll tell people not to use it. Dh sometimes calls him jimbob but he also calls ds2 lukeazord (something to do with power rangers) so I just ignore him!!

kismac · 25/11/2014 08:36

Is it weird that I want someone to rub my belly? Not complete strangers but I think I'm showing but everyone keeps saying Im not. It's starting to annoy me.

We're not getting anywhere with names. He's only suggested two and I don't like them - Elijah for a boy which I really don't like and Eloise for a girl which is pretty but I struggle to pronounce it. Ha ha.

I like Flora and Cara for a girl and Murray for a boy. I had a huge list but they all got shot down.

BananaToast · 25/11/2014 08:37

The only person who has touched me so far is MIL saying goodbye. We won't see her again til after the birth (lives in New Zealand) so she gave me a gentle pat and said to look after her grandchild. I don't think I'll mind family and close friends touching but I'm not looking forward to unsolicited touching by people I know less well!

Lindalove · 25/11/2014 08:43

We're going for probably two muddle names as my surname will be the second one. We also like the idea that he'll have a name within a name if he ever needs an alter- ego :) My surname starts with L and husbands with M.

Ideally then we'd like a first name that starts with M and a second name that starts with L as we're also fans of alliteration.

At the mo we don't have any real name ideas as want something unusual but not too wacky. I do love some of the old Anglo Saxon names like Edmund but the only M I can find is Morcar.

I love Hereward which is a really old name but that breaks the 'rules!'. I also like Lowry for L like the artist.

We had Madga Ladybird picked out if it's been a girl!

BrixtonBunny · 25/11/2014 08:47

Kismac that's my name so I'm very fond of it Wink

It is interesting to hear all the names, although I'm glad I have mine for both sexes set already. Me and DH spent many years on them so that we would be prepared when the time came lol!

BananaToast · 25/11/2014 09:14

Care to share Siarie? Grin

I'm the opposite, I don't want to decide on names too early and miss out on the deliberations. I quite like not knowing what he/she will be called yet.

FreedomHuntress · 25/11/2014 09:30

kismac, I absolutely adore Eloise, have loved it since I was 12 and The Damned had their song out . BB, is that your name, or Flora/Cara?

I also love Jack - some of the coolest Jacks are Alec Baldwin's 30 Rock character, and Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer in 24. I heart both of them! What about Zach(ary) for something less popular? Or Dax? (It means leader.)

We also have our name plus middle name sorted, have done for years (yes, years!) - am secret squirrel though and not telling a soul til she's here.

18+1

Nipping back in after a while away because it's the 20 week scan today - eek! Quite nervous. Thankfully DH has got the day off so we're doing it together, which is nice.

In case anyone is interested, I'm currently reading a book Redefining Girly by Melissa Atkins Wardy - www.chicagoreviewpress.com/redefining-girly-products-9781613745526.php?page_id=21 - I'd been meaning to read it anyway before getting pregnant, but that's given me an extra impetus. It's a really interesting and quite practical guide to raising children in a way that realistically tackles gender stereotypes and sexualisation, so while girls are the focus there's some good stuff in there about boys too. It's written in an American-based context, but a lot of the material seems easily transferable. As a first time mum, it's helping me think through some of the issues which I sort of had in my head but hadn't quite worked out what to do with, so I thought I'd mention it in case anyone else wanted a similar resource.

Squatting, you mean you're not called Neville?!
Kismac is the perfect age to be called Eloise, you are a few years younger but I reckon that song was still huge by the time your parents had you, so possibly Eloise for both of you!!! Geeze, Eloise, I am OLD!

DS's name is also one I have loved since the mid-eighties! I love Eloise but we are having something less mainstream for DD, although not at all unheard of.

Good luck, Annia.

TheBooMonster · 25/11/2014 09:57

I like Michael for a bit but every time I bring it up DH says "what? Not Raphael or perhaps Gabriel?" He thinks he's funny for bringing up other angel names as clearly I can't like Michael without it having some sort of occult link... Though we know a lot of Michaels...

I also like Oliver (suggested by my mum) and DH isn't opposed to it.

He did suggest Thomas but I have an irrational dislike of the name.

Girl wise I liked Florence and Felicity but have gone off them since falling pregnant, I quite like Vivian and Valery but they're not all that child friendly, though I've started to come round to Olivia...

DH has been fairly noncommittal about the girls names apart from to ban Florence because we had an issue with a girl who we let stay at the student house 'just for 4' weeks but then stayed for almost 2 months, bought a cat whilst she was living with us (called Florence) who destroyed our kitchen wallpaper and in the end had to be kicked out for bringing her dealer into the house repeatedly >.> (we no longer take in waifs and strays!)

Siarie I've had a list of names on the notes section on my phone ever since I met DH. He seemed flattered when I told him!

Good luck today brixton!

FreedomHuntress · 25/11/2014 10:20

Squatting, I see! (A reference totally lost on me previously.)

OneDay, that's cute!

BrixtonBunny · 25/11/2014 10:22

Scan went well - everything looks normal and healthy! Though baby was being quite uncooperative and had legs closed so the sonographer was "only 80 per cent sure...not certain". So am team girl / surprise!

Brixton that's great news well done.

You can go for a just gender scan at baby bond on Harley st for just £39 if you want to be sure - that's where we went on Sunday. They'll focus purely on willy/ no willy as opposed to all the really important stuff that the 20 wk one looks at.

BrixtonBunny · 25/11/2014 11:04

Smogs that sounds interesting - though tbh I think we'll just leave it a surprise, what will be will be etc! It's so strange to think the next time we see baby could well be once I've given birth... X

BananaToast · 25/11/2014 11:08

Gosh that is a scary thought Brixton! Seems so long to wait for another peek. Glad everything looked good in your scan, will be interesting to see if they were right about the sex.

BrixtonBunny · 25/11/2014 11:15

Banana yes definitely! I guess with girls it's harder to tell as you're looking for a lack of something if you see what I mean, though sonographer though he could see labia... Who knows! We're not telling anyone about his guess though, just saying they couldn't tell x

smogsville · 25/11/2014 11:40

Is it your first Brixton?

This ones my second and final so made sense to find out from a practical perspective but we didn't find out for DD.

Siarie · 25/11/2014 11:44

Banana I can't share them because they are so unique that I would die if after all this time my names suddenly became popular. Just have to wait until April arrives :D

I agree about the Baby bond scan, thats what I had and the whole scan is looking at the babies bits so I will be quite surprised if they are wrong.
